I'm not sure from your post whether or not your iPod works with the Macbook, if you are are having problems with it have look at this troubleshooting document it may be of some help: iPod missing in iTunes and Mac desktop
If it's working ok and you just want to connect and use an it on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply.

  • Connecting ethernet from mac (10.6) to PC (XP)

I have tried everything suggested in the forums and still my macbook won't connect to my PC notebook.
    Heres the specs:
Macbook Pro 3, titanium. OS X 10.6.6 intel core 2 duo.
Ethernet adapter: Marvell Yukon Gigabit Adapter
Acer Notebook ACPI Multi processer (no cd/dvd drives), Windows XP 5.1
Ethernet adapter: Atheros AR8132 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller
Plus 1 Ethernet Cable (that definitely works as I've used it for the wireless)
I want to be able to transfer files freely between these computers. The reason is the PC notebook is my portable work computer.. it doesn't have a DVD/Disk Drive.. and my external hard drive does not work with both PC and Mac. My Macbook is my stay at home device that I do more graphics work on. They are both very useful in their own right, but I cannot seem to connect the two.
What I've done so far. I have created a "workgroup" and changed the name so they match. I have changed the privileges on both computers so they accept access from the other computer without need for user name and password. I have created static IP address that start (192.168.0...).. but made them one digit different at the end. I have created a new network connection on the PC, and it IS CONNECTED..so it says. I have also created a new "incoming connection" that allows access from any attempt at connection from the mac IP address.
I have also tried to "Connect to Server" on the mac.. using the smb://IPaddress/Sharedfolder AND smb://ComputerName/SharedFolder AND smb://IPaddress (by itself)... each time it usually takes a while saying "connecting to "IP address"..
but then says "The server “IP address” may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again"... I have tried using slightly different IP addresses... I have tried different ethernet cables.. I have taken down firewalls, put them back up, altered them, changed security to allow full access.. I have tried restarting computers.. I have turned ON "printer sharing" AND "file sharing".
So its connected, but I can't access either computer either direction. What do I do?

    Hi __trout__,
Go to the mac system preferences and click on Doc. There is a Minimize window using.... select the animation there.
    Hope this helps.

  • I just purchased Apple USB SuperDrive and connected to my Mac mini 2012 but does not show anything on the screen. Not sure if its working.

I just purchased Apple USB SuperDrive and connected to my Mac mini late 2012 USB slot but nothing shows up on the screen.
    I have OS X versus 10.10.3

The system bus and all connected products should appear in the system profile or in the
hardware part of About this Mac (more info) and if that does not, restart the computer with
the external Apple USB SuperDrive plugged in. •As a last resort, if nothing else, before a
return trip to be rid of the SuperDrive, you could try a system management controller reset.
The SMC reset is not a first choice, so I won't post a link to the support instruction page.
A new Apple USB SuperDrive should be seen as hardware in system information report.
Of course, an icon of disc media should appear once the disc is inserted into the drive, too.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Xraid shows amber but I only one controller connected with ethernet?

I Finally connected my G5 to an Xserve Raid that I've had for about a year and I only have one ethernet jack to hook up to the Raid. Only have 4 drives in it now and only the one ethernet connection going to the top controller. I have updated all the software/firmware and mounted the drives.
When I go into the Raid Admin, everything looks good except on the left the Raid indicator is amber. The first three lights (Arrays/components/Fibre channels are green, the fourth Network is amber as well.
When I click to get the information it shows Upper controller 1-7 is green and "link up" but the Lower controller is amber and say's "link down". I suspect this is because I don't have it connected with an ethernet cable. I wish I could get another ethernet connection to hook up the lower controller to test but I can't.
Is this normal and if so is the light next to the name suppose to be amber or should it be green? Right now it's amber and I'm concerned something isn't working correctly. Am I correct in assuming that I should have the other controller connected at all times to the G5 even if I don't have any drives in the 8-14 slots? Is the other fan also suppose to be running?
Any explaination or help would be great.
    Thanks.
Dual 2 Ghz PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Xserve Raid
    Powerbook G4 15" 1.25 Ghz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

The light is amber because the ethernet port doesn't have a link. It's not really a problem as long as you expect it - if you had a cable in there and it was still amber, that's the time to worry.
You don't need both ethernet ports active - as long as one of them is active you'll be able to administer the box, so it's fine to leave it that way if you want.
Everything else sounds like it's running fine.

  • How do I connect both a Mac and PC to Apple TV Home Sharing?

    Goal
    - I am trying to share both my PC and Mac through my Apple TV2 on the "Computers" home sharing menu.
    - These are 2 seperate iTunes accounts as they are 2 different owners of the PC and Macbook.
    - However, home sharing only allows me to have one at a time, can I not have 2 computers connected?
(The menu is in fact plural and says "Computers" not "Computer")
    Attempt
-I turn on home sharing on my PC with my PC iTunes account, it then shows up on the "Computers" list as PC
-I turn on home sharing on my Mac with my Mac iTunes account, it then shows up on the "Computers" list as Mac, but it deletes the PC share
    Troubleshoot
-So I started from scatch and connected the PC share with my PC itunes account, it shows up,
-Then I connect the Mac home sharing with the same iTunes login as my PC, but it also erases my PC from the "Computers" list and just displays the Mac.
    Question
-How do I connect both a Mac and PC to Apple TV Home Sharing?
-I want them both to show up in the "Computers" list.
-So the final result will look like this on my Apple TV menu:
    Computers
    -PC
    -Mac
whew... I'm out of breath... I hope there is an Apple Genius out there that can help.
    Thanks!

After retrying the home share with the SAME ITUNES ACCOUNT ON HOME SHARING I finally got it to work.

Regarding your first question about bookmarks, I think you discovered the answer in when you pressed the address bar. The second tab there has your bookmarks.
As for the keyboard, I'm not sure why your Firefox is reacting so slowly; mine seems to show keyboards even when I don't want them. If you have accumulated a lot of history, perhaps that's an issue?
Did you use any third party software to move your Firefox data from internal memory to the storage card?

You should be able to copy them to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases and you can then sync them to the iPhone (or you could re-download them directly on the iPhone)

  • Connecting to a Mac Mini

Hello all - I have a Mac Mini which I am trying to connect to remotely.  I don't not have a screen for the mini, but am attemping to connect it to a flat screen LCD monitor/TV thru HDMI.  Problem is the screen doesn't seem to recognize the resoultion which has been set for the Mini (it used to be used with an Apple Monitor, so the resoultion settings are probably to high for the LCD).
Here's the bigger problem: I would like to connect to the Mini via screen sharing, but it was configured to join a different network.   I tried hooking it up directly to my network via the ethernet, but no luck.
So now I am in the frustrating position of being unable to connect, unless I go buy an expensive video adapter.
Any ideas as to how to connect to it welcomed.  I own quite a bit of Mac kit, and have a number of dongles, but seem unable to come up with the right permutation!

What you probably have to do is changing the resolution, which is of course hard to do if you have no access, or rather cant see what you are doing.
For remote access you have to make sure that in 'System Preferences -> Sharing -> Screen Sharing' is activated. There it will also tell you the VNC IP to connect to the Mac. Then you can usually connect form the same network without any issues.
Do you still have the default adapter to connect it to a regular monitor to tinker with it?
The only cheap alternative would be going to amazon and getting a third party adapter for cheap.
I know a lot of people have issues with those adapters though (I'm an IT admin for a callcenter and we have 60 Mac Minis running and all of them have a cheapo ($4) 'Thunderbolt to DVI' adapter so the agents have 2 displays and all of them have been working for half a year just fine so far).

The circuit of my macbook is dead yet the hard drive is fine.  I need to access a file from the hard drive, how can i do this? The mac turns on the screen freezes as bright blue.  Is there a cable i can connect to another mac that will let me transfer the file?

There is another option if the Macbook will start up in Target Disk Mode.
Restart the computer while holding down the T key. If you see the firewire symbol moving around on the screen you can connect this one to another one in TDM. You will need a suitable cable to connect the two Macs.

how can i connect my 2008 mac book pro to a tv?

The Mini-DVI to DVI adapter is designed for the iMac (Intel Core Duo), MacBook, and 12-inch PowerBook G4 — allowing you to connect to an external DVI monitor. It can also be used in combination with the Apple DVI to ADC adapter to support older Apple flat panel Studio or Cinema Displays.

  • "Connection Failed" when trying to connect to another Mac on my wireless network.

    Hi,
I am having an intermittent problem with the connectivity between my iMac and Mac Pro - the latter is the media server for our house. Occasionally my Apple TV's seem to lose connectivity to the Mac Pro too which is a real pain. Both Macs are running Mavericks and the Apple TVs are running the latest software too.
If I try to connect to the Mac Pro in Finder on my iMac, the Mac Pro is there but when I click on it I get "Connection Failed". Rebooting both computers seems to fix the problem but is far from ideal when mid way through a film!
The messages in console on my iMac when I try to connect to the Mac Pro in Finder is:
    14/03/2014 10:20:33.542 sharingd[253]: SDSharePointBrowser::handleOpenCallBack returned -5999
14/03/2014 10:23:34.180 locationd[82]: could not open write stream for /var/db/locationd/clients.plist
I'm not sure if this provides a clue?
    Thanks in anticipation,
    Rob

I've managed to connect OK using Connect as. So at least that part is solved. I will see if I can get any diagnostics as to why the Apple TV drops out.

  • Hi I am trying to connect a new mac to an existing time capsule but Airport Utility is just not picking it up. What am I missing?

I have tried to connect the new mac to an existing time capsule both directly through ethernet and through wifi. Both times I get Internet connection OK but Airport Utility is stuck searching for the base station. I have two existing macs which are connected fine and have both been backing up quite happily. The first two macs are the same user (me) and the new one is for a different user in the house. All the macs are running Mavericks.
I have tried rebooting the time capsule and the new mac - didn't help.
Any information as to what I can try would be most welcome.
    Many thanks

    Hi All
I have solved my problem! It was the old chestnut the firewall issue. We have McAfee firewalls on our machines and the wifi network was set up as a public rather than a home network. I changed it to Home or Work and het presto the time capsule appeared. I didn't have this problem with the other machines at all.
    I hope this helps someone!!

I just bought a new iMac and now I amtrying to use it as a screen for my Macbook pro, but it don’t have a MiniDisplayPort the new model only have Thunderbolt which my Macbook don’t have. Isthere any way to connect this two mac’s anyway??

Screen sharing setup in 10.5, 10.6 are described by the links by operating system.  10.7 is fairly similar to 10.6.
And if both Macs have Firewire, you can setup a Firewire over IP network for fast communication between machines.  Note if you have two different Firewire ports a 6 pin to 9 pin Firewire cable does exist.  There are no Firewire to USB cables.

  • How can i remotely connect to my mac without sharing my screen

    Hi,
I have a Mac at work to which I occasionally connect from another Mac at home. Now I would love to export the applications similar to Linux where I just set the display to another device. Alternatively, I would also use screen sharing if the remote Mac's screen would not turn on and invite everybody around to follow my work (i.e. the workstation should either stay locked, similar to when connecting to a Window machine with MS Remote Desktop) or it should remain blank.
I am using the latest version of Snow Leopard on all machines.
    Thanks for any suggestions,
    equinox

    TO JAISEN.....
not necessarily, every "computing" device (imac, TC, AEBS, pc) has its own separate set of ports. There is a way to achieve what your trying to do as I'm trying to accomplish the same thing, i have not fully gotten it working yet as i'm restricted to my network so any changes i do, i cant test till i go back to work and use their pc. So let me figure out my way and if i get it working ill tell you how i did it (looking for an alternative to mobile me). But back to your question. I'm going to explain the config settings in airport NAT forwarding. Just remember you imac has to have a static IP.
public udp port: "any port you want to use"- 3032
public tcp port: "same port as above" - 3032
private IP address: "the satic IP of you iMac" - 10.0.1.???
private udp and private tcp: 548
    that would be equivalent to
    "your-external-ip":3032
the way this works is that you router will take those port (3032) and know that you want to access the the port 548 on your imac ( the private ip),, basically the port 3032 is a substitute for port 548 on you imac.
I hope that helped, maybe you can help me.
I'm trying to access my airdisks remotely. im using that free dns thing, i thing its called dynDNS, and it works %100 as I use it to remote monitor my torrent downloads (transmission with clutch), so at work if i go to my server , i can access the remote torrenting easy because it works through the web browser, but i dont get how to access my airdisks. what do i need to do in windows to access is what im asking???
if you dont mind, i could email you my web address ( im kinda cautious of posting it) and maybe you can test it for me. Do you have a windows pc??

  • I have my HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 A connected to my Mac Book Pro on a Wireless network. It works and

I have my Hp Officejet Pro 8500 A connected to my MAc Book Pro which is running Lion OS on a wireless network.  It works just fine and prints and everything.  The problem is a "HP Utility" window that pops up on my screen and says it is "connecting to device" and lists my printer.  It just runs and runs and the entire thing is gray - meaning I can't close it, cancel it, or anything. When you try to click on it, the arrow becomes the color wheel of death.   It is driving me crazy.  I have gone through settings, I have downloaded the latest drivers, I have looked in utilities, I have opened the printer folder and can't find where this thing is coming from or how to turn it off.  Please help.  And yes I have turned offf the computer and rebooted.

If you are using Snow Leopard or Lion and have HP software for pre-Snow Leopard (either from a CD not marked as compatible with 10.6 or you recently upgraded to Snow Leopard or Lion and had the HP software on your Mac before you upgraded - even if you did a standard uninstall of the old software or installed new software over the top of it) you must uninstall the software using the 'scrubber' option:
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
    Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Press and hold Control + Alt + Cmd keys on the keyboard simultaneously while you click on Uninstall <<<< This IS the Scrubber Option, there is no button labeled "Scrubber"
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
    Restart your Mac
    Download and install this: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
    Now reset the printing system:
    - Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
    - Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
    - Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.
If you want more features, you can download and install the Full Featured software from the "Support & Drivers" button at the top of this page, otherwise, basic printing and scanning will work without it.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.
    I am employed by HP
