10.9.2 Server Caching no longer reports usage
I can tell it's working, but it doesn't say how much unless I stop the service. All settings are at their default. I have tried fixing permissions.
Hi Allen,
Thanks!
Yes, could be, however I wouldn't even know where to start looking. I checked Network prefs, and DNS's are correct and I also checked /etc/hosts and it's all good.
Everything worked normal just minutes before the update.
I keep investigating.

I just installed Lion on my mac and now Safari will not open. Keep getting this message: Safari quit unexpectedly, it gives me an optionto reopen or just click ok. I click reopen and it gives me the same message, with a long report of information. Ran disk permissions repair and still does the same. I can't even figure out how to copy the report into this question. Please help!

Acrobat Connect Pro LMS 7.5 server cache issue - displaying old content
Our Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro server is showing old Captivate-created content from about 4-6 weeks ago.
I loaded 35+ sets of Captivate 3 (SCORM 1.2, HTML, zipped) content onto our Acrobat Connect Pro LMS about 6 weeks ago.
I converted all training content from Captivate 3.0.1 to 4.0.1, 4 weeks ago by opening each file in Captivate 4 and following prompts to "Save As" new files with different file names.
I reloaded all content 4 weeks ago, and again 2 weeks ago.
I reloaded about half of all content again last week.
End User Acceptance testing performed this week showed that most of the courses are showing old content, ranging from 2-6 weeks old
Attempted fixes and workarounds:
Deleting content entirely and reloaded from scratch - this will not work long term, as we lose usage data each time we reload completely new files.
Contacted Adobe, provided times to track incidents of the issue. We reached Tier 2 - who told us it was our problem and that everything appeared to be working fine from their side.
New workaround - load new content and reattach course to new content. This presents the same long term issue as the first workaround, but enables us to retain older versions of content in the system, should we need to revert or report on it.
Gaining server side access is a bit challenging due to the hosting situation we have, so I am looking (ideally) for a solution that can be performed from the Administrator/Author Frontend. However, I want to learn the real cause of the problem, wherever it might reside, so that it can be properly corrected and avoided in the future. I am calling this a server cache issue, as it seems the server has somewhere retained unwanted old versions of content, preventing current content from being displayed to end users. Viewing content as an end user = see old content. Viewing content from the Content area (Author view) shows the current files, so I know they are on the server and are loading correctly, up to a point.
I am preparing all content for another round of loading/reloading due to other issues and updates, so republishing and reloading all 35+ files into the LMS is unavoidable at this point.
This issue is keeping our LMS from launching to several thousand users across the country, so any suggestions or helpful tips are much appreciated.I think I have isolated the source of this problem. It's the Pitstop Professional 9 plug in. I un-installed this, and everything opens quicker than greased lightning. I re-installed it and it's back to slowsville.
Unfortunately Pitstop is essential to my workflow.
Until recently I did my pre-press on a Mac G5 with Acrobat Pro 7 and Pitstop 6.5. I never had this problem with slow file opening. But it seems that the delays would occur when I used the plug-in with large complex files.. So it would open files as fast as you'd expect from an elderly machine. But starting to use Pitstop would result in a prolonged period of staring at a spinning beachball.
I wonder is there any way to stop the Pitstop plug-in from initializing until it is used? So the plug-in stays inert until you select the tool from from the menus. -
Crystal Reports 10 Enterprise Server Issue - Exporting Large Reports to PDF
Weu2019re implementing a Crystal Reports 10 Server for a customer but weu2019re having an issue with exporting large reports to PDF. The report size that starts to show this issue is roughly 300 pages with 20 records per page. We use the default Crystal ActiveX viewer.
Basically what happens is that the user will launch the report in the ActiveX viewer and the large report will take a while to load, as much as 3 to 4 minutes. The user may then wish to export to PDF. Once they attempt it with these large reports the viewer will basically hang and possibly be processing but will then time-out after roughly 5 minutes with this error:
u201CProxy Error
The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
The proxy server could not handle the request POST /thinqreports/THINQCrystalInterface.asp.
Reason: Error reading from remote server
IBM_HTTP_Server/6.1.0.9 Apache/2.0.47 (Unix) Server at lmsproxy.aurora.org Port 443u201D
We believe this error is coming from a server on our network. We have a proxy server between users and the Crystal Server that has a 5 minute time-out for connections. What we want to know is:
- Is there a way to speed up this export to PDF process?
- Should the Crystal Viewer be keeping an http connection alive to the Crystal Report Server while its doing this export process?
- If not, what port does Crystal Viewer use to communicate with the Crystal Report Server?
- Is there something we can set in Crystal to keep an http connection open?
- What is actually occurring during this export process?
Occasionally, we may get the above error when simply launching a report, not just attempting to export to PDF. We presume that is because loading the report into the Crystal Viewer from the Crystal Report Server is taking longer than 5 min.
Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks.
ScottScott,
As this is happening within Enteprise (and I am assuming the report does not time out in the Crystal Reports Designer) I would suggest posting this to the BusinessObjects Enterprise Administration
forum.
My limited Enterprise knowledge would be to suggest scheduling the report as PDF but I don't know if that is a viable option for you. -
We are running through a scenario where user1 is assigned to role1 and run a report and after couple minutes user1 is assigned to role2 and run the same report, in 2nd run i see an error in saw log, even though there is presentation server cache that was generated by user1 is previous run it s not shared to the same user if his roles is chnaged, Is this expected behaviour ? by the way we dont have any row level security jut object level

SrixThe variable DISABLE_CACHE_HIT is used to enable or disable Oracle BI Server result cache hits and not the presentation server cache. So the behavior seems to be correct. You can manage the presentation server cache settings in hte instanceconfig.xml file. Refer to the documentation below to understand the parameters you can configure: ( http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/bi.1111/e10541/querycaching.htm#i1218900 )

Save file from server cache in WebUI
Hello,
maybe someone here can help me with this obscure problem, that bothers me for quite some time now:
I want to save a pdf file from an internal table to the clients harddrive. Everything is implemented as in Thomas Jung's BLOG(forgot the link) on getting the table in the server cache and I do have my working download URL.
Now for the difficult stuff: I need to get the file to download correctly without freezing the application.
This are the ways I tried, but I always do end up with the loading icon in front of my page, not able to make any input. gv_download_url is my working URL, file is OK too when I open it on the hdd:
1.
<iframe src="<%= gv_download_url%>" width="0" height="0" id="PDFDownload"
name="PDFDownload" style="display:none">
</iframe>
2.
<p>
<object data="report.pdf" type="text/unicode" width="1" height="1">
<param name="src" value="<%= gv_download_url %>">
Ihr Browser kann das Objekt leider nicht anzeigen!
</object>
</p>
3.
<script type="text/javascript">
function pageLoaded(){
var myFrame = document.createElement("iframe");
var src = document.createAttribute("src");
var height = document.createAttribute("height");
var width = document.createAttribute("width");
src.nodeValue = "<%= gv_download_url%>";
height.nodeValue = "600";
width.nodeValue = "800";
myFrame.setAttributeNode(src);
myFrame.setAttributeNode(height);
myFrame.setAttributeNode(width);
var output = document.getElementById("Bereich");
output.appendChild(myFrame);
document.close();
</script>
<div id="Bereich"/>
<iframe src="about:blank" onload="pageLoaded()" height="0" width="0"/>
The only working way I know is this one:
<script langugage="Javascript">
var win = window.open("<%= gv_download_url%>");
</script>
But I always end up with an empty browser page open, whicht the user has to close manually.
<i>Short: URL is good, file data is good. How do I get the file download dialog without freezing WebUI?</i>
Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.Had the chance to test it in IC WebClient on CRM4.0 today. Everything works fine.
It seems to be really WebUI specific then. Suppose some missed JavaScript event, that triggers the "Please Wait"-Icon. -
Hi.
I am just trying to understand a few things about the BI server cache.
1. Is there a expiration time for the BI server cache meaning how long it retains the cache and when it has to be deleted. Is there any parameters that can be set to determine when the BI server cacahe expires.
2. When the BI server clears the cacahe is there an order in which it clears the cacahe meaning if it has 10 entries and reaches a limit how does does it choose which of the 10 entries to delete. How does it determine which is deleted.
Any documents pointing about the same with helpfull as well.
Thanks and RegardsHi,
Bi server cache:
The BI server retrieve the data from several data sources and give them to the presentation server. Then the BI server cache is a data set cache. It store the result of the SQL and don't ask again to the data source (database for instance).
In your I
My instanceConfig.xml under config :
!-- Parametrage pour le cache -->
<CacheMaxExpireMinutes>60</CacheMaxExpireMinutes>

Things to consider when removing from AD domain a SQL Server 2008 which includes Reporting Services
Do any one have a link to a list of things to consider when removing from AD domain a SQL Server 2008 which includes Reporting Services, Analysis Services and Integration Services?
I am taking from an Active Directory domain several servers with SQL 2008 and Reporting Services, Analysis Services and Integration Services. The server will stay on its own without association to any domain, the server will keep its IP address and
the server will not change names.
I have done some research and I got the basic steps including, removing the user accounts from the domain, changing the services accounts, changing jobs and databases from being owned by users from the domain. But...
Are there other things in Reporting Services, Analysis Services and Integration Services internal databases that have an association with the domain AND that will fail after no longer being in the domain?
I've heard of Reporting Services subscriptions failing when the domain user account is no longer there...Are there any other got ya's that any one has encountered?
Please advice.
Note: I am posting in this forum basically because of what I heard on Reporting Services, but it may be a better idea to post into a more broad forum such as SQL Server Migration section.
Thanks beforehand

Crystal Reports Server 8.5/Web Reporting Launch Kit/Crystal Enterprise 8.5
I have an old IIS 5.0 server which is serving up our company's Crystal 8.5 reports. The time has come to decommision that server, so I would like to migrate the IIS configuration to a new server. However, I have been unable to locate the media necessary to install the server side component on the new IIS server. The first question I have is, what is the product name I should be looking for? My research has been inconclusive, identifying Crystal Reports Server 8.5, Web Reporting Launch Kit, and Crystal Reports 8.5 Enterprise Edition as possible product names. My second question is, how can I go about obtaining replacement media for the product? Thanks in advance for your assistance.
Hi Peet,
The software might work on windows 2008 server. However, if there are any error messages or bugs found while using it will not be addressed as the product has not be tested on this platform. (As also the technical support for versions 9.2 and earlier has already ended, so Product Group no longer works on the bugs or supported platform for these products.)
A better idea would be to install the products CR 10 and higher on Operating Systems which have been tested. That ways you can be sure that the the product is supposed to work correctly on a particular setup.
Please do let us know your thoughts about it.

Image provided in server cache does not appear in Excel download
Hello WD Experts!
I have a Web Dynpo (ABAP) ALV table with material master data. One column contains the image of the product or a "sorry, no picture" image, if no specific material image exists.
The images are not available as MIME objects, hence I load the images from an external source and push them into the server cache using the method cl_http_server=>server_cache_upload( ... ). The lifetime for the cache is defined with 600. The "sorry, no picture" -image is a MIME object.
All works fine... except for the download to Excel. Only the "sorry, no picture" -image appears. The others gets replaced by a placeholder icon which looks similar to those frequently seen in emails or slow web pages.
Why don't the cached images get downloaded to Excel???
Best Regards
BodoI would imagine this is a limitation of the Excel converter functionality within the ALV. It is probably designed to only download images that come directly from the MIME repository. The logic between the two approaches would be very different. Images in the MIME repository can be read from the database using the MIME APIs. To read the images from the Server Cache, the ABAP program would have to make an HTTP request to the cache (using CL_HTTP_CLIENT). I'm guessing the convert logic simply doesn't do this.
The other option is - is your lifetime high enough? 600 seconds seems like it would be long enough - at least for a test - there is no guarentee that in a real application the user might not display the data for more than 10 minutes before downloading. Probably not your problem, but something you might still consider if you get this working.
My only suggestion is that you would have to create your own excel conversion instead of using the ALV one. -
Report (not Page) caching to improve report loading times
We are trying out Cystal Reports Server 2008 as a replacement for Crystal Reports CR XI R2 for an ASP.NET Web Application. Running some tests we found that the same report loaded from the server was far slower than loading the same report locally, using the CRXI SDK.
Being the Clone/Refresh strategy on the standalone SDK several times faster than the reportAppFactory.OpenDocument on the server platform, i think that the server is loading from scratch the report each time I execute the OpenDocument method. So what I am seraching for is, Is there a way to setup or tweak report caching on Crystal Server 2008? What I need is not page caching, but the whole report, which is used different databases each time it's executed (implying different data for each execution).
Some insight on the problem:
As I posted on a previous thread we are moving from CR XI due to a limit on the number of active instances suported by the SDK (74 instances). We reach this limit because of a workaround for improving report execution times, leaving instances of each report active, so the next execution just recicles the active instance, greatly reducing the overall process time. Therefor introducing Crystal Server is a setback on this module (due to it's actual performance).
Part of the problem resides on the complexity of the report. Using the standalone SDK the report takes several seconds to load from disk, and several seconds to execute. Regretably, we are not at liberty to change the reports' structure, so optimizing it is beyond posibility for now.
Thanks in advance,
GustavoHello Maggie,
>> How can I get an all-encoompassing CSV file of the main report (Page 2014)?
This might be possible using the advanced print server configuration, with BI Publisher, using the same technique that is being used to print master-details reports (which is a type of a multi-region report) - http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/configure_printing.html . The standard print server configuration only supports reports with a single region. If you have BIP in your organization, that’s great. Otherwise, CSV files don’t warrant it.
The only other option, I can see, is to create the CSV file manually, using the technique described in the following Blog entry, by Scott Spendolini - http://spendolini.blogspot.com/2006/04/custom-export-to-csv.html .

Reporting solution for a very long report
Hi All,
We have requirement to print a very long report ( about 150.000 pages folio size, something like account statement ). Database server is in remote location, connected to report's client via 64 kbps VPN.
What is the best solution for such requirement ?
Some thoughts are :
- using Crystal Report / Oracle Report , display the report on browser and print it
- Query the data from client side, save the data locally and create report from it
or is there any best solution for this ?
Thank you for any help,
xtantoCreate an output file on the location where the database is located, zip it, and transfer it to the client. 150000 pages is an awful lot, but usually mostly spaces.

Hello,
Inorder To "worm up the cache" of a report i've made a web template to it, changed its properties (via RSRT) to cache mode 4-persistent cache across each application server, persistent mode 3-tranparent table(BLOB) and generate the report. The report use a variable of calc year\month. I made a variant for the variable with the values 1.2005 - 12.2005. When i run the report with exactly the same values in the selection screen it runs very fast but when i put 1.2005 - 9.2005 it becomes very slow like i didnt worm up the cache...
Please Advice,
DavidI have to agree with Jeff LaRuso on this. It should work based on what you have described.
Although I'm sure you have it setup, let's backup a bit and verify that Global Cache is active on the Appl Servers the query is running on. Even though you are not caching to main memory, global cache still needs to be on. The query could be looking in the local session cache and finding the results which could explain why the idnetical query runs very fast.
When you say you have the variable marked as can be changed during navigation - that means you have an X in the box, correct?
You've verified thta the variable you are using in the query is the variable you have marked as changeable?
Any idea how big your global cache is? There is a setting somewhere that sets athe maximum size of a result thta can be cached as a percentage of the OLAP cache - I'm not certain if that would apply to a result set that is be cached persistently, but you never know.
What Version and Svc Pack are you on?

Hi Experts,
Where can i find out the properties of iviews like..
whether iview is using server side caching and server caching time out and iview server related properties.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
Regards,
KarthickHi Karthick,
The following retrieves the settings that determine:
whether the iView can be cahced on the client (browser)
whether the iView is cached on the server
how long the cache is valid for
Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, IPcdContext.PCD_INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY);
env.put(Constants.REQUESTED_ASPECT, PcmConstants.ASPECT_SEMANTICS);
env.put(Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, request.getUser());
InitialContext iCtx = null;
String iView = "portal_content/DanielContent/Corporate";
try {
iCtx = new InitialContext(env);
IiView myIview = (IiView)iCtx.lookup(iView);
response.write(myIview.getAttribute(IAttrPcmLaunch.ATTRIBUTE_ALLOW_BROWSER) + "<BR>");
response.write(myIview.getAttribute(IAttrPcmLaunch.ATTRIBUTE_CACHING_LEVEL) + "<BR>");
response.write(myIview.getAttribute(IAttrPcmLaunch.ATTRIBUTE_VALIDITY_PERIOD) + "<BR>");
catch(Exception e) {
response.write ("SYSTEM: error in binding"+ "<BR>" + e.getLocalizedMessage() + "<BR>"+ e.getMessage() + "<BR>"+ e.toString() + "<BR>");
Hope this helps.
