11.1.2 EPMA Essbase Dimension Alias

Dimension Alias contains the name that you want the dimension to have in the deployed app. I have seen this be true for Planning in both 11.1.1.3 and 11.1.2. However in 11.1.2 for an Essbase app, it looks like the name of the dimension in the app is pulling from the Dimension Name rather than Dimension Alias.
Has anyone else seen this? Is this a bug? Are there workarounds?

I have also seen this. I am seeing that the alias also works for HFM deployment but does not appear to control the actual name of the dimension for Essbase deployment. It does, however, set the alias on the top level of the dimension, which is not exactly what i want.

EPMA dimension alias

Hello,
I am working on EPM 11.1.2.3, and notice that I encountered an issue with EPMA Planning application.
When I create the dimension (for example, Product dimension), in the system property, there is a dimension alias field. However, when I put an alias, for example, Prod, in this field, and then deploy the EPMA Application. In Planning application, the dimension name becomes "Prod", and the alias is blank. I can not find any place in EPMA to set the dimension alias.
Btw, the dimension members alias works fine.
Any advice is very much appreciated.

1) Is it possible to dump the essbase dimensions into epma application?

Time Balance is set to Last for EPMA Essbase application in Essbase Outline

Hello Gurus,
Following is my scenario -
I have an EPMA Essbase applications that I have deployed from Workspace.
I have observed that even though the Time Balance property for members for the accounts dimension are set to Balance (as seen in Dimension Library) in EPMA, after I deploy the application the dimensions are tagged as TB Last in Essbase outline (as seen in EAS).
I am not aware of the functional part much, would really appreciate someone's help on this issue.

ESSBASE / PLANNING
TB Last = Balance
TB None = Flow
TB First = First
TB Avg = Average
In general, Income Statement accounts are "Flow", and Balance Sheet accounts are "Balance" (unless you're storing activity, and not balances). Statistical accounts are a mixed bag.

EPMA Essbase BSO cube with text measures

Hi everybody ,
I am using Oracle EPM 11.1.2.2
I am trying to deploy a essbase BSO cube with text measures from EPMA. In EPMA the text list has to be created as a smartlist dimension. I have even kept the Account member with data type as Text as the first level 0 member of the Account hierarchy.
When I am deploying am gettting no error . In EAS when I see the property of the member it shows as Text and also with the text list attached to it . But When I load data , the data also gets loaded and gives no error.
But when am viewing the data through Smart View or through HFR , the data is displayed as numbers and not as text.
Kindly help .

I can see that it is working with EPMA Essbase too, (nothing wrong there, with EPMA)
Is there any member with a member formula, where you are getting numbers.
If that is the case then text list will not work there. I remember raising a bug for this when text list was introduced for the first time. If that is the case, then you might have to wait till next release (11.1.2.3) where I heard for the first time solve order is coming to BSO (I could be wrong here.)

Maximum no of members in Essbase Dimension can support

Dear All,
I am using Essbase 11.1.2.2 (64-bit)
Number of dimensions used in my BSO Essbase cube is 9 (4-dense and 5 sparse).
I am having a Customer dimension (sparse) upto 7 levels.
The number of members in customer dimension is 98000.
After loading data in essbase BSO cube, while performing Ad hoc Analysis it throws the following error in Smartview,
"Request timed out contact your administrator to increase netretrycount and netretryinterval"
After making changes to below variables in registry and essbase.cfg files
NETDELAY 500
NETRETRYCOUNT 400
Registry settings
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]\
ReceiveTimeout=480000
KeepAliveTimeout=180000
ServerInfoTimeout=180000
and also with
ReceiveTimeout=900000
KeepAliveTimeout=300000
ServerInfoTimeout=300000
I am getting the following error
"Concurrent requests on the same session are not allowed. Wait till the previous request completes processing"
After i reduced the no of members considerably in Customer dimension, the issue got resolved.
My question is "Do we have any limitations in maximum no of members in a single dimension"
What is the maximum no of members a Essbase dimension can support ?

To answer your specific question, the limits are listed here: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E26232_01/doc.11122/esb_dbag/limits.html. According to that, BSO will handle 1,000,000 members.
My question would be what exactly you are doing when the error occurs. Does it happen when you attempt a drill to level zero for example? Or as soon as you retrieve an ad hoc sheet?

Retrieve members of particular tree within a particular ESSBASE dimension

Hi folks,
to explain it very simple :-)
1) I am in an Event Script (i.e. After Fileimport)
2) I would like write a script or create a logic, that retrieves base members of a particular tree within a particular ESSBASE dimension (target system is ESSBASE)
3) the result set of that retrievement (base member "ABC", base member "DEF", ... base member "XYZ") will be used for further logics
4) ideally: at the end a I am able to fill an VB dictionary or array with this result set
sounds easy, right?! :-)
Do you have an hints, how to realize that?

Extracting an Essbase Dimension in Outline Order

Has anyone been successful extracting an Essbase dimension in outline order and loading the outline in the same order to another application? Our requirement is to extract an Essbase dimension in outline order so the results can be loaded using ODI to a Planning application. The desired result is the dimension order from the original Essbase outline be the same as the dimension order in the Planning application. Any support or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We are using ODI 11.1.6. We successfully extracted the Essbase outline, but the order of the extract is incorrect. We've tried a few things including a Order by query, but are unable to get the outline in an order that will load to Planning and provide the same outline order as the original outline.

Antivirus uses epma's Dimension library port

Hello,
we just installed a new Antivirus and it seems like the port used by that software interferes with EPMA's Dimension and Application Libraries. These 2 time out wiyth 502 Proxy error when av is running. When i disable the av, both dim and app libraries open up.
Is it possible to change the port for both libraries? I went to the inetmgr, but did not find the location to change. Also, looked in the configuration, but did not see the port, i presume it's port 80 (default).
We are on 11.1.2.1, windows 2003 server. many thanks.

Another possibility is that the 502 (bad gateway) error is thrown as a security precaution because OHS is not configured to correctly proxy to the IIS server where epma is installed. You can get these errors if OHS is configured to proxy to SERVERA:80/hyperion-bpma-server and the server resolves to SERVERA.DOMAIN.COM or if you have the IP address instead of the hostname. The proxy setting can usually be found at the bottom of the httpd.conf file.

EPMA shared dimension Aliases

Hi,
We have a EPMA application where few of our dimensions are shared. Our flat file imports have loaded the aliases to one of the dimesnsions to the shared library and everything is in sync with the application. . But we are not able to see those aliases in data form and when we check the application in dimension library for aliases it shows this message"The Associated Dimension ID has not been set for this property."
Update: the aliases are not deployed in essbase for those members.

Was able to find the solution from oracle support link.
*Aliases Not Retained When Copying Dimension From Shared Library [ID 1435928.1]*
Use a shared Alias dimension, rather than using a local Alias. If the alias dimension is a shared rather than a local dimension then the dimension member aliases will be retained when you copy a dimension from the Shared Library to an Application Library.

Cannot buil Essbase Dimension With ODI

Hi all,
i've a problem with an ODI interface to load Metada into Essbase.
I must load the account dimension the table contains 4 information:
Parent
Child
Alias
Data Storage.
I need to load some elements as Dynamic Calc and so I've added the column Data Storage wich contains 'X' For Dynamic Calc elements and 'S' for the other bottom level elements that are Store, but these buttom level elements must be shared member in the same dimension under another hierachy.
The error that i've received from interface after the execution is:
unknown source (error -1) cannot build dimension.
Can somenone help me on this?

Cannot see all the essbase dimensions when performed reverse engg.using ODI

I performed the reverse engineering process for getting the dimensions from Essbase to the Model. First time the session has shown an error. When i right clicked the session in the operator and clicked on restart it has run succesfuly. But only the Accounts dimension got reversed. The rest of the dimensions are not seen in the Model. Please suggest

I have got to import my actuals data which is ther in Oracle database to Planning. As i was told that ODI is not compatible with EPMA, i cannot load data into Planning using ODI. As anyways the data is to be stored in essbase itself i want to use ODI to load the data into essbase. For metadata upload i am making use of Interface tables
My problem is
1.do i need to have a staging table for bringing my actuals data into it first and then connect it to Essbase?
2. If yes, what shud be the table format, like the columns?
3. And, the user wants this to be automated. And if there are any changes to the base tables(tables with actual data in oracle) they shud be reflected in the essbase aslo. So is there any lookup functionality in ODI?

Error While Redeploying 11.1.2.2 EPMA essbase cube

Hi ,
I have a EPMA esssbase application (11.1.2.2) and having problems while redeployment.
The suppose the Hierarchy of a dimension is like this during 1st deployment :
Dimension+
MemberA
MemberA_1(Store)
MemberA_2(Store)
MemberB
MemberB_1(Store)
MemberB_2(Store)
MemberB_3(Store)
( Dimension has two child MemberA and MemberB
MemberA is Parent of MemberA_1 and MemberA_2
MemberB is Parent of MemberB_1 and MemberB_2 and MemberB_3
This gets deployed fine . Now suppose the MemberB_3 gets is regrouped from MemberB to MemberA . In EPMA I do a "Cut" and "Paste As a Child" on MemberA and it is fine.
Now while validating it does not give me an error. The deployment completes successfully . When I see the outline , I see the following hierarchy -
Dimension+
MemberA
MemberA_1(Store)
MemberA_2(Store)
MemberB_3(Shared)
MemberB
MemberB_1(Store)
MemberB_2(Store)
MemberB_3(Store)
( Dimension has two child MemberA and MemberB
MemberA is Parent of MemberA_1 and MemberA_2 and MemberB_3 as a shared member
MemberB is Parent of MemberB_1 and MemberB_2 and MemberB_3 )
How do I avoid such a happening??
Am I doing anything wrong ??? Any process needs to be followed??? Kindly let me know your thoughts on this.
Currently I have advised the following workaround.
1) Edit from EAS Console - The steps that need to be followed are as follows:
a) Take a data backup of the whole application
b) Regroup the Dimension members as per the new requirement.
c) Deploy the essbase applications.
d) Log into EAS console , and change the Property of the Dimension Members which are shared to Stored and the same dimension members where the property is Stored , change it to shared and save the outline.
e) After the restructuring is complete , again open the outline in the EASconsole and delete the Dimension members which are tagged as shared and then save the outline.
Is this the only way to handle this issue or there is something else. ???
I also tried the following :
a)I deleted a member from EPMA and deployed the application. The deployment was successful . But when I opened the outline , the member(that I deleted from EPMA) was still there.
b) I added a new member to the EPMA and deployed the application. The deployment was successful. When I opened the outline , the member(That I added in EPMA ) was added properly in the outline.
When am adding a new member it gets added properly , but after that when I try changing the properties of that member or a move the member to a new parent or delete the member , EPMA is unable to update the Essbase Application.

Im not sure what you mean by this. Are you purposely trying to make a shared memeber? If so create a another memeber_c and add the shared in there.

How to set Essbase member alias as level label for hierarchy

Experts,
* I have imported my Essbase cube metadata and see my Essbase Member Aliases as Dimension Properties in the physical layer.
* when I view members of the levels in the physical layer I see them - as I expect - represented by the human readable alias names of the members.
* now drag&drop of the model into BMM layer - I notice the aliases (Dimension Properties in physical layer) are here represented as any other Logical Columns.
* drag&drop into the Presentation Layer and I can build my reports
Problem: in reports my hierarchies display using keys (from Essbase outline) and NOT the member aliases as would make sense.
When I drop the alias column next to the hierarchy column on the report, it does display the alias of the member in the current line - but how can I switch the hierarchy display itself to the alias???
