1st Gen ipod touch no longer keeping time

As the title says my 1st gen ipod touch no longer keeps time when I let it go completely flat. It keeps resetting itself back to the default time and date. Started happening in the last 6 months. I'm running IOS 2.2.1 never bothered updating to IOS 3 because of a known issue with the volume bar disappearing which I don't think had even been fixed. It hasn't been synced with the itunes for 2-3 years. The laptop with the itunes library for this device hasn't worked for a couple of years and haven't sync my ipod to a new computer due to some of the apps I used and some of my song/video purchases no longer being available and I don't want to risk losing those purchases if doing a factory resets not going to make a difference. Battery life for my ipod is still pretty good, get 3 weeks out of it when I leave it in standby mode using it for an alarm clock and about a week listening to music going to and from work only a few hours playing games or videos but that was never to great to begin with. My Ipod touch does have a cracked screen, but it's been cracked for the last 5 years. No other problems. Is else have this issue? Will factory reset make a difference or is it just something to put up with till my ipod touch dies?

It sounds like the battery is really dying and does not have enough voltage to maintain the time when the iPod shuts off due to low battery.
You can try restoring to factory settings/new iPod and see if that helps.

  • My 5th Gen iPod touch does not keep time and the bluetooth will not turn on. Full restore did not fix.

Recently my 5th generation iPod Touch stopped keeping time. As long as the screen stays on, it will stay accurate, but once it "sleeps" the time reverts to the last accurate time it had. If I go to Settings>General>Date&Time> and turn Set Automatically off and on, it will catch up, but just for as long as the screen stays on. Not too friendly for battery life that way. Also, maybe unrelated, the Bluetooth function will not turn on. When I try to turn it on, I just get a constant spinning wheel.
I have tried everything from a simple restart to a full device wipe back to factory default. No change. I took it in to the Genius bar this afternoon. They tried a diagnostic and another wipe. Then they said they didn't know and I could pay $150 to replace it. Not a bad deal, but not what I wanted to hear.
    Any ideas?

    All I can suggest is
Try DFU mode and then restore again to factory settings/new iPod

  • 1st Gen iPod touch Keeps Having to Be Re-Registered with iTunes

My 1st Gen. iPod touch works very well, with one exception. Every few weeks I'll turn it on and I'll get the picture of the cable and the iTunes icon - which is what you get the first time you use your iPod touch and means it needs to be registered with iTunes. This will happen both if I plug it in to my charger and when I just simply turn it on with the power button. I'll then take the touch to my computer and use my syn cable and plug it in. When the iTunes window comes up, on the left column it shows my touch, but the name I'd given it has gone back to the default name. I'll rename it again, but again within a week or two the same thing happens again. I'm stumped. I'm using an iMac running Leopard 10.5.6 and a white MacBook, also with 10.5.6. All my software on the touch, MacBook and iMac are up to date. I have very few apps on my touch and lots of room left on it to store stuff. Can anyone help? Thanks.

    Hi Brenda,
That screen, with the iTunes icon and the USB cable, means the iPod is in recovery mode.
This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 provides more information about the mode and how-to use it to restore your iPhone or iPod touch.
Are you using any 3rd-party accessories with the iPod touch?
Does the accessory have the Made for iPod logo?
Try restoring the iPod again, setting it up as a new iPod, and testing it without any 3rd-party accessories.
If the issue persists, the iPod may need hardware repair. Just make a reservation to have a Genius take a look at it or call AppleCare.

  • Installing old apps on 1st gen iPod touch

    Hi all!!
Ok I have a 1st Gen iPod touch and I have 2 apps that were updated from iTunes but when updating it
said that it couldn't update due to old system but the old apps stayed on my iPod but when I did a restore
the apps are not on my iPod and it say that the apps are no longer compatible with my old iPod. I have checked
in my Time Machine and I have the old apps vers that USED to work with my touch but when I did a restore via
Time Machine it doesn't work (that way). Is there a way that I can restore those two apps with Time Machine so that
I can make it work again for my touch??? They are still on my iTunes but under the new vers that will only
work under IOS 4+. Any help would be welcomed!!!
    Serge

How can I delete the new ones?? Even if I do, the iTunes site doesn't have the OLD vers that would still work with
my iPod I do have'em on my TimeMachine but don't know how to restore them to make it work. I wish that iTunes
would keep all generation of apps so if you need to restore you'll be able to get the old app back. I can't even use
ebay app no more. So sad. Any way thanks for the help lllaass!!!

  • Can't sync apps to 1st gen ipod touch

I have a 1st gen ipod touch and can no longer sync apps. My itunes says that the software is not compatible even though i have the latest updates. Is this a lost cause or can i fix it.
Apps I have previously had will no longer sync either
    HELP

I too have a 1st gen and running 3.1.3. I've tried to download various apps and get the banner warning. What really is disappointing is the fact 2nd gen and up is supported. There really wasn't much of a time difference in the release dates so this is another example of apple FORCING it''s bread and butter to keep shelling out cash. I've resorted to just using this thing for what it is. A MP3 player. When it dies, I'll start using my Android phone for music. My 4 teens have all been told, make your ipod last as I'm not buying a replacement. Those who have drunk their kookaid I hope suffer a hardware failure when it matters most. Shame on you apple for treating your customers this way. . I've had enough and I hope you lose more market share as time goes on to a more open and as far as I'm concerned, a better produce, Android. Good night.

  • Getting App off 1st Gen iPod touch to use on iPhone

I have a 1st gen ipod touch with an app that is no longer available in the app store (the original EA SimCity).  I want to save it to my pc so i can put it on my iphone, but when I backup or sync my ipod touch, it doesn't backup the game. Any way I can get the game off the ipod onto my pc or into itunes?   I want to play the game i paid 5 bucks for, but EA cleverly obsoleted the game and re-released it under the same title with one tweak.

Transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computerIt is an all or no transfer. Then sync the app to the iPhone.
If you also want the game status restored:
    - How to transfer game saves between iOS devices, without iTunes, and without jailbreaking | TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog
    - Or backup the iPod to iTunes and restore the iPhone from that backup. All the apps have to be in the iTunes library since the backup does not included synced media like apps and music.

  • I just reset my 1st Gen iPod touch to factory settings.

I just wiped my 1st gen iPod touch (my son gave it back after he got a new one for X-mas).  I now have the  "connect to iTunes" icon when I turn it on.  Recovery mode is what it is called I think.  When I plug it into my iMac running Lion, it isn't recognized at all.  I can't ge the computer to see it so I can restore it.
    Any thoughts????

    That happens some times
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • 1st gen iPod touch not showing in iTunes 10.6

    Hi
though it was about time to update my music on my 1st gen iPod Touch, however, when i connected it to iTunes it does not show up.
    Is anyone able to assist?
I have tried hard resets and it doesn't work.
Have Apple stopped supporting the 1st gen Touch?
    Regards

I am having a similar issue. I have a 1st-generation iPod touch, and a MacBook running Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.3) and iTunes 9.1.1. It's a bit old now and the WiFi isn't very good, but my iPod touch still works perfectly, except that it doesn't show up in iTunes, which I discovered yesterday when I tried to sync some new music. I got my iTouch G1 the first week they came out and it worked perfectly with my iBook G4 running Tiger, and also worked perfectly with my new MacBook running Leopard which replaced the iBook when its logic board bit the dust. I recently updated to Snow Leopard (about a month ago now), and now my iTouch doesn't show up in my iTunes sidebar, but a volume shows up in Disk Utility that could only be this iPod and things do happen when I plug in the iPod (the first time I connected it since I added some Snow to my Leopard, iPhoto opened and prompted a download of a screenshot I'd taken with the iPod). I'm mostly writing this right now because the support page pertinent to this issue is down due to some sort of Apple web maintenance and I'm tired of getting the same error message. I actually have everything on my Mac backed up, and when I installed Snow Leopard I just did a basic installation but have been thinking of going back and doing a clean wipe and install and then getting the iTunes and iPhoto libraries et cetera off of my external HD. Would this fix my problem? I figure that since my iPod touch's files and system have been constant throughout this, it must be some issue with Snow Leopard, however before I wipe everything and have to set my system up again from scratch, I would like to know if this problem would be fixed by doing that or if there is some problem inherent in Snow Leopard that needs to be manually fixed.

  • 1st gen ipod touch won't restore.

I have a 1st gen ipod touch that I've been having minor troubles with (trouble syncing from time to time, album artwork is mixed up etc) and decided to do a restore. I followed the directions to the letter, and everything was working fine until after my ipod was wiped clean. Now the ipod shows up in itunes, but I can't access anything that I normally can. the ONLY option I have is to eject it. I'm really worried that I'll never be able to use my ipod again, which is kind of a big deal at this point. Help?
-- I am running OS10.5.8 on my macbook.

I'm starting to wonder if there's not some sort of issue brewing here. I had roughly the same thing happen to my 1G iTouch, though it happened gradually -- first, it wouldn't recognize the third-party car chargers I own, but worked okay on the computer. Then, after a couple months, iTunes stopped recognizing it. I had to do a complete restore to get it functioning again, and I had to restart/reboot the computer and the iPod, with nothing connected to the computer but the iPod, the keyboard and the mouse, and a totally clean re-download/install of iTouch firmware 3.1.2.
Things worked fine for about a month -- until last night. I followed every troubleshooting step: reinstalling Apple Mobile Device Service, repairing permissions, powering down completely for 60 seconds, and disconnecting everything from USB except the mouse, keyboard, and iPod. It took about 9 tries before it finally went through with a restore.
I unplugged it, used it for about an hour or so today, then tried to plug it back into the computer. It recognized it at first, but then flashed back and forth between the battery screen (showing that it's connected/syncing) and the regular wakeup screen (with the unlock slider), giving me multiple "failed connect" messages in iTunes. I'm about to start the whole rigmarole again, it looks like.
Is anyone else having these kinds of repeated problems?

  • Frozen 1st gen ipod touch

My 1st gen. ipod touch is completely frozen.  It is not even recognized when I connect it to itunes.  I have tried restarting it several times, but that hasn't helped.  When it restarts, it shows the red flash for battery charge, then goes to apple screen, then it stays stuck on apple screen - with frozen "timer".  Any suggestions on how to get this back???

  • Can I use my 1st gen ipod touch as hard drive

I have a 32 gb 1st gen ipod touch and I want to use some of it to store items/files that have nothing to do with itunes. How can I get this ipod as hd/itune device?

There is no hard drive in an iPod Touch. But you can check out How to use iPhone/iPod Touch as Flash Drive on Mac.

  • ANY radio app for 1st gen iPod touch?? Even with Wifi!?

Firstly, I know the 1st gen ipod touch does not have a radio receiver..this is not my problem.
I've been looking for an app that I can listen to the radio on..even through wifi...but am not finding any that will work with the 1st gen. For example, I download TuneIn radio which I have on my itunes, blackberry, and tablet...but it is only compatible with newer generations of the ipod touch. I am on version 3.1.3 which I believe is the most up-to-date.
In short, I'm absolutely fine to use wifi to listen to the radio, but simply can't find an app (ideally a free one) that will even let me sync the app from my itunes to the ipod.
    Suggestions would be very welcome!

Try my web app. I have over 100 stations of all genres. Just enter the following URL in Safari and tap on the orange music icon on top right. Also, you can add a Home screen app icon for easy future access.

  • Twitter App. for 1st Gen. iPod Touch

I recently was having problems with the Twitter App. on my 1st Gen. iPod Touch and so decided to delete the app and re-download it again, like I had done a week earlier. During the download an error message popped up stating that I need ios 6 or later to download the app. Apple had updated the Twitter App on March 10th and I tried re-downloading March 14th, however a week earlier I was offered the opportunity to download an earlier version of Twitter. I am currently only able to use Twitter via Safari. Does anyone out there have a solution to get the official Twitter App. (And no "Buy a newer iPod stuff"!)
    Cheers
ps IF ANYONE FROM APPLE MANAGES TO SEE THIS CAN YOU PLEASE OFFER THE OPPRTUNITY TO DOWNLOAD LATER VERSIONS OF APPS FOR 1ST GEN IPOD TOUCH

Starting when iOS 7 was released, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
Apple did not say why did not allow this option for iOS 3.1.3/1G iPod.
Apple does not monitor these forums. To make a suggestion to Apple:

  • I have an 1st gen Ipod touch that runs 3.1.3 IOS.

1st Gen Ipod touch 3.1.3 ios. No apps will work on this ios is there anything I can do to fix this? Thanks

There are only a few apps currently available for the 1G iPod. There is no way to search for only compatible apps. You just have to look at the Requirements section of apps that interest you.
The only real solution is to purchase a newer model iPod
