21.0 Instant crash with hardware acceleration

This started happening yesterday. Everything was fine the night before, wife came down and said it wouldn't open.
I've tried uninstalling multiple times, but the only way I can get it to not open without being in safe mode is to disable hardware acceleration.
Here's the most recent crash reports (saw this was asked for on a similar problem)

Setting those 2 gfx pref's to false fixed it. Thank you.

  • With hardware acceleration enabled, and with plenty of tabs open, using the Windows 7 taskbar preview option will almost always crashed the nVidia display driver.

    Latest Firefox 4 beta 6.
    nVidia GT240 1GB DDR3 with driver version 258.96.
    Windows 7 Ultimate.
    If I have plenty of tabs opened, in Firefox 4 beta 6 with hardware acceleration enabled, using the Windows 7 Taskbar preview feature (that will show all the tabs Firefox has loaded) will cause the Nvidia display driver to crash. When this happen, the GUI part of Firefox will be unusable and has to be killed via Task Manager.
    This doesn't happen if hardware acceleration is disabled.

    It is beta software and the older 4.0 b6 version may not work with all display drivers.

  • Flash player hanging with hardware acceleration enabled

    I'm having the following problem: The Flash player is working fine for some apparently random period of time, then it hangs when it is starting up in order to display a video.  This appears to happen only when hardware acceleration is enabled.  (I have not noticed any problems with hardware acceleration disabled, but I only discovered 24 hours ago that this helped.).  The hang happens under all web browsers (Firefox reports that the Flash player crashed, but it is actually hung on start up, not crashed).  After a hang occurs, trying to view any other Flash video also hangs, and all other programs that attempt to access the video card like Windows Media Player also hang.  The only way to reset things and get video working again is to reboot the machine.
    I suspect the problem is either the Flash player or the machine's graphics driver.  I'm running Flash Player WIN 10,1,53,64 under Windows 7 64 on an Intel Core i5 machine with Intel GMA HD graphics, driver version 8.15.10.2025.
    BTW, is there anyway to permanently disable Flash's use of hardware acceleration? (if I disable, the setting doesn't seem to want to stay)

    Thanks.  The computer is a Lenovo Thinkpad T510.  Intel's utility reports:

  • Color management for flash player with hardware acceleration

    I have tested the color management for flash player 10.2 with and without hardware acceleration (GPU) on different PCs with different video cards.
    Videos that are played via flash without hardware acceleration on PC have proper color as designed in After Effects.
    When I switch on hardware acceleration, the color shifts, for example green becomes lighter, although grey values are OK. I have tried this by writing a  small Flash programme for playing a movie; I wrote two programmes one with color management as described in the article "Color correction in Flash Player" http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/quickstart/color_correction_as3.html and another one without color management. In both cases I got the same color shift when hardware acceleration was turned on. From the result I concluded that color management does not work when hardware acceleration is on.
    My question is: are there any plans to have color management for flash player with hardware acceleration (GPU) in the near future?
    We need to play complex high definition movies streaming through a high speed local area network that need hardware acceleration to avoid stuttering.

    Hi, LOL at my screen moniker. That's interesting that the FF beta has an Option for that. The only problem, is that I have heard that each browser must UNcheck the H.A. I'm sure you'll find out.
    Hope that works at least for FF. Let me know if you have time.
    I've been checking out Apple TV and Google TV. Just saved the links and some info, haven't had time to go further. I'd prefer Apple TV over Google tho.
    I have a 55" HD Sony/Blu-ray Surround Sound Speakers, etc. I hooked up the VGA cable for Internet, and WOW on the Screen/Monitor!! Now I'm thinking about the iPhone 4 with VZ too, on their pre-order list for 2/3/11!
    Hard to keep up with the Technology, moving faster today for some reason.
    We are under the Snow & Ice warning, getting it now. Hope I don't lose power! If so, I'll be offline for sure.
    If I find anything on that H.A. for IE, I'll let you know.
    Thanks,

  • Problems with hardware acceleration

    Hallo
    I have big problems with hardware acceleration in flash player. What complicates the problem is my laptops manufacter note here:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-69684
    so I'm accualy confused - is my laptop defected or the source of the problem is in flash player engine.
    In to to point: I can't play some videos, because my video adapter/driver is restarted during watching and after it happens - flash plugin doesn't work anymore (until browser is restarted).
    I have flash player in version: 10.2.154.25
    Nvidia driver: 260.99 (with newest situations is not much better, I tried newest WHQL certified driver but I didn't work perfectly)
    Hardware: Lenovo ThinkPad T61, core2duo 2.1Ghz, 3GB RAM, NVIDIA Quadro 140M NVS.
    And here's video showing my laptops behaviour:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrXJCcWV2Sk
    Notice also screen blinking (and audio stuttering) before video adapter is restarted.
    Is it flash fault or hardware is defected?

    I got my laptop with replaced systemboard today.
    Unfortunately the problem is still present. In the meantime there was Flash update released (10.2.159.1 for IE) so I also tried to install newest version - but it didn't help.
    Having systemboard replaced, flash updated I still have screen blinking, video adapter restarting and NOT smooth playback using hardware acceleration.

  • New Flash Plugin update with hardware acceleration freezes Youtube videos

    Hello, two days ago i got a prompt for a new flash plugin update, saying that now it was able to use hardware acceleration on MAC too. I did the update but i noticed that with hardware acceleration enabled, any youtube video i see, safari freezes. Seems like it's loading continuously (even if the progress bar of the video is already red). But as soon as i disable hardware acceleration, all goes back as normal, no freeze. What's the problem? Using the last safari version.

    HI,
    There's an article here you might want to read.

  • Flash Player crashes instantly, cannot disable hardware acceleration - Ubuntu 11.10 Acer Aspire One

    Ubuntu 11.10 32 bit
    Firefox 10.0.2 32 bit
    Flash 11.1 r102
    I have a Acer Aspire One netbook
    As soon I hit "play" on a flash movie, flash player crashes
    I have tried to disable hardware acceleration to eliminate that possibility, but the check box does not respond to input
    I read that the flash player system controls do not respond when there are scrollbars around the screen (as there are on a small netbook screen) so I zoomed out to get rid of the scrollbars, but the systems setting menu is still unresponsive when I try to disable hardware acceleration

    Thanks Carl, but as I mentioned:
    >I have tried to disable hardware acceleration to eliminate that possibility, but the check box does not respond to input
    eg. when I right slick on a player, the setting menu opens up, but the "Enable hardware" check box does not respond to a mouse click and remains on  I also tried tabbing around the settings menu and using the return key to select/ de-select but that doesn't work either

  • Problem with hardware acceleration on HBO GO

    I just got a Zotac ZBOX AD02 (AMD E-350 APU w/ Radeon HD 6310) and in general it's working great.  However, I  have a problem with Flash video on HBO GO.  For the first minute or so  of steaming video, everything seems perfect.  Video is high quality and  smooth, CPU is around 50%.  Then after a minute or two there will always  be some visible video glitch and CPU utilization will jump up to  90-100% and playback becomes extremely choppy.  So I'm guessing Flash  hardware acceleration is working initially, then something happens that  kills the hardware acceleration, and of course the E-350 CPU is not up the  task by itself.
    The really strange thing is that it seems to be specific to HBO GO.  I  can stream HD all day long from Amazon Instant Video and Youtube (at least when Youtube is able  to dish it out fast enough).  And it's definitely not a bandwidth  problem.  I have Comcast cable (20Mb down), and a bigger computer I have hooked up  to another TV  has no problem with HBO GO.  I think the same problem happens on the bigger computer, but it's faster CPU can overcome the lack of hardware acceleration.
    I've got the latest drivers from AMD and the latest Flash player (even  tried the 11 beta) and have tried all the main browsers (FF, IE, Chrome), but it's always  the same: 1-2 minutes of perfect playback and moderate CPU utilization,  then jacked up CPU and choppy playback.
    Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any way to contact HBO GO directly about this problem (support links just refer you to your cable provider), so I thought I'd give it a shot here. Is anyone else out there having this problem with HBO GO or any other  Flash video sites?  Any thoughts on what else I could do to track down the  root cause?

    Well, my idea with 10.x on IE didn't really work.  Results were not nearly as good as in Firefox, and I'm not willing to use 10.x in my main browser.
    However, based on your insight on the wmode=transparent issue, I started playing around with a Greasemonkey script to force wmode=direct, and I think it actually works.  I haven't been able to try it at home yet on the problem PC, but here on my work PC (don't tell anyone I'm not actually working) it makes a massive difference in CPU utilization.  Without the script CPU is around 80-90% during video playback.  When I enable the script it drops to around 20%.  The only issue is that I usually have to refresh the page once video playback starts to get wmode=direct to take effect (start video playback, then once the video playback page loads, hit refresh in the browser).
    My script is just a modified version of this one I found:
    http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/67260
    Here's my modified Greasemonkey script (hopefully the forum will allow javascript in posts):
    // ==UserScript==
    // @name           Force flash wmode direct on HBO GO
    // @namespace      http://userscripts.org/topics/3090#posts-11620
    // @description    Force flash video playback on HBO GO to use wmode direct to allow hardware acceleration

    // @grant          none
    // ==/UserScript==

        nodeInserted();
    document.addEventListener("DOMNodeInserted", nodeInserted, false);
    function nodeInserted()
        for (var objs = document.getElementsByTagName("object"), i = 0, obj; obj = objs[i]; i++)
            if (obj.type == 'application/x-shockwave-flash')
                var skip = false;
                for (var params = obj.getElementsByTagName("param"), j = 0, param; param = params[j]; j++)
                    if (param.getAttribute("name") == "wmode")
                        skip = true;
                        param.setAttribute("value", "direct");
                        break;
                if(skip) continue;
                var param = document.createElement("param");
                param.setAttribute("name", "wmode");
                param.setAttribute("value", "direct");
                obj.appendChild(param);

  • Linux Flash Player woes with hardware acceleration

    I am trying to get hardware accelerated Youtube video on my Ubuntu 10.04 box. There is nothing unusual about the hardware: Intel C2D, 945G chipset, and nVidia GT210 graphics. (also tried 9600GT and GT440 without success). The OS, nVidia driver, and libvdpau have been kept up-to-date thru Update Manager and Synaptic . But among Flash Player 10.3, 11.0, 11.1, and 11.2 beta that I have tried, none can work consistently with video rendering and video decoding enabled by having "EnableLinuxHWVideodecode=1" to /etc/adobe/mms.cfg. It doesn't matter which version of Firefox I use, or whether the libflashplayer.so is placed in local plugins directory or global.
    - Flash Player 10.3 is perfect until it reaches the end of the clip. Click on Replay at that time, the player rewinds and starts to play. But there is only audio. The video window becomes solid black.
    - Flash Player 11.0 and 11.1 have no accelerated video rendering until I go full screen. Once with accelerated rendering, they have the same problem with replay as 10.3.
    - Flash Player 11.2 beta crashes frequently when I switch video size from the default 360p to something else, or change player mode from default small player to full screen.
    11.2 beta seems to be free from the replay issue. But I cannot try enough videos to be certain because usualy it crashes before reaching the end of clips. As 10.3, 11.0, and maybe even 11.1 are already legacy, my only hope is Adobe can make the 11.2 stable for Linux before it is locked down for release. Am I alone on this or there are other Linux users out there having similar problems?
    Thanks

    Hi Alex1113,
    Thanks for your reply and filing of bug 3077372. I searched the BugBase and found another recent report (https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3075575) on 11.2_p3 crash. It happens when switching to "Larger Player" video size. Since I have seen both types of problems, I voted for both ID 3077372 and 3075575 with comments instead of filing duplicated reports.
    To others,
    The crash seems to be rather gneric. So far it has been reported for Fedora 14, Ubuntu 10.04, Ubuntu 11.10, 32-bit, and 64-bit. I believe it should happen to other configurations with both hardware render and decoding enabled. Please add your votes to raise the priorities of those bugs. Hopefully we will draw enough attention to have them fixed in the next beta.
    Thanks,
    Franklin

  • Cs5 compatible laptop video cards with hardware acceleration

    Is there a list or does anyone know of laptops with compatible video cards for cs5 hardware acceleration? This would be for a windows 7 64bit system.'
    Thanks!

    its not so much a space issue as a power issue, but space is a concern too. I suppose I was looking for a list of laptop compatible cs5 cards. I know that there are cards out there that are and it would be wonderful if adobe compiled a list like they have for standard video cards. And yes you are right, a lot of the video cards listed on that page also have mobile counterparts but are not always compatible since they use different drivers.
    Does anyone have laptop experience with getting full hardware acceleration support?
    Thanks.

  • Jittery Flash video on MacBook Pro (2011) with hardware acceleration

    When I use hardware acceleration the video either has artifacts or is too jittery to watch, disabling hardware acceleration fixes everything. I'm not sure if this is  a flash bug, or perhaps a hardware problem on my MBP.
    e.g. Here's what the video looks like: http://db.tt/Nq1omoX
    Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-14610722
    OS X Lion (10.7.1)
    AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024MB
    Flash 10.3.183.5

    Any ideas?

  • Premiere-CC Poor Quality Logos on export with Hardware Acceleration.

    This is an old and new issue.
    Have an XDCam-HD preset Sequence.  XDcam footage is green screen, layer below is a white background.  Layer above keyed footage is an imported PSD with 2 logos on same layer with transparancy.
    Sequence settings:  MRQ and MRB are checked, and composite in linear color is unchecked.
    Playback resolution and Paused resolution both set to full.
    Using Cuda acceleration in project settings, and all hardware accelerated FX, program plays back perfectly and looks excellent.
    Problem:  While Cuda acceleration is enabled, when the playhead is paused, or stopped, logos look terrible.  The alpha looks like it has noise in it.  However, when you hit play, everything looks good.
    Supers created in the Titler are not affected and look fine.
    If you render the seqence for preview, logos render with terrible result, as if paused.  Also, on export you get the same bad looking logos.
    If you disable hardware acceleration, all is well.
    Any thoughts?

    If you care to upload the PSD, I can check it on my end.

  • Video conversion with hardware acceleration?

    So I just got a macbook pro, and I am use to windows and hardware accelration when it comes to video converting, Nvidia Cuda and Intel QuickSync. I can't seem to find anything like the sort for Mac OSX no matter how much I look. Does anyone here know of software that supports AMD's equivilent of Cuda or Intel's QuickSync for fast conversions?

  • Blurry text with hardware acceleration enabled.

    Hi, Firefox folks.
    My text (and edges of tabs) were blurry in Firefox 4.0.1 (32-bit), running on Windows 7 64-bit, with a Radeon HD 6670 with latest drivers: Catalyst 11.5, May 9, 2011. (I have no text problems at all with the latest Chrome or Internet Explorer 9.)
    The problem immediately disappeared when I went to Firefox's Tools menu --> Options --> Advanced tab --> General subtab, and unchecked "Use hardware acceleration when available."
    [I've edited out a "tip" of mine that I thought was working, but actually wasn't.]
    I don't know how this will affect Firefox's speed, but at least I can properly read the text now.
    I didn't have to disable Firefox 4.0.1 hardware acceleration with my old NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT (which I was using on the same PC a few days ago), so this might be (at least partly) an AMD/ATI problem; I've notified them about this already.
    So, either AMD/ATI needs to issue a patch, or Mozilla does, or both. Just thought you should know. Thanks for your time.

  • Video Green in Win8 with Hardware Acceleration enabled

    Hi, I need to be able to disable hardware acceleration in flash player in Windows 8. I managed to do this in the past, however after reinstallation this time I have been unsuccessful.
    Last time, I somehow managed downgrade to a earlier version which reinstated the disable acceleration tab in the flash player settings as the IE11 overall use software setting does not apply to flash player. I can see this from the debug code on videos.
    &decoding=accelerated
    Where as in Chrome, this says &decoding=software
    Any tips pleassssee?

    Hi Jeromie,
    I ended up solving this.
    1. Turns out it was being caused because I am using a patch driver to allow 120hz. http://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-AMD-ATI-Pixel-Clock-Patcher
    2. Was not allowing me to disable in Win8.1 ~ however now it does. IE11 is now allowing me to run software mode which has fixed all the green video issues caused by the patcher from above.
    I am not sure why before IE11 would just not take any notice of the use software mode setting. Maybe there has been an update, in the end I changed and tried so many different combinations I can't really pinpoint exactly what got it to work!!
