24" display/Graphic card

Would an ATI 9000 Pro (64 MB) and a GEForce4 MX (32 MB) be able to handle a 24" LCD?

Hi-
Either will support 1920 x 1200 resolution.
What's the optimal resolution of the 24" monitor?
If 1920 x 1200, then Yes.

  • 30" Cinema display graphics card recommendation

Pathetic apple customer service refused to supply me with a recommendation since my G5 is out of warrantee date. So perhaps this forum can help. I have a Dual 2GHz Power PC G5 running 10.4.10 with a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro card. This will only go to 1280 x 800; I need 1280 x 1600.
    Data:
I do mostly photo work and scientific processing- almost no video
I will not add a second monitor
    Recommendations please?
    many thanks in advance...

btw, I bought two of these monitors, one for home and one for the office. Having spent almost $4K , how can apple refuse to speak with a customer unless he pays for support?

The AGP cards Apple sold that have dual-link DVI ports needed for 30" are:
ATI Radeon 9650 XT (one single-link, one dual-link DVI)
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT DDL (two dual-link DVI)
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL (two dual-link DVI)

  • Macbook pro A1286 display/graphic card issue

    Hello,
I have a macbook pro model no A1286 that started having issues a few days ago:
    1) first symptome, in Chrome when using youtube or other flash/graphics intensive tools the imagine would break into 2, leaving the pointer movable, but nothing else worked, so restart was necessary. After installing Firefox, the issue continued, but with no reason. Finally, i upgraded to OS 10.8 and for some days it looked fine.
    2) just a few hours ago, when starting the mac, the loading looked crazy, partly green, partly purple, and once the loader finished, it either gave me a white screen for minutes and then shut down, or simply shutdown after 1-2minutes.
Has anyone seen this issue before ? Any comments, suggestions ?
    Thank you!

OK, it's likely an Early or Late 2011 model, then. There is a long thread here -> https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4766577?tstart=210 - about problems with the 2011 (mostly, but not always, on the Early 2011 models) about problems with the discrete GPU (which would kick in whenever you launch Chrome).
Really the only thing that you can do is to take your machine into your local Apple Store or AASP and have them diagnose the problem and get an estimate for repair.
Just be aware that the problem usually just continues to get worse and that a logic board replacement doesn't always 'fix' the problem. Many users report going through 3-4 logic boards and still having the problem. The only 'real' solution seems to be having the GPU 'BGA reballed' - which isn't as expensive as a new logic board.
So have your machine diagnosed and if it comes up with a faulty GPU (which it probably will) think about having it reballed to actually fix the problem, rather than having the logic board replaced.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Moisture or Humid weather can affect my display / graphic card?

I did not use my macbook for 2 days (I left it in sleep mode). its been raining here for 2 days straight (Humid Summer in Seoul, Korea maybe more than 80 humidity). Yesterday night, the weather was too humid, a paper homework assign that I left on my desk for 3 hours was almost wet of absorbing humidity (like when you dry a paper who had a few drops or water before).
When I woke up my mac, the screen was distorted, with a mosaic-like square lines acroos the display. I restarted it several times and nothing. I couldnt access to my computer at all, because the distortion affected the computer since the booting stage.
Today I went to a friends house and tried to check the hardware with the diagnostics tool. After a few failed attempts, the computer spitted out my disk, restarted and the distortion problem was gone.
Since then, my mac is working as nothing happened. I still need to know why this happen and I just can blame the weather.
    Please advice me.
my mac: macbookpro (late 2006) gen3, unibody (aluminium). Display, 15" Ati x1600 256mb.

    Hi g,
The X1600 GPU in that model has had more than a few issues, and it's five years old now. It could be on the way out, perhaps aided in this situation by the humidity. Enough humidity can affect any circuitry.
Did you run Apple Hardware Test? That may be about the best you can do. "Repairing" a GPU means replacing the logic board.

  • How do I use the secondary graphics card on a mac book pro with retina display?

I know that this is kind of a stupid question but I am new to dual graphics cards and this is the first mac that I have ever had, so I don't understand how you use the 2nd graphics card. When I click on the apple logo and go to about it shows the Intel Graphics HD 4000, but I know that they put an Nvida in here to so how do I access that? Because it has a lot more graphic power than the intel does.

Try opening iPhoto and then consulting the More Info... item. That app will cause an autoswitch to the big GPU.
Same will happen with any other app that requires that kind of display driving power.

I bought a 3rd 27" Apple LED Cinema Display refurbished from Apple and i need a 2sd graphic card
My Mac already have 2x Apple LED Cinema Display connected with the Mini DisplayPort and working fine
The graphic card is an ATI RADEON HD5770 1024mb
i bought a new ATI RADEON HD5870 1024mb "mac firmware" and that card doesn't work on my model
Q: can i buy the exact ATI RADEON HD5770 1024mb and put on the side and plug my 3rd display with the Mini DisplayPort ?
    Thank you for your inputs.

If you choose instead to adapt the DVI to your new display, this adapter, US$129, is suggested by the Mac [display] Cable Chooser:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/H5236ZM/A/kanex-c247d-single-link-dvi-to-mini- displayport-converter?fnode=78
    The Mac [display] Cable Chooser:
    http://store.apple.com/us/mac/mac-accessories/cables/cable-chooser
Mac or PC 5770 uses only one of the two aux power cables, so it can be doubled up -- but it is two slots tall, so it will block the slot above, and may not run at full speed when not in slot 1.

  • I need to connect my LED cinema display to nvidia quadro 4000 graphics card

I cant find any adapter to connect my "LED cinema display" to the brand new graphics card "nvidia quadro 4000 (for Mac pro)"
As i coldnt find any information since now, ihope someone can give me a hint.

They included the wrong DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort adapter.  The correct adapter should have a female Mini DisplayPort connector, not male.  You could buy the correct adapter or you could add a F-F Mini DisplayPort coupler

Try calling the, and asking for the correct adapter.  They fo say:
"Connect to mini-DisplayPort displays through the included adapter cable"

  • 3 displays from a G5 (is installing 2 graphics cards an option?)

    Hi there,
I'm trying to set up 3 displays from my G5 with an ATI Radeon 9600 XT. Ideally two are to be mirrored and one independant. I have two 23" Cinema Displays and a cheap Philips 190CW on which I'm trying to mirror one of the Apples. I bought a 1 x 4 DVI splitter (on ebay from Taiwan) which doesn't seem to work.
My regular 2 monitor set-up which has worked perfectly is to run one Cinema Display from the ADC output on the graphics card via an ADC to DVI converter and the other from the DVI on the card. So I thought I could simply run the DVI output into this splitter and run the extra monitor from one of the outs as well as the second Cinema Display giving me the mirroring on two. But all I get is the ADC connected Cinema Display and one or the other of the DVI connected monitors - not a split.
The splitter is supposed to support 4 monitors at 1920 x 1200 but when I connect all three to the splitter it only gives me one!
    I have three questions:
    1) Is it just a a dodgy Splitter?
    2) If so can anyone recomend one that will work or a way to do what I want?
    3) Is it possible to install a second graphics card such as another ATI Radeon 9600 XT and run 3 displays from them?
I'd very much appreciate any suggestions.
    Cheers GR
    G5 2.5 Duel   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   G4 17" Powerbook 167

    Thanks very much.
That does answer my question but doesn't solve my problem...
It seems to be working on all three monitors in that configuration but it doesn't really do what I need in terms of the physical placement of the Apple Displays - I need them to stay together unmirrored and the Philips monitor a few metres away mirroring one of the Apples. (I'd love to get another 23" Apple but it's 5 x the $$$). How slow in everyday terms would it be with an extra graphics card? I'm doing this for a music recording set-up.
    Thanks again for your help.
    Cheers GR

  • Is it possible to upgrade MacBook Pro 15inch iris pro Retina display version to Nvidia graphics card?

    Hi
I purchased a MacBook Pro 15inch iris pro Retina display version (£1599) recently.
Can we upgrade  tit with Nvidia graphics card?

In USA, you can return a Mac within 14 days of purchase and buy a new one with the desired spec.
Retina MacBook Pro cannot be upgraded once bought.

  • APPLE 30" Cinema Display and ATI Graphics Card compatability

    hi all
I have a 2year old APPLE Dual proc G5 PowerMac 2.0mhz (1.5GB Ram) with an ATI graphics Card which is a ATI Radeon 9600XT 128mb ram.
This currently works well dipslaying via a Apple cinema 23" screen. However i would like to upgrade the screen with an Apple 30" display now. Will the current ATI Graphics card support a 30"display or will i need to replace the card on buying a new monitor..
i was looking at potentially a new ATI X1900Xt card.
any experiences and help please ...
    Thanks Paul

Your existing card will not run the 30" at full resolution. The ATI X1900 XT won't fit because it is not AGP.
The fastest AGP card for your G5 is the ATI Radeon X800 Mac edition
    <http://eshop.macsales.com/item/ATI%20Technologies/100435317/>
It has one DVI dual-link port that will run the 30" display, and one ADC port.

  • My next iMac-- which graphics card; which display size?

    Hi all,
I'd like some advice in choosing my next iMac, specifically regarding the graphics card and the display size.
    Graphics Card:
I'm not a gamer nor am I doing any 3D animation. Is there any other reason to upgrade the graphics card? I DO want the best possible video playback (QT movies), but I don't know if the graphics card has any bearing on video playback quality.
    Display size:
Aside from the obvious differences in resolution, do any of the three displays sizes (17,20,24) have any history of being better or more reliable?
Thanks in advance for any tips

Your needs will better dictate which model is best.
Video playback of QuickTine movies will not be affected by upgrading to the 24" with the nVidia chip.
No 3D gaming or animation means no need for a higher end graphics card. In my case, the x1600 ATi in the original Core Duo 20" is more than sufficient for everything I've thrown at it so far including full resolution "Call of Duty".
For your use, you may not need the extra VRAM but I personally would bump it up to 256MB though. Adding an external monitor will split the total VRAM between the two monitors and with Apple continually moving a lot of Mac OS X's graphical features to the GPU, the extra memory may be a blessing.
    Display Size:
I believe that reliability between the three models is pretty much the same.
The advantage to the 24" is, of course, the extra screen real estate and resolution. However The price difference between the 20" and 24" could allow you to go with the 20" model and add an external LCD for a dual screen setup (if space permits).
Weigh your needs - now and the immediate future - and then look at both models in person if possible.

  • FCP 7 Multiple Graphics Cards & 3 Displays

With FCP 7 (Studio 3) has Apple fixed the issue that you can't have multiple graphics cards and more than 2 displays as was the problem with prior versions?

I did the typical; post a question then play around with the problem routine here.
I've found a solution where i put the "playout monitor" on the same card as screen 1. move screen 2 to another card and make the relevant adjustments to the displays arrangement panel so everything is the same layout as before. FCP now plays out to the correct monitor it seems it can't handle sending to other cards.
    i'm running 10.5.8 and FCP 6.0.6

  • Qosmio X300-14P : Graphic card issues and vertical stripes on display

    Hi,
2 days ago, after a long notebook session of many many hours, suddenly after playing for 2 hours the game
Patrician 4 addon, it crashed in a strange and never seen before way:
The display would show strange and weird colours in all forms rushing over ther display. You could not recognize anything anymore, and after a few seconds of this the screen and the x300-14P completely froze/crashed (hung - no reaction on anything except power plug pull and/or 5 seconds push of ther power button).
I was afraid since this to me looked like a serious issue of either graphic card (nvidia chip) or display.
I hoped it was because of heat (though i have a powerful cooling pad below the notebook and heat shouldnt be a problem).
Next day (yesterday) I launched the game immediately after startup, and after a few seconds the same crash appeared again with the same strange video glitches (never saw something strange like that before).
I immediately did the 5 second power button press reset,. and then, when the first boot screen appears (the bios display hint and the loading/booting screen), there were like 2-7 vertical white stripes (on the black background) on the right side of the screen.
They wouldn't move nor go away.
I immediately turned the notebook off and it is off since then.
To me this looks really serious, as if either nvidia chip (Geforce 9800-GTX) is broken or the display.
Does anyone know something about this ?
Has anyone heard of such a problem ?
    Who knows more ?
I know, i can now connect an external monitor.
If there is no problem, this should mean that it is a x300 display problem
If the problem also appears on the external monitor, it is the nvidia gpu chip. That would be at least my guess.
Has anyone any idea about this, what it might be and what i could do ?
(i am afraid sending the x300 in to toshiba for fixing is not worth it, as it is pretty old
(it was purchased new in june 2009). fixing it is probably too expensive.
Any ideas about hthis problem ?
    I never had it before.
    Who can help ?
    Thanks
    P.S:
I was thinlking about buying the new qosmio X870, but i just saw it has no express card slot, which i need for various expansion modules (like tv and video equipment, more e-sata cards etc.pp.).
Without an express card slot i wouldn't buy any notebook, i need this slot urgently (it is like a pci-express card connection slot in a desktop pc).
To me the express card slot is vital.
Too bad many notebooks dont have it anymore.
So io might need my x300 for some time,
but what shoudl i do abpout this new strange video chip/display problem ?

    Hi,
    yes.
even windows has now deactivated the whole graphic card, saying it was deactivated because
it reported an error - CODE 43 .
the stripes are still there at boot screen and bios screen, they go away though as soon as windows loads,
but this has deacvtivated the nvidia chip (the nvidia device driver software wouldnt start at all, it says : no nvidia gpu connected (since it was deactivated by windows 7)).
looks like i have to send the x300 to toshiba for repair (maybe even mainboard replacement).
who knows how i can find the local toshiba repair company ?
    whom can i call in
    FRANKFURT AM MAIN
    GERMANY
to get my toshiba notebook repaired ?
if someone has the adress and even better telephone nummber, i would be happy.
a second question, by the way :
did someone of you ever replace the mainboard in a toshiba X300 / X305 ?
    how expensive was that ?
    thanks

  • Loss of visual display wen changing graphics card

I want to change my graphic card on my dual 500 G4 (currently running on 10.4.11), however I am concerned that once the old card is out I will loose all visual display and therefore will not be abe to follow on-screen instructions when installing the new Driver. Is this a real problem? if so, how do I carry out this procedure?

I have installed cards whose instructions called for installing the new drivers before installing the new card. If your new card falls into that category, no problem.
If drivers need to be installed AFTER the new card is in place, I don't think there will be a problem either. OSX has pre-installed drivers for most cards already; they aren;t the newest but are usually functional. Even without drivers, most cards allow the pass-through of 2D video. Example: new drivers no longer provide graphics acceleration under OS9 any more, but the computer has usable 2D video in OS9. I think you will have no trouble with on-screen assistance.
For what its worth, this is the forum for the very late PowerMac G4s, the "Mirrored Drive Doors" model and the FireWire800. The older G4s get a separate forum here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=113
You can get help either place, though. The forum software doesn't make it obvious that the other forum is for the early models,
