2008 r2 Secure by Computer

I have been asked to secure a 2008 R2 terminal server in the was 2x securerdp worked however it doesn't seem to work on this server.
what I really need is to stop people from using non domain workstations logging into a terminal server without a lot of extra addons.

Hi,
Apart you can also try to apply policy setting to specific group, whom you don’t want to provide access for remote login to RD server. You can apply “Deny logon through Remote Desktop Services” on RD server and add the required users\groups so that
they can’t connect to that server.
More information.

Hope it helps!

  • How can I secure my computer from the new virus?

I apologize if this question has been asked already, but I was unable to find any useful information regarding how I can secure my computer. Also, are Snow Leopard Macs still at risk?

    The ‘Flashback Trojan’:
A version of an existing Trojan Horse posing as a legitimate Flash Player installer (named “Flashback.A” by a security firm) is designed to disable updates to the default Mac OS X anti-malware protection system, potentially leaving the system open to the manual installation of other malware without any system warnings. The latest Macs do not have Plash Player included. In order to prevent a potential infection with “Flashback” Trojans, Mac users should always obtain their copy of Adobe Flash Player directly from Adobe’s official website and to disable the "Open 'safe' files after downloading" option in Apple's Safari browser to avoid automatically running files downloaded from the Internet. Also, do not turn on Java in Safari Preferences/Security. Few websites use Java. Javascript is something entirely different and should be left active.

  • Macbook dies after 2008-005 security update: even hardware test not working

My Macbook no longer boots after installing security update 2008-005. Behaves as if HD is dead, AND as if boots from SuperDrive are broken too.
    Sequence of events:
    1. 10.5.4, Software Update notifies me of update.
    2. I permit it. Immediately requires a reboot.
    3. Go away for several hours.
    4. Upon return, I notice the Leopard outer-space background.
    5. Spinning beachball when I move the mouse.
    6. Go away for several minutes.
    7. Return. No change. Power down computer.
OK ... by now, you may be saying that it might still have been updating and I shouldn't have interrupted it.
But since then, the machine behaves not only like the disk is dead, but I can't even get a hardware test to run from DVD.
    So, to continue.
    8. Start machine again. Apple boot sound. Nothing on screen.
    9. After a while, flashing "folder" icon with question mark.
Since then I've attempted to boot in safe mode, verbose mode, FireWire target disk mode (against a 10.4.x box), boot from original install disk, boot into hardware test mode from original install disk. None of these things worked. I've reset the PRAM.
The only diagnostic activity of all of these that has produced any different feedback is the PRAM reset (which sounded the Apple boot sound a second time). Everything else does not work. If the HD was dead, I could understand that none of the attempts to boot into FireWire target disk mode, or to boot from DVD and then expect to see the HD mount in some way, would work. But since it doesn't even boot the hardware test from the DVD, I'm really baffled. Any ideas? Thanks.

Well, my solution was to buy DiskWarrior and copy what I could (which was a lot, thankfully) to a FireWire external disk, then reinstall. DiskWarrior reports S.M.A.R.T. status OK, so I've gone with a fresh partition in Disk Utility and successfully installed 10.4 from the original DVDs.
Have also run Apple Hardware Test and had no problems, so I've decided to trust the drive in the short term.
Unfortunately, now, 10.5 upgrade disks won't finish and guess what ... a partial install of 10.5 breaks the 10.4! So, the machine has a recognizable startup disk but justs sits in a loop rebooting itself, presumably as it hits some inter-10.4/10.5 state and gives up.
Next up I tried to restore my 10.5 from a wired ethernet connection to my Time Capsule. Having never once been able to browse my backups in Time Machine under 10.5, I was somewhat surprised to find that the 10.5 Installer was happy to let me try a restore from the Time Capsule. It crunched away until it was happy that I had enough space on my new partition, and then did what seemed a pretty instantaneous restore. The Macbook reboots and ... can't see the startup disk.
Maybe my disk really is on the way out.

    Hi Zeeshan,
I have found a hotfix against the same error messages, though it applies to Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, I am not sure if it will work on your machine.
Please refer to this KB article below:

  • SSRS 2008 - Vista Security - Header Only

I installed SQL 2008 Developer and Reporting Services on my Vista Ultimate x64 box.  The box is a new rebuild and only has drivers and windows updates on it.  During the setup of SQL I told it to use my login as the account to run all the SQL services as including Reporting Services.  I also used the default configuration for SSRS during the setup.
The problem I am having is everytime open http://<mycomputer>/reports I only see the header.  I am almost sure it is a security thing because if I browse to http://<mycomputer>/reports/pages/SystemSecurity.aspx I get a "You do not have permission to access this page".
Another problem is everytime I first load http://<mycomputer>/reports it also asks me to log in.  I type in my account information that I am currently logged in as and it lets me in but again I only see the header.  I have added http://<mycomputer> as a trusted site while running IE as administrator but it did not help.
Please help, all the google docs I keep finding only apply to SSRS 2005.

Here is the final solution.  Hopefully this will help some people who try to get Reporting Services for SQL 2008 Developer working on Windows Vista using IE8.  To restate, I was having two issues.  One was that I was being prompted to log in everytime I went to http://[computername]/reports.  The other was that once there I was only seeing the reporting services header.  Everything I was experiencing was related to Vista User Access Control (UAC).  Here are the steps to get it working WITH UAC ON.  Maybe someone can post this to their blog since everything out there seems to relate to SSRS 2005 and/or IE7.
    Environment
    ·          Vista Ultimate 64 Bit
    ·          Internet Explorer 8
    ·          SQL Server 2008 Developer with Reporting Services installed
    ·          UAC is on.
    Issue
When you browse to http://[ComputerName]/Reports it prompts you to login
    Cause
This is caused by UAC.  Even if you run Internet Explorer as Administrator, once you log in you are no longer running with administrative privileges.
    Resolution 1
    1.     Open Internet Explorer
    2.     Click on the "Tools" menu and select "Internet Options"
    3.     Click on the "Security" tab
    4.     Click once on "Local intranet"
    5.     Click on the "Sites" button
    6.     Click on the "Advanced" button
    7.     Make sure "Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone is unchecked.
    8.     Add "http://[ ComputerName]" to the Websites list.
    9.     Click the "Close" button to close the Advanced window.
    10.   Click the “Custom Level” button near the bottom.
    11.   Scroll down to the end and you will see the “User Authentication” section.
    12.   User “User Authentication” and then “Logon” verify that “Automatic logon only in Intranet Zone” is selected.  If not select it.
    13.   Click “OK” to close the Security Settings - Local Intranet Zone window.
    14.   Click the "OK" button to close the Local intranet window.
    15.   Click the "OK" button to close the Internet Options Window
    16.   Close Internet Explorer
    17.   Re-open Internet Explorer and browse to http://[ ComputerName]/Reports.  You should no longer be prompted to login.
    Resolution 2
    1.     Open Internet Explorer
    2.     Click on the "Tools" menu and select "Internet Options"
    3.     Click on the "Security" tab
    4.     Click once on "Trusted sites"
    5.     Click on the "Sites" button
    6.     Make sure "Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone is unchecked.
    7.     Add "http://[ComputerName]" to the Websites list.
    8.     Click the "Close" button to close the Trusted Sites window.
    9.     You should now be back on the "Security" tab of "Internet Options".
    10.   Make sure "Trusted Sites" is still selected and click the "Custom Level" button near the bottom.
    11.   Scroll down to the end and you will see the "User Authentication" section.
    12.   Under "User Authentication" and then "Logon" select the option that says "Automatic login with current user name and password"/
    13.   Click "OK" to close the Security Settings - Trusted Sites Zone window.
    14.   Click the "OK" button to close the Internet Options Window
    15.   Close Internet Explorer
    16.   Re-open Internet Explorer and browse to http://[ComputerName]/Reports.  You should no longer be prompted to login.
    Issue
When you browse to http://[ComputerName]/reports you only see the Report Manager header.
    Cause
This is caused by UAC.  By default Reporting Services should allow members of the Local Administrators group access to reporting services but with UAC turned On Reporting Services is not recognizing the logged in user as part of the Local Administrators group.  You will need to explicitly add your account inside reporting services.
    Verification
You can verify this issue by browsing to http://[ComputerName]/ReportServer.  You should receive a message that says: The permissions granted to user '[UserLogin]' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied).
    Resolution
    1.     Open Internet Explorer in Administrator mode by right clicking on the IE icon and selecting "Run as administrator".
    2.     Browse to http://[ComputerName]/Reports
    3.     On the home page click on the "Properties" tab
    4.     Click on "New Role Assignment"
    5.     Add your qualified local login as a Content Manger (for example: [ComputerName]\[LoginName] or [Domain]\[LoginName])
    6.     Next in the upper right click on "Site Settings"
    7.     On the left menu select "Security"
    8.     Click on "New Role Assignment"
    9.     Add your qualified local login as a System Administrator (for example: [ComputerName]\[LoginName] or [Domain]\[LoginName])
    10.   Close Internet Explorer and open normally
    11.   Browse to http://[ComputerName]/Reports and you should be working properly

  • 2008.007 Security Update Will Not Boot - 2 different MacBooks

I installed the 2008.007 update on a 15" first gen MacBook Pro and an 11 month old 17" Santa Rosa 2.4ghz MacBook Pro today.
Both rebooted successfully the first time and we could login but on a reboot or second user login we got a peculiar blank blue screen with the circular 'wait' icon (you know, the animated segmented circle) appearing every seven seconds or so along with a responsive cursor and then disappearing for 4-5 seconds before repeating the cycle.
Have booted each up in target mode & repaired disk, used the install DVD and repaired permissions, zapped the PRAM, etc. all with no effect.
Examining system.log in single user or target modes (which both work fine) shows this message which is very concerning:

  • After installing recent java + security update, computer will not sleep

After installing the recent java, daylight savings, and the security update. my computer will not sleep. Does anyone else have this problem? I do have an adaptec usb2 card installed but nothing is plugged into it. Also i don't have any Ipods or external things plugged in. I have had the same setup for the past year with no problems, now it will not sleep. I have also tried repairing the permissions. Please help

When you select Sleep from the Apple Menu nothing happens, is that correct? Try this: Go menu > Home > Library > Preferences. Drag the whole of the Preferences folder to the desktop. Restart your mac, don’t worry if things look different, you have not lost anything. Can the mac sleep now? If yes, then its a damaged or corrupted .plist or preference. If you are using Apple Mail, drag the com.apple.mail.plist back to the new preferences folder created on reboot, you dont really need anything else but keep hold of the old preferences (the one you dragged to your desktop) just in case for a month or two. If everything else is OK you can safely delete it. If it has not cured the problem then remove the new preferences folder created on reboot by taking it to the trash, drag back the preferences folder you moved to the desktop and reboot. Now reinstall a clean OS. See how you go from there

I suppose this shoud read "GPO" and not "FPO"?

How do you determine that it works/doesn't work? Do you filter on the

  • Windows Server 2008 hangs in "Applying computer settings" after installing Sharepoint 2010

    Hi!
I have a server which is designated to be a Sharepoint server, I have successfully installed the server, SQL server R2 and Sharepoint 2010, but right after Sharepoint Server 2010 is installed the nex time I reboot the machine it hangs in "Applying computer
settings" I have tried reinstalling the server several times, improving the server specs.
The installations run just fine I can even see the sharepoint site, and make any configuration, the issue comes when I restart the server (for updates for example..)
Can someone help me with this issue?
    Thanks in advance
    Carlos R Vargas M

    Hi,
It may take some time for configuration after the new installation. Please wait patiently. If it still hangs, please refer to the following article:

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Security Event Log Maximum Size

I have a customer with logging requirements on domain controllers that are exceeding the maximum log size they have configured for the security log.  When they attempted to increase the maximum size of the security event log via Group Policy, the settings
did not take effect.  When an attempt was made to increase the security event log manually on the domain controller via the properties of the log, an error is generated whenever the value was changed.
The Maximum Log Size specified is not valid.  It is too large or too small. The Maximum Log Size will be set to the following: 196608 KB
The 196608 KB value is the value that it is currently set at.  Testing on other logs, application, system, has lead to the same result.
wevtutil.exe sl security /ms:<n> produces similar results.  There is no error message given but the value doesn't change when you run wevtutil.exe gl security
When viewing the registry value MaxSize under HKLM\Current Control Set\Services\EventLog\Security the change is reflected, but the log does not seem to get any larger.
What one would expect to be a two minute change in a group policy object has turned into something much more difficult.  Any idea what could be causing this?
Joseph M. Durnal MCM: Exchange 2010 MCITP: Enterprise Messaging Administrator, Exchange 2010 MCITP: Enterprise Messaging Administrator, MCITP: Enterprise Administrator

I verified that it was not another policy - the domain is pretty simple without many policies, only policies applied are:
Default Domain Policy (no event log settings)
Company Domain Policy (no event log settings)
Default Domain Controller Policy (no event logs settings)
Company Domain Controller Policy (...\Event Log\Maximum security log size 4194240 kilobytes)
The value was 196608 before, the plan was to change the group policy setting to 4194240 and I expected it to be that easy.  However, the values didn't change.
    4194240 is divisible by 64
Used multiple tools to try and change
    Group Policy
    Event Viewer
    wevtutil.exe
    registry editor
While some of the methods display a larger event log, the actual size of the event log still seems to be limited to 196608 kb.
    Thanks,
    Joe

  • Mac Mini Won't Boot after 2008 008 Security Update

I have 2 mac mini's both identical systems - ran the security update at home - rebooted and noticed the movements of the mouse and the mail application was 1/2 to a second slow/behind - decided to restart - it took 3 restarts and it finally came back and then locked up
I ran Disk Warrior and version 4.0.1 could not fix the problem - version 3.0.3 said it could and replaced the directory - but upon restart it would not boot - I became mesmerized by the spinning dial
I will not run the update at work and had to substitute my titanium at home in the meantime

  • Installed todays security update, computer will not boot, down

I installed todays security update. now my G3 600mhz 14" iBook, running 10.3.9, will not boot.
I have had several symptoms throughout the day. A couple of times it sat there for about an hour with a blank screen. It came up several times with the message to type "mac-boot" ( I may be remembering the syntax wrong) I tried that, I also tried typing "shut-down" at that point.
Later it came up to my background screen bout would do nothing and go no further. Now it is siting there with a OS 9 folder icon in the middle of the screen and sometimes the icon alternates between a face and a question mark in the middle of the icon.

    Robert,
I sympathize with your plight. I had a similar problem with my G4 AGP (Sawtooth). Like a dummy, I installed Security Update 2006-004. Upon reading posts about Apple updates on this board, it seem that the knlowledgeable ones wait until the unsuspecting ones walk on the landmines that Apple builds into the upgrades before trying it themselves.
I had exactly the same problems that you describe. Since I believe that my G4 has an extended warrantee, I called Apple Phone Support. The gentleman after listining to my plight, told me that he could not help me because my Mac was a "VINTAGE" model, no longer supported by Apple. How is that for an answer. I guess that now that Apple switched to Intel, all Motorola chips become "persona non-grata".
Anyway, I remember that something like this happened to me some years back with another "upgrade". I believe that basically, the problem is due to the fact that Apple does not make provisions for third party products installed in a Mac. Last time, it was the video card (ATI) that had to be removed in order for the upgrade to work. This time, I had to remove my 2 GHz. Giga Design CPU and put back the measly 400 MHz. Apple CPU. Then I was able to boot normally. I then re-installed the Giga drivers and everything went back to normal. Since I am getting old, and it is recommended for persons of my age to engage in mental exercises, I believe Apple is trying to help me by having my brain work overtime (not to mention the 5 terror-filled hours I spent to resolve the problem.
I suspect the update writes to or resets your PRAM or other non-volatile memory. Does your G3 iBook have any non-Apple components? If so, I suggest you remove it or them. Beyond that, I cannot help you, except to suggest that you reset the PRAM.
I now have transferred most of my data to a fast, trouble-free (relatively) PC. Since in the future, all Macs with have Intel chips, there will be no reason for me, after about 30+ "vintage" years to buy Apple. Of course, just as Apple touts that its OS can run on a PC, PC owners will (are already) running Mac OS on their PC.

    Hi,
The crashes are due to font issues of some kind:
    Thread 0 Crashed:

Does either application work from a different user account? You can use System Preferences -> Accounts -> \[+|-\] to add/remove extra accounts.
If they do work fine in the other account, look in /Users/YourUsualUsername/Library/Fonts/ and remove any fonts you have added recently.
Failing that try FontBook to resolve any duplicate fonts and use FontFinagler (Google for it) to remove potentially corrupt font caches.

  • Sql Server 2008 Reporting Security issue ( added name to Server, some how cannot acces the report ) getting error message

have added name to Sql server , users cannot access the report, getting error message ,
I have give all the permission to this users, so why this users still cannot look at the report,
    and getting error message,
An error has occurred during report processing.
cannot create a connection to data source Ax live
for more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine or enable remote errors.
can some please help me what this message means,
    I really appreciate it
    thanks In advance

If "Credentials supplied by the user running the report" is selected, when the report is run, the user will be prompted to provide credentials.  They would need to provide credentials that have the appropriate permissions (e.g., read, execute) to the
database.  This prevents the double hop.
If "Credentials stored securely in the report server" is selected, you have to enter the username and password of a user (or service account) that has the appropriate permissions (e.g., read, execute) to the database. When the report is run, SSRS will use
these stored credentials each time to authenticate to the database engine and query the data.  Users running the report are not prompted to provide credentials.  With this option you can use an Active Directory or SQL Server account.
In order to access/run the report, a user will need to authenticate to SSRS.  There are options here as well. You can provide them the link to the report manager and they can authenticate, navigate to, and run the report.  You can also provide
direct links to reports that users click in a document or application.  At this point the user is typically still prompted to authenticate to SSRS.  You can also programmatically call the report using API's and essentially build a proxy that authenticates
to SSRS and open the report.
Not sure if that answers your question.
