2 Computers, 1 Ipod, 1 library

I own a desktop, a laptop and my ipod. I do add content often. What is the simplest way to sync all 3 libraries?

Some useful info, but here is what I need to do. I add music to computer 1, I update ipod on computer 1. I want to access music on computer 2, but wait, the music I put on computer 1 and ipod is not on computer 2 (The biggest mistake I made was formatting all my music so that now only Itunes will play it), and so far there seems to be no simple way to sync a library between 2 computers so I end up manually having to add, edit and convert on both computers. I tried manually copying the entire library from one to another, but it takes a long time and copies all music instead of just new entries, plus I have to reauthorize any purchases. So I guess my question is more clearly stated as how to sync 2 computers so that my music collection can be accessed from both.

  • Internal Hard Drive Full - Want To transfer my iPod library to external HD

I have a 60GB iPod and my desktop's hard drive is full therby preventing me from downloading anymore to my iPod. I have a 300GB external hard drive that I want to move everything to, especially my iPod Library. HELP!! How do I do it?

    Check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2).
There's also another method. I've successfully tested this across several different Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), there's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
The above methods may depend on what version of iTunes you are running.
If none of these methods work, try CopyPod. This does preserve playlists/playcounts/ratings.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.

  • Replacing iTunes library with iPod library?

replacing iTunes library with iPod library?
Can anyone tell me how I can replace my entire iTunes music library with my iPod music?

The transfer of purchased content to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7, look under under File>"Transfer Purchases from iPod". A paragraph on it has been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there's a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to your Mac at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If you prefer something more automated there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others as well, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Senuti Mac Only
    iPodRip Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
    iPod.iTunes Mac Only
    PodView Mac Only
    iPodAccess Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
    PodUtil Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac & Windows
If your library is currently empty and your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting to iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘ Apple) keys. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and it will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. For the duration of the transfer change your update setting to manual so you can use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it: iTunes Keyboard Shortcuts for OSX
Whichever of these transfer methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

  • How do I charge iPod w/ a different computer without losing my iPod library

I usually use the iPod with my G5 at home. Last time I travelled I tried charging the iPod with the USB cable and my laptop. Unfortunately, it decided to use the library of iBook.
I know there is a setting for manually updating, etc. Isn't that option only available when the iPod is plugged into the computer? I would rather do it now while I am at home then on my trip and lose my tracks.
So to sum up, my question is... How do I charge my iPod with a second machine and not lose my iPod library?
Thank you so much in advance!
    Bobby

Since you have a fifth generation iPod and a machine with FireWire ports, you can do this by plugging it in through the FireWire connection; that iPod will charge but not sync through FireWire. Otherwise, set the iPod to update manually when it is hooked up to the main machine, or use these instructions to change the synchronization mode.

  • How can I install my husbands iPod/library on the same computer that I have my iPod/library on? Can someone send me the step by step instructions? I was a windows computer. Thanks!

So we just got a new computer and I was able to successfully add my iPod/library to it. However when I tried to add my husbands iPod/library to the computer his library didn't show up. He is ony able to charge his iPod but cannot see his library. I tried adding another account/admin to my computer and download itunes with his ipod that way but it said there was another library and it couldn't access his library song list. His ipod is showing up on the left side however when I click on it there is nothing displaying. So my question to you or what I am trying to figure out is how can I get his ipod to show up with his library if he plugs in his ipod? Do I need to create a new account and if so how do I do it? I have a windows computer. Can someone give me step by step instructions on how to do this? He is going crazy not being able to access anything.
    Thanks!

  • IPod library doesn't display on computer

    Hi,
When I plug in my iPod now, I get a summary but I can't see the contents of the iPod. I use windows, is there anything that I need to do differently?
    Thank you.

Click on the triangle next to the iPod in the source pane until it points downward.
Then click on music. There's your iPod library.

  • How many computers/iPods can a song be on?

I have a computer and a laptop and want to buy an iPod. I think you're limited to the number of computers/iPods you can play songs on. Does anyone know what it is? Is it only for computers or do iPods count too?

Is the number of computers limited for I-pods that have other material than music from I-tunes on them?
We recently purchased the micro-memo for ipod 60 gig.
Can the I-pod be shared among more than 5 users to record their content and transfer it to their computers?
For example: An instructor checks out an I-pod 60 gig and Micro memo to record a lecture. Transfers the recording to his computer. Multiple instructors would do the same.
Is this kind of use limited?

Have you failed to maintain a backup copy?
You should never update without making sure your backup copy of your computer is up to date.
You can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod to computer:  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
