1 ipod 2 pcs problem

I recently got a new laptop and wish to use my ipod interchangeably between the new computer and the old computer. I have installed itunes plus the updater on the new computer and when I insert my ipod it recognises it as a disk but not in itunes. The ipod works fine on the old laptop and I'm wondering how to have the ipod recognised on the new computer without completely erasing the ipod.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely.
Jon

This post from Apple FAQ, should be relevant to what you want to do:
Question: I have a computer at home and one at work. Can I update my iPod music collection from more than one computer?
Answer: Yes. When you first connect iPod to your computer, iPod recognizes that computer as its "home" computer. Each time you connect, iPod automatically downloads the music library stored on it. When you connect iPod to a different computer, iPod asks for permission before synchronizing with this music library. If you choose Auto-sync, iPod recognizes the second computer as its home computer and breaks the link with the original computer. If you do not choose Auto-sync, iPod switches to manual update mode, allowing you to selectively drag songs, albums, or playlists from the second computer to your iPod.
Synchronization occurs only in one direction, from your computer to your iPod. This means you cannot transfer music, automatically or manually, from your iPod to a computer, and you cannot use iPod to copy a music library from one computer to another. But, if you legally are allowed to copy music files, you can configure your iPod as a hard disk to move music files.

  • Ipod syncing problems...?

Im having several ipod syncing problems. I have an Ipod touch, 4th gen with the standard USB cable that comes with to charge it and sync it with. Today, i plugged it into my computer like normal to sync some new songs onto it from itunes. But, it started acting up. First, it kept syncing on and off, and the sync sound wouldnt stop- it wouldnt stay synced. then, later, when it finally did, not long after it said "this device does not support charging," and itunes didnt recognize my ipod anymore, so i couldnt sync my songs. is there any way i can fix this? thanks in advance.

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • [iPod 5G] Problems with Windows' iTunes keeping it synced.

I've been struggling to get my iPod 5G working on my windows computer. This is what happens EVERY time:
    - I connect my iPod, it gives me "Cannot read the content of the iPod XXX...."
    - I Restore my iPod (have also formatted it completely several times).
    - the iPod shows up in iTunes and it syncs.
    - I take the iPod out and i reconnect and it starts all over again and i get: "Cannot read the content of the iPod..."
Connecting the iPod to my MacBook will make it appear in iTunes and I'll be able to see the music and update it.
Things i've tried (in semi-random order, except for the last one):
    - Updated the iPod (1.2.1)
    - Restored the iPod about 10x
    - Different USB port and different iPod connection cable
    - Erased the iPod (3x): using Windows' format tool 1x and the Disk Utility in OS X 2x.
    - Uninstalled iTunes, Reinstalled.
    - Fresh install of Windows XP.
Could this be an iPod related problem? (it seems to work fine on my Mac)
Could this be an iTunes 7 related problem?
The iPod is brand-new, i got it after my old one had gotten a white screen that wouldn't go away. Could it be a faulty iPod they gave me?
P.S. Please don't suggest to 'just sync it with your mac' because it should work with the Windows computer that holds all my music.

    hi chris
    the difference is:
at home i've started it and it has been running 12 hrs without touching it
outside i've used it while running through the park five times, so i started and stopped it five times without touching it otherwise (didn't change songs)
do these five times starting/stopping waste 8,5 hrs battery runtime?

  • 5g Ipod.  Problem with Firmware 1.2.1

Like many out there, I upgraded my iTunes software to ver. 7 and subsequently the iPod firmware to ver. 1.2.1. This resulted in the iPod "freezing" problem many others have reported. I've gone through the exercise (twice) of uninstalling iTunes 7, installing the version of iTunes on my installation disk (I believe it's earlier than 6.0.5) and then installing firmware provided in Updater 2006-6-28 (1.1.2). Problem is that iTunes doesn't recognize anything in my music or video library and the only way (so far) to solve this is to upgrade back to Itunes 7.0.2 but not to upgrade to firmware 1.2.1. My iPod now works but when I sync to iTunes, many of the videos (TV shows) I've purchased won't transfer to my iPod. The reason given is that my iPod software is too old. This has also occured with any new video purchase.
Has anyone experienced something similar and is there a solution to this problem.

I am having this problem as well. It was irritating me so bad that i just reverted to 1.0 since i don't have any other version availible because itunes doesn't save the updates. I tried all of the 5"R"s and it still locked up as soon as i booted my iPod up.

  • Ipod-a problem machine?

    Hello everbody,
i´m a new 4gb nano user. After reading some posts here, i have a doubt...correct me if i´m wrong...but are ipods a problem machine? because all i can read is problems problems problems.
    thanks a lot

No, they are not. You have to put it into perspective.
    1. Nobody in here is sayingg "yeah, I love my iPod". They come here for technical help when they have a problem.
    2. Most of the questions asked in here are solved.
    3. Consider how many iPods there are in the world (upwards of 60 million). Then consider how many questions there are in these forums. Then take into account the fact that many of these questions are not related to the iPod, or that many are looking for advice on whether or not to buy an iPod, which model, etc.
I have had 5 iPods in my house, and only once did I have any sort of problem (due to a faulty iPod hardware piece, but Apple sent me a replacement in less than 2 weeks).

  • Ford Voice Control & iPod playlist problems

Ford Voice Control & iPod playlist problems
I am having problems with the voice control system and my video ipod (5th gen) in a new Ford Focus Coupè-Convertible which also has Bluetooth phone conectivity ( works great with my iPhone 3G) as well as USB & Voice Control
This is all done through a Sony audio unit (model Sony 6CD DAB) which has a Six disc CD changer built in, as well as the usual FM & AM Radio bands as well as DAB Radio.
My problem relates to the voice control of my ipod and playlists.
Now some commands work just great For example if I say the following sequence ( which the unit repeats back to me at each stage) it works great:
    "External Device"
    "iPod"
    "Play"
All works well as it starts playing whatever playlist the iPod was in prior to connection to the unit, or if no playlist had been selected it just plays the whole contents of the iPod. - It also works fine with the commands "Shuffle" or "Repeat".
But according to the user manual I am supposed to be able to play or select a specific playlist by voice command using the following syntax as quoted from the manual:
'...create playlists named with the structure "Ford<*>" where <*> is a number 1-10. For example "Ford7" without any spaces between "Ford" and the number.
So I made several playlist called
    Ford1
    Ford2
    Ford3
and so on up to Ford10.
Now according to the voice commands list I should say the following phrases which like before, are repeated back to me by the system:
    "External Device"
    "iPod"
    "Playlist"
    Then the unit responds with
    "Playlist Number Please"
Then according to the manual I should say the following:
    But when I say either
    'Ford1'
    Or
    '1'
Or any right up to 'Ford10' / '10'
It responds bystating that playlist number (X) not available.
I have also tried with the quotation marks ("") around the name eg "Ford1", but that has not worked either.
So I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this problem and knew a solution, or could tell me where I am going wrong.
Although my car is a UK model, I believe that this voice control system is available with Sony units in American cars as well.
Hope you can help as this is driving me nuts!
    Thanks

    Hi Drusus.
I also have a European Ford (Focus ST - 2009) with the same problem.
Have you found any solution to the problem, or know if its possible to contact Ford...?
    Cheers.

  • Having Windows & iPods detection problems?

Try Microsoft article below - has to do with iPod detection problem. Try This...
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925196

Sounds like there may be a problem with your install ..
    perhaps you have two
different play version on your PC (eg you've installed a
    newer version, but
old one didn't fully uninstall itself).
One possible solution (if that is the case) is to run the
    uninstall utility
from Adobe, then search your harddrive for any files matching
    *flash*.ocx ..
and if they are actually flash players (look at properties
    version info tab
to ensure they are macromedia/adobe flash player ocx's -
    don't want to kill
something to do with flash memory (say)) then delete them.
    Also kill off
the c:\windows\system\macromed\flash folder .. so then you
    have no flash
player ocx left. Then go to the Adobe web site and
    re-download/install the
latest Flash Player. NOTE: if you do this, be very careful
    you only delete
things that can safely be deleted without causing problems
    elsewhere.

  • My ipod having problem in putting up songs. and i cant sync the songs. what will i do?

my ipod having problem in putting up songs. and i cant sync the songs. what will i do?

back up the device in icloud and restore it back to factory settings after doing so setup as new and see if the issue is still there. If it's not merge your icloud info back into your device by just loging in with your apple id after the the setup is complete.

  • U2 iPod Clickwheel Problems

The clickwheel on my iPod has died! All of the other buttons work, but i can't scroll up or down. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remedy the problem, or will i have to pay much money to Apple to sort the thing out. I have tried all of the usual remedies! Did i mention the problem started 3 days after the warranty ran out.......typical!

You're a bit stuck with your old one because if you try to restore it (which would be an obvious step), you'll lose all the data on it. And you're correct in thinking that if you send it for service you'll also lose the data.
However, you could try to put the songs from your iPod back into iTunes using the instructions/suggestions here before you replace or send your iPod in.
    Check out the instructions/suggestions here.
    Music from iPod to computer.
There's also another method. I've successfully tested this across several different Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), there's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Now you see why it's important to have a back up. : )

  • IPod 5G Problem Writing Video to Disk

I just purchased an "open box" model of a 30Gb iPod with video this weekend. I have no trouble downloading songs, but I cannot seem to download 2 TV shows that were purchased on iTunes.
The error message says "Attempting to copy to the disk (iPod name) failed. The disk could not be read from or written to." I could not locate an error message number. The error pops up when the video is almost done loading.
    Any suggestions?

hmmmmmm. this document is the best place to start with that one:
"Disk cannot be read from or written to" when syncing iPod or "Firmware update failure" error when updating or restoring iPod
... but if it looks like the files themselves are damaged, it would be best to report the problem to the iTunes Store. the email form at the bottom of this FAQ would probably be the best one to use:

  • Xbox and Ipod Touch Problem

Hey, I have and Ipod Touch and an Xbox 360 and want to connect my Touch to the Xbox to play music while playing a game, but my Xbox doesn't pickup the Touch. But my Touch charges, anyone know why or know a link to a similar problem that can help me in anyways?
By the way, my old Ipod worked when I did this, just not the Touch, and also Touch is 1st Gen.

    Anyone know how to fix?

  • Ipod Touch Problems (ios 6.1.6)

This is will be kind of long so please bare with me and read if you think you can help. I could really use it
This started after the recent update from Itunes. So after updating my Itunes i tried to add music onto my iPod like i normally do. it came up and said it couldn't recognize my iPod. so i unplugged it and plugged it in again. when that happened everything seemed to work just find until i tried to add a song to my iPod. My Itunes froze on me all the while deleting every single song from my iPod. now what makes it weird is through iTunes it shows all my songs on my iPod but when actually going through my iPod there was "No Content" . So i restarted my Itunes and again tried to add more songs. Only difference now was i  dragged the songs over. But nothing happened. Out of last stitch effort,i managed to add all my songs back and everything was fine. until the next time it came for me to add songs to my iPod.
My iTunes would freeze horribly the minute i would try to add a song. Thankfully this time it didn't delete anything off of my iPod. i would have to Ctrl+ALT+Dlt & end the process cause just trying to close it out from the task manager would just freeze it even more. So after that i decided that i would revert back to an older version of Itunes hoping that it would fix everything. So uninstalling the newer version of Itunes I installed a previous version that caused me no problems whatsoever. But to my dismay They same thing kept happening even when using the older versions of Itunes. It would freeze the minute i would try and add a song. So i stopped adding songs on my iPod for a couple of weeks. and even went through a MASSIVE cleaning on my computer just in case it could have possibly been a Windows problem.
So this last go round i decided after a couple weeks i would try and add 3 songs to my iPod. The minute that happened my Itunes froze and deleted every single song off my iPod. So to cut my losses i factory reset my iPod in hopes that would fix the problems if it was in fact my iPod and not the Itunes Software. That's when the strange things started happening. I slowly started adding songs back and it was working as i was doing 5-6songs at a time in hopes of not freezing it by adding to many songs at once. I got to the "S"'s and it immediately froze my computer and deleted all my songs off my iPod again. So starting over,i decided to add 2-3 songs this time and once again when i got to the "S"'s my iPod froze and deleted all my songs off my iPod. This happened about 8-9 times at that point i had enough.
I got into contact with Apple support tech and through the phone we went through the steps of  uninstalling each component. that's when another problem occurred. for some reason i had 2 Apple Mobile Device supports. one that was from the recent update this year. and one that said it was from 11/7/2011. were that came from i dont know. i managed to safely uninstall the most recent AMD. but couldn't do the same for the older version. it kept telling me that it couldn't find the .MSI file
That's when i scoured all over the apple forums to find a remedy to this situation. from unzipping the Itunes setup,to trying to repair it. to using revo setup to get rid of this AMD that wouldn't go away. so i stumbled on a windows program called fix it. which it showed me 2 AMD even though it was only that one device from 2011 since i successfully deleted that file. fixit managed to remove both files. so i figured i was in the clear. i re-downloaded Itunes again, but the problem is STILL there.  My Questions are
Is there a solution that hasn't been thought of?
Could it just be my iPod is the problem and it's time for a new one?
would a possible 3rd party iPod manager work instead?
is there a possibility to downgrade to a previous ios for my iPod?
I really dont know what else to do. Ive tried every remedy Ive seen on this forum and from what the tech's told me and even they dont have a clue what to do. unfortunately I'm over my warranty so sending it in for a new one is not an option anymore. i just want to make sure Ive done all i can before giving up and tossing this thing in the trash.

    I would try:
    - Another cable
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - on another computer to help deptermine if yo have an iPod or computer problem
    - If a computer problem then:
    - You can either backup your data and do a fresh install of Windows
    - Restore your Windows to an earlier point i in before the problem started
    - Wait for an update to iTunes
Yes yo can use a program like iFunBox to manually copy music and some other things to and from the iPod and computer.
Downgrading the iOS is not supported by Apple

  • IPOD touch problems.. pls help!!!

My son recently received a IPOD touch for Christmas...that was the 25th, were on day 3 now of trying to hook this thing up... we can't please HELP!
I have downloaded itunes... twice. ( uninstall, reinstalled)
I keep getting a meesage that says " make sure your network connection is active and try again" when we try to go to the ITUNES store.
So, I was told to drive to Mcdonalds & try and hook up their.... We were able to connect but before I could get him any games and music, I was told to create an account... I did this.... had to drive back home to activate the account... once I clicked on the link to activate from my email I received a message that says " WE COULD NOT COMPLETE YOUR ITUNES STORE REQUEST. AN UNKNOWN ERROR OCCURED (11222) THERE WAS AN ERROR IN THE ITUNES STORE. PLEASE TRY AGAIN LATER."
I then decided to run the diagnostic in the help section of the ITUNES store.... when I did this a thing failed talking about no audio CD card found. Also, it says " SECURE LINK TO ITUNES STORE FAILED"
I have been through all of the self help. YES... I made sure firewall has ITUNES safe to go through. I have checked marked all the proper locations.
I called my internet provider they were of no help to me but assured me my internet connection is running fine.
Please, help me get thing working for this little guy. PLEASE.. this has been so frustrating... He's 11 ( you can imagine his patience level) Poor kid has been doin triple on chores & straight A's to get this IPOD for x-mas & now I can't get it to work. I feel jsut horrible.
I have a windows vista. cable connection, no wireless, had virus protection I uninstalled & my bonehead husband decided to do a system restore on my computer and now the dang virus protection is STILL on my computer and I cant uninstal it.... is THAT causing the problems?
    What? Anything?? Please help!!!

Whoa .... first thing - do not un-install or disable virus protection! You may need to get the virus protection software to recognise your iTunes but don't un-install it!
Next - don't bother driving to any fast-food outlet, there is life without them. (You probably need to get your store account working from a home PC before trying to get online from a public network that anyone can use!)
As you've downloaded iTunes, that suggests your internet connection is okay (so that's exactly what your internet provider will say). The message to "make sure your network connection is active and try again" means ... make sure the firewall is allowing iTunes to get online, you say it is, so is the connection itself active? If you can get to any web site through your browser - then yes, it is.
However, what's disturbing is the message "no audio CD card found". That seems unlikely in this day and age. Can you hear any sounds that are played on the computer, either from a web site or from a CD in the CD drive or sound file? If yes, then there is a sound card. If no, find out what this problem is.
    Got through all that?
With iTunes running, load a CD into your computer. Does it appear in iTunes, look on the left of the iTunes window, under devices, the CD should have appeared? The song names should be listed, If not, click on *Advanced/Get CD Track Names.* Click on import CD. It should be imported to iTunes and if you have the correct settings apllied, it should be copied onto the iPod at the next Sync.
If you manage this, try the Store, through your iTunes.
    How are you getting on?
    Phil

  • Some playlists don't show up - weird iPod syncing problems

Apologies if this question has been answered elsewhere - couldn't find the answer when I was searching the boards last night. Don't know if this is an iTunes problem or an issue with the touch...
Last night, I plugged my iPod touch (1G) into my MacPro to add some new music. This is when things got weird!
First, I noticed that my iPod's name had mysteriously changed since the last time I synced it. It used to be called "Christine's iPod" and now it has reverted to the default "iPod touch."
Next, when I went to add some different playlists to the iPod, I noticed that one of the playlists I wanted to add didn't show up in the Music tab, so I couldn't "tick" it for inclusion on the iPod. This isn't a new playlist, and I have successfully synced it with this iPod in the past. I tried renaming the playlist and making a new playlist with the same songs, and neither of these playlists showed up either. BTW, I definitely don't have too many playlists - I probably have 100-150 playlists total.
Anyway, I restored my iPod and starting from scratch - and the playlist still didn't appear to be available to sync. I ended up adding the playlist by "manually managing" my music, but this isn't an ideal solution. I'd like to be able to sync the playlist!!
Don't know if it's relevant, but my bf also has an iPod touch that he syncs to the same iTunes account. We have separate computer logins, and our iTunes Library is on a shared disk on our MacPro (to prevent needlessly wasting HD space due to song replication) and occasionally we both get messages saying we don't own or don't have permission to access the Library when opening iTunes. To solve this, we alter the permissions on the disk and apply to enclosed items. Maybe this happens after updating iTunes or adding new songs? Not certain what triggers it.
Thanks in advance - this is really bugging me!

This isn't foolproof but there are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song has no album name associated with it or 2) the song is marked as part of a compilation.
If tracks are missing an Album name (as mentioned above) in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances but the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous in place of a title. See this link for more detail: I don't see some of my songs when browsing by artist on my iPod
Also if the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. Compilations are stored in a separate folder in iTunes so the songs don't appear inside the normal Artist>Album folder which may be why this happens.
