11g R2 for Linux

Hello -
I have a prod cluster being installed next month, and we are currently planning on going with 11.1.0.7. Would it be prudent to go into prod with 11g R2? Therefore, I won't have to upgrade the entire cluster stack at a later time.
Thanks,
mike

Depends on the time you have to test prior to being live.
If you have spent most of your testing time to this point on 11 I would implement with 11.1.0.7 and apply recommended patches.
11gR2 while should be pretty stable I would evaluate and test it prior tp putting in production.
Test, Test, Test before putting anything in production and if you have enough time to put 11gR2 through the paces prior to production then I would consider it otherwise I would stick with 11.1.0.7, however ensure you test it as well.
However if you really desire 11gR2 you can implement 11.1.0.7 and develop a migration plan that will allow you plenty of time for testing and evaluation.

  • Where to download Oracle 11G lib32 for Linux x86-64

    Hi,
can you tell me where to download 11G 32bit client for Linux 86-64? I need the 32 bit lib.
    Thanks

    Hello,
You should install the Client which match your platform.
If you have a Linux *32 bit* platform you should choose this Client:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/112010-linuxsoft-085393.html
If you have a Linux *64 bit* platform then, you should use the link I sent you on my previous post:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/112010-linx8664soft-100572.html
I'm not sure about Linux, but I know that on Unix, Oracle for 64 bit platform has 2 directories for the Library:
    $ORACLE_HOME/lib      --> 64 bit
$ORACLE_HOME/lib32    --> 32 bitI guess you may have the same components on Linux.
    Hope this help.
    Best regards,
    Jean-Valentin

  • Running OBIEE 11g services for Linux

    Hi everybody,
I would like to know the way to start OBIEE 11g services in a Linux (Red Hat) machine.
As far as I have seen in the web, there are four main steps to perform  in order to make OBIEE running:
    Run WebLogic.
    Run NodeManager.
    Run ManagedServer.
    Run OBI Components (using OPMN).
The problem I have is that in our installation there is no ManagedServer (bi_server1). Therefore I deduce that OBIEE was installed as simple version (actually I don’t know where I can see whether it is simple or enterprise version). So the question in my case is: how to run OBIEE services without ManagedServer? Otherwise, is there any way to upgrade from simple to enterprise version, or I should just uninstall and then install the enterprise version?
    Thanks in advance,
    Hibai.

Thanks for the reply Sasi. Now I know that we have a Simple Installation.
Anyway, I'm still not able to make OBIEE available. If I execute the commands you provided me, I see some errors in corresponding created files. However, running them without nohup option and without any other parameter (just the .sh file), WebLogic appears available and OBI components seem to be running as well:
    Processes in Instance: instance1
    ---------------------------------+--------------------+---------+---------
    ias-component                    | process-type       |     pid | status
    ---------------------------------+--------------------+---------+---------

    coreapplication_obips1           | OracleBIPresentat~ |   11315 | Alive
    coreapplication_obis1            | OracleBIServerCom~ |   11311 | Alive
Am I doing something wrong? In principle the steps you mentioned (which are also those ones that I was executing the previous days) have been executed properly, so I'm a bit confused.
    Thanks again,
    Hibai.

Yes there is. The Oracle documentation site can be found at:
    http://tahiti.oracle.com
Go to that link, and select your version (11g Release 1 or Release 2), and then select the "Installation" link.
From there you should find everything you need :)

  • Oracle 11g v11.1.0.7.0 for Linux RedHat?

    Hello,
can anybody tell me if there is a Oracle 11g v11.1.0.7.0 available for Linux RedHat, maybe a Pre-Version for Oracle-Customers/Partners?
A problem was reported to us pertaining to some privilege problems under Oracle 11g v11.1.0.7.0 / Linux, but i cannot find any version on:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/index.html
There is only a v11.1.0.7.0 for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and the last version for Linux is there v11.1.0.6.0.
    Thanks in advance.

    Macgator wrote:

The case with Windows 2008 exists because there was no way to install 11.1.0.6 on that platform, so the process of 'install and patch' is not possible. Therefore they needed to 'fix' the initial install for that specific plaftform and it is their policy to only release to the 'current patch set' (which was 11.1.0.7 at the time).
With Linux, you can 'make it work' with newer versions (eg: RH 5u4) by providing the appropriate compat libraries, therefore the original 'install and patch' process is still valid.
Making Linux 11.1.0.7 available would nullify their Support mechanisms.

  • Oracle 11g Express for Ubuntu Linux

Just like Oracle provided express edition for linux for 10g, will there be an easy to install express edition of 11g for linux? I mean via apt-get or debs or synaptic. Of course, synaptic being the easiest I have EVER seen oracle install on linux.
I want to try Linux as a developer, but installing 11g on linux the normal way is a pain. I do not want to spend days trying to install 11g on linux. I want to get busy doing something with 11g such as write queries and design databases.

    Yes, sigh.
If only people could write what they mean!My apologies for not being adept at the language. But we have both been wrangling with my lack of
language skills for years, so we should be used to it by now.
    >
Are you saying EE when you mean XE, perhaps? No. I meant EE using synaptic. Which does not exist. Which may explain why some people think the installation is difficult. The tools they have learned are not there and the fight to find or learn the alternatives is not pleasant.
And even the simple stuff may seem. difficult. Some people, including modern developers with IDEs, are very concerned about the difficulties of editing in Linux. In my Oracle on Linux courses, I see grown men near tears when I tell them to edit sysctl.conf ... you should see the visible relief when I describe gedit or kate.
You have been doing the baseline install for years - Back in the Red Hat 9 days, I'd been handing out the HJR Linux install (with your written permission) in my classes for years. So I expect us to get it done in a short time. Cookie-cutter boot, thru install Linux & Oracle, to tnsping shouldn't take us (you and me) more than 1.5-2.5 hours. (Especially if all we want is a basic data dump.)
But ... reading the docco, translating the steps into a manual sequence, and finding and running the synaptic equivalent to the documented rpm commands - aka a synaptic install - can take days. Heck, just reading the docco to get it straight under a certified distro can take days.
After that, OUI is simple, and (if the pre-reqs are clean) nearly fool-proof.
BTW - why do we have to fight with the pre-reqs? Why can there not be more variants of the SUSE-supplied orarun.rpm to do all that manual stuff?

    Hi
We have a requirement to create a shell script inorder to run OBIEE 11G services in Linux OS. It would be very helpful and greatly appreciated if any pointer(s)/documentation on this is provided.
    Thanks

we had run the scripts using nohup "nohup ./startWeblogicServer.sh &" and reopened putty to run other nodemanager and opmnctl scripts, now everything has started and working fine.
    Thanks all..

    hi,
I have installed VM WARE on my laptop now want to download linux ISO and Oracle ISO. Red Hat, Centos and Oracle Enterprise Linux are almost identical. The major differences are:
    - Red Hat and Oracle Enterprise Linux are officially supported by Oracle to be used under Oracle products;
    - CentOS is NOT officially supported
    - the newer Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) includes an 'oracle-validate' rpm to reduce configuration guessing
Each Distro has it's purpose. I use SUSE and OpenSUSE for my office. And for general servers I use RedHat (when I need commercial support) and CentOS. I fully support CentOS and the CentOS community effort.
However, for the past year I have ONLY used Oracle Enteprise Linux under Oracle product. It is free, it is officially supported, if I need commercial support I can get it, and it has the Oracle Validated RPM to minimize my config effort. http://edelivery.oracle.com
So, as compared to the other respondent - I encourage using OEL and NOT CentOS.

  • JDeveloper 11g for linux.

I saw packages for windows and mac, the Base Install is for linux?

    it's ...i don't know... a rendering problem...
e.g:when I do a right click on a webservice( Application navigator) it displays the contextual menu until the 3rd separator than the rest.Same thing on web.xml displays untill 1st separator...then the rest. There are also some delays in switching tabs(about 0.5-0.25 sec)
In rest...I like the annotation styles of ws...but I woder my self is there a way to inspect the wsdl except downloading it from oc4j...perhaps you want to edit it...
    best regards...

Please let me know how to fix this issue.
    Thanks
    Jay.

    Hi,
Have you try to increase MaxPermSize, it may occure memory issue.
change the Middleware/ORACLE_BI1/oui/oraparam.ini and fine it like below
JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=" -mx512m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m" then try to change it
    JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=" -mx2048m -XX:MaxPermSize=2048m"
(i.e:It will increase the numbers for allocating more memory) then save it and then try to run config.bat (software only/enterprise) method and configure it.
    Thanks
    Deva
