2nd hand ipad not showing as associated device on itunes

Hi All,
I bought a 2nd hand Ipad a couple of weeks ago from a shop (all legit). As I'm pretty useless with all things tech they synced most of my pics/vids and music from my Iphone using their computer in-store.  As my Iphone has more space than the I pad, I bought extra ICloud storage (not realising that this wouldn't create more space in the Ipad - told you I'm stupid when it comes to tech stuff!).
Anyway, after spending saving my pics, vids and music to an external hard drive via Itunes, I then synced my favourites to my Ipad to give me more space. I first noticed that there was a problem when trying to play some of my songs, it would say "this device is already associated an an apple I.d.. if you download past purchases with your id you cannot automatically download past purchases with a different id for 90 days".
Two issues with this.. The first being that the songs it is saying this for were NEVER purchased from Itunes - they were ripped from c.d's onto my Itunes library (and have always played ok on my Iphone and Ipod shuffle).  Secondly, I have only ever had/used one apple i.d for my computer, Iphone, Ipod shuffle and now this Ipad.  The Ipad has been fine using my apple i.d for everything else.. ie, apps, Itunes store and also buying extra i.cloud storage, so I'm not sure why it is viewing it as a different i.d?
After looking on my Itunes account I noticed that under "manage devices" it is only showing my Iphone and computer as an associated device (I'm not too bothered that it doesn't show my Ipod shuffle because I only sync my music occasionally on that). Is this because it's second hand, and if so what can I do about it? Although I bought this primarily so I can view my pics and home vids on a larger screen than my phone, I don't want to worry about losing music from Itunes if it's viewing my Ipad as belonging to someone else, or an authorised device etc. By the way, the shop I bought the Ipad from is legit, they ask for proof of ownership before buying anything - this Ipad was one someone received free as part of a phone upgrade before selling it so it can't be an issue with being blocked etc.
Thanks - any help and/or advice on how I can sort this out would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for replying Ralph,,
I just tried that - still no difference. Ipad not showing up as an associated device on itunes, and on my Ipad when I try to turn automatic downloads on it comes up with the same message.. already associated with an apple ID.. 90 days etc etc.
It makes no sense as the extra icloud storage (and the money they've taken from me to pay for it) has been done using this ipad, my usual apple id and payment details and has been synced to my itunes account (which is associated with my id and authorised). If you have any other ideas (or alternatively know which dept I should contact in Apple) I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks :-)

  • IPad not showing up as device in iTunes

I got my replacement iPad yesterday. When I hooked it up to the computer last night, it "restored" the new one to what I had last synced on my old one before it died...
Problem is now that today, when I plug the iPad in, it isn't showing up as a device in iTunes. I have done all the basic trouble shooting (restarting iTunes, resetting iPad, restarting iTunes) but still no luck. What can I do?

I would start here and the related articles on the middle left.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    Re-pair your library with iTunes.
Settings/computers, disconnect your library, then remove the Apple TV from iTunes prefs if necessary.
    Then settings/computers/connect to iTunes.

  • TS1425 it won't disconnect   it says connected but is not showing up under devices in ITunes

I Pod is not showing up under devices in ITunes...it is connected to my MacBook Pro and it says connected ...but it is frozen...

I'm not a Mac user, but do one of the following:
    > Restart your mac.
    > uninstall & reinstall iTunes
    > reset your iPod (if possible)
    > make sure iTunes is up to date.
This is what I really know, I don't use a mac. If this doesn't help, then sorry.

  • I can't sync my ipod and it's not showing up in devices in itunes

I bought my son an iPod touch and we are not able to sync it to get our music off the computer. The iPod isn't showing up in devices in iTunes and there are no devices showing up or even the word devices. Please help so we can get our music onto his new iPod. Thank you very much!!

Alot of us are having the same problem witht he new version of Itunes... Apple needs to fix their own side of the problem cause no support they are giving us is working! Also half of the answers from the community are risky/ waste of time answers that are unsure if they will even work, and to many that try -Don't work!
Ive been trying since yesterday to get an answer, no one is helping :/

  • ATV not showing up under devices in iTunes

I have synced this ATV with this Macbook in the past.
I am able to play music from my Macbook thru my ATV by selecting the ATV speakers instead of the Macbook's speakers.
I can play movie trailers on the ATV.
In iTunes>Preferences>ATV my ATV shows up and says it is syncing
I have updated my ATV and iTunes software.
However, it does not show as syncing on the home screen of iTunes and does not show up under devices on the left side. Any ideas?

  • Updated iTunes and iPod software  iPod not showing up under devices in iTunes

Updated software since computer said there were updates.  Now I'm having trouble with iPod not showing up under devices.  Have gone through all the steps under troubleshooting.  Nothing helped.  Had this same problem periodically in the past, as well.  Itunes also says I have an app I reinstalled today due to it not working properly, and it won't synch with iPod.  (earlier today, iPod was showing up and synching properly, but this app wasn't getting downloaded to the iPod.  Just shows up in iTunes.  HAve tried restarting computer, iTunes and iPod, but no luck.

Thank you but I have tried this and it still does not show up.  I even tried to delete itunes and reload it but the computer says that it is not able to delete itunes.

  • I got the iphone 5 and it does not show as a device in itunes??

how do i get my iphone 5 to show as a device in itunes?

The iPhone 5 running iOS 6 requires iTunes 10.7. Start iTunes on your computer and use the menu to see About iTunes and determine the version. Is it 10.7? If not you must update iTunes.
Note that iTunes 10.7 requires OSX 10.6.8 or higher on a Mac.
If your iTunes is already at 10.7 then reboot your computer and reset your iPhone. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • TS4006 IPad not showing up in devices.  Does this mean we didn't have it set up properly or just that it's not connected to wi if?

My IPad is not showing up on Find my IPhone.  Does this mean we don't have it set up properly or it's not connected to Wifi?  It was stolen last night.  Trying to locate it

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can only locate your device when it is logged into iCloud and 'Find My Phone' is enabled, additionally the device will need to be switched on and connected to a wifi or cellular network.
Unfortunately, you cannot activate iCloud or 'Find My Phone' remotely.
If the device is wiped by you or another, you may not be able to locate the device (although some have reported they can)

  • My new iPad not recognised as a device in iTunes on my IMac - I have the latest version of iTunes, have tried logging off and on but still  no device listed. Can anyone advise how to resolve this?

I am trying to sync my new iPad with iTunes on my iMac but when I attach the iPad to the computer via USB it still doesn;t show up as a device in iTunes. What am I doing wrong? I have checked all the tech specs and all seem ok. I bought the iPad in the U.S. - would this make a difference?

What you provided is not everything mentioned.
Your Mac is running 10.5.8 or later and iTunes 10?
You are connecting the iPad direct to a USB port on your Mac and you have tried every port?
You have reinstalled the Apple Mobile Device Service?
If your Mac is running Snow Leopard - 10.6, have you checked this link?

  • Why doesn't my iPad mini show as a device in iTunes?

I just got a new iPad mini and was planning to sync my iTunes library to it.  I've never had issues with syncing my iPod and I understand how to sync and choose playlists.  BUT: when I connect my iPad to my computer, the iPad never shows up as a device detected by iTunes.  ALSO: It will not allow me to copy over any music manually.  I would prefer to not use iCloud, as the iPad and the iPod are the only Apple products I own. I have already downloaded my purchased iTunes onto the iPad, but really would like to grab some of my imported files as well!
The only thing to note: when I last logged into iTunes on the computer, it found an update.  However the update did not complete and gave me an error.  I've tried multiple times to update it, but it keeps erroring out (does not say what the problem is).  Other than this, could there be any reason why iTunes on my computer doesn't detect my new iPad mini??

i have two ipod touches. i can sync one of them with no problems. the other is not being recognized by itunes (it was before). it doesn't show up as a device in itunes like the other one does. any suggestions?

    - Does the non-connecting iPod work OK?
    - Does it charge from the computer?
    - Try a reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
