24" display versus 27"

I have a macbook pro from 2009. I am looking to purchase a monitor and can't decide between getting a used LED Cinema Display 24 inch LCD and a new LED Cinema Display (27" flat panel).
1. Besides the size (and price) what are the differences as far as connectivity ( I would like the fewest connections) and since my macbook pro is older would I need any additional adapter's?
2. How do the 2 displays compare as far as screen quality?
3. Is there anything else I should think about in compering the 2?

If your MacBook Pro has a DVI connector you will need a DVI to MiniDisplayPort converter.
A single-link converter can handle only the 24" display

A dual-link one can handle either display

  • Dual Cinema Displays - Worth it?

    Greetings to all!
    I just wanted to ask about the general opinion of the Apple Cinema Displays versus some other various Widescreen LCD's out there at the moment.
    I'd like to run a pair of 20 Inch units off a Quad G5, however, I'm looking at the specs for the Cinema Display, and they don't appear to be too impressive (14ms Response time?) for a $999 Monitor.
    For reference, I'm also considering the Viewsonic VX2505WM and the Acer AL2016W.
    I'm not sure what I'm missing- but specs wise, ether of these units appear to be better then the Cinema Display, for less-then-half of the price ($350/Unit, versus $999/Unit). Better Contrast Ratio, lower Response Times, higher brightness, etc.
    Am I missing something (other then the Aluminum enclosure- and the fact that it's an Apple product), or are there truely better monitors out there then the Apple Cinema 20" unit?
    Thanks!
    SC

    I needed more real estate for a project recently, so I pulled the 20" acd from each of my minis and combined them on a G5 instead of the 23" - wow can't believe I didn’t do this sooner- the display’s DPI has always been crisper to my eye on the 20's and together they make a great space for design and digital imaging. I was going to buy another 23" but given the dual 20" scratched that for a few bucks more I’ll get 2 20” acd’s. To those that use "cheaper" monitors you must not do any critical color work or use them in an environment without an apple display- I just sold my Dell 2405 24" because (in my subjective opinion) I couldn't stand looking at it anymore compared to the rest of my apple display based systems -and yes it was calibrated and used on the same dual 2.7 G5 configurations with the same getrag eye I use on the rest of my monitors. Dells and such are fine for basic computing, but cheap is cheap. If you buy anything except a high-end lacie eizo or sony don't run it next to an apple display, you’ll be disappointed and of course always have a 21” apple studio display crt to put them all to shame….

  • Question: actual dimensions of PowerBook vs iMac display

    If anyone knows:
    what's the actual dimensions (W x H) of the PowerBook 15.2" display versus the old Flat Panel iMac 15.0" display?
    The 15" Powerbook is listed at 1280x864 and the 15" iMac is listed at 1024x768. The ratio is 1.5 to 1 versus 1.33 to 1.
    Does anyone know the dimensions in inches of the two?

    Yep, thanks! That's what I got.
    I already have the 15" iMac. I was wondering how the 15" Powerbook compared from an aspect ratio difference. A little wider, but a little shorter too.
    Thanks again.

  • Sleep/Display Sleep - Either one seems to interfere with Airport

    If I put the system to "Sleep", or if the Screen Saver is put to sleep; upon awakening, there is a disruption of system wireless/internet connection. What could cause this?

    If you are also using a Screen Saver before the Display Sleep kicks in, try setting the screen saver to Never. Does that have any effect on this wireless network connection issue?
    Also, it may be useful to know if the disconnection happens when the Display Sleep starts, or when it ends. To do this, find some download that will take longer that the Display Sleep time to complete. Start the download and leave it alone. Make sure the download is still happening when Display Sleep starts. Leave it alone, in display sleep mode so that it has more than enough time to complete the download (but before the Computer Sleep setting kicks in). Did the download fail or did it complete?
    Also, does this problem also occur if you manually sleep the display versus the timed (no activity) display sleep? You can manually sleep the display by setting a +Hot Corner+ to +Put Display to Sleep+, in System Preferences +Desktop & Screen Saver+ pane.

  • Multiple columns and rows in MessageService

    I am attempting to create a message (via MessageService) which has multiple lines of data, and each line has multiple data columns.
    Background:  My program reads data from a web store, and creates Sales Orders in SBO.  A single run might process multiple orders.  When all orders have been entered, the program should send a (single) message to a list of recipients.  The message will have one line of data for each sales order produced.  Each line will contain two fields: the linked SBO sales order number, and the unlinked web order number.
    When the message is initially created, I'm defining the multiple columns and initializing the data lines:
    pMessageDataColumns = oMessage.MessageDataColumns
    pMessageDataColumn = pMessageDataColumns.Add()
    pMessageDataColumn.ColumnName = "SalesOrder"
    pMessageDataColumn.Link = BoYesNoEnum.tYES
    pMessageDataColumn = pMessageDataColumns.Add()
    pMessageDataColumn.ColumnName = "WebOrder"
    pMessageDataColumn.Link = BoYesNoEnum.tNO
    oLines = pMessageDataColumn.MessageDataLines()
    Later, as each Sales Order is processed, I'm attempting to inject the two data values into the message data:
    oLine = oLines.Add()
    oLine.Value = Str(pOrd.DocNum)
    oLine.Object = 17
    oLine.ObjectKey = Str(pOrd.DocEntry)
    oLine = oLines.Add()
    oLine.Value = pOrd.WebOrder
    The above code would be invoked for each Sales Order processed.  However, it generates an "Internal error (-5002) occurred" when the message is ultimately sent.
    The SDK documentation states:
    The MessageDataLine is a child data structure related to the MessageDataColumn. It contains the value of a specified cell in the Data table, which is defined by its column number (vtIndex of Item of MessageDataColumns) and row number (vtIndex of Item of MessageDataLines).
    I guess I don't understand the relationship between adding a "line" in my data display versus adding data into a "column".  It appears that the "oLines.Add()" is used to bump across the columns of the data.  If so, how do I advance to the next entire row of data in the message?
    Thanks, Dave

  • How can I determine how long it take the lab view circuit to execute once?

    I'm working on a temperature control labview simulation that works with an external temperature device and I have my labview stimulation set up so that I can turn a external light on or off (which is in a chamber) and the temperature is measured inside that chamber and I displayed versus time in the labview x-y graph. I can internally turn the heat source (the light) on or off and see the waveform change. Now the information that is being displayed on the waveform is also being saved to a data file. And I noticed that as soon as I run the stimulation of the circuit on the first input into the labview while loop is from the data file. now the first execution of the simulation will start as soon as the data files sends an input into the while loop and the second execution of the labview loop will happen the next time the data file inputs something into the while loop of labview. Now, by using circuitry inside the while loop, how can I record the actual time of the initial input (into the while loop) along with the time of the second input into the loop so that I can determine how long it take for one execution in labview will take.

    One thing to keep in mind about the Tick Count VI. It uses the ms clock from the CPU which rolls over back to zero after it reaches an upper limit. You might end up getting very large negative values if you subtract the current value from the last value.
    Once every 39 (?) days that can happen but are you sure abou the large negative thing?

  • Apple vs. Other Brands

    First of all, I am a fairly new (18 months and counting) born-again Apple fan. Now to my question:
    Are there any significant benefits outside of raw performance of having an Apple display versus some other brand (LG, Samsung, etc.)?
    I just got a new MacBook and will be getting my wife one soon. What I want to do is set an external display with a nice, high resolution to remain stationary at a work station. The idea is that either of us could take our MacBook to the station and hook up the external display to do photo or video work, watch a movie, etc.
    I have looked at a few monitors at some big box stores and they look pretty good. They also cost significantly less than the Apple displays. I understand that size and specs need to be accounted for to make a fair comparison, but beyond that, am I getting what I pay for (and paying a premium to have the Apple style and logo)?
    Thanks in advance for your advice?
    MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    It all comes down to what you're using it for.
    Apple displays are known for their ability to produce very accurate colour, and the cinema displays continue this, along with good resolutions and brightness, especially with the 23" and 30" displays. They also look sexy.
    However you can easily find cheaper monitors with better contrast ratios and much better response times. For example, if you played games (which is doubtful with a Mac), the 14ms response time of the Apple displays is horrible, and you'd be better to go with something like a Viewsonic that offers models with as little as 2ms times.
    There are also some Samsung LCD monitors that not only offer contrast rations of 1000:1 or higher, but also include the ablility to rotate the screen 90° for a full page portrait view.
    Since you'd just be using a monitor for recreational purposes, such as movies or just the convenience of a 2nd monitor, you can easily get a non-Apple display that will perform just as well for your needs, at probably half the price.

  • Code for an iframe that sizes the presentation correctly

    Does anyone have code for an iframe that sizes the HTML5 presentation correctly?  We want the presentation to be presented in the specific width and height we set for it.  Interestingly if we open the presentation using a JavaScript window.open or showModalDialog call it sizes correctly to a subset of the screen's width, but if we open it in an iframe it falls off the frame because the way the index.html reads the size of the display versus the iframe.

    I did sign a two year contract and completed that contract. The 3gs is no longer in service. My daughter is going overseas to protect you and your family. I was attempting to find a way for her to have a reliable phone that could offer her some connection with home as she travels through the middle east.  She travels in missions all over.
    At&T unlocks other phones of theirs why not the iPhone?  AT&T says that Apple will not give them the code, it is not the carrier.  If I would have known this situation would have come up I would have bought and unlocked 3gs phone"Deggie" .  My main complaint is that Apple has not good excuse as to why they will not allow their phones to be unlocked from services well, AT&T .  I bought the phone full price, completed the contract terms, even went for and iPhone 4 with another2 year contract, along with owning an apple computer... I love the product.  My main issue is give me a good answer as to why you won't allow a phone to be unlocked. It doesn't hurt Apple, People still have to buy the phones from them, and use their App store and iTunes.
    Sorry, just upset about my daughter heading over there, boots on the ground, and just pray she will be safe. Would have liked to facetime her while she is in the airports and in specific areas allowed for that.
    Please don't come down on me for asking this question. I understand all the contracts etc.... but to single out the iPhone specifically to not unlock after contract is over does not seem fair.
    Thank you for your responses.

  • Can mail be forwarded as an attachment?

    In order to forward SPAM to my ISP I have to forward the spam as an attachment in RFC_822 MIME format. Can this be done with Apple Mail in Tiger? If so, how?
    (It is a simple endeavor in practically every other mail app on the PC, but I cannot seem to figure it out in Mail on the Mac.)

    Buck,
    This comes up routinely in this forum. I do not think there is a difference in forwarding with the Long Headers fully displayed, versus "as an attachment", which Mail does not directly provide for. If sending to only forward, and not for abuse reporting, check you Mail Help for "Forwarding several messages" and the use of the Append Selected Messages function.
    For general background, read the following pasted comments I have made to others:
    As I have read and researched this question, it appears that many email clients do not send the Headers of the messages during forwarding (this style is called Inline Forwarding) unless you specify forwarding as an attachment. Mail is not in this category -- it will send the full message, including Headers depending upon how you have your Mail Preferences set for Composing.
    In Mail, if you click on View in the Menubar, and then Message, and choose Long Headers, the entire Header detail, including any Reply To Header (if present) will open, and if you forward with these headers showing, then the recipient will see them. Further more, if you change your Viewing Preferences to Customize your header view, and then forward the entire message, that detail will accompany the message.
    It is important to check your Preference settings for Compose, and also, are you using Smart addresses or are you showing Name and Address -- this is controlled by clicking on View in the Menubar, and then Addresses, and choosing between Smart Addresses and Show Name and Address.
    Among the sources I have checked for expressing this opinion are:
    http://mailformat.dan.info/quoting/forwarding.html
    http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/decode.htm
    and others.
    A reason sometimes cited in reference to Forwarding as an Attachment, is to send a potentially dangerous message to the abuse desk of your ISP, and not activate any links, etc. I do not believe Mail can perform this, as it is generally thought of. There may be some scripts that accomplish this, but I do not think it is necessary in reporting suspect messages.
    I hope this helps.

  • New MacBook Pro 17"

    When I found out that I can make my life completely wireless (Air Tunes) I was considering buying a MBP 17" I use comp. for everyday stuff music, photos, video, web, programming and so on but not as a pro. Just a lil bit but I like when all those little things work extremely fast. I was also considering iMac Intel 20" w/ 256MB ATI 500GB HDD and 2g of RAM because of 20" display (versus 17" in MBP) but I guess MBP won because it's made of aluminium (I really hate even light scratches) and it also has 17" display which has the resolution of 20" which is good But the question is I heard that this model has a lot of problems and I wanted it to get from the online store (Glossy screen, 7200rpm HDD, and 2GB of RAM) so I won't be able to have a chance to check bad pixels (I don't want even one especially in the middle of the screen) to check any noises or too big temperature. So could you guys tell me what are the typicall problems with this computer???
    Thanks a lot!!!!!

  • How to display waveforms as double precision versus seconds in a chart?

    I need some help with the following:
    I am acquiring several waveforms that I display in charts. I would like to have an option to view data only when I press a button; I would like the new data coming in to append dirrectly to the old data displayed. If I do this with a waveform I cannot append to the old waveform displayed because the points coming is have the time information that will create a gap between old wave and new wave. In simple words is like this: when I turn onn a button data is flowing in my charts until I turn off the button; when I turn on the button again after a time t, the data will flow again on the screen but I will have a gap betweeen the old waveand the new wave of data. The gap is equal with t on the X-axis which displays the time elapsed.
    Question is how can I do such that when I turn the button again the data starts to flow at the point where I left it and not after time t?
    The problem might be saved by getting y from the waveform and displaying it in a chart? How would I set the X-axis to show me "y" (data) versus seconds?
    Anybody has some advice and/or example?
    Thank you

    Its hard to find the space to run wires all the way to the while loop boundary on these sorts of large block diagrams.  It is a little easier to read when you use a feedback node.  Do not forget to have an empty waveform with the correct dt plugged into the initializer terminal.  I don't see anything on the block diagram that would preclude you from using this method.
    There is an "Ignore waveform time stamp on x-axes" setting in the chart properties.  I have never played with it, perhaps it will do what you wish...

  • Cinema Display to a MacBookPro. DVI versus Mini-Port.

    Hello, Wanting to hook up a Cinema Display to a MacBookPro Intel Duo with the DVI port (not Mini-Port. Not Thunderbolt).
    Is there an adapter that converts the DVI config to work with a Cinema Display with a Mini-Port connector or do I need the version of Cinema Display that has the DVI connector?
    Thanks!

    First, HDMI is not limited to any one resolution and as of HDMI 1.3 has an capability of 2560×1600 which I think is higher than the 27" display.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI
    Oh, and obiously, the LED Display can go to lower resoltution.
    Supported resolutions: 2560 by 1440 pixels, 1920 by 1080 pixels, 1280 by 720 pixels
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP597
    And under System preferences, it looks like it will go from 800x600 to 2560x1440.

  • My Firefox system seems to automatically use a town to provide information those automatic banner displays, but it is NOT my town. How do I set or reset this feature to be my hommetown versus another?

    Several different advertisers seem to use an embedded setting to display a map within their banner display, however, it is not my town, but one close by.
    A couple weeks ago, a Firefox window popped up, without my involvement, asking me to verify certain information on it. It seemed to be a 'general settings' window from Firefox and I noticed it had the name of the 'other' town listed in the field labeled "Your Location" (or something close to that), so I changed it to the 'correct' name of my hometown and closed the window properly.
    This action caused no issues (i.e. it wasn't a Trojan virus or anything) and seemed to have cleared up the incorrect banner maps, maybe as I didn't pay too close attention recently. However, today I again noticed the system using the 'other' town's name when displaying those banner map ads.
    How can I set/reset this setting to the name of my correct 'home'town?

    You can automatically save downloads without seeing the Open/Save/Cancel dialog in the Options:
    orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > General > "Saves files to"
    However, I can't think of a way to have the Open/Save/Cancel dialog always default to Save. I think mine suggests whatever I did last for the same type of content, but I haven't paid close attention.
    I'm out of time to address the problem with "do this automatically" but there is one suggestion for why it could be grayed out in this article: [[Change what Firefox does when you click on or download a file]].
    Is it possible you had a download-related extension before? To compare settings and extensions, please retain the Old Firefox Data folder on your desktop. Aside from checking the extensions in there, it would be interesting to run a text file comparison on your currently active prefs.js file and your old one in that folder.

  • Calendar displays 24 hours versus 12 hours

  • PDFs display differently in Internet Explorer 9 versus FireFox

    We use Adobe Reader X in all cases (10.4.1)
    On old computer, we have a website we go to using Internet Explorer (version 8.x on XP) where we ope/save & print to a PDF file. The information on the PDF prints vaules in a certain order - for example:   A,B, C    --works great--this is what we want it to do.
    We buy a new computer, Windows 7 with IE9, and the PDF displays with the same values in this order:  C,B, A  -   not good, do not want that.
    We try FireFox on the new computer  -- works great --just like it did on the old computer.
    What setting in IE9 is causing this PDF to display differently than in FireFox (or IE8)?
    UPDATE:  We did load IE8 on Windows 7 (by uninstalling IE9) and the PDF works fine --so it's not just something unique to FireFox. IE9 is displaying information in this PDF differently--why?

    Add/update these params in your web.xml and redeploy so the style class names are not optimized and client debugging is easier.
