2009 Aluminum Keyboard caps lock light not functioning

Greetings:
I bought my wireless keyboard in February 2010 and it works but lately the caps lock light has not been coming on when I hit the caps lock key. I took it to a local Apple Specialist to try to figure out what is going on and it of course worked when he paired it to his machine.
I got it back home and re-paired it to my mini (2009 2.25 mhz intel) and it worked for the day... now it is not functioning again. I unpaired the keyboard and re-paired it again and the light functions again for the time being. But if it holds to pattern, tomorrow it will be non-functioning again.
I have the latest update for the keyboard installed and I am at Snow Leopard 10.6.3 on the system.
It appears that if the keyboard goes to sleep, this phenomenon happens. Any ideas?

I think that re-pairing the keyboard does essentially the same thing as restarting the machine would do with regards to resetting the keyboard. I did replace the batteries today just to see if that would help. -- so far, the light is working still and the keyboard has been asleep for a couple of hours since I replaced the batteries. They showed 81% when I replaced them this morning.
I would like to know if this is a common problem. The keyboard always works, just the caps lock light stops working which is annoying for me because I tend to hit it by accident and the light is a good way to see that I did, in fact, hit the key.
I am marking the question as answered, but hopefully someone has a real fix for it, or Apple has a new firmware update coming soon

  • Wireless keyboard caps lock light not working

Hey, said it all in the title but here's the story...
Got home today and realized that the caps lock LED don't light up anymore. Has anyone else had similar problems? If so, how was your situation rectified?
The keyboard still works fine, don't think its a bad enough problem to have it replaced or be without it for ages. Could see if apple will allow a straight swap at the shop...

    Hi Guys
Glad I've just found these posts. Got a new 27" iMac just before Christmas. Greatly relieved that everything worked despite all the reports of cracked screens, etc. BUT - only small problem was the Caps Lock light not always coming on. Rang Apple and got a replacement. Now today I'm having same problems - first the light froze and wouldn't go off. Then it wouldn't come on. I've now tried your advice of switching off the keyboard and taking out the batteries. Works OK now. Hopefuly it'll stay that way. Only thing is - pity Apple couldn't have given me that advice. Reading these posts, there is clearly an ongoing problem with the caps lock light on the wireless keyboard. A problem thats been around for months. Clearly Apple's poilicy, as always, is to admit nothing until it comes up with a fix. Pity that policy appears to extend to not even telling their own employees that there is a problem ...

  • Wireless keyboard caps lock issue (not LED related)

i just bought an iMac last week and I'm having a weird issue with caps locks. It seems like that particular key needs to be pressed harder than the rest of the keys to register a keystroke. If I hit it lightly, the key will depress but the keystroke won't register and the LED light won't come on. Any other key, even if I hit it very lightly, as long as it was pressed down, the keystroke is registered,
I found the right amount of force where I can press it down like 10 times and it won't register the keystrokes at all. When I'm typing fast, I'll have to go back to capitalize almost 80% of the letter that need capitalizing even though I hit the caps lock key while I was typing. All the "I"s, the first letters of every sentence and the first letters of proper names.
I've had plenty of keyboards, some wireless and I've never had this issue, nor have I had it on my Macbook. I'm just wondering if this is how it was designed to work or if I have a faulty keyboard that I need to go and replace.

  • Caps lock light not working properly

My Laptop caps lock is not working properly , when i press it , the light just flashes and dissappear , the light is suppose to stay there , the things that i type will still be in caps though , any idea how this happens?

    Hey,
Sorry to hear about the keyboard problem.
In a post a while back had this to say.  He makes a suggestion that the keyboard might need to be replaced, then the person with the question tried something else.  You might take a look and see if there's something there that will help.
Thanks for coming to the forum.
    Hope I helped,

  • Apple wireless keyboard caps lock light wont turn off

I have an apple wireless keyboard that came with my 2011 imac and up untill last month the caps lock light wont turn off even when i turn caps lock off and its draining my battery. usually the keyboard will turn off whenever the computer was off but now i have to turn the whole keyboard off everytime im not using it to save battery.

It is probably faulty.  If you are close to one, I suggest you take it to an Apple store for diagnosis.

  • TS1381 wired keyboard: caps lock light on, but keys unresponsive

I have an extended, wired (not wireless) keyboard, and the caps lock light stays lit up, but all keys are unresponsive. Is the keyboard dead?

Hi, how did you resolve this. I have the exact same issue!

  • BT Keyboard Caps Lock Light

Under iOS 7, the Caps Lock light on the Apple BT keyboard no longer works. Pairing it with an iOS 6 device makes it work again. What did Apple do to break this?

It's a compatability issue with the new iOS.  The Apple Wireless Keyboard isn't actually made for iOS devices, but the compatability was added later early in iOS 6.  It's not officially supported which is probably why it wasn't included in the initial rollout, but it's likely something they'll fix once they have all the security/performance bugs worked out.

  • Wireless keyboard caps lock light goes out

I recently got an Apple Wireless Keyboard along with my new iMac. It seems that after a few days, the caps lock light stops coming on when it should. If i restart, the functionality comes back. Is that a software bug or a bluetooth bug, or neither? Anyone else noticing this problem?

You've posted this in the "Older Hardware Products" forum which mostly involves pre-G4 and the pre-wireless era stuff. I can't see an immediate alternative forum but I can't help think there must be a better one than this. On the other hand somebody with bluetooth, airport extreme, Intel Mac, and Leopard may wander through this museum someday and reply to your post.
Knowing nothing about wireless my question is does it lose the functionality or is it just the light going out? Weak battery (I suppose it must have a battery)?

  • Caps lock light not working, can't tell if it was after upgrade or just use

Has anybody else experienced this?: My Powerbook G4's caps lock light doesn't lit anymore.
Was it because of the ugprade from Tiger 10.4.10 to Leopard 10.5.0?
    Anybody?

Geez, it's working again... I think there is some type of malfunction when waking it up from sleep.

  • Apple Wireless Keyboard Caps Lock light doesn't turn off

    Hello
Recently the caps lock button light doesn't turn off on my apple wireless keyboard. Anybody know how to turn it off. Every time i press a key, the light dims a little, but when not pressed, its fully on. I tried resetting it, taking the batteries off, unpairing it. But nothing =(
    hmmm

This doesn't turn off your light, but you should check out CapSee on Apple's downloads page. (www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/systemdiskutilities/capsee.html) It puts a notification pane (or bezel) on the screen letting you know when you turn caps lock on and off. Looks just like the volume and brightness bezels. Very slick, and it's free.

  • Caps Lock light not lighting up?

Hi, my new MacBook Air's caps lock key is not lighting up, what can I do to fix the problem?
P.S My nearest Apple Store is 70 Miles away.

    Hello Willza3,
I would be concerned too if one of the keys on my keyboard was not working.  I found an article that can assist with isolating and troubleshooting issues with the built in keyboard.  I recommend following the steps under the section titled, "Some keys don't work as expected" in the following article:
One or more keys on the keyboard do not respond

  • Caps lock light not glowing

Hi, I have Compaq Presario V6810ei, with Windows Vista Home Premium(32 bit). The problem is LED of Numlock is not glowing whereas it's showing numlock status at right-bottom of screen and Caps Lock is working perfectly(just Caps lock LED/Light is not working). It happened w/o any OS crash or anything else. I don't know where is the issue my laptop's BIOS is upto-date. Please guide me how to resolve this issue. Thanks in advance!

I have the same problem and I think it started when I downloaded the SP2 for the Windows Vista. So probably it is not a problem of the laptop. I have an HP Pavilion dv9500 notebook PC.

  • My wireless keyboard is faulty. The CAPS lock light is permanently on and the other keys do not take any input. I have changed batteries, cleaned contacts etc. I cant even log on to the computer as its either caps locked or no input

Wireles Keyboard issue. CAPS lock light permanently on, when it goes off i cant input anything using keyboard

Begin by resetting the SMC and PRAM each at least 2x. If that won't work book an appointment at your local Apple Store or AASP. However before doing so, after  you have done the resets (assuming they do not work) test another keyboard to determine if it's the keyboard or computer.

My Macbook built-in keyboard has stopped responding, (even caps lock light does not come on). What can I do as cannot even login to computer?
There has been no spillage and it has not been dropped.

Do you have access to a USB wired Apple (or maybe even a PC) keyboard?
That may be used to help troubleshoot the internal keyboard and on startup
be able to access (or see if you can) the System, and attempt to see about
troubleshooting. See if it will start in SafeBoot, (shift key held down just after
startup tone, if it runs in safeboot, then login to see if you can read system
logs in Console) and another idea may be to attempt to start in Recovery &
then attempt to use OS X Utilities there to see if you can verify and then to
repair the hard disk drive, and do some checks on the hardware.

Was the computer an Apple official refurbished unit bought direct from Apple?
Did you get an extended warranty from Apple - if it were directly bought there?
Usually these are online purchases from Apple Store; other companies offer
repaired or restored used computers and call them 'refurbished' or they may
have bought actual refurbished from Apple stock; these may be resold on ebay
or via amazon, and may or may not have a residual warranty of some kind.
In some cases the keyboard may fail due to some connection on the logic board
not fitting correctly, or some other loose wire; however if the battery may have
swollen, that could contribute to issues with both trackpad and keyboard.
A visit to an authorized Apple service provider is recommended, or contact the
seller you bought yours from to ask if they may offer suggestions or perhaps a
discount on diagnostic + repair if there is no warranty on the product.
Find an Apple Authorized Service Provider
    Visit an Apple Retail Store
https://locate.apple.com/country - locate authorized sales, service, by country.
Without more information, you may have to look into your local consumer
protection laws to see if your area may allow you more than others when
it comes to problems with electronics. If in the EU or UK, it may be longer.
You could contact a nearby Apple Store with Genius bar for advice...
    Good luck & happy computing!
