09 Numbers problem

I have a file saved in My Templates, created in Numbers, that I cannot get rid of. When I open the file and try to delete the pages it just keeps adding new ones, plus a table, I delete and it adds another one. From the file list it cannot be dragged to the trash. I know forget it, but it is driving me nuts!!! Typing info into the help menu does not come close to helping me. How do I delete any file I want to get rid of!! Help Please! Jerry

Numbers will be driving you nuts!!! for a long time because what you describe is its normal behaviour.
A Numbers document MUST contain at least one sheet.
We may remove every table from the sheet but if we remove this one, the program will naturally recreate a sheet with a table.
Numbers is like Nature, it hate emptyness.

How can I fix my page numbering problem?

I am creating a catalog in InDesign. Master pages were set up so the left and right pages had the page numbers in the lower outside corners.
Today I moved some pages around, and as a result the left side pages are now right side, and vice versa.
The problem I am facing is that on some of the pages, the page number is now in the inside corner, and on some of the pages, the page numbers are on both the inside and outside corners. The numbering is correct, but the positions are wrong.
I tried:
1. Overwriting all master page items for the page, then trying to delete or move the page number, but there is a faint yellow box around the number and it cannot be deleted or removed.
2. Applying the correct master page to the page I am trying to fix; this works in some cases, but in others it just places the new text boxes on top of the old ones.
Any help would be appreciated! I am using CS6 on a Mac. My master pages include a text box at the top, a blank box to show the page with bleed, and a page number indicator.

After I resist the temptation to ask why you're transcoding to ProRes in mid-stream, all I can come up with is:
Need more info on the error circumstances
OR
You could batch the source clips in Compressor and start over
OR
Try smaller batches
OR
Trash your prefs, repair permissions, and try again

List numbering problem

I am trying to do the following type of list:
a. Step
b. Step
c. Step
    1. Sub step
    2. Sub step
d. Step
I am controlling the numbering in the EDD. My problem is that step d defaults to 'c' instead of d and I have to manually change it from <a+>.\t to <a=4>.\t.   Steps 1 and 2 are set to <n=1>.\t and <n+>.\t. So why doesn't the next alpha list pick up on the last alpha list instead of the last numeric list? Is there any way to fix this? Thanks! JW

A FrameMaker SGML EDD can define context rules that manage the numbering instead of using paragraph formats. There are also element qualifiers that test whether a list item is first, notfirst, last, notlast, and so on that apply numbering properties, so, for example, you can move a list element from the front or end or middle of a list to one of the other positions and the formatting will adjust. This is useful when the first and last list items need different space before/after and the first item needs to start at 1, or alphabetic equivalent.
I'm not using structure, so my suggestion may not apply in XML or DITA development. You can read about formatting rules in the Structure Applications Developer's Guide that you can find by clicking Structured Application Development in the Welcome Screen that appears when no document is open in FrameMaker 9 (can't remember 8).

Excel to numbers problem,,, please help!!!

I am new to numbers (and excel) but someone made me a xls file, it works great on excel but I want to use it on my iPad with numbers, it calcs my breaks.. So I only have to put in the time I start and stop working.
The breaks are at
10:00-10:15
12:00-13:00
14:45-15:00
Could somebody look at the file and look what the problem is?

Section/Page numbers problems

I have a document which I want the page numbering to start on the second page, ie. there is a title page which has no number, and then the second page has number one.
Reading through other posts about this, I have found that I have to add a section break in order to make this work, between the title page (1) and the real first page (2). But the problem is whenever I add a section break, it creates an entire blank page for the section break, so I end up with title page, blank page, real first page. Even if I have enough space, etc... every time I create a new section I get a blank page which I cannot type on or use, without deleting the section break and putting me back to square one.
Does a section break always do this (add a new blank unuseable page)?
Please, what can I do?
(required end of post rant: I switched from MsWord thinking pages would be so much more simple... but really, WHAT THE....? Just have it be a simple thing somewhere that allows the page (or section) to start at "0")

Numbers problem by grouping datas

Hi, I have a problem with the newest Numbers. I can not find a way to grouping my Datas, as in Excel 2 seconds data/ subtotal in the Numbers I did not find. I have tried many different ways, but I can not use the buttons by arrange/ grouping. Anybody? Have anybody met this problem too before? How can I use the data grouping?

you can add a summary table that conditionally sums by catagory like this:
the table on the left contains the list of transactions (and need not be sorted). The table on the right is a new table that summrizes the information in the Data table.
For the table "Summary":
Column A contains the Category names and column B computes totals.
B2=SUMIF(Data::$B, A2, Data::$C)
this is shorthand for select cell B2 and type (or copy and paste from here) the formula:
=SUMIF(Data::$B, A2, Data::$C)
select B2 and fill down as needed

Numbers - problem to open files with iPhone.

Hello! I have a problem to open a numbers file on Iphone. this file is made with Mac and use the function "SE". I understand tha t the problem is on a table where I use this function. If I delete this part I'm able to open with the Iphone. I try also to cut the expression on 2 different "se" but not work. I'have a dubt about the possibiliy of use the "se" function on the numbers on Iphone.
Someone have a problem like this? And find a soluction?

Hi, I see your answer but I don't agree for 3 reasons:
1 - On numbers on mac the functions with ";" work good;
2 - I try to put the comma like your suggestion but the system show me an error on the formula with the red triangle
3 - I read another time the online help about the instruction and is correct the ";"

Numbers problem since update, type reverts or disappears.

I have had a problem since i updated numbers after 4.2 came out. I keep tract of sales and to make it easier I copy and paste like information and change the customers name. Now that column reverts to the previous customer that I chnged. If i don't copy and paste that column the typing just disapears. Its driving me crazy does anyone know about this?

I am also running into this problem, and after scouring thru the discussion boards I came across this thread:

Document Numbering Problem

Hi Created one user define table of Document Type...
this table used to store some parameters..(Addon)
i uploaded nearly 200 parameters to that table using SQL bulk upload concept succesfully..
But as per sap the next document numbering will ( in NNM1 table) be 1 only for that table..
later while adding parameters manually through user defined screen(add-on) it shown error "
This entry already exist in table - ODBC error")
so i updated that next no value to 201 in NNM1 table ..
still its showing same error..
is there any way to solve this issue... i must upload using Bulk upload,later the client may add through screen..
( due to some problem in DTW for User defined Table i worked sql bulk upload method)

my another doubt , as per Note 804685.. i uploaded all document type data successfully,
for document rows i had some problem..
for ex my two table name is @HEAD (document) @ROWS(document Rows)
sample data: @HEAD txt file contains following data:
Docentry DocNUm Field1

3             3             C
@ROWS txt file contains following data:
DocEntry Role
1              Stores
2              Purchase
3              Quality
there is no problem in document table.. but in rows table i got all row details under one DocEntry(that too final one)
Output:

3                 3          Quality
please let me know my mistake.....

Section endnote numbering problems

I had been numbering endnote consecutively throughout a long document - but then discovered that I had to change to numbering them by sections. I've put in section breaks and used the document inspector to instruct the program to start numbering again in each section - but that isn't happening - though the numbers sometime do change in the text, they do not in the endnotes. How do I fix?

Help!!!! Urgent Framemaker page numbering problem

Hi there,
I have to make a last minute update to this old project that we have in Framemaker. I've never really used it before so I'm clueless!!
Problem is I have a book, it consists of several chapters, each of which seems to have a .fm extension.
I need to build a pdf and for the page numbers in it to flow from chapter to chapter. Problem I'm having right now is that chapter 1 ends on page 10 and chapter 2 begins on page 13!
This wouldn't be so bad if it even inserted a couple of blank pages in the pdf, but it doesn't so the number goes out of synch!
In the main page area where it lists all the .fm files, I've right-clicked on chapter 2, selected Numbering and selected Continue Numbering from Previous File in Book, then pressed Set. This doesn't make a different though!!
Also chapter 2 ends on page 18 and chapter 3 begins on page 21 so something isn't right.
I need to get this document finished today, if anybody could pls help it would be really really appreciated!

OK, first the theory: The book file is critical. It is a container that holds and controls the formatting of the chapter files.
If you open the component files outside the book, they'll contain page number that may be inaccurate because you're working outside the book environment.
So first, confirm the problem: In the book file, click the update icon. You'll have a dialog bos that asks if you want to regenerate the TOC and any other generated files. Click yes.
THEN, open the chapter file(s) to check the page numbering. I suspect that either the chapters have an intervening into page OR they have pagination set to open on a right side page and a blank page or two is being generated to force that -- and either problem can make the numbering appear as you've described it.
Check back in at this point and let us know what it looks like....

Registered numbers problem

I register new tel no. in skype to go. Then I make international call - works well.
Then I try another call, but cant connect to my acces number. Voice message "Połączenie nie może być zrealizowane". Happens every time. I did try many intervals (minutes and hours).
So I remove this registered number, add it again and I can make 1 single call again. If I try one more time: the problem comes back.
Same happens if I add new number and try calling after some time (2-3 day) - cant get through to acces number.
Acces number: in Poland, Warsaw (22)
My mobile: Orange
Happens: always.
Its realy frustrating. Any ideas?

Ted,
You don't have to remove the older version from your computer, but you should make sure you know which one you are using, and use the newer one for most things. Quit Numbers. If you have a Numbers shortcut icon on your Dock, use it to start Numbers. Then choose Numbers > About Numbers and see which one you are using. If it's Numbers 08, the first version, quit it and drag the shortcut icon off your Dock.
Now use Finder to browse your Applications folder for iWork 09. In that folder, find Numbers and launch from there. Check to make sure you have started Numbers 09. Then right-click the icon on the Dock and choose to keep that icon on the Dock.
You should be good from there on.

Scrubbing numbers problem.

Ever since I updated a long time ago, I have been having issues with scrubbing numbers by clicking on the number and dragging my mouse left or right to increase or decrease the value.
Issues meaning: when I begin to move the mouse to the left or right, nothing happens to the number. Only when I "jarr" the mouse to the left or right, will the number begin to scrub.
I realize that at face value, the mouse seems like the culprit. However, I use the Razer Naga, and "HAVE" the desired results of scrubbing immediately, when the mouse is moved, in all of the other Adobe programs. Pr, Ae, Au, etc. All except Premiere Pro.
I have CS6.

As you describe...iTs been a problem for ever in PPro ...and remains so (in my case C2014.xx)

There are several problems with this code. You never call the add method, so the numbers are never going to be added. You never load up a complex number to add either.
Try doing something a bit more like this:
read a float from the keyboard
read another float from the keyboard
Create a complex number from this float
Complex complex1 = new Complex();
complex1.realPart = first number from above;
complex1.imaginaryPart = second number from above;
do this again to get the second complex number
then add the numbers together
Complex complexSum = new Complex
complexSum.addComplexNum(complex1, complex2)
print complexSum.realPart + "+i" + complexSum.imaginaryPart;
then do the other operations you wantI would also advise that you take a course in Java Programming, cos the code you have posted is truely awful.

Ios7, Numbers problem on data input

On both iPhone and iPad2, in Numbers, when I input data using the 'tab' screen,( sorry, not sure of what you call it), and use down arrow to go to next cell, the cursor disappears and will only come back if I come out of that screen using the left or right arrows at the bottom or click 'Done' then go back to the input page. Very frustrating and slow! Any answers?

As I've had no response, I had better clarify: this problem only started after 'upgrading' to iOS 7 and is happening on my iPad 2 and iPhone 5. It happens in Numbers when using the Input Form method of adding data to the spreadsheet. So I add my data to one field and want to add data to the next field: previously all I had to do was click on the down arrow or next, but now when I do that, the cursor disappears altogether and the only way I can get to the next field is to come out of that 'input form' by either clicking on the right arrow and then going back to the input form or clicking done and then returning to the input form.
I have tried going through Apple Support but just end up in blind allies.
Can I also say that I find the iOS 7 upgrade to be awful and frustrating and wish I hadn't done it on both my devices, don't get me started on the draining of the batteries!

Approach ideas to a Numbers Problem: Analyzing iPhone records

if you search for my other post re: Numbers,
you'll see a screenshot of a file i started.
What it is: it is the database record from
AT&T for my iPhone account.
I need to:
- analyze each record so i can
discard ones with zero cost
(the data calls)
- sort by phone number and
limit to certain numbers which
have a tax deduction for the call
associated with them (investment calls).
I know excel can do this sort of thing;
(flatfile databasey sorts of things)
i just don't know if Numbers is up to the
task. So far a column bug has me and
i wonder if it was intended to analyze as
much data as this.

There's another leg to this puzzle, if you've been following along in both threads.
the record has 12891 rows.
It's the iPhone record, in it's raw form; 10 rows per record but not in
that flatfile kind of format yet that Excel can do nicely.
AT&T doesn't do a good job with the filters at the website

i can work on in case there's some vague future benefit over arguing the
bill with them for some numeric problem.
So what's a good way to have a full raw set, chunk it into something
manageable, and link it all together? Any pointers to databasey things
for large data sets would be repaid with buckets of gold....leaves.
