A.)
...for 0x81080101:
"ERROR - The shared restore point operation failed with error (0x81000101)
The creation of a shadow copy has timed out. Try again this operation."
If you receive the above error in your report, we have recently found a registry key which
contains the timeout value set by Microsoft for VSS and found that you can edit this to extend it.
To get to the registry key, open Regedit (Start > Run > Regedit) and browse to:
"HKLM\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\SPP\\CreateTimeout".
Change value to 1200000 (2*10*60*1000 = 20 mins).
The default for the timeout period is 10 mins so hopefully doubling this will give enough time to
complete the snapshot.
If this isn't present, you'll need to manually enter the registry key. It's a DWORD 32-bit key.
--> NOTE: HAve not done this yet.

2155348001 - 0x80780021 - Windows Backup timed-out before the shared protection point was created.
Should we run the "FIXVSS08.BAT" script - restarts services and re-registers DLL's - does this ever help?
Will this server need a reboot since VSS is in a state and we can't even test backups?
Is there a tool we can use to debug VSS or troubleshoot or OS backups further?
MSReport/Diag, VSS debugging, or another way of helping fix our OS(SystemState/C: drive) backup issues?
Any help is greatly appreciated - thx.

Scot Pichelman

Hi Scot,
Sometimes a third party backup application will change the default VSS provider adding VSS writers which causes Windows Server Backup using an incorrect component in doing backup, that's why I suggest to delete it for a test. Anyway you can reinstall it
after testing.
And as you said a high-load CPU could also be the cause of the issue so you may need to first rule hardware effective out.
If issue still exists, please try the steps below as well:
1. Please check DCOM Server Process Launcher service is started.
2. If not, try to change RPC service to run as SYSTEM account. To do this please modify the following key:
Note: Backup the key before edit incase it cause any issue.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\RpcSs\
Find "ObjectName" and change the value to LocalSystem.
Reboot to see if DCOM back to work and if Windows Server Backup starts working. If not, please provide the result if there is any new error occurs.
If DCOM still not work, please compare the content of the following key with a working server:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\OLE
Edit if there is any difference and make sure you created a backup of the key before editing.

I would like to buy a developer license to use on a mac at a public library from a flash drive any issue with this? Very new to this

The license is for the Developer not the machine it is run on However there could be soma issues with trying to develop on a public machine.
The biggest is does the library machine have or will they let you install  and run Xcode and if you are developing for IOS will they let you plug in your devices?
In addition will they allow you the hours needed on the machine? Most public machines have a time limit especially if there are others waiting to use it.
All-in-all in can be done but it won;t be an easy situation.
    good luck

Reviewing event details, as suggested, does not offer any solution.
I have tried the suggested solutions in other similar threads of increasing the timeout value with the registry entry.
    This does not work.
I have not tried reregistering the VSS writers manually, as the only links I have found are for server 2003/2008 (not R2) and explicitly state that they won’t work on higher versions of the OS, since they now utilize manifests and the manual procedure could
cause problems for those servers. Haven't found similar procedures for 2008 R2.
I have been able to narrow this down a bit.
    A Windows 2008 R2 SP1 server with Hyper-V installed – backup to a network share is successful;
Install the DPM 2012 agent – same backup fails with the 2155348001 error.
We use DPM 2012 to backup VMs, but DPM cannot perform a bare metal backup/restore of server and the 2012 version no longer has the DPMSRT feature.
I prefer to run Bare Metal Backup to a file server share.
    Stuck on this one.

  • Hard drive failure - issues with iTunes data

My hard drive broke and Apple replaced it.
As a consequence I had issues with data in iTunes, iMovie and iPhoto.
iTunes in particular was a problem as the Mac seemed to think tracks were stored in the trash, so I had reloaded tracks to iTunes (which took ages) and then all seemed fine.
My hard drive was then full so I deleted my trash (97Gb which took over 30 hours) and the same issue happened again - about 40% of my iTunes library cannot find the files as it thinks they are stored in the trash.
Any ideas what might be happening?

    Ouch...
But before going for an expensive data recovery service, you have some other options.
At first you have to get that harddrive connected to your iMac. There are several solutions to that. One is to buy a SATA USB Docking Bay (see picture). You can put the harddisk in it and connect it via USB to your iMac.
Next you'll need recovery software. Disk Utility will probably not help you, but it is worth the try (because it is free and comes with OSX).
A great piece of software to look at is DiskWarrior. It once helped me accessing a dying External Harddisk and got most of the data off it before it really died. There are more applications, just google 'Data Recovery OSX', and you will find a lot more.
Oh, and make sure to start a good back-up plan for the future. Time Machine is great, or Carbon Copy Cloner, and maybe invest in a decent NAS to copy your data on.
    Good luck!

  • Hard drive performance issue with DPX & MXF files

    Hi everyone,
I spent hours on this forum reading articles about hardware to use for editing large files. I also have to admit, that I made some cut backs due to budge limitations.
I spent most of the money on CPU, motherboard, & ram (6 core  32 gigs , hell of nice MB)  ( Video card= gtx 760 2 gig  )So ok,  I cheaped out on the hard drives. (I think)
I put (2) 7200 rpm  drives (raid 0) as my Operating  system
    (1) External  8TB RAID  G drive (USB 3.0 ) as my Media drive. (footage)
    (2) 7200 drives (Raid 0)  as my Cache Drive
I then opened up an OLD project using canon 5D footage (h264 mov) and some DPX sequence files.
The 5D fooatge played in real time BUT as soon as it ran into the DPX sequence, the frames dropped.
I wanted to cry. I just spent 1,600.00 on  parts (&3000.00 pc retail if I bought it instead of building it)
And I got the same performance as my old quad core 6600/ 6 ram system. WHAT GIVES????
So, can someone recommend the cheapest workaround that can get me editing in realtime?
Do you think it's the 3.0 usb connection?
The footage I will be editing will be from the canon c300 (MXF files)
My fear is, if I am dropping frames with DPX file, what's going to happen when I get the MXF files?
    Fun Facts:
I tested my OS drives, cache & media, and I was getting 290-301mb/sec  READ SPEEDS
    Thanks in advance !

    Loucann,
I do not have the data on a three drive RAID 0 but here is a two drive RAID 0 with good Seagate ST2000DM001 drives.  I have to say "good" because there have been two varieties available, some with two platters and some with three platters.  The preferable are with two platters and my experience shows these drive to have an "E" in the third character of the Serial Number like Z1E1ME4V  They are slightly faster than the three platter versions.  Here is the HD Tune Read of the two better ST2000DM001 drives in RAID 0 on my system.
The best connection is to have all three on a RAIDable Intel SATA III connection but I am doubtfull if this can be accomplished on many motherboards, maybe Eric can comment and enlighten us.

What motherboard do you have?  I guess from the info above it is a socket 2011.

  • Oracle 9.2.0.6 client JDBC OCI driver compatibility issue with JRockit 1.4.

I have weblogic server 8.1 sp4 running on Linux E3.0 using JRockit 1.4.2_5.
I cannot seem to get the Oracle driver ojdbc14.jar to work. Yes I have added $ORACLE_HOME/bin to my classpath prior to any weblogic classes, I added $ORACLE_HOME/lib and $ORACLE_HOME/jdbc/lib to my LD_LIBRARY_PATH with no luck.
I get the error "no ojdbc10 in java.library.path".
I keep reading in the JDBC driver notes that the driver is compatible with different version of JDK 1.x but not JRockit. Perhaps Oracle 10 has this fixed.
Anyone experiences the same problem ? I am stuck ..

Oracle database 10.2 drivers ojdbc14.jar may also be used with JDK 5.0.

  • Live Drive IR issue with Mic2 in

I hook my guitar through an effects processor then into the mic2 input of the Li've Dri've. I would hear the guitar through my computer speakers as I was playing. I would use the mic2 input to record a track, then use the "what I hear" option to overdub. Everything was great..... Now I can no longer hear my guitar though my speakers as I play. I'm still in mic2, I can record just fine. I just cant hear it as I am recording. When I play back what I recorded It sounds fine. It seems I have lost the "Li've" out of my Li've Dri've. I checked every setting I can think of in the sound mixer, volume controls, muted and unmuted things, checked all the knobs on the Li've Dri've.... I just cant figure out why it doesn't work anymore....if i plug headphones in I still cant hear as I am recording. Any help would be appreciated!

I got it working again. I downloaded the Li'veDrvPack.exe from http://www.fileshack.com/file.x?fid=544?ran that, then I could not unmute my mic2 input, I had previously saw in the creative forums a post with the mic2 mute problem and it was an issue with quicktime interfering at start up. I used msconfig to stop the Quicktime service from starting, can now unmute mic2. Tested mic2 with my guitar...rock on. Thanks tboyblu, I guess something did change or got corrupted and loading the li'vedrvpack resolved the issue.

  • IPhoto External Hard Drive Backup Issues

    Hi All,
I'm have trouble with iPhoto on my iMac G5.
I'm running out of space on my hard drive so I want to permanently move my iphoto library over to my external Lacie hard drive. I've created a copy of the iPhoto library on the external hard drive, but it does not update automatically when I add new photos, and ultimately I want to move the entire iPhoto libray over to this drive to save space on my iMac.
Any ideas on how to do this?
    Thanks in advance
    Sky

    Sky:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What you need to do is launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and, when asked, opt to locate your library. Then navigate to the library on the external and select it.
If you have photos in your old library that you want to copy to the external library either drag the appropriate roll folder in the Originals folder into the open iPhoto window to import those files or use iPhoto Library Manager to cpy the rolls from the old library to the new one like this. This way you can retain any keywords or comments you've added to those files. When you're satisfied that your external library has all of the photos you can delete the one on your boot drive.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Macbook won't recognize external Hard Drive and issues with Time Machine

    Hello everyone,
I have just bought a new Macbook Pro with Mountain Lion and I am currently having problems with Time Machine.
The issue begun in Snow Leopard: Time Machine was taking too long to backup, and would often not finish the backup because the external hard drive would be unwillingly ejected.
Now with Mountain Lion I have reformated the drive (Mac OS Journaled) and about a third of the way through had the same issue: the drive was ejected before the backup could be finished. I restarted the machine and it happened again. However, now the computer won't even recognize the external drive when I plug it in. I have also tried to power off/on the drive itself to no progress.
I have tested the USB port with another drive and the port is fine. I have also tested the usb cable and it is fine. And Disk Utility does not recognize the drive (even when I try the >diskutil list command in terminal).
Now, I can hear the drive humming normally when I turn it on, and it is not usb-powered (my electricity current does fluctuate).
Could the interrupted backup procedures have damaged the drive? And if so, wouldn't the computer recognize it anyway?
It is a 4 year old WD 1 TB that is used exclusively for TM and has never left the house.
Thank you for your time reading this and let me know if you need any more information that could help out.
    Cheers!

From your description, I'd suspect a failing drive. Maybe time for a new external, especially as you've already re-formatted and it's still playing up.
I had a similar problem with one of my clone backups a few weeks ago - it failed, I erased it, re-cloned, worked a couple of times and then it failed again. Disk Utility didn't throw up any errors after re-formatting. I guess all disks die at some point.

  • External drive sleep issues with AEBS.....

I have a WD My Passport Studio drive, which works fine when I plug it into the USB port of my router to access over the wireless network (Apple Airport Extreme). It takes power directly from the USB port. No problems whatsoever.
If I plug my WD My Book Studio II drive (which is a 3.5" so has its own external power) into the USB port on the same router, I can access it over the wireless fine. But after a while of non-use it goes to sleep. Waking it up from sleep over the wireless connection then takes so long that I need to just unplug it and plug it back into the USB port again!
Is there any way I can stop it from going into its power save / sleep mode when used with the AEBS?

When I check my e-mail with my iPhone in the morning, there are no messages there, because when I wake up the Mini the next morning, it has already downloaded messages I received overnight. I can tell the computer was not actually awake, because no Time Machine backups had been done since I put it to sleep the night before.
I found other threads referring to Lacie drives not spinning down, so I'm assuming that's a problem with the drive, not with Lion trying to access the drive while the computer is asleep.

  • Backup Issue with WinXP

I have an iPhone 3G and I'm trying to sync / backup the phone to a Windows XP computer. The computer is authorized and we have sync'd purchased music to the iPhone. The iPhone is running iOS 5.01 with iTunes 10.6.1.
When trying to sync the iPhone - it goes through the syncing process fine, though on Step 7, a window pops up that the iPhone is not connected. Then another window pops up with a message that iTunes could not connect to WinXP.  We can't update the iPhone to 5.1 without first doing a successful backup. We ran diagnostics within iTunes - and all Tests checked out fine.
Any thoughts on what the issue might be?
    Paul

I don't think you can disable Change Tracking and then restore the situation  you were in. You would have to resync everything.
Whether you can delete rows from sys.syscommitab? Yes, but you should also do so when adviced and instructed by a Microsoft support engineer. I would strongly recommend that you open a case with Microsoft. Since this appears to be due to a malfunction in
the product, the case should be free of charge.

  • Backup issue with HotSync

Hotsync keeps on backing up all the .PDBs in the handheld to the "backup" folder on my pc even though it has changed. I have a progam that I created in my handheld that uses these PDBs.This becomes an issue during the sync operation because some of the PDBs are huge. It tends to backup everything if one of the files in the handheld device has changed.
    Post relates to: Palm Pilot

This is normal operation of the device. The device backs up the data so if you do a hard reset on the device or if the data is lost you can restore that back to the device. You can turn this off if you go into the conduit settings and for backup select no nothing and select set as default

  • G Drive boot issue with G Tech Cable

i had a /very/ gnarly problem with my option boot freezing up when my G Drive was on while working fine when the device was off. since i bought this for a Time Machine backup, turning off to boot and trying to remember to turn back on bit all the time back and forth and back and forth.
we switched ports, i did an RMA and it turns out that i am pretty sure this had to do with a /type/ of cable. not one single cable but the FW800 that come with this device. could be wrong but everything is working now with a different kind of cable and same slots while both white cables that i am sure came from the manufacturer do not work in the same slots.
anyway, on the off chance that someone else is trying to hack through these woods:
for the record the cable is white and says "13945" on the end as well as "91 AWM E257034 FREEWAY STYLE 20276 80degreesC 30V VW-1..."
i have a mac pro (1,1) and the device is a G-Tech 3 TB external drive.

i think i jumped the gun here. it appears that it is the firewire port on the back of the machine that may be the problem here.
anyway, plugging the non G-Tech cable into the firewire port on the front of the machine seems to have solved the fact that i was still having problems using the FW port on the back...

  • External Hard Drive Sync Issue with Deletion

So I recently set up my external hard drive to be my main music folder. The external HD runs continuously on my Mac Pro desktop. I've set it up so the external HD is mounted remotely on my laptop, so I can get all my itunes music without having to physically connect to the drive. I've set it up and everything loaded in, works fine. . . .
But then I tried to delete some files using itunes. It deleted them from my itunes library alright. But they did not delete from the external HD. Furthermore, it did not even prompt me to "keep files" or "delete from library".
I then ran an test. Could i change ID3 tags? Maybe I didn't have write permission or something. Nope, I was able to change ID3 tags just fine.
Does anybody know a way to make this work? Why it doesn't prompt me to "delete" my files?
    Thanks.

is there perhaps a problem with permissions? does this problem happen whether you're using either computer or only with the laptop? maybe the laptop only has permission to delete songs from its local database and but not to delete the tracks from the shared master music folder.
i use a wireless external drive for my music too. though i've never had your problem, i have experienced something similar. if i delete a track via Finder then open iTunes, it still thinks the track is there. so if i then delete it in iTunes, it doesn't ask me if i want to keep the files or not, it only removes it from the iTunes library. in other words, i don't get prompted to keep or delete tracks if the track is already gone from the hard drive but still in the iTunes database. i haven't tried changing the tags in that scenario however.

  • ATI driver installation issue with Windows Vista on Boot Camp (new iMac)

    I've just purchased a new 20" iMac with Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz.
Then I installed Windows Vista Ultimate on a Boot Camp partition.
Vista installation was eventless and worked nicely.
    Now the problem has begun...
I downloaded the latest ATI graphic card driver (Catalyst 7.7 for Vista 32) from the ATI website. The Catalyst software did not recognize the graphic card and installed nothing. I still have generic Microsoft standard VGA video adapter, which keeps me from playing any recent 3D games...
Someone please help me on this so that I can start playing Oblivion...

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
I still have to find a verification for this, but:
Aplle has up to now always used the Mobility versions of the ATI and NVIDIA graphics chips in the iMacs and MacBooks, MacBooks Pro.
I assume that the in the new imacs, they are also using the Mobility version of the Radeon 2400/2600.
The ATI drivers you can download from the ATI/AMD website are only suitable for the Desktop Radeons, NOT for the Mobility Radeons.
ATI/AMD does not provide drivers for the Mobility Radeons, but are refering to the Manufacturer of the Computer for Drivers, which is Apple.
Sorry to say, but it seems you have to wait for a new BootCamp version which you include Driver support of the new iMacs.
    Sorry
