1.1.1 Tried to reinstall, wont show window

My wife had been having some intermittent problems with her iP not opening up when she plugged her camera into her ibook. She was told to try reinstalling iP. She has an Ibook with 10.2.8 and the iP info says it's 1.1.1
Well, I did it. I put all of our photos on a few discs, and dropped the iP icon into the trash.
The reinstall discs that came with the Ibook said to use the Install discs if I didn't want to reinstall the whole OS.
I installed the applications from the install (disc 2 I think).
I had also done some playing around in the iphoto files I found in the HD, figuring I should probably trash everything from the old Iphoto files. Although I dragged files into the trash, they also stayed in the HD, so I stopped trying to trash stuff and proceeded with the install.
So at first (after the install) the icon looked like a square with an "A" in the bottom corner. I clicked on it and it turned into the IP icon, bounced up and down a few times and then did nothing.
That;s where I stand now. I have the icon, but no window shows up. I tried connecting the camera to the computer, got an iP window for a few seconds, then IP "unexpectadly quit".
Any Ideas?
(By the way, I tried to run software update, just to see if it needed a newer version to get going, but nothing even showed up for Ip)

You almost assuredly corrupted your photo database by fiddling with its contents. Try dragging the iPhoto Library folder from your Pictures folder to the desktop (or to any other convenient location) and launch iPhoto to see if it will create a new library for you.
As far as I know, OS X (10.2.x) included iPhoto 2, so I'm not sure where your iPhoto 1.1.1 installation came from. If you go to Apple's downloads page and look around, you should be able to find the download for iPhoto 2. Install it and go to Software Update to apply the latest point-version update for that installation before you run it.

Trying to reinstall Grub after windows 8.1 install

I have just had to carry out a clean install of windows 8.1 and have trouble trying to get grub to reinstall and grub-mkconfig to run and add the windows menu entry again. This is what I have done.
mount -t ext4 /dev/sda5 /mnt where sda5 is the root installation of arch
arch-chroot /mnt
grub-install /dev/sda
grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
unmount
reboot

Windows has probably installed in EFI-mode.
From the chroot environment, post the output of:
lsblk -f
# parted -l
Also, please post in full any error messages given when you run the commands you have listed in the OP.

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your device manually before syncing, you can restore from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
Here's how to:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your ipod to your computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your device for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.

You have posted to the iTunes Match forum, which your question does not seem to be related to. Is your question concerning iTunes Match or syncing with iTunes via USB?

HT4117 for some reason my mac turns itself off after a while when it wants, i dont know the exact problem causing of this....but i have smc errors in consol and ive tried to reinstall my smc and it wont let me so what do i do now

Please google search for "Mountain Lion disk crash" before upgrading you mac pro. You might need to replace you Mac hard drive after the upgrade.So many people had the same problems including me.
Be aware of the Mountain Lion upgrade problem.

They should be nearly identical - Internet recovery has a few less features and takes far longer to start up. I think you only get Internet recovery on certain macs and even then only if the recovery partition isn't working. Once in recovery mode you should be able to repair the hard drive and permissions using disk utility.
Once you have repaired the disk you should be able to choose an install OS X option where it downloads a fresh copy space permitting and it tries to keep files in place.
I think N during startup gets you network boot and D on gets you the hardware test. Shift during startup should try to safe boot if there is some sort of conflict keeping it from starting normally.

Did you place the iPod in recovery mode? That is required for a disabled iPod

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

Place the iPod Touch into DFU mode. This will be similar to what the factory would do to install the iOS onto new iOS devices.
Placing it into DFU mode will allow you to "format" and install the current iOS for that device.
To place your iOS device into DFU mode.
First connect you iOS device to you computer.
Open iTunes if not already open
Now turn off your iOS device using the power swipe.
Press the home and sleep button on your iOS device for 10 seconds.
Release the sleep button but carry on holding down the home button. For another 10 seconds.
Your iOS device should now be on DFU. Click on restore and iTunes will download the latest iOS for your device.
Hopefully that sorts it if not, you will have to go to a service centre or call Apple Care up and get them to collect it and repair it. (replace it) Or go into an Apple Store.
