2811 w/ NM-1CE1T1-PRI & PVDM2-36DM - Modem lines being marked "B" Bad

We recently setup a new 2811 router (IOS 15.0(1)M7) for remote dialup access. It has a ISDN PRI network module NM-1CE1T1-PRI and a 36 port Digital Modem Module (PVDM2-36DM) installed to receive the inbound modem calls.
When the router is booted up, inbound remote dialup connections work fine for several hours. Then the router digital modem lines begin to stop working. For example, an inbound call is made but the modem tone does not answer. However a "show modem call-stats" shows that a line becomes active with a "*" symbol. When the call is hung up, the line remains in an active "*" state. Eventually the state changes to a "B - Modem is marked bad and cannot be used for taking calls". This symptom will repeat itself with each new inbound call until all of the lines are marked "B". Only a router reboot will temporarily correct the problem.
Additional symptom, "show modem version" changes to "NiOS Not Responding".

Hi Ismel,
Modem firmware looks good to me but you can still try a firmware upgrade to V3_12_3.
If it is random number selection of bad modem then I suspect that it's an ISP issue and B-channel of ISP while termination of call, leaving the modem in Bad state.

Yes, of course, it is well known fact. We are using NM-1CE1T1-PRI. See "show diag" output below.

  • PVDM2-12DM compatibility with HWIC-1CE1T1-PRI

                      Hi there,
I'm hoping someone can assist.  The setup i am trying to get working is the following
User dials in over POTS to an ISDN30 Line.  The ISDN30 line (3rd Party Supplier) is connected to our 2911 via a HWIC-1CE1T1-PRI module.  We have inserted a PVDM2-12DM into the router to handle the POTS call.
Problem we have is that we cannot seem to get a modem tone when the user dials in.  The ISDN line connects and the debug modem command shows the modem SETUP & INIT phase - see below

but there is no modem tone or any more output from the debug commands.
The ISDN line is working fine as a normal ISDN dial in is successful.
Has any one tried this before or is there a known issue with this solution?

Updated the IOS but made no difference.  Turns out i was missing the line 'network-clock-participate wic 0'  Added this to the config and managed to get incoming POTS calls.  Only problem now is that the PITS call won't stay up for more than 5 seconds.  Looking at the Modem AT registry settings.

  • X.75 ISDN test setup with 2811 and PVDM2-12DM modem

    Hi all,
We have a customer that requires ISDN-X.75 connection as a back-up for IP. This is used by emergency services that require redundancy. We have to build a test set-up. We have two routers with the modem cards and with                 HWIC-1CE1T1-PRI=  cards. We need to build a test set-up to simulate an incoming call. With ISDN-V110 we could use one of the routers to place an outgoing call to the other router. This set-up is not possible with X.75, since the card can not dail out. What would be the best/cheapest/simplest approach to build this test set-up?
My involvement in this project is to build a Perl script that collects data via IOS using expect. If someone has the procedure to collect the calling and called line information for a connection with an example I would be very grateful. Our routers run Cisco IOS Software, 2800 Software (C2800NM-ADVENTERPRISEK9-M), Version 12.4(24)T1, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc3).
For V110/V.34 and X.25 the tty/vty is collected by issueing a show tcp to relate an IP connection that is created to the tty/vty. The tty/vty port is  then correlated to the calling and called line id.  This is done with show x25 vc for X.25 or show modem csm for V.110/V.34. We need something similar for X.75 to distill the calling and called line IDs for a given TCP connection.
    Thanks in advance!

It colud be Hardware(Digital Modem Module ) problem.

    Hi
How many NM-1ce1t1-pri modules can be installed on cisco 2821 and 2811 ?

There is only one NM slot on the 2811 and 2821 so you can only fit one NM-1CE1T1-PRI.

  • Can HWIC-1CE1T1-PRI support voice applications

The product sheet and another helpful forum post clearly states that the HWIC-1CE1T1-PRI does NOT support voice applications on the PRI, only data applications. However, running 15.2(1)T when we configure a PRI group, it seems to imply that it can support a voice application with a command option to the PRI-group.
    dal-rtr02(config-controller)#pri-group timeslots 1-24
%PRI-group is created for data application only.
%For voice application, please remove this pri-group, then configure pri-group again with voice-dsp option.
What gives? I cannot find this command documented anywhere. What does the "voice-dsp" option for the "pri-group timeslots" do?
Should we assume this card can STILL not be used for SIP/TDM Voice gateway services?
Thanks for any tips/confirmation you can provide.
    Kris

Understood, but what is this "voice-dsp" option for on the end of the "pri-group timeslots" command?
    This seems undocumented.
The router output is confusing and implies you could use the "voice-dsp" option to enable voice application. What is this all about? Best ignored I guess. The customer is now buying the correct hardware.

    Hi
I recently noticed (today, 31st December) that our download speed had dropped very low, to approx 0.5Mbps. The upload speed is normal, approx 1Mbps. The modem line rate is however normal (8Mbps dowm, 1Mbps up). I have checked the download speed using http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/. I am at postcode SK237FN and have had consistently reliable download speeds for several years, 5-7Mbps.
    Please help!
I already tried rebooting my router but this has not improved matters.

  • USB Modem not being recognised in OSX

Sorry if this is being posted in the wrong forum.
I have an oldish Usb modem (Intel(R) AnyPoint(R) DSL Modem 3240 http://www.intel.com/support/network/dslmodems/sb/CS-009978.htm) that I have been using for a while with my PC laptop.
I have recently updated to a MacBook and was expecting this modem to be fine since it has worked succesfully with a friends older iBook (he simply plugged in the usb cable and was able to connect to the internet once I gave him the Username/Password. No software installation was required) but on my MacBook the modem doesnt seem to be recognised.
I have followed the install instructions to the letter but when it comes to plugging in the usb modem nothing happens and no modem is found (the l.e.d on the front of the modem stays off)
If anyone has any suggestions that would be great. I only need access to broadband very occassionaly and would like to avoid having to buy a new modem. Thanks
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Generally usb modems don't work or don't work well on Macs
IMO, that is a bit of a sweeping statement. Most people in the UK use a USB modem, not least because they were supplied free by your ISP.
    Get a modem with ethernet
Better still get a router, which what many UK ISPs now provide free.

  • Slow DSL is normal for my area. Switching from modem to router good or bad?

I live out in the country where DSL is a luxery afforded to me my a Home Run Hookup.  I currently use the Westell 6100G supplied by Verizon.  Curious if I can switch to a router to use laptop and desktop at the same time?  Speed is ~ 0.95.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You can. Just bridge the Westell 6100G and insert your own router into the mix. You'll want to make sure your router is set up to use PPPoE so that it can obtain an IP address from Verizon (in most cases).
    Here's a guide. http://www.verizon.com/support/residential/internet/highspeed/networking/setup/questionsthree/123756...
Reverting the settings back is as simple as setting the modem back to PPPoE.
Speed here doesn't matter too much. That 0.96Mbps you're getting will be divided across the machines based on how each machine uses the connection.

The E1 is up and I can dialout but the calls drop after 24-30 secs.
I have issued the debug modem csm and the following output is shown.
    ebug modem s csm

What stands out is the following line 'modem not found due to wrong b channel number or b channel is deallocated'
I have attached the full config and in it I have configured the time-slots 1-12,16 This is because the organisation does not have the full E1 but only first 12 channels 16 is the d channel.
Any assistance would be much appreciated
    Thanks

    Hello folks,
I have found the problem. It seems that the software being used on the server to dial out to the remote devices required a modem initialisation string.
We tested dialing out with a normal windows dialup connection and this work perfectly.

  • PRI + PVDM modems - set IP destination based on DNIS

    I have the following setup:
    2811 router
    PVDM2-12DM modem module on motherboard
    NM-1CE1T1-PRI PRI card
The PRI has a range of numbers assigned to it, but I need to be able to direct dial-in traffic to specific backend IP addresses, based on the number the user dials in to reach the router (the DNIS). I am familiar with the autocommand function used in line configs and have used it before with asynch attached modems to trigger telnet sessions, but never with PRI. Is it possible?
Can anyone provide some links to documetnation or advice on how to set this up?
    thanks very much.

Thanks for the link, its a great help! However I am unable to configure a modem-pool. In global config mode "modem-pool" is an unrecognised command. There is no problem with the modems as the router recognises the PVDM2 modem bank when I show diagnostics.
When issuing 'sh line' I can also see the 12 modem lines 0/322 - 0/333. They also show up automatically as 12 individual asynch interfaces in the config.
    Im running IOS 12.4(9)T4
Could it be there is alternative config required for these types of modems?
    Thanks again,

Now remotely I was able to access the router.
But when I tried to reduce the speed from 115200 to 56000 (modem speed), my modem got disconnected and then I reduced the speed to 9600, but same problem happened ( modem got disconnected ).
Modem got disconnected after I received these funny characters :

What I did is this :
I dropped the PC's speed from 115200 to 57600,and it worked without seeing funny characters.
I have not touch the speed on the router side, I left it as it is.
What be the case if I reduce the AUX's rooter speed ? When I tried to change it by doing this :
    Router2811#config line 1
    Router2811(config-line)#speed 56000
Failed to ,,,,,,I do not remember right now
Why it gave me failed error message !!!!!
    Thanks
