24" IMAC 09 - Replacing HDD -  Size, Hybrid, speed?

HDD went down, got it back but it's not right.  Am replacing, would like to get Hybrid, but seems they are all 2.5", use adapter, probably not, Recommendations for HDD, 1 tb, 7,200 RPM, 6GBS?  Just inquiring what people are using, and am especially interested in the hybrid (HDD/SSD) option, If so will probably have to wait till they move off the 2.5 and on the 3.5 perhaps.  Awaiting response.
SDB

Should work fine, good luck with the upgrade!

    as far as addressing storage space then the limitations should be that of a normal harddisk
    as far as speed then the speed is how fast the disc is if the interface of the computer can't keep up then the disc will wait for it same with a car being able to run faster then the speed limit
    SD card is not a disk....flash memory...#confused or misreading something.
    I wouldn't use an SD card any larger than 64 GB. I am not even sure if these are made.

    Hi,
    You can use any compatible hard drives as you want. I would recommend an ssd instead of a 7200rpm system hard drive. Then a 500GB hdd for data. Go to the HP Software and Drivers website for the laptop and look for a maintenance and service guide in Manuals. There are listed all compatible components including hdd sizes and rpm. You may also see which caddy has to be used (part number) and find it on ebay worldwide..

  • Need Suggestions for iMac Replacement

    Hello Community, I would truly appreciate any suggestions and feedback you may have on our iMac replacement dilemma.  We currently have an early (January 2006) 20” Intel Core Duo Mac, OSX 10.6.8 with a 250 GB HD that has served us well these last 9 years, however as more applications are written for more memory, 64 vs. 32 bits, videos and pics, the Mac has become a bit wonky and it’s becoming difficult to update iPhone and IPad info, so it’s time for replacement.  I have reviewed the new iMacs and MacBooks and am unsure which system is best for us.  Here’s our situation:
    We want the system to work effectively as long as possible.  Another 9 years would be nice.  This will require more memory and drive storage in anticipation of bigger future technological changes.  For example, storing movies on the hard drive wasn’t a “thing” when we bought our Mac.  We are quickly filling our HD up with videos, music and pictures.  Using iCloud for storage is not very feasible because of the following:
    We live in the country and do/will not have access to high-speed internet through land-based cables.  We recently cancelled HughesNet Satellite when AT&T upgraded the 4G LTE equipment on the closest cell tower to our home.  Our only internet access is now through an AT&T hotspot.  It has worked well with iPhone software updates and movie downloads, but I don’t know how well it will work with a very large OSX download.
    Because of our internet access situation a MacBook with a docking station and monitor seems like a good way to go since OSX is no longer available on CDs and Apple allows owners to take their MacBooks into the store to download the OSX updates.  The down side appears to be dual vs. quad core processors and memory size.  I also have an iPad and iPhone, so I have no need to travel with a laptop. Cost is always a fact in these decisions.
    The iMacs are wonderful, and have plenty of options.  Do we need quad-core vs. dual core?  And, what options do I have to upgrade the OSX software if AT&T becomes cantankerous?
    Community, what are your thoughts on our situation?  Which Mac system do we need?

    I didn't find any string functions to do this.Transalate() is not helpful here.
    How can i achieve this functionality.Have you tried concat() function...wherein you could say concat('string here', getVariableData('varName', 'partname', 'xpathLocation'))
    e.g.
         <copy>
              <from expression="concat('Failure',
                   bpws:getVariableData('userFault','userFault','/ns3:UserBpelFaultMessage/ns3:userCode'))"/>
              <to variable="Reply_userFault_OutVar"
                   part="faultReturn"
                   query="/ns10:outputDataType/ns10:EventLog/ns10:Event/ns10:result"/>
         </copy>
    Makes sense?
    regards

  • Can I use iMac's HDD as a second, bootable drive for new PC?

    When I replace an old PC with a new PC, I always keep the old HDD around in case I need to boot into it for some reason. I simply plug it in, select it as the boot drive, and it's sort of like using my old PC again.
    Can I also do this with my iMac's HDD and a new PC? So I could effectively dual boot between my existing Windows OS on my PC's SSD, and OSX using my old iMac's HDD?
    When I do this with two HDDs each using Windows, all the drivers for the new hardware "plug-and-play" the first time I boot with the old HDD, so input and display works. I'm not sure if I'll have the same luxury in this scenario or if I'd need to pre-load new drivers so OSX works with the PC's hardware. My iMac has a AMD (well it was still ATI back in 2009) Radeon HD 4850. I had this same card in an old PC so I would hope the display would still work as well, or worst case scenario I could simultaneously use the iMac HDD with the Radeon 4850 in a PC.
    I have a lot of computers sitting around and I'm moving soon, so I want to consolidate what I can so I don't have to take so much with me when I move. My iMac's display is no good (barely functional, definitely not pretty) so I don't want to keep the big iMac around anymore if I can just keep the little HDD.
    Of course I back up important files and can always read the HDD from a PC, but I'm interested in seeing if I can still use the drive for booting into OSX.
    I'm sure someone's tried to do this before, but my searches turned up with nothing. I'll greatly appreciate any guidance, suggestions, or general thoughts about how I could achieve this. I don't mind getting my hands dirty if a solution exists but isn't simple. Thanks in advance for your input!

    Hi, are you talking about removing the drive from the iMac to use in a PC?
    If your talking about booting the PC into OSX, then google hackintosh.

  • Hdd size

    In consideration to sell my 27" iMac to buy a MacBook Air I seek opinions on the HDD size.
    I have large iPhoto and iTunes libraries. No way to get them on 64, 128 or 256 GB. So I thought to buy a TimeCapsule as well. Where I would store the libraries. I'm not talking about backup. But when I'm on the go of course I would at least have some of my pictured and some of my music.
    How can this be done? Is it possible to have multiple libraries on two HDDs and if so does this work smooth and hassle free?
    Looking forward for advice!!! Thanks.

    Unfortunately there isn't an easy and direct way to achieve what you're looking for but there's definitely some options. I found this article that goes into some detail - http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20061021110224714
    Allow me to elaborate on my solution, while it works for me, it may not work for you but it might be a good starter.
    I have a 2TB NAS that has all of my media that I'll frequently access, such as movies/music/tv shows, etc. I have everything stored in specific folders. For example I have my movies stored by genre, my music by artist/album and my tv shows by show name and season. I have my iTunes library also stored on the drive but iTunes references the files in their existing folder structure rather than dumping them into the movies/music/tv shows folders it creates. This way I can easily access them, or share them out to visitors, etc.
    I can then download specific media files on my portable when I'm on the road, which has it's own iTunes library that's local to that machine. The originals never get touched/moved/disturbed and when I'm done I can easily delete them on the portable to make room for new content on my next trip.
    Where this gets a little tricky is with music and playlists but I put together a couple of Apple scripts for that and those are readily available on the Internet.

  • Restore dvd and MAX HDD size

    Hi, I assume I have a HDD with a problem, someone gave me this powerbook without DVD s. Used to boot fine but now it just does not. On the apple site I dont see links to buy older (pre intel) OSX disks so I can not run disk utilities or reinstall. Where can I buy and download OSX images that I can create a bootdvd with, from my PC.
    Suppose the HDD is broken, what s the maximum HDD size. Smallest I can get here is 180Gb, originall disk is 60Gb. Here s what is written in battery bay:
    1.3ghz/256Mb/60Gb/Combo/BT/APX

    There are several possibilities if you're in the US - don't know about Italy.
    Get original replacement system discs - You can call Apple Customer Support 1-800-767-2775, provide the Serial Number and specifications of the Mac, and for a fee, a replacement set of system discs (if available), can be ordered. However, the discs will be for the original version of OS, that was pre-installed, when the Mac was manufactured.
    Tiger install DVDs are in short supply. Tiger is no longer available at the Apple Store *but may be available for $129 by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753)*. For other sources, do a Google search for MA453Z/A (10.4.6), MA190Z/A (10.4.3) and M9639Z/A (10.4) . Also look on eBay. Be sure & buy a retail version (black with silver X) and not a model specific version (gray) (See Can I use another Mac's system restore disc on my Mac? ). Expect to pay (possibly a lot) more than the Apple list price of $129.
    After you install the base 10.4.x, update to the final Tiger version 10.4.11. Here's the link for the 10.4.11 combo update http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
    Look at this link Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger Installing Software Support Page
    http://www.apple.com/support/tiger/install/
    You can also download the Tiger Installation and Setup Guide

    When you upgrade the OS, do it via Archive & Install. See About the Archive and Install feature http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710
    Be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings. Also, repair permissions before and after the install.
    Leopard is the max OS you can install, but Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store *but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753)*.

    After you install the base 10.5, download & install the 10.5.8 combo update at http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
    You can use the larger HD.

    Sounds just like what was happening with my Alum MB. I took it in and they replaced my battery. It seems to be ok now. I don't know what it is, but my battery was fine before 10.5.6 and the same timeframe of the firmware updates when they came out.
    My battery health was jumping around but was fine before all of this happened. Unfortunately at 381 cycles I don't think you have much chance of getting the battery for free. Perhaps you can complain about the battery saying it was fine until 10.5.6 or whatever. Not sure when your computer was made, but perhaps you are eligible for this program: http://www.apple.com/support/macbook_macbookpro/batteryupdate/

  • Whats better? iMac with HDD or MAcbook Pro with SSD?

    Just like the title says, I am split with what to buy.
    I am thinking of the new 27" iMac (1TB HDD) in which I would look to upgrade ram to 16GB. This iMac is the £1,600 one, not the £1,750 one.
    OR
    The older 13" MacBook Pro (without Retina display) as I would be able to change the HDD to a 480Gb SSD and also upgrade the ram to 16GB.
    I wanna know what machine would be faster for any tasks, like faster loading etc. I also use programmes such as Photoshop.
    I'm not sure what one would be better as to why I'm asking here. Processing/ load up speeds and also non-lag are what I'm after really.
    If any more info is needed, I will reply!
    Many thanks!

    Ideally I would get the iMac with a SSD but as my parent is partly funding this they don't want to get it off the Apple store directly, as they can get a good work discount through PC World (UK technical store if the USA don't have it ) and they only have the HDD version
    But yeah, there's a lot of articles that say for speed and performance, it's the Hard drive and Ram that make the difference and not the processor so although iMac is better in that aspect I think I trust many, many articles aha!

  • Imac 27 HDD failure

    Before i pay a crazy £400 + for a replacment HDD can some one tell me if this is true?
    The HDD has failed on my 27 (late 2009) imac. Took it to alocal shop and they stated with it having heat sensors etc the drive itself would be a minimum of £400.
    Speaking to another friend the HDD is only a Sata II and can be changed with out issue, just have to pus the OS on?
    Any one know the best soloution?

    Replacing anything inside a newer iMac is not easy for even a seasoned computer tech much less for a newbie or novice computer upgrader.
    The costs of installing a new HD is, probably, the labor time to install it.
    See if you can get a larger HD installed into your iMac, since this is a good opportunity to be able to increase your iMac's internal storage.
    Since this is out of warrant and you need to service this to replace the drive, anyway, consider
    Instead of replacing the the old HDD with another that may fail, again, in a couple of years, consider replacing the old drive with the newer Solid State Drives.
    They are more expensive per GB, but they will make your iMac run faster, they contain no moving parts whatsoever, and they generate no extra heat.
    They have have longer longevity/cycle times when compared to the older mechanical spinning HDs.
    Consider purchasing, at least, a 240 GB SSD and if you can afford/justify an even higher price, install a 460 GB SSD.
    With the smaller capacity SSDs, you maybe forced into having to spend even more money to purchase an external FireWire hard drive to use as your main mass data storage device.
    Installing the largest SSD you can justify or afford may keep you from having to purchase that external drive for a while.
    My opinion here.
    If the HD in my 2009 iMac fails at some point, I am considering either install a larger HD or installing a smaller capacity SSD.
    Good Luck!

    That's a kernel panic and indicates some sort of problem either with the computer's hardware or software. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on diagnosing kernel panics. It would help to post the panic log: Mac OS X- How to log a kernel panic.
    Meanwhile, try booting the computers into Safe Mode then restarting normally. If this is simply a disk repair or cache file problem then this may fix it.
    You can also try creating a new admin account on each computer then booting into the new account. This would help determine if the problem is related to a bad file in the user accounts.

  • Need info about max HDD size available for Satellite Pro M30-813

    Hello,
    The following question is mainly to be addressed to authorized Toshiba support personnel. What exactly is the limitation of a maximum size of an internal HDD that I could use with my Satellite Pro M30-813?
    Recently, I have bought and installed seagate 160 GB SATA drive, onto which I have successfully installed WXP Pro and have been running it for quite a while with no problems. Recently, I have been copying large amount of data from an external hard drive to my new internal disk, and as the files were being copied as I noticed having about 50 GB free space left, I had experienced windows "delayed write failed" and a massive partition failure with no possibility to recover data. The system would no longer boot and the whole MBR was damaged. As the result, I have lost all data on my new disk.
    Although, I realize that Toshiba is not responsible for additional hardware that I use with my laptop and that is not officially supported by Toshiba, I am certain that as an end user of a Toshiba product I have the right to know about a max HDD size limitation information for my notebook model. Therefore, I request Toshiba technical support representative to give me a straight official answer to my question.
    Thank you in advance,
    Andrejs
    (You may also contact me privately at my e-mail address)

    Hi Andrew
    > The following question is mainly to be addressed to authorized Toshiba support personnel
    I think you are in the wrong area if you are looking for an answer from an authorized Toshiba support.
    This is a Toshiba user-to-user forum! You will meet here Toshiba notebook owner and enthusiasts who share knowledge and tries solve problems but nobody from Tosh :(
    I could provide my experience with the M30 Satellite and the HDD upgrade possibilities.
    In my knowledge the Sat M30 supports a 40GB, 60GB and 80GB HDD for sure.
    In my opinion you could use the 100GB HDD but bigger HDDs will not run and functions correctly.
    So switch to a lower HDD size and enjoy the notebook!
    Ive goggled a little bit and found compatible HDD and the part numbers
    HITACHI GBC000Z810 -> 80GB
    HITACHI GBC00014810 -> 80GB
    TOSHIBA HDD2188B -> 80GB
    HITACHI G8C0000Z610 -> 60GB
    HITACHI G8BC00013610 -> 60GB
    TOSHIBA HDD2183 -> 60GB
    TOSHIBA HDD2184 -> 60GB
    I hope this could help you a little bit!
    Best regards

  • What is the maximum HDD size for Pavilion DV7-3105ea and can I add a 2nd HDD.

    Hi,
    Please could someone advise me as to the maximum HDD size that can be installed in a Pavilion DV7-3105ea.
    Additionally is it possible to add a second HDD.
    Thanks and kind regards,
    jB

    There is no theoretical limit the only limit is what is sold on the market. Any correctly sized SATA laptop drive will work. They do now make 1TB drives that will fit and yes there is a secondary hard drive bay so theoretically you could have 2TB of storage. You are going to need 1 or 2 drives like this:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152291
    The drive has to be 9.5 mm in height some 1TB laptop drives are too thick.
    You also likely need a second hard drive caddy/connector like this:
    http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=222&zenid=2a83d0d222d80c6...
    And here is a link to the Manual showing how to get to the hard drive bay:
    Drive Manual
    Check your system to see if a secondary drive caddy/connector is there but it likely is not and you need the part linked above. Good luck.
