24" Imac intel outer screen scratched
Just wanted to know if the outer screen of the LCD can be replaced? I accidently scratched it with a metal ruler and now I have a 4" scratch (grove) on the screen.
Thanks
There is nothing available to polish the screen, not even a solution from the aviation industry as the screen plastic is actually too soft and flexible for abrasives. If the screen were glass, a solution is easy to find. All I can offer is to clean the computer screen and apply a tiny amount of Vaseline to fill in the scratch. Wipe off the excess, leaving the scratch filled with the Vaseline.
If this is not acceptable, clean the screen again and you are back to square one. I have used this method in dealing with a scratched plasma screen, it worked fine.

Problems sharing screen w/ iMac Intel and macbook
'm new to networking, so I hope someone can lead me in the right direction. I have a new iMac Intel running Leopard. I also have a MacBook2,1 running Tiger. They both are on my Airport Extreme network.
I can screen share from my iMac to my MacBook, but not the other way around. When I try to access my iMac from my MacBook I get the dreaded beachball for about a minute then it won't connect. I have "file sharing" and "screen sharing" enabled in my system prefs on my iMac.
Am I missing something here?I have a similar problem. I screen share with my friend who's across the Atlantic ocean. We both have Macbooks (mine is a Pro).
I can share my screen to his account but not the other way around. The option to share his screen is always grayed out. HOWEVER, if he quits his account and logs into say the "Guest" account, all of a sudden I can share his screen.
All the Sys Prefs options are the same for both accounts, so I have no idea why this is happening. We both upgraded our previous Tiger installations so I'm not sure why his is causing so much trouble.
Last thing: last nite I was able to share his screen but NOT by click on the little icon at the bottom of iChat. A totally different, long horizontal bar showed up on the screen asking me to choose either sharing my screen or his. If anyone can point me back to that option, I would appreciate it because it was the only thing that actually did work. -
Intel OS X 10.7 iMac has white screen and three-alarm sound, won't start up
Intel OS X 10.7 iMac has white screen and three-alarm sound, won't start up
The 3 beeps during start-up are telling you that the RAM is bad.
If you can access the RAM modules, you may try taking them out and putting them back in, perhaps it's only bad contacts.
If that doesn't help, you'll need new RAM module(s). -
I bought MacKeeper to help make my Imac intel faster. Insted it deleted all my files.
I tried to recover using time Machine, and it didn't recover back to yesterday. So I started to pull
the files and Applications out of trash. This just got me lipping along. It ran slower and would get
the spining wheel of death. I finaly gave in and thought I would reinstall Lion and everything would be
great. Well wrong, I seem to be starting fine, but all my files are gone. When I go in to time Machine
I see a device drive name (xxx). I go in that device and all my files are there. how do I pull them to the new
install of Lion? So I can be happy again. Thank you for all your time and help.Do not install MacKeeper:

IMac Intel with Parallels, Two Monitors and Screen Spanning
Hi,
Longtime Mac user forced into using Windows XP for my business. I have an iMac G5 2.1 (iSight) PowerPC. I need two monitors with screen spanning so I'm thinking of getting an iMac Intel, running Bootcamp or Parallels with XP Pro, and using a screen-spanning program.
1. Can I run Windows XP on the Intel Mac and use screen spanning with a PowerPC iMac?
2. Is it better to load the screen-spanning software on the XP or Mac system?
Thanks! Any help appreciated.Hi and welcome to Discussions,
if nobody answers your questions it could also be that nobody has tried it yet.
I haven't tried this setup yet, so forgive me for fishing in muddy water.
Windows XP is capable of using two (or depending on the graphics card even more) monitors for duplicating or spanning.
My own two Intel Macs are showing me this opportunity in the preferences.
Since I never had the need to do so I have never attached a second monitor.
The Intel iMacs and MacPros are capable of attacing second monitors however with the iMacs you a adapter which you can get from Apple.
I would suggest (if possible) to go the nearest Apple Store and try to convince the guys there to do such a setup for you to verify that it works.
Good Luck

Having an intermittent issue where my iMac blanks out on me. On restarting I get several bands running down the screen with pixels jumping around within the bands, then the white screen of death and nothing... This happens intermittently and usually restarts OK. Happened again three days ago and wouldn't restart for two days (again the bands/pixels etc) but now operating fine? Any ideas whats wrong with my iMac and what the solution may be? Also gets very hot from time to time, particularly if I'm playing music/watching youtube/movies for extended periods. Mac is 3.5 years old, running OS X 10.6.8, processor 3.4 GHz i7 memory 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3
If you live near an Apple Store, make a Genius Bar appointment to have the computer tested. Supposedly there is no charge for testing. Use 2nd link if not near an Apple Store or aren’t in the US.

My iMac intel will not shut down. The version is 10.6.8. To turn it off I have to use the the power off button. Is there any one who can help me to solve the problem.
The blue screen comes on and the spinning wheel goes round and round until I have to turn it off by the power button.I am having the same problem on my Mini. I found an earlier thread (now archived) that suggested that this spinning wheel on shutdown of SL has something to do with power management settings. Another idea was that it is related to EyeTV (which I do have running on this Mac).
Any ideas from the community on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated! (I have done the typical steps of repairing permissions and (from the Install CD) running Disk Utility, which reported no problems.) -

IMac Intel Core 2 Duo Screen Turning Off
Hello! I have a 17" iMac Intel Core 2 Duo 2ghz Model # 5,1 and the problem is after turning the machine on, and getting logged in, the screen turns off while the backlight is still on forcing me too shut it down via holding the power button down. I cant plug in an external display because that causes the screen to turn off. Im thinking its the logic board (more specifically the video card) that needs to be replaced. Does anybody know what I can do to fix this? Besides buying a new logic board? Maybe its because its running Snow Leopard and cant handle the OSX?
A good chance, but...
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

Intel imac line out hifi trouble
Hello all, i just tried an unsucessful search and decided to just post my question. I bought an imac intel duo a month or so ago. I was not impressed with the speakers so i bought the apple hifi to go with my ipod and also plug into my imac. Everything worked fine for about 3 days. Then any audio output coming from the computer is messed up. It is just garbage coming over the line. I unplugged the hifi and it plays fine with the ipod and the internal speakers for the imac work fine. Also when i plug in a pair of head phones the imac line out sounds the same garbage as the hifi. Can the line out jack break on its own. Also i live in north louisiana and the closest apple store in 3 hours away in dallas. I have the apple card plan for 3 years, but i really don't want to drive all the way to dallas. If anyone has heard of this or has a fix please email me at [email protected] I can't guarantee you i can find this thread again to read the response if i get any.
bye and up till now i have loved my imac
rolandI bought the applecare package, and they are sending someone out to take a look. I removed parallels and windows xp virtual computer, Although, i would like them back, if they caused the problem, it didn't correct it when parallels when bye bye.
Anyway, hopefully this applecare rep, will be a smart fellow and know his stuff, and not rip apart my machine. I am kinda worried. Anyone had any experiences with applecare outcall tech's. Let me know, i always prefered the incalls better myself, but this is my first time again.
Don't know if anyone got my lame pun, but any feedback about applecare would be apprecieted... And i will update the result and if the problem is solved, i will change the status of my question to answered. -

Shut down the computer.

Wait fifteen seconds.
Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
Reset the PRAM > Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
Try booting into Safe Mode > Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Or if you have installed new RAM, try reinstalling it or the iMac's original RAM making sure that the modules are fully seated in the slots.
Then if it won't light, seek sercice from your Local Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Store. > Apple - Support - iMac - Service FAQ -

While it's nice to claim compliance in a Press Release, does Apple have anything official backing this up, like a test certificate, or at lease a Statement of Conformity listing UN38.3, UL 2054, and UL 60950-1? These aren't listed in Apple's "Importa
