24" iMac Thin darker line on the screen - dead pixels ?

I have a 24" BTO iMac with 3,06 and GE Force 8800 GS, delivered last year in June.
Was very happy until today, when i remarked, at +/- 7 cms from the right edge, a thin line, extending from top to bottom, and seeming to expand a bit in a blurry way in the middle.
It shows much more in when on a dark background.
Could that be dead pixels ?
I guess I have to ship the machine back to an ARC ?
Or is there some test I could try first ?

A screenshot would not including any effect from a physical screen defect. For the computer, the pixels are there and working properly.
If it appears to be blurry, it may be something casting a shadow between the LCD and the backlighting. Dead pixels are distinct, so there should not be a blur between where the pixels are working and where they are not working.
In any case, since the Mac is still covered by the one-year warranty, you should probably have it looked at by an Apple authorized repair place

  • My MacPro 10.6.8 has a thin green line on the screen.

My MacPro is just over a year old now and I have a thin green line on the screen. I hooked it up to my TV and on the second window (the TV) the green line wasn't there. Whats the issue? How do I fix it?

From what you are saying, sounds like a line of pixels out on the display.
Did the TV use the same connector on the computer? If not, swap the display with the TV. If you still have the line, it is one of the items that you swapped across.
Have you tried connecting the display to another computer? If so, is the line still there?
What kind of display is it? Can you swap the data cable and try a different cable, could be a cable issue.
Any adapters in use? If so, try swapping those to rule them out as a problem.

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi susiesunshine,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like the screen on your iPhone is cracked and it's only displaying a white line. This generally means that the iPhone needs to be sent in for service, see the articles below for more information about the service suggestion and repair pricing.

  • HELP! my ipod has a thin blue line across the screen whenever i play videos

i got my ipod a day ago. i havent dropped it or anything and when i play a video there is a thin, blue, vertical line on my screen. is it broken or what!?

It could be a problem with the way the videos were encoded. Where did you get them from or did you encode them yourself.
If you encoded them yourself, what program did you use?

  • Qosmio G30 - shady dark lines on the screen

    Hi
I bought Qosmio G30-116. Overall great but there is one issue. On the bottom of the screen there are two big shady dark lines (the brighter the color of background is the more wisible it gets.
It is very anoying I bought it mainly for movies. I took it to the shop where I bouth it but they've said it is normal and all toshiba 17" screen have it. But I have seen 3 other models with 17"(qosmio resolution stays the same) and none of them had it.
What should I do? Is it really normal? Thanks

Puuuhhh. Hey pitorek, its really not easy to say if its a display malfunction.
But I think this question could be answered by a authorized technician.
I think you should contact the service partner in your country (I assume youre from Poland ;)) and explain the guys the situation. I think you should send him this screenshot.
Possibly you will get a replacement. But I dont know if it could be a display fault or fl inverter or something different.

  • My iMac has flickering lines on the screen...? HELP!!!

I have a white iMac running Lion that has been freezing up or restarting on me. I've had this issue with Snow Leopard also. Then I also have an issue that when I open the internet I get lines across Safari flickering around as I use it and it also happens when I open Itunes and other programs....I do not run multiple programs at the same time I close them when I'm done. Lately I've been having to use Windows Vista, through boot camp , but even like that I get lines flickering all about. They're black and thin. It has been going on for a while but tody I got fed up with it because I tried playing Sims game but when I opened up the game to start playing all my screen got horizontal lines, they're black and white or black and light blue something like that.
I notice that it mostly does it while running on the Apple OS and when I run it on Windows Vista I only get the line issue.
    Has anyone had this issue?

Hi, sounds like at least seriousHardware problems, most likelyVideo care/Logic board problems.
Have you blown thedust out lately?
Get Temperature Monitor to see if it's heat related...

    iStat Menus...
    http://bjango.com/mac/istatmenus/
    And/or iStat Pro...
    http://www.islayer.com/apps/istatpro/
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.

  • I've just downloaded software -now have a thin blue line on my screen? pls. help.

I have just downloaded some software...when my computer restarted, it now has a thin blue line on the screen.  What's happened?

A: is it in all screens or just Chrome (unlikely)?
    B: reset SMC
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
C: Your LCD is highly likely NOT broken rather a signal feed hardware issue in the monitor cable that travels thru the hinge from the logic board.
D: make a screenshot and verify if the screenshot shows the same or not.
E: the LED backlighting is showing thru implying, of course, that the LCD feed for that vertical line is not being fed.
    Reset SMC and verify.
if same, you have either bad monitor cable or connection of same at junction with logic board.
At which point make appt. with Apple for diagnostic / service

I bought a Ipad air one month ago it was working fine, but the last week appeared a dotted thin line across the screen (vertical), but in this moment there are others thin purple lines. How can i Fix the problem?.

    Hello there, NelsonMejia.
The following Knowledge Base article gives us a few recommendations for troubleshooting issues with your display:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802
    Particularly:
    Display image issues
This can include bright or dark pixels, lines in video, or sections of video missing.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
Verify the issue is not content related, by viewing different content.
If the image is too dark, adjust the brightness. In General Settings choose Brightness and Wallpaperand slide the slider.
If the issue persists, there are recommendations at the end of the article as well:

  • Line on the screen of my ipod touch 4th gen. Starts left of the screen as a blue (bright backgr) or red (dark backgr) line becoming white halfway and going across screen. Any ideas/solutions?

I have an irritating line on the screen of my 4th gen ipod touch going left to right. It starts out as a blue line (with bright backgroung) or red line (with dark background). Switching backrounds will also switch the color of the line. Sometimes it stops halfway the screen. Sometimes the blue/red line becomes white somewhere halfway the screen and continuing as a white line to the other side of the screen. It mostly starts out as a normal screen and when using the blue/red line appears and when using some more the white part appears.Mostly in the beginning the line starts flickering and becomes more steady after a while.
I have searched on the internet but can only find info on some pixels acting weird (stuck/frozen/dead pixels). This is a whole line of pixels not doing what they are supposed to do.
Anyone an idea what this could be and how to solve it?
    Thanks,

Did you ever fix this? My daughters is the same. Treated with tender loving care, we reset to factory and it disappeared but was back again after 2 or 3 days. Still in warranty so going to take to the genius bar, however a bit concerned that because it belongs to an 11 year old they are going to assume she's damaged it.

  • Why are there 2 thin red vertical lines on the screen of my MBP 15" retina which is only 2 months old!

I would just like to understand why there a two thin red vertical lines on the screen
I suspect I need to bring into an apple store for diagnostics but is anyone aware of the likely cause?
    thanks v much!

It could be a GPU issue, a display issue or a display connection issue.  The genius bar technician will offer you a definitive answer and should fix it under the warranty provisions.
    Ciao.

Does anyone know how to get rid of them pleaase. Thx

You can try Resetting the iPod, won't work, if LCD screen is damaged or the display chip surface mounts has gone wobbly, which mean going in for servicing.
    Otherwise.
Press Menu and Center button for 10 secs till the Apple logo comes on, then release the buttons.

Mac and Mac models are picky about the RAM the Mac needs to see and use.
As you have found out, the 1067 speed RAM will not work in your year and model iMac.
You need the 1333 speed RAM.
If, you can return the RAM for a refund, do it!
If not, try online Mac RAM source and seller Crucial memory. They have a table that matches your Mac to the correct and reliable RAM. You may need to contact them to see whether or not they ship to South Africa, though.
If Crucial dpesn't work out, here's the specs for your year and model iMac that you need to seek out and purchase.
    Maximum Memory
32 GB (Actual) 16 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    4 - 204-pin PC3-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
    Good Luck!
