10.4.6 upgraded my Airport firmware!

As the title says, I just downloaded the intel build of 10.4.6 and I immediately checked my firmware version, just in case, and voila, it changed from 0.1.12 to 0.1.17. I ran network utility:

This seems to have eliminated my problem with wireless (I will be keeping my eye on it though). For now, all of those 200+ms figures have gone away, along with that annoying packet loss problem (I was going at about a 50% success rate before this update)!

you can also get the mother load download which will update more than what software update "thinks" you need.
I usually get the full version to make sure that everything is addressed in case I accidentally deleted something I should not have.

and weighs in at 191 mb.

  • Is Apple aware that upgrading to Airport firmware version 7.6.3 disables any internal FTP servers from getting past the router?

I have a ReadyNas that has been working flawlessly for several years which allows for FTP access. The Airport router was working fine with it until upgrading to 7.6.3, where upon nobody (including me) could connect from outside the network. I just reverted back to 7.6.1 and it works fine again. Has anyone else had this issue? Apple need to test their updates before putting them out!

    There are various feedback areas.

  • Can't find out how to install firmware upgrade to Airport.

I have 6.3.1 and need to get 7.3.1 or later. The apple support site puts me in an endless loop without any real help. My airport is working but has blinking orange light. The cable company says we need to get the latest version of Airport firmware in order to have full security and change the light to steady green.

Thanks to both of you. Here is my current status:
Tesserax, I had gone through those steps but I was not getting an Update button. Still am not seeing one.
Joseph Kriz, I went through the steps you gave me, and did not get an update button. When I went to About Airport Utility it says I have version 6.3.1, not 6.3.2, but I am not seeing a way to update.
When I click on the airport icon in the Airport utility I get a dialog box that says, "This version of Airport Utility requires this Airport Extreme use firmware 7.3.1 or later. Use Airport Utility 5.6 to update this base station. Airport Utility 5.6 is available at Airport Service and Support."
But when I go to Airport Service and Support I am not able to update anything. I go to the same place that Tesseract shows in his last post and there is no Update button.
So, I am stuck...     Ideas??   I appreciate your help.

    Hello Achates:
I did not read the rather long post. If you wish to reinstall OS X 10.4, use your software install DVD. Backup is essential. To minimize your risk, I would use an archive and install:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
In that way, you will have a fresh copy of OS X and your current settings will be preserved.
Incidentally, I do not agree that the printer problem is best solved by reinstalling OS X. I have had HP printers for sometime and, on one occasion, had difficulty after an upgrade. HP technical support walked me through uninstalling all traces of the HP driver and then reinstalling.

  • Coverage limited after upgrading of Airport Utility software

I've recently upgraded my airport utility software to 7.41 and have been having problem since in accessing the net from my room and sitting hall (no signal) which i don't have any problem all these while. I've tried resetting the airport, re-installing the software but to no avail. It's also causing an interference to my satelite TV as well. would really appreciate if someone can hlp me out.
    Thx!

Alpha1-Mac, Welcome to the discussion area!
More than likely installing the firmware caused the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) to use the "Automatic" channel selection. Most people find that frequently this does not select the best channel. Change it from "Automatic" and try channels until you find one which works better.

  • I upgraded my Airport Express from g to n and now my older desktop running 10.5.8 cannot connect even when I supply the correct password. Do I need to update the airport in the 10.5.8 system? What version is recommended?

I recently replaced my Airport Express (11g) to one running 11n. My iMac running 10.4.11 uded to work fine with 11g but now cannot connect to the 11n Airport Express.  I can see the network listed and it asks for a WAP2 password, but when I supply the password it fails to connect.
Do I need to upgrade the airport software on the iMac, and to which version.

    Tesserax,
Thank you for the suggestions. I tried first setting the radio mode to 802.11b/g compatible using the Option key hint that you supplied, but I got the same error message when I tried to join the network from my older Mac. (I apologize for saying in error that it was running 10.5.8, it was actually running 10.4.11--the last version that still supported Classic--and is a G4 PPC machine.)
The attempt to login to the network from the PPC machine gave me the standard log-in prompt, but I noticed that it asked for the WAP password, and my two other machines--both Intel MacBooks--get asked for the WAP2 password. The first time I noticed this I was still thinking the "error in trying to join the network" was a function of the 802.11n setup.
When your first suggestion didn't work, I reset the base station back to the original 802.11n (b & g compatible) but got the same error message--asking for a WAP password--so I went back into the setup, and selected the WAP/WAP2 Personal menu selection, restarted the base station, and was able to successfully join the network!
Your tip led me to the right place to fix my problem, Thank You,
    Bill Pratt

  • After upgrade to latest firmware canon network printer won't print

after upgrade to latest firmware canon network printer won't print. It's a canon MP540 on a wireless network. It will print a test page but won't print from any application, just sits there with the message 'copying print data'!
Running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74), with firmware SMC Version (system):          1.73f63.
    Any help gratefully received.

First off if you can print a test page there is absolutely no reason you wouldn't be able to print from a application...none.  But stranger things have happened now that we have Lion.  Within the application are you selecting the wireless printer........just had to check.
I have the MP620 which is simlar to your MP540 and have no problems printing from my MBA (June 2011).  I too have the latest firmware and software......without problems printing.
A few things I'd try would be to remove the wireless printer from your computer (in Preferences, printers), restart, and repair permissions.  Then add the wireless printer back, and see if it works.  If not.....power OFF the printer and turn back on.
If the above fails reinstall the printer driver (yours) I think you will have to plug in the USB cable.
Keep me updated and I'll tyr and help!

  • Upgrade problematic SMC firmware 1.7 on 2011 MacBook Pro before OS X upgrade?

I'll soon be installing OS X Mountain Lion on a 15" early-2011 MacBook Pro (8,2) currently running Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6.8). Should I upgrade its SMC firmware to the problematic v1.7 (which had number of battery-related or system-power problems reported about it in early 2013, if not since then) before the OS upgrade? (This firmware update was put out to users to "address a rare issue on some Apple notebooks where a battery that has accumulated more than 1000 charge cycles may unexpectedly shut down or stop functioning”; my Mac's battery has gone through just 352 cycles.)
Apple's EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Macs table says my Mac should have 1.69f4 (SMC 1.7), but that table as recently as mid-April this year listed instead 1.69f3 (SMC 1.5) as what my Mac should have (and that's the version it does have); and the current download page for that firmware, MacBook Pro SMC Firmware Update 1.7 (though dated Dec 12, 2012) says it requires OS X 10.7.5 or 10.8.2 - Lion or Mountain Lion.
I seem to remember that SMC firmware version disappearing from my Mac's Software Update listings, some while after I'd kept putting off choosing to install it because of the problems I'd read about it (including at least one reporting nightmarish troubles on same machine as mine) and because it didn't seem critical at my stage of battery life. Given the apparent ambiguity about which SMC firmware my Mac should or can have, and ensuing unwanted troubles after installation reported by at least a few folks, can I confidently install Mountain Lion without that SMC version, and then try to install it afterward?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • 5GHz wireless unavailable since upgrading E2500 to Firmware 2.0

My 5GHz wireless is unavailable since upgrading E2500 to Firmware 2.0.  I did a complete reconfiguration of the router after upgrading.  Anyone one have any ideas on how to fix this?
    Ed

I carefully followed the steps suggested.  I did a 30 - 30 - 30 second hard reset of the router, reflashed the firmware, then did another 30 - 30 -30 second hard reset.  Then I carefully reconfigured the router manually.  Still no 5GHz radio.  I then called Cisco support and they took me through severaltests, configuration checks, and reconfiguration steps.  They agreed that the 5GHz radio was not working.  I will be sending it back for warranty repair/replacement.
I configured my Verizon cable router wireless so I could take the Cisco router out of service.  I don't have the dual radios or the guest channel.
I think I may buy a wireless AP that is rated for small business usage.  I'm not sure the "home user" wireless routers are sufficiently robust for what now is home use.
Thank you very much to everyone who responded with answers, advice, etc.  Much appreciated.

The airport card on my macbook pro is not functioning. In the airport firmware folder it says that it opens with final cut express. Is this the problem and how do i solve it?

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers
Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
    2. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    3. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    4. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.
    6. System Preferences > Sound> Sound Effects
        Play sound effects through:
Select "Internal speakers" and then back to "Selected sound output device".

  • Lost my WEP password after upgrading my AIRPORT software

    A year ago, I joined SBCGlobal.net
I have a faint memory of a password that I had to insert in order for my G4 to use the network from a remote location. I also have a faint memory that wherever I got the password, it did not work, and after calling SBCI, I was told to insert a $ sign in front of the password. That worked.
I just today upgraded to Airport 4.2. When I restarted, my network was still visible under the Airport icon on the desktop, but the computer did not connect. Manually clicking on the network (2Wire....) brought up the WEP dialogue page and asked for my password.
Is this something I had to create, or was it supplied by the SBC folks? If it's gone forever, can I fix the problem in some way?
    Thank you,
    Anene

Read the user manual for your 2Wire router - it will tell you what the default WEP key is for your router.

  • Change/upgrade to Airport software

I just upgraded the Airport software (6.0) and I see it's had a makeover.  Is there anywhere to see what other devices besides computers are DHCP clients.  I have a power monitor and a solar panel interface that are both on the network but I don't see them anywhere in any of the Airpot windows.  I used to be able to find it in the "Logs and Statistics" I think.  And is there anywhere to set up a printer in Airport or is all of that done just in System Prefs.
