2.0 upgrade/operation woes

I installed the 2.0 upgrade to my 16 GB Touch last night, but not without difficulty and continuing problems.
The attempted backup did not work, as some have noted. (My particular issue was an error -43.) I finally gave up and let it upgrade anyway, thus losing all my safari and youtube bookmarks, wifi settings, and probably other stuff I haven't discovered yet. I tried multiple times after rebooting, disconnecting, powering on, restarting iTunes in various combinations. Even tried a different computer with access to the same library. Many attempts, no success.
After restoring the library to the ipod, I noticed several things:
1. The artwork was not downloaded for each song, even though it was all there before, and my library is the same, and the artwork shows up in iTunes for each and every song, it only appears in coverflow and song views for some. (There is a mix of mp3, m4a, and m4p files.)
2. When using a finger to edit the cursor postion in a search, (in YouTube search, for example), the usual bubble appears with the cursor, but the text in the bubble quickly moves off of the top of the screen so that you can't find the cursor position.) I don't remember seeing this prior to the 2.0 software.
3. I also purchased the EtchASketch app, which is fine, but sometimes after running EtchASketch, returning to the main menu, then rerunning EAS, it just sits on the title page and never leaves. The iPod is not hung up as I can return to the main menu, but EAS won't run properly again until I power down completely and start up again.
The Touch is really my favorite "gadget" that I've purchased in recent history, but I'm very disappointed in this release with the glitches in upgrade and the glitches in operation. (Not to mention feeling a little bit taken advantage of in having purchased the $20 January upgrade to find that I've now paid a total of $30 for something that others now get for $10.)
I'm hoping at least one of the problems, (the artwork), is some form of operator error, so I can get things back the way they were.
Thanks for any suggestions you can offer, or news of impending fixes.

I bought the 2.0 upgrade but can't install it. I get an error message "iphone 2.0 upgrade. You do not have enough priveledges for this operation". It's so weird, i bought it, it shows up as a download waiting for me but I can't download it. Any ideas out there to help with this would be appreciated. I put a support request through to apple a few days back but have not heard from them.

  • CIT200 message, 'Please upgrade operating system' when I click on Linksys

I have removed and re-installed Linksys CIT200 over and over again, but still have the same problem.  Whenever my pc XP start up or when I click on Linksys, it wont let me view Linksys and a message pops up. Message reads, 'CIT200 Please upgrade operating system'.  I do not know what Im supposed to do.  I also had the EAccess Violation message, but managed to remove it with the help of this forum.  I cannot use my SKYPE phone at all and I have plenty of credit that I might loose.  It says Unavailable.
Please help!!!!!!!  I've tried eveything that I (and a local pc repair man) could think of

    Hi Gollum
Thanks for replying so quickly.  If drivers are the same as software, then yes.  I uninstalled my software (disc I got with the phone).  I then reinstalled it and went to the Linksys website, found my phone ad downloaded the drivers.
If this was wrong, could you give me step by step on where to find the latest software? I couldn't find any mention of software downloads on the website though - only drivers.   Are they the same?
As I mentioned, even with the driver download, I have had no joy

  • How do I back up files to external hard drive in order to upgrade operating system?

How do I back up files to external hard drive in order to upgrade operating system?

Buy yourself a portable hard drive from WD or the like.  It should have a capacity at least twice that of your machine hard drive.  Then follow the instructions that come with it; it is quite straightforward.
I have a similar machine to you by the sound of it.   After the initial back up, it is just a matter of topping up every couple of months or so, plus whenever you do to back up any major upgrade.
A portable one is good because you can store it with relatives when not in use which gives protection in the case of fire or theft.
I use two backups.   One, an external HD permanently connected for my Time Machine and the second, a portable for the reasons I gave.

  • My photoshop quit unexpectedly after upgrade operating system

When I upgrade my operating system from leopard to Lion ,  Now My photoshop CS5 quit unexpectedly . I open photoshop and its quit unexpectedly. How can I solve this problem. Please help. Thanks advance for your help.

I have not upgraded to Lion yet, but maybe some of this helps …
As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed) by pressing command-alt-shift on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.
Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)
If 3rd party plug-ins are installed try disabling them to verify if one of those may be responsible for the problem.

  • Need help on upgrading operating system from Mac OSX 10.3.9

We have a Imac G5 with Mac OS X v 10.3.9. We want an upgrade to run new ILife stuff. We don't know what we are doing.
What should we get to update the operating system, where, and how do we upgrade the system?
Are there any particular requirements that my computer will need? How do I know that I have them?
Is there anything in particular in the System Profile that I need to make sure that I have?

You don't say what iMac G5 you have, but here's the *Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard installation system requirements* http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24950 You may have to increase your RAM. A minimum of 1GB is recommended. If you click on About This Mac, you will see how much RAM is currently installed.
Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store *but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753)*.
Suggest you download the two PDF documents at the top of this link.

  • Upgrading Operating system from Mac OS X 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard

I have a MacBook pro & am thinking of upgrading the operating system - will there be any machine and/or software compatibility issues with, say, upgrading to the Snow Leopard when it is due out in Sept 09 ??

Upgrading from Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger.
If your Intel-based Mac is running Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger, purchase the Mac Box Set (when available), which is a single, affordable package that includes Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard; iLife ’09, with the latest versions of iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, iWeb, and iDVD; and iWork ’09, Apple’s productivity suite for home and office including Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.

  • Deactivation after upgrading operating system

Hey does anyone know how to deactivate Photoshop CS5, AFTER you've updating you Mac operating system? In hindsight i guess i should have deactivated it before updating my operating system. But it's too late now so how can i deactivate the old one so that i can reinstall it afresh on my new operating system?

Hey, thanks for your time on this.
Yeah, I wouldn't have expected any problems with activating different versions of CS at once, like you have. That all seems logical. But in my case I'm just looking to activate the same version of CS on two macs simultaneously (far as I know, Adobe allows two simultaneous activations of any given licence).
Like you, I totally imagined the licence was related to the machine, hence me not deactivating it before upgrading my OSX. But it seems Adobe are saying the opposite; they're saying if you haven't deactivated it prior to upgrade your OSX, it still counts as one of your two activations. I don't get it. Anyway, hopefully adobe themselves will reply eventually and solve it.
    thanks v much

  • Upgrading operating system

Hello we have an old Power Mac G5 Quad 64bit desktop computer with a 10.4.11 operating system. We are just now looking into upgrading. I was told by Apple support they no longer carry the 10.5 disk and that I would need to look to ebay to purchase the disk. I found the Lepard installation disk on ebay and I'm needing help on which to purchase.
Apple Mac OS X Leopard ...  I have found 2 boxes that have an X on the front with a background color of either red or purple/blue. I don't know if the background color means anything but if they do I don't want to purchase the wrong one.
Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard Server 10 Client Full Retail Install Package DVD Disc .... also has an X with a green background, the box says it's a server, not sure if I need to purchase this also along with the purple one or red one.
Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Thank you for your answer, I have one more question i noticed that boxes have different numbers after the five such as... 10.5.1, 10.5.4, 10.5.6.  Do I have to get the 10.5.1 first then purchase the others and install those also? Does it matter, or will any of these do the same thing going from 10.4.11 straight to 10.5.6 ?

  • How to upgrade operating system

can't seem to find 10.7 operating system to download in able to upgrade to Icloud

How to Install Lion Successfully - You must have Snow Leopard 10.6.7 or 10.6.8 Installed
    A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.3.) if DW cannot fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall Snow Leopard.
    B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility:
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the backup volume. Source means the internal startup volume.
    C. Important: Please read before installing:
If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before installing the update unless you will boot from this drive and install the update on it. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is complete and you've restarted.
You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-party system software modifications, or if you have modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer (see below) from Apple Downloads to update.  While the installation is in progress do not use the computer.
    D. To upgrade to Lion:
Purchase the Lion Installer from the Mac App Store. The download will start quickly. Lion is nearly 4 GBs so a fast internet connection is essential. Download time could run upwards of 4 hours depending upon network conditions and server demands at the time.
Boot From The Lion Installer which is located in your Applications folder.
    Follow instructions for installation.

  • Upgrading Operating System in Boot Camp Partition

I am currently running Windows XP in my Boot Camp partition. I want to upgrade to Windows 7 when it comes out in October. Can I so this with the upgrade version of Windows 7 without removing the Boot Camp partition? I understand that you can't install an upgrade version of an operating system when you create a boot camp partition, but I'm wondering if you can do so if you are upgrading an existing operating system?

Only Vista, and you would need NTFS and do clean install.

The first step in Upgrading... is to Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
    Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...
    Snow Leopard Tech Specs
If so... Purchase a Snow Leopard Install Disc...
    Other countries...
After the Successful Install, run Software Update to get the latest updates for Snow Leopard and iTunes.
Be sure to make a Backup of your Current System Before Upgrading...

Can my operating system for my MacPro 7.1, which is OS X v10.6.8, be upgraded to OS X v10.9?

Yes, if the computer has at least 2GB of RAM. Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and download Mavericks from the Mac App Store.

  • Upgrading Operating System with CS5

Hi, I am currenlty running CS5 on my Apple Imac with operating system 10.5.8.  I am looking to upgrade to operating system Maverick and just want to know if my CS5 will upgrade with it?

AFAIK, you cannot do an inlace upgrade of 10.5 to 10.9 and even if you could
it's a horrible idea. Do a clean install but note that CS5 is unsupported
and untested. It might work, it might not.
