1 master, many versions, 1 preview for each version?!!

One of the advantages of non destructive editing is to contain the increase of disk space required for having multiple versions of 1 master file (which is the one that takes most of the space on the hard drive). All this may vanish!
With aperture 1.5 you run the risk to have one preview for each version and, consequently, many enormous files piling up. Even if you do not actively create previews, they are created each time you run a slide show, and this takes up time and space!!
Did they find a new strategy to make you have bigger and bigger libraries and buy bigger and bigger disks?
Any way to avoid previews at any time?
maxbor

I think the previews make sense when either you want to share your photos with iLife or iWork, or when you have your raw files in an external HD.
This is how I'm minimazing the use of previews, just to share with iLife my favorite pics:
In preferences, I switch off "New Projects Automatically Generate Previews", "Share Previews With iLife and iWork" is on.
In the projects panel, I select the first project, I click on the wheel on the top right corner of the projects panel and untick "Maintain Previews". Continue doing this with every project.
Now I create two smarts albums, one with all the images rated 4 or 5* and other one with images rated 3* or lower. I go to the 4/5* one, select all the images there, right click on them and select "Update Previews". I go to the 3* or lower album, select all the images, right click on them and "Delete Previews".
From now on, all I have to do it's everytime I'm done with a project, in its browser I search for 4* or better rated images and "Update Previews".
No more waste of HD for pics I will never share with iLife or iWork.

I talked to your guys yesterday about installing correct version of Lightroom 5 which I legally owned, and your guy provided me a download link (different from Creative cloud account), but somehow it was for Windows version not for Mac version. I would very much like to download a Mac version, so please send my correct web link. By the way my s. number for Lightroom 5 up is [removed], and I also have s.number for 4 up and 3 full.

The latest non-CC version of LR 5 is 5.7.1 and download links are available on the Adobe Updates page:
    http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
Both Mac and Win links are there.
If you are asking for a LR 5 CC link, which wouldn't require a serial number, please be more clear about that.

    Good morning,
I'd like to work on the list of the new features for each of Hyperion Planning major version release: 9.0, 9.1, 9.2, 9.3, 9.3.1. But if there's already available guide/ chart for this, I'd love to refer to that particular documentation.
Thanks a lot and have a nice day

  • Are the "Previews" for each movie a indicator for quality?

I just got my Apple TV today and although I haven't bought any movies from it, I was wondering if when you're viewing a preview/trailer for a movie if that trailer is a good indication of the quality of the film?
I was watching a trailer for "Next Three Days" and it look pretty bad and began to wonder about my purchase.

Should not be an issue with the plasma, however do not expect AppleTV to give the best video experience - it cannot match Blu Ray for sheer quality and audio options simply due to the fact that you're using considerably less data for an AppleTV rental (1-1.5GB for SD, 3-4 GB for HD) vs a Blu Ray (up to 25GB of data to play with).
I am quite sensitive on my Panasonic plasmas to the issue of poor gradation in dark/bright scenes with AppleTV where you get discrete dark grey/white bands instead of smooth dark grey>black or near white>full white. While some of this could be my TVs, I found the SD preview for the latest Karate Kid film particularly revealing of the dark banding trait, and I opted to rent the Blu Ray instead which looked fine by comparison in darker scenes.
It may be the AppleTV, but I think it's more likely just lack of detail encoding inherent in the compression methods used. I also notice similar problems when viewing digital terrestrial TV on heavily compressed channels.

  • SharePoint 2013 - Document Set Capture Version History. Does each version captured for each document set keep a copy of all the document stored in the document set?

    Hi All,
We have currently encountered an issue where even though version control is turned on in a document library, changes made to the metadata of a document set is not tracked in a version history.
We have found that in order to this a user will need to manually click on the capture version history button.
With this in mind, we are concerned about the impact of this on our storage. The question we have been trying to answer is whether each document set version:
stores the change in metadata of the document set and a copy of all the documents stored in the document set
stores the change in metadata of the document set and a reference to the documents stored in the document set (making use of SharePoint 2013's shredded storage)
The reason we ask this is that if a document set version stores a copy of all the document stored in a document set, a change in one of the fields in the document set could result in the storage used to grow exponentially. e.g. if the document set contains
documents totaling 30MB, and if we have 10 versions of the document set, we could take up 300 MB in the content database for just one document set.
We have tried to some searching around Google but wasn't able to find any answers around this question. Would appreciate some assistance from anyone who has knowledge around how document set version history works.
    Thanks in advance.
    John

i had a long thing written out, but submit failed.  suffice to say it does "2".  it only stores the changes with pointers to the documents.

  • Where can I find the system requirements for each version of firefox. I would like to know which version of Firefox is best for my 6-8 year old computer with AMD Sempron 2500+ 1,75 GHz and 512 RAM.

I tried to find information of that very hard in your pages but missed. Is it possible to have system requirements somethere in firefox homepages?
I don't want to try a newer version and then have a hard fishing of the earlier version which works.

  • Calling a webhelp with different TOCs - or other solution for multiple versions

    Hello all,
several help version are required, but due to space limitations on the server it is not possible to produce a separate output (using condition tags) for each version. Most of the content is common to all versions. One approach would be to use a common help system and to display it via different webhelp start files, using different TOCs. Do you see a chance for this? It is no problem if the search function shows topics from other versions, but the TOC should be unique.
In the old CHM days I would have used mudularized subprojects merged in different masters. But this does not seem possible in Webhelp because all subprojects would have to be copied multiple times in the master project's "merged projects"- subfolders.
    Any ideas are welcome.

    Hi Robert.
The problem you'll have with this approach is there are a variety of output files that are referenced by the start page. It may be possible to manually amend the .HHC file in the output to meet your requirements (obviously making sure you make a backup first) but leave everything else intact but you'd have to amend this for each output if only one version is really the only option.

  • Practical, experience-oriented recommended device (f/w? /) s/w version(s) for all PC-centric activities on the TELUS Mobility BB Tour 9630

Hey all ... I am wondering if I can pick people's brains and get good advice re: practical experience-oriented recommended device (f/w? /) s/w version(s) for all PC-centric activities on the TELUS Mobility BB Tour 9630, including the PC-resident s/w(pkgs) & USB / USB Serial drivers (on XP Pro SP3).
I will likely be wanting to upgrade various (f/w? /) s/w components after a 3 year hiatus on the BB front  ... however, based on my own IT experience, newer / newest (f/w?) / s/w(pkgs) is (are) not always best for the end-user, and, can even be limiting in certain identifiable respects ... I'm speaking in general terms here ... so ... it may be that the latest BB s/w is the absolute best way to go for my PC O/S platform and Tour device ... I'm just throwing out there this notion of making an educated determination as to which upgrades to install and to what version level, in case the general suspicions I outlined above have any merit.
I don't have (or want) Data enabled on this 9630, so, getting screen captures or Copied text off it (like all the information in Options > About: "BlackBerry (R) 9630, smartphone (3G, CDMA), v5.0.0.419 (Platform 4.2.0.179), 3G Bands 1 ... " [and, or course, there's lots more info on that screen ... ]) have so far eluded me (any suggestions or help on that front would be greatly appreciated) ... perhaps most of the device-relevant version info required by forum members to help me make this determination also appears in my PC screenshots below.
Here's what I have left over on my PC from my dealings with my BB Storm 9530 from 3 years ago:

More simply put ... should I upgrade my TELUS Tour 9630 software (currently at:  v5.0.0.419 [Platform 4.2.0.179] to the most currently available software, whatever version # / Platform # that may be?
Or, is there some advantage in upgrading only to a certain BlackBerry Operating System version level on this particular device?
For your 9630, you already are on the latest OS level that Telus released/supports. I do not know if other carriers have released anything more advanced, but you can read some very good discussion here:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Tour/Verizon-Tour-Users-Revert-to-old-OS-here/td-p...
Based on what I've seen, I'd surmise that there is nothing "newer" than what you have...at least not officially...but you can dig through the official download portal to validate that:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/apps-and-software/desktop-and-device-download-sites.html
Given that it's the carriers who hold responsibility for releasing BB OS packages to their customers, that portal is indeed sorted first by carrier...so you must first dig to discover which carriers support your 9630 and then compare the OS packages that each supporting carrier has released. Sadly, it is also the responsibility of the carriers to release change log information, but all too many of them are rather lax on that point. But, that thread I linked for you above has I believe some very good information that might help you in your quest. You also should seek out other threads here (and elsewhere) on similar topics.

And, should I upgrade the BlackBerry USB Driver / USB Serial Driver / Device Manager / Desktop Manager software on my XP Pro SP 3 PC to the most recently available versions? (screenshots in 1st post show all the current version #'s ... this software was all installed circa mid-2009)
Or, is there some advantage in upgrading only to certain BlackBerry software version levels for each of the items referenced above ... in the case of this particular device?
The Desktop Software does not care about the specific device. Rather, it provides certain capabilities that you must choose from. For instance, if you need the ability to export from your BB to CSV/ASCII, then you need to stay behind in the version 6 range as that function was removed from version 7. Likewise, if you are intending to synchronize your BB with a desktop PIM (e.g., Outlook), you need to ensure that you are running a Desktop Software version that is compatible with your PIM:
KB12268Synchronization support for BlackBerry Desktop Software for Windows
If neither of those are important and/or compatibility is fine with the latest version, then it's usually wisest to stick with the latest version for bug fixes, feature enhancements, etc. That is not to say that folks don't have problems with the latest version...perusing the Desktop Software board on this site will bear that out quite quickly indeed! But, by and large, there should be no harm/no foul to using the latest Desktop Software version with your BB.
Further, it's always a good idea to also download and install to your PC the BB OS package that is actually running on your BB. Doing this somewhat customizes the Desktop Software so that it can best work with your specific BB environment. You cannot pick and choose what components within the Desktop Software you wish to upgrade (that "line item" mention you made)...rather, you install the entire package, and it contains within it whatever it has as "current" based on the overall version of the Desktop Software package.
    Hope that helps! Good luck!

  • Could there be independent VI paths for different versions of LabVIEW?

    Hello,
When jumping between different versions of LabVIEW (6.1, 7.1, 8.5) it is annoying that the current path for one becomes the current path for the other.
If I am working with LV 7.1 in a folder dedicated to 7.1 VI's, and then open LV 8.5, I don't want 8.5 to go to that 7.1 folder by default.  Alternately. if I was working in LV 8.5, closed it out, and then I click on a 7.1 VI, I don't want it to open in LV 8.5.
I've tried changing the path options in each version of LabVIEW, but that doesn't seem to help.  Is there any way of isolating these folder paths from one another?  One of our newer LV guys accidently opened some 7.1 code in 8.5.1 and then saved it.  Luckily, I had archived code to return to, but it could have been a disaster.
    Thanks for any ideas,
    McSynth

You're actually asking two different questions.
The first question has to do with which version of LabVIEW gets launched when you double-click a file. This is an operating system thing. The one that gets launched is the last one that got used. (Your first question will be: can this be changed? Answer: Change the operating system. Or, play around with the registry each time you quit out LabVIEW.)
The second question has to do with search paths. These are independent. However, a VI will contain information about its subVIs in terms of where to find them. This is not a function of LabVIEW, as it is a function of the VI. Thus, it will make no difference which version of LabVIEW you use to open the VI. You can, if you wish, modify the search paths that LabVIEW uses to find VIs for each version of LabVIEW from the Tools->Options menu. However, this will not eliminate the problem, and your best bet is to keep those backups frequent.

  • How can I distribute an application using Reprot generation Toolkit for MS Office for different versions of MS Office?

I want to create an application which uses the Report Generation Toolkit for Microsoft Office. The office version of the target machine depends on what my customer has installed.
From several discussions I have seen that the installer detects which version I have on my development machine. I'm not able to hold three or four machines with different versions (97,2000,2002,XP).
I decided to do the following software architecture:
I create a LLB MakeReport.llb with a VI called MakeReport.vi. With VI server I will start MakeReport.vi in MakeReport.llb. Over a named queue I will send a command from my application to MakeReport.vi. Then the report will be
    printed.
I will create this LLB by saving MakeReport.vi with File>>Save with options...>>Application distribution. All neccessary VIs will be in the LLB.
I will hold different directories for each version. I can create different version of the LLB. During installation of my application the LLB for the right version will be copied from the CD to the application folder.
I know I will be restricted in testing my report in only one version and hoping it will be good in the other versions.
I think that the difference lays only in the word and excel related llbs.
    1. Will my software architecture work or is it obviously wrong?
    2. How will I get all versions from the toolkit CD?
    3. Which is the registry key I must read to get the right version (a minor question, if somebody knows I do not need to search for myself).

Lookout saves the files in .csv form which can be opened in Excel. I did make some progress by using the "append table to report" vi which allowed me to put values into an array and then those values were entered into my template on my report vi.
Where I am stuck now is I want to be able to put values into my template from a .csv file, not from an array I have to manually put numbers in.
Once those values are in my template I want to pull summed values from the template and place them into a final excel file for printing.
I have attached examples of the files I am working with to help you better understand what I am trying to do.
    I hope that makes sense.

  • Version Switches for Acrobat documents

When I read a PDF manual, such as the one for Lightroom 2, I am very irritated by the repetitive "Control X Windows Command X Mac" and such phrases.  I think it is irritating and distracting enough to make it more difficult to learn the content.  The same happens in lots of books about Photoshop and other programs.
When I buy a new car, and read the manual (I know no-one does, but I do), there are paragraphs and even pages which do not apply to my car, but only to the more or less luxurious model.  If you get to read the manual as a PDF file, it is just the same.
I only have the reader.  Does Acrobat for authors have a way of setting version switches at the beginning of a document?  The reader would indicate at the beginning of the document which version he needs to view or print - Windows or Mac, for instance.
Then authors could have a flag to show which phrase, paragraph or page should be shown or printed for each version.  The printed version would be shorter, reducing printing costs.
Is this already possible in Acrobat, or could it be considered as a new feasture to make Acrobat even more irrisistable?
    Bryan Stone

There's currently no way to do in Acrobat what you described. What you can do is have two versions of the same document combined into a single PDF and on the first page you instruct the user to select which of the two they want to view. You can even add buttons that print just one of the two. It's also possible to put each version in a separate file and put the two files into a catalog.

  • 0o we require a seperate server for each JWS app

We have an app that runs on JWS and uses a fairly large MS SQL database. We currently host this on our server. We use ServletExec and Win2k and IIS. Most customers do not have MS SQL on their laptops. Each customer wants to login and use their own version of our application together with their own version of the database.
Q: could we host several versions (one for each customer) of our app on a single server with one IP address, or do we need a different server with different IP for each?

I've used many UNIX databases, not SQL
database, and I don't know how SQL database
handles authentication, but with Oracle, for
instance, it would be easy to run any number
of apps and databases from a single directory
    on any web server.
One way to differentiate DB instances would
be by specifying a -D property in the JNLP
    launch commands.
Any half-descent web server will permit you
to control access to individual files by
    source address and/or passwords.
