1st generation apple tv will no longer sync

We have two1st generation apple TVs - one syncs thru Wifi and one is wired.  While both continue to be seen in iTunes neither will sync.  Ipads and Ipods continue to sync properly.  I reset one to factory setting and reinstalled but issue continues.  I am using the most current version of iTunes and I don't believe any other settings have changed. Any advice would be appreciated.

if one was factory reset use the settings on the appletv to make sure it using the latests firmware as factory reset return it to what it came with
and when I had issues with my appletv not wanting to sync then I go to the settings and unpair it from whatever computer it thinks it's set to sync  with and then add the computer again
think I don so 2 times for my appletv
it always fixed it but it does result in a full sync which takes a bit

  • Apple TV will no longer Sync and YouTube Not Working

Recently my Apple TV (160GB version) has stopped syncing with my copy of iTunes.
Previously it synced fine and when ever I lunched iTunes it would show up under my devices. But now it behaves rather strangely. Every now and again my Apple TV shows up in iTunes (E.g. every few days for about 2 minutes when previously it was always there) and when I try and press the sync button it says it is syncing but nothing ever syncs.
Does anyone know what the problem might be?
Both my MacBook and Apple TV are connected wirelessly to an Apple AirPort Extreme (both are within range and show up as connected to the base station).
I have checked and I have iTunes music sharing allowed on my MacBook.
I also just noticed that my Apple TV no longer connects to You Tube (can't see any videos if I am signed in or not). Although in AirPort utility it says my Apple TV is connected to the base station (signal = -79, Noise = -92, Rate = 1) and my Apple TV says it's connected to the network.
I tried to in my Apple TV into my MacBook via a Ethernet cable (went into the sharing option in System Pref and started "Sharing your AirPort connection" to computers using "Built-in Ethernet") and it synced my content from iTunes but I still am unable to access You Tube. For example I go into the You Tube menu and click "Most Viewed" and it takes about 2-3 minutes to load the page before an error message is displayed.
I also noticed I can't watch any film trailers (although I only attempted to do this for the first time today), the names of the films come up with the description but the film image on the left and the actual trailer do not load. Do I need to open up extra ports on my MacBook to get this all to work?
Sorry if all that was very wordy but I love my little Apple TV as it lets me watch Podcasts and You Tube videos on my TV. Any help on getting this fixed would be really useful.

Welcome to the  discussion forums.
Try going to synching in the sources menu on your tv and selecting 'change itunes library', when it gives you the passcode check itunes to see if the tv is showing up as a new device, if so try entering the pass code. It may be that your tv is seeing itunes as a different library because of a recent upgrade.

  • My apple tv will no longer sync movies

I have rented and purchased new content from the iTunes store and when I try and sync them to my apple tv I get an error that they are not supported formats. I have reset the apple tv and computer... It will sync audio and photos... but any tv shows or movies that I try to sync result in that error.
I have been able to purchase and download content directly to the Apple tv (causing me to rent the same movie on both the computer and TV and be charged twice). On my apple TV the menu under TV Shows only now has the option to watch My TV Shows so I assume that there is some relation between this and my problem.
    Any Ideas?

I have exactly the same issue, I can see the content that I have purchased and when I start a show or film I get error message after a few seconds. Apparantly it is only for the movies and shows, since I can see and hear my music, clues anyone?

  • Old apple tv can no longer sync back to computer

I have an old apple tv that I would sync movies and tv shows for my kids. This way if the network wasn't working properly my wife could still put on a show. Recently all of the shows in my tv shows or my movies is gone and i now need to go to my shared movies or my shared tv shows. Also, anything purchased on that apple tv will no longer sync back to the main computer.
Is this due to the new apple tv software? It is very slow to download some movies over the network which is why the syncing makes the most sense.
    Please help.

If you are saying that the iPad is looking for a different computer name, that indicates to me that you are trying to sync over WiFi and there is a computer listed in the settings that is not your own computer. If that's the case, that leads me to believe that you (or somebody else) synced your iPad with another computer.
Any chance that's what happened or am I misreading your vague statement? - "It appears to be looking for a different computer name..."

  • Another major Apple mistake - Outlook will no longer sync to iPhone 4

I have had my iPhone4 for almost a month now and it has os4.0.1 firmware. And my PC is running XP Pro with all updates as well as iTunes 9.2.1.5.
After missing several important meetings, I realized that changes made on either the iP4 or PC were NOT being synced. (And I thought it was just me forgetting to put stuff in Outlook or on the iP4.)
This has really put back my fear factor in Apple's ability to understand and support the business community properly. They had this problem back on iP3g with v2.2 firmware, but it was fixed. I began to rely on sync 100% for everything again.
Now, it's all gone down the tubes again. I've noticed the following:
    1) any changes made to Outlook on PC or iP4 are not being synced on the other
    2) many pictures on existing contacts have dissappeared on the iP4
    3) pictures added back on iP4 frequently dissappear again after a sync
    4) adding or changing contact pictures on PC are not synced to iP4 and existing picture is removed
I don't know if it's iTunes or the iPhone software. BTW, I installed os4.0.1 on my old iPhone3g and tried to sync. Guess what? It doesn't work.
However, I remember really giving the new iP4 (os4.0) a pretty good going over when I got it to make sure that things synced properly and I felt confident that nothing was broken. But since then I've updated to os4.0.1 and at least one update of iTunes since then.

Yes, I did read the title.
The sync was working between Outlook and the iPhone at one point.
The Apple supplied SW (OS and iTunes) changed, and the sync stopped working. If Outlook had changed, that probably would be where the fault lies, but because it’s the Apple supplied SW that changed and the sync stopped working, that’s the most likely cause of the problem.
    Simple troubleshooting logic.
Notice that the OP did a further testing where he/she rolled back to an older version of iTunes, and the sync works with that version. A later version of the same (Apple) SW does not.
Fair enough. But at the same time, I have the lastest itunes version and the lastest ip4 OS and I am syncing my outlook with no problems. Maybe the OP's computer downloaded the lastest version of itunes incorrectly. Granted, I am not an expect in all these hardware/software technologies. I am just saying that the problems he/she was having could lie elsewhere and not with Apple.
Yeah, it's certainly possible, but given the situation, and the testing that the OP has done, not likely.
I just want Apple’s products to work. And I really don’t understand why some people can’t seem to deal with the fact that Outlook synchronisation is crucial.
Everybody want what they purchase to work. I could see their frustration when something does not work. People should come into these forums asking for help. It does not do any good to whine or play the blaming game. Like John said, we are getting tired of people complaining and whining about their products not working. If they have a problem, post the problem and we will try to help.
And, yes, I agree, people do come on here and complain, sometimes quite rationally, sometimes not. It's better to just state the problem and ask for help. The OP sort of did that, but the title was a bit inflammatory. I'd have probably titled it "iPhone 4 will no longer sync to Outlook", and left off the editorial at the beginning.
There's a level of frustration that can creep in here, of course. When something works fine for a long time and then suddenly stops working, (and especially if you miss business calls because of that problem) - it can push people over the edge.
I hope that this synchronisation issue does get fixed. I'd love to log in to the board one day and see that people have downloaded a new update (either to iOS or iTunes) and that they can now reliably connect between Outlook and their phone.

  • HT1351 My fifth generation nano will no longer sync my address book from my Mac. It gives me an error message that "You have no contacts" and asks me if I want to create some.  My address book is full of contacts. Sync works for everything else.

My 5th generation nano will no longer Sync my address book from my Mac.  It gives me a message that I have no "Contacts", and asks if I want to create some.  My address book is full of contacts, but for some reason it thinks it is empty.  All the other sync operations work fine including iCal.  My Mac is running OS X 10.7.4.

It sounds like all of your contacts on your Mac running Lion are actually stored up in iCloud.
Several users running Mac OS X Lion and now ML (and iCloud) have no longer been able to "sync" contacts over to their older iPods models.
A work around is to export all of your contacts out of Address Book as vCards and them copy these vCards into your iPod's Contacts folder.  You'll need to have the Enable Disk Use option ticked from under the iPod's Summary tab in order to browse out to the iPod's Contacts folder via the Finder.
Using your iPod as a storage drive
That's the only "solution" I have been able to use to get contacts to sync/appear on my 5G iPod Video.

  • I had a new hard drive replaced in my imac. Now my 1st generation apple TV does not appear under devices in itunes. How do I get my apple tv to connect to my computer? My OS is 10.6.8

I had a new hard drive replaced in my imac. Now my 1st generation apple TV does not appear under devices in itunes. How do I get my apple tv to connect to my computer? My OS is 10.6.8

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Navigate to Settings > Computers > Your Library on the Apple TV, you may be told you will lose all synced content, but you can't doing anything abouty this, you won't lose any purchased content that has yet to be transferred. Then select Settings > Computers > Connect To iTunes, note the passcode that appears on screen, click on the device in iTunes and enter the passcode when prompted.

  • TS3354 I downloaded a HD and SD version of the movie and can't play it on my 1st generation Apple TV

I bought a HD version of a movie and it won't play on my 720 p TV or WIndows PC, then I went back and re-downloaded the SD version of the movie. Now the SD version will play on my Windows computer, but it still won't play on my 1st generation Apple TV.

AppleTV1 can sync with 1 iTunes library - the top one listed in Settings>Computers.
Other libraries are 'shared' or streaming only, and appear under the top entry.
You basically need to remove the current iTunes library from AppleTV - select it and remove it - then adfd it again as the to 'sync' compuetr entry.
NOTE - changing the sync liubrary wipes AppleTV of data though apparently it does not delete items not yet reverse synced to iTunes.  If it buggers up contact iTunes store support.

  • Nano 8GB will no longer sync w/ iPhoto

After a week of flawless use, my Nano 2nd Generation will no longer sync with iPhoto. I get a "cannot update this iPod....error-50" message. As soon as I un-check the Sync photos button it works fine. I haven't changed any settings on the iPod or iTunes nor have I install or downloaded any new software for the computer since the last time it worked. I did install the latest security update from Apple this morning after which syncing to iPhoto no longer works.

If you have ADC access you can find an unconfirmed bug report similar to this in RadarWeb. Try removing any non-ascii (accented) characters from your album & photo names.

  • My 2nd gen IPOD touch will no longer sync with itunes.

My 2nd gen IPOD touch will no longer sync with itunes.  it tells me it cannot read the contents of the ipod then it says the ipod software server cannot be contacted.  Any suggestions?

    Update Server
    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
    Public DNS — Google Developers
    OpenDNS IP Addresses
    - Try on another computer/network
    - Wait if it is an Apple problem
    Then try restoring again.

    Hello Amoebi,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Do you sync any other iPods with your iTunes library? I ask, because usually this error is only seen on iPod Touches and iPhones. Here is the Apple support document related to it.

Are you using the original cable that came with Nano and not your iPhone's cable?  Have you worked through the troubleshooting in this Apple support document?

  • HT1551 I ordered a rental movie on my computer and want to watch it on my 1st generation apple TV and it is not showing up there...any suggestions?

I ordered a rental movie on my computer and want to watch it on my 1st generation apple TV and it is not showing up there...any suggestions?

I had same problem last night with a movie rental not showing up under the 'Rented' tab in iTunes/Movies on my iMac: as I had no other rentals, there was no 'Rented' tab at all.
In iTunes 11, the Downloads icon only appears next to the Search bar while there is an active download. Once any  downloads are finished, the icon disappears.  I had no icon so I had to assume the downloading had finished (in the previous UI you could check download progress even after they had finished).
My movie rental did, however, show up under 'Rented Movies' under the 'Movies' tab in iTunes/Devices/(select any i/device) so I knew it was somewhere in my iTunes.  Yet, we couldn't access it via Apple TV.
I fiddle around for a bit, restarting iTunes, restarting the iMac, to no avail.  Then I did a little housekeeping and moved a different movie I'd imported awhile ago, from the 'Home Videos' tab under iTunes/Movies.  Under File/Get Info, the 'Media Kind' was incorrectly set to 'Home Video' so I changed it to 'Movie'.  Thus the file was moved over into the Movies tab.  Hey Presto!  The Rented tab suddenly showed up, and there was my rented movie!
This is the second time a movie rental did not show up after downloading.  Unfortunately my husband initiated the download so we figured he must've messed up somehow as he's not as familiar with iTunes as me.  Hence we opted to download the movie under a different iTunes account, which worked the second time with no problem.  Needless to say the invoice for the original download had no problem in finding us, hence we were effectively being charged twice for the same movie!  We have to contact apple support (such a hassle) but hopefully they will understand the issue (that's the difficult bit) and they are usually good at refunding when they finally accept the customer is genuine in their claim.
In case anyone is tempted to critique my method, we download rentals through iTune on our computer as we had too many problems trying to rent via Apple TV.  Often the movie was not available to watch for many hours after it was rented, even though we'd start 'download' halfway through the day and sit down at night to watch it!  We have also had problems with movies that kept stopping during viewing because it wasn't streaming fast enough.  We'd give some time and come back to viewing, only to encounter the same.  One time we gave gave up and tried again the next evening, only to find the movie expired.  There is meant to be 48 hours after you've started viewing to resume watching a movie.  Apple's only response to this was to advise we needed a broadband internet connection to stream the movie - this was despite me already telling them we have broadband.
Anyway, I hope this helps anyone experiencing similar issues with movie downloads.

  • Have a 1st generation Apple TV, which is not showing as a device in iTunes. Had no problems with Apple TV until I changed from a Windows PC to an iMac. I have changed my IP address, sub mask address and router address in the Apple TV, Can anyone help?

I have a 1st generation apple TV, which was working perfectly until I changed from a Windows PC to a Imac. The Apple TV will not show in Itunes. I have changed the IP address, sub mask  and Router IP address. Since changing I have switched everything of and on again. Can anyone help?

I have a new router and computer. I have just remembered that just before my old PC died on me, I transferred my iTunes library to a hard drive. I can't remember exactly just how I got my library back, but there are definately things in my library now that were in my library on my old PC! Hope this makes sense. What do you mean by same location? Do you mean in the same place in the house?
Another difference I have just thought of was my old router was connected directly to the computer bu I have not been able to do this with Sky as my PC is not near a phone socket! Will this make a difference?
