10.6.2 Front Row and iTunes video still stutters

I thought this was going to be fixed. What's really odd is Quicktime X no longer stutters.....
Was the FR stuttering "fixed" for anyone?

Further Clarification
Front Row will not play my HD content. Plays the .mp4 content fine, in fact plays it better over my wireless network than iTunes does over wireless but iTunes will not play .mp4 content now (10.6.2) without stutter even when loaded on the MAC HDD.
I have not used Front Row before because I always used iTunes with iPod Touch as the remote so I don't know if this has always been a limitation with Front Row. Still prefer the iTunes method but the bulk of my content is .mp4 format.
I'll probably go back to 10.5 so don't upgrade to Snow Leopard if you have mixed iTunes movie/TV content.

  • Different Playlists in Front ROW and iTunes

    Hello
I am new in using Front Row and i have some trouble with it.
When i use the MUSIC playlists then they are not the same playlist as they are in the itunes 9.
For example i have a "BEST OF" playlist. In this playlists are only 5 Star rated songs (about 60 songs) and when i open Front Row than i have in this playlist totally different songs aditionally.
By the way, is there any possibility to check how many songs are in the playlists in FRONT ROW, so i can compare to itunes.
    thx for help
    Markus

No, you are not dumb. It apparently does not show in Front Row.
Ugh.. I am getting so frustrated with this. Surely someone at Apple wants to be able to play their music videos contiguously from within Front Row...???

  • Front row and itunes turning on when apple tv begins

Why does my computer itunes and front row always turn on my computer when I start watching my apple tv?  They play two different things.  I start watching the apple tv and then my computer will start blaring my itunes library or will start a movie using front row.  How do I stop this from happening?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your remote is controlling both devices.
If you don't want to use a remote with your computer the easiest thing to do is just to turn the IR off. (System_Preferences/Security/General)
If you still want to use your computer remote then you must pair your computers remote with the computer AND the Apple TV remote with the Apple TV.
To pair a remote with a device hold down the menu and FF buttons together for six seconds or until you see a chain icon on screen (best take the computer into another room, or turn it off, when you do this)

  • Front Row and itunes problem

Just got my new Macbook Pro and migrated my stuff over from my Powermac Quad G5. Problem when I try to run itunes from Front Row saying that my library is empty and no songs could be found. I have re - set the music folder in i-tunes but that hasn't corrected it.....I have around 3000 songs in the library which work ok when I open from the itunes icon.
I photo works just fine, but also getting the server problems when trying to load movie trailers.

Same here. I just got my new MacBook Pro two weeks ago, and I tried to use Front Row this week, and it claims that my iTunes library is empty. However, I have 228 songs, and when I launch iTunes normally, it is fine. Front Row launches iPhoto, movie trailers, and DVDs just fine. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

  • How can I stop my apple tv remote from affecting my laptop?  It turns on Front Row and iTunes.

Every time I use the remote to my apple tv it interferes with my macbook and starts the Front Row application or change the volume or make iTunes start playing.  Even if I am standing away from the laptop with my body between the lap top and the apple tv using the remote this happens.  It drives me insane and makes me want to throw my laptop out the window.  Truly, this is making me crazy.

    Hi All,
I have a problem... my SETTINGS / SECURITY/ GENERAL tab does not have an option for IR?
    I'm on a macbook pro 10.7.5
    My options are:

Show a messsage when screen saver is locked
Disable Automatic Login (this is checked)
    Allow application downloads from:
    Mac App Store
mac App store & identified developers

HELP! My remote just keeps playing itunes on my macbook pro when i'm trying to change the channels on Apple TV. Argh!

  • Front Row versus iTunes

Upgraded my G5 dual 1.8 tower to Leopard. Couldn't wait to use Front Row on the 30" Apple Cinema Display.
Heart-broken to discover that all my movies and tv shows from my iTunes library are practically unwatchable when played through Front Row. The video barely holds itself together, looking as if it were streaming video playing through a slow internet connection, rather than from a file sitting in my internal hard drive's iTunes library.
So why do those same videos play flawlessly in full screen when I play them through iTunes?
It couldn't be the video card... It's an ATI x800, with 256MBs of VRAM.
Could Front Row be such a memory hog that it needs more than the 2.5GBs of RAM I already have just to play video files from my internal drive smoothly?
Could it be that Front Row requires so much processing power that the G5's dual 1.8 processors just aren't fast enough?
Obviously, If the solution is more RAM, my problem can be solved. If it's processing power, I'm screwed.
Does anyone know why Front Row can't play video on my system when iTunes plays it perfectly?
    Thanks in advance!

Wow. Good question, Doug. Yes, playing the files through Quicktime full screen produces the same stutter effect. Not as bad as through Front Row, but bad enough to notice. What does that mean?
P.S. Yes, these are all movies & TV shows I bought from the iTunes store. (Lost, Rosemary's Baby, The Office, etc.)

  • Using Front Row to access Video, etc. on other networked Macs.

The ability to use the new version of Front Row and Bonjour to access viedo, photos, and music on other networked Macs seems very interesting, but I have a question.
Suppose for example, I buy the new Mac Mini and set it up with my audiovisual system ... and I have other Macs in my home network (e.g.,a G4, iBook, and G5). Do the other computers have to be able to run Front Row in order for their video/photo/audio files to be accessed by the new Mac Mini and played thru my AV system?
In my case, for example, my G4, G5 (Quad) and iBook (G3) don't have Front Row and at the present time Front Row is not available for these Macs.
    G4, G5, iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Phillip,
When I was trying out FrontRow on my computer, I got access to video on my PC by simply creating an alias for the files and dropping them into the Movies folder on the mac. FrontRow will show the aliases fine and when you select them will conect to the server (if not already connected) and start playing. This is totally cool! So... you don't really need the video to be in an iTunes shared library if you dont want to go that way.
    Nevermind
PS. Of course ZeroConf is pretty cool too!

  • ISight, Front Row and Apple remote problems

I've been using my iMac G5 with the built in iSight for a month now with no problems, however a few days ago I tried to pause iTunes with the remote and nothing happend.
I have since tried to use Front Row and cannot launch it with the keyboard shortcuts, or indeed, find it anywhere on my hard drive. Very strange as I have certainly not deleted it and only updated it to 1.01 recently.
I have also tried to use my iSight to test the remote using an Apple help sheet but when I launch iChat AV it tells me I have no camera installed! I know it did work as I took a photo of myself when I first set the Mac up.
Apple's advice on deselcting the 'Disable remote control infrared receiver' checkbox in 'system preferences>scurity' confuses me further as I cannot find this checkbox anywhere.
I have performed all the updates with Software Updat, repaired permissions and checked the disk with no problems found.
    Any advice?
    Thanks in advance. Jon
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Front Row will be included with the next version of Mac OS X to come out next year, version 10.5 (Leopard). Until it's released, there is no legal way for you to use Front Row. Also, until it's released, we won't know what hardware will work with it (as far as remote controls). If history is any indication, it will be a $129 upgrade for your current Mac mini.
There are a couple of options for you right now, though. There's a shareware program called Media Central that will work similar to Front Row for you.

  • Front Row and an external hard drive?

I would like to be able to access files--pictures and movies--using Front Row and the remote, but would like to access these files from an external hard drive. Is this possible to set up/do? Thanks for the help!

    Jack,
Create an alias to any folder on your MBP and you can then modify it to point at a folder on your read-only drive. Just open the Get Info window on the alias and Select New Original from the General section. It might not refresh to look as if it's changed the path, but it has. Close the Get Info window and re-open it to see that it's changed. Rename the alias to something more appropriate and move it to the Movies folder of your MBP. Front Row will display the folder in the Movies section of Videos.

  • Quiting front row and continue to play music

It used to be that front row would continue to play music after you quit it from the same playlist but this isn't the case anymore. If you are using FR to listen to music and quit the music stops playing. Anyone know how to have the music continue to play?

Well as much as I like the look of the new Front Row, I don't like the same thing, That it stops playing music upon closing. The older one (Tiger) was so much better Animation and usefulness wise. It also supported Air-Tunes (my best friend). So I thought to myself, "is there any way i can switch back to Front Row from Tiger (A.K.A. Front Row w/ Air Tunes)". I went on a hunt on the internet and I came across this web site
    http://www.edalytical.com/articles/2008/01/16/front-row-and-airtunes-back-to-tig er-for-me
When typing the code into the terminal field, you can just copy and past for safety if need be.
Just rememeber to exorcize caution whenever using terminal, for it can really do damage.
And one more thing, I've realized that when going to the video/movies section it likes to freeze (though it always has for me for some reason when I was running Tiger). DVD Function works perfectly.
    Hope that helps!

  • M30 - Front Mode and Audio/Video Control buttons don't work

    Hi
The Front Mode and Audio/Video Control Buttons Don't Work
    Any ideas?

    Hi
As far as I know the Toshiba Controls utility is responsible for key usage.
Did you try to install Toshiba Controls?
Check the Toshiba driver page for this driver.

  • Front row plays dvd video but no sound

I tried several dvds in front row and I can't get any sound from them. I can play avi type movies, music and on but I get no sound from dvd's. I can play them on dvd player and get sound but not front row. been running into alot of quirks since the leopard upgrade. hope they patch it soon.

try to isolate the issue to front row by playing it in dvd player. you may get an error message saying that dvd player cannot run because it is being used by another program in which case you have to go to applications/utilities/activity monitor.app find the front row process and control-click quit process or highlight click quit in the upper left hand corner of activity monitor then select quit. run the dvd in dvd player.app and see if it repeats the problem. if not then most likely it's a front row issue. if it happens again try another dvd player software. if you find that it happens on both dvd player.app and front row but not a third then it would most likely be be a dvd player.app issue in which you locate the plist file in library/preferences/ quit out both front row and dvd player.app to ensure it doesn't recreate a duplicate plist file then move the original to trash then open dvd player.app and try again. if all of this fails and it seems hopeless before going to a fresh install or archive and install I recommend update install. I have used this to fix what seemed to be broken and incurable apps on several macs now with success. but try the other stuff first to save you some time if possible. as of now all of my apps other than those non-compatible with Leopard are functioning just fine with the occasional bump in the road. Fixes are necessary as there are quite a few needed but I ran into the same thing with Tiger when it first came out and Tiger was a great OS.

  • Reinstalling Front Row and Photo Booth?

    Hi,
I had a hard drive failure a couple of months ago on my 20" G5 iMac. The Apple store replaced it in a day and reinstalled the OS. Thanks. Only after I had my entire computer set back up with all my apps, music, movies, etc., I realized that Front Row, and Photo Booth were not installed. How can I get them back on my machine without reinstalling the OS again? I tried Pacifier, but I don't know all of the different files and packages needed to intsall those two apps. Anyone know of a different solution?
    Thanks

Hey there ... Go search for a program called Pacifist. Its a shareware but it will let you do the job. I used it before to Install Mail which I accidently trashed it. It should absolutely work for Front Row too. Hope this will solve your problem. Sawadee Krub

  • TS3988 iCloud will not accept any passwords after upgrading OS. 2 days of trying every password I have ever used, AND changing Apple ID and iTunes ID, still nothing. Can't backup on iCloud anymore.

How can I use iCloud again after upgrading OS to Mountain Lion?  2 days of trying every password I have ever used, AND changing Apple ID and iTunes ID, still nothing. Can't backup on iCloud anymore.

Apple ID's can be used for anything, a single ID can be used for all your accounts (ie iCloud, iTunes, MAS, Apple community etc), ideally this would be the way forward. So far as iTunes goes you need to continue to use the same ID as you have always used or you will lose access to your previous purchases and your iTunes match subscription.
If you are using a second ID for iCloud, you can continue to do so or use the ID you use for iTunes, but if you choose the later you will need to move all your calendar, contact etc data to the account using the ID you use for iTunes.
When (if) you change which account you use you would delete the account on an iOS device and log back in with the correct details, on a mac you would sign out in the iCloud system preference pane.
