I just had 2 small questions regarding configuration.
1. (Solved)How do I set nautilus to not open a new window when I click on a file, but to just use the same window.
2. Whats the best non-Kde app for playing music that has good playlist selection but also has an equalizer, noted that rhymtmbox has good playlists but no equalizer so sound output is average to say the least.
3. (Solved) Under gnome how do I choose to have sound unmuted by default

if you like it simple, try audacious. it's bmp classic fork. it has pl and eq. it's in extra: audacious-player and audacious-plugins.

Move the photos from the Trash bin in iPhoto onto the Library icon to get them back in their proper events. Then check the thumbnails to see if they are still behaving the same. If they are make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

There are non-standard libraries out in the great aether that will allow this, but I believe that most of us mere mortals will use a GUI such as Swing when we want this type of functionality.
2. How can I write a Java code to print in a printer?Have you looked on Google or the Sun tutorials? It would be best if you start there and then come back here if you have any specific questions about something that's not working.

Small question mark on top border of finder window

On my Macbook pro, finder window has a small question mark on top border. Pls help me how to remove this..

Hi i dont know what that is, but i have that same problem and i am more worried than bothered. If you want to remove it though you can hold down command and drag it out of there and it will poof away. you can also do this with the icons on the top bar by the spotlite.

1 - i have removed my Sound Blaster Audigy and i am now able to reach 2.5GHz easily, when the audigy was installed, i could never get over 2.4Ghz, why?
2 - i have increased my vcore to 1.7 yet am experience lower idle temps with c'n'q enabled eg...2.4GHz @ 1.55v would idle at 29c.....2.5GHz @ 1.7vcore idles at 23c, how?
3 - moving my ballistix ram into dimm slot 3 i am now able to go 1:1 to 228 htt at timings 2.5,2,2,10 easily...when the ram was in dimm slot 1 i couldnt go 1:1 over 200 htt, why?

NetStream.send() should usually be faster than NetGroup.post(), especially when using 1:1 NetStreams (vs Group NetStreams).
when groups are large, there's no passive way to tell when members join or leave. however, for small groups (less than about 15 members), they will be "fully meshed", meaning every member has a direct connection to every other member. when that's the case, you can see the NetGroup.Neighbor.Connect/Disconnect events on a NetGroup. to receive those, you must create a NetGroup with the same groupspec as your NetStream and listen for NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS events.
your function "msg" must be a method on the subscribing NetStream's "client" object to receive NetStream.send()s from the publisher.
this is all generic ActionScript stuff. i don't know how to use Flash CS5 but this stuff should all be the same in Flash and Flash Builder.

Nokia E71 small Questions

I've been using my E71 for 6 months but it has left me with a few small questions.
1.) The 2.5 audio port produces awful hissing when paired up with a pair of Sennheiser in-ear headphones (the noise can be heard on the bundled nokia headphones, just not as loud). This hiss can also be heard when navigating the menu system via the menu sounds. Is this typical or does the 2.5mm output supposed to produce clear sound?
2.) The front audio speaker tends to develop a echo/hollow sound when talking to people or listening to music. I must tap the front speaker to rid the issue. This is something that seems to come and go.
3. ) I'll be taking my phone to Poland and wanted to know if there's a way to change the SMS language/dictionary from English to Polish. I'd like my words to be corrected and autotyped in Polish.
If that is possible, is there then a hotkey for such an action to be able to swap between languages?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

you need a compatible 2.5m adaptor and they are hard to find and match up with good headphones
this speaker does tend to be hollow at times this is not a music device so quality is not as same as a music dedicated model
in phone got to personalisation/language there you will see phone language and writing language see what options you have from there

Anyone else pretty excited? (some small questions)

This is pretty great, I've been waiting for this merger for awhile (like I'm sure a lot of us have been) but I do have some small questions (that probably wont be able to get answered):
• On the 9th, I'm assuming people will be camping out and what have you. But would EVERY Verizon and Apple store carry the Verizon iPhone on the 10th? I'm assuming no...
• With the NE2 special ending, even long time customers will no longer be able to use this service, right? Furthermore, does that mean there will be no more annual upgrades, and that everyone must pall full retail (usually $300-$500) for a new phone?

Existing Customers will have their NE2 option grandfathered for one more use, then after use at upgrade time it's forever gone. Annual upgrades required a minimum service level, so not everyone qualified (I never did, my plans were too cheap to qualify) and upgrades will come at 10 months (1 year contract) or 20 months (2 year contract), same as they are for me now.

Small up/down arrows below scrollbar

Just like in the Mac OS finder and other places I would like to see small up/down arrows under a vertical scrollbar or on the right side of a horizontal scrollbar, so that I can 'step-scroll' small thumbnails. I now use the arrow keys, but that is not ideal.

I second this. Up/down arrows on scroll bars are a universal standard -- not sure why Lightroom omits them.
Use case: I want to scroll the grid view by one row of thumbnails.
The mouse scroll wheel will scroll by on row. But laptops typically don't have scroll wheels.

That folder with the question mark icon means that the MacBook can't find the boot directory. That can either mean it can't find the hard drive or the Operating System data on the hard drive is somehow corrupted.
Put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
Or if you are running 10.7 Lion, boot from the recovery partition (Command +R on boot) and use Disk Utility to repair your OS 10.7 partition.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. When it comes up is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is, then click on the Mac OS partition of your hard drive in the left hand list. Then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. The Repair Disk button won't be available until you've clicked on the Mac OS partition on your hard drive. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions. After repairing use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for restarting from your hard drive.
If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead.

A Small Question From an Inexperienced MacBook User

Hello everyone, hope all is well...
I have a small (but perhaps big) problem that I was hoping someone could help me out with...
I routinely use the erase free space function in disk utility (about once a month) and perform a seven pass erase on the "untitled" disk. The other day, I was playing around with my MacBook and decided to reinstall Mac OS X. I put the first installation disk in, and before getting started on the process, I went into disk utility and erased both the "untitled" disk and the disk entitled "74.5 Hitachi HTS542...". Then, I erased the free space on the "untitled" disk. Well, when the procedure was almost done, I suddenly got a message saying that there was some kind of internal disk error. I was not sure what had happened so I reinstalled everything and then did the same thing described above again - and, once again, I got that error message!
I finished the installation and started worrying. Did I damage something? I asked a friend of mine what might have happened and he said that erasing free space actually slightly damages your computer because it reduces the overall amount of memory your computer has. This small damage, he said, was the reason I received the error message.
Can anyone else give me some advice? Is it true using disk utility in this way damages your memory a bit? If so, how can I fix it? My friend said the damage is irreversible. Is this true? If so, just how much damage do you think might have occurred?

To launch Disk Utility from my install disk I have to put the first of the two installation CD's that came with my computer and go to Disk Utility but then quit after I'm done so that it doesn't go through the installation procedures, is that correct?
Yes. Boot with disk 1, select your language, and when the menu bar pops up, select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
Also, once in Disk Utility, what do I do to repair the disk? Do I go to First Aid and then click "repair disk permissions"?
Yes. You select the underlying volumes on your internal HD, click the First Aid tab (should be the default, if so, no need to click), and click repair disk. When that's finished, without errors, quit Disk Utility (no need to check permissions). If you get errors, repeat until they're gone or DU reports that it can't fix them. When you're finished, quit DU, select Startup Disk from the Utilities menu, select the internal boot volume, and click the Restart button.
Also, why is it necessary to do this while starting up from the Mac OS X installation disc?
Because you can't repair the disk you boot with.
I don't think I have the Apple Hardware Test program - where can I get that?
Read the two disks carefully. There should be a note (upper right-hand corner) that states to boot with the AHT, you hold down the D key.

Just a small question

Hi everybody! Recently, I found my old Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0 and decided to install that on my windows 7 laptop. Everything's working fine, but I have a question. I make a lot of little videos and the only way I can get them to my friends and family to show them is by e-mail, which requires the video size to be less than 25 megabytes. I've gone through almost all of the export options in adobe and they've always come out to 100 megs or 200 megs no matter what option I do. For the record, the same videos are only about 40 megs in Movie Maker and I can just lower the quality and drop it down to where I can e-mail them. Unfortunately, Adobe is all I have right now, so my question is this: How low can I drop the quality and what is the lowest, still watchable, file-size export option? Thanks in advance!

Few small questions about locating Macbook air specification information

Sorry for silly questions but I'm a bit stuck after trying to find the answers myself...
1. I went to About this Mac > System Report > Hardware. I cannot find the RAM but does this fall under Memory?
2. I went to Finder, then Capacity is showing 121GB. Is the the correct location to check the size of the Hard Drive?
3. Where can I check if the hard drive is SSD or not or a SuperDrive?
4. I needed to find the Model Number which I couldn't find using 'System Report'. Can you please let me know for future reference where to Model Number on the actual machine? I did actually googled the serial number and found a website with the specification of the machine, but is this good practice and normal way of finding out this information?

1- Yes RAM falls under memory.
2- Right there, in the system report, look down in the list for Serial-ATA and you will see you hard drive specs.
3- Same as step 2, you will see something like "Model: APPLE SSD SM128C" depending on your drive's size.

Network game communication algorithms... small question

Just a (hopefully) quick question about getting input from the client side for passing information to a server. At the moment it is set up to take and send the input from the client once the return key is pressed, and send the whole line (with the system.in part). But obviously for a game to be played I am needing the client to send every individual key press from the client. I could try and use the read() method for the bufferedreader, but this returns an int, and I require a string so it can be checked in the server (as I am also going to have a server side representation of the game, as the project is to be investigating lag effects and different solutions to get around online game lag). Or could I use the read() method and use the returned int to find out from that key what was pressed and then change it to the key pressed from the int value returned, or is there a quicker way that doing this check?
I think there was a method that takes a character array as a parameter and I could somehow set the size to be only 1, so it would send every individual key pressed by the client, then allowing me to send this and display it at the server side? Or am I off on the wrong foot entirely...
This is the basic code of getting the actual input and then calling the methods which actually sort out writing to the streams elsewhere in the program:

Hi,
You could send the KeyEvent object created by the key press event using an ObjectOutputStream or you could just write its code (KeyEvent.getKeyCode()) using DataOutputStream.writeInt().
If you need the distinction between a press and a release you could write presses as normal key codes and releases as negative key codes.
In a game I'm making that uses UDP instead of TCP to communicate over the network, since UDP packets aren't guaranteed to get to their destination, whenever a key is pressed or released I send a whole array of integer keyCodes that show which keys are down. This way when a key is released, but the packet indicating the release doesn't get to the server, the server will find out eventually when the next key is pressed/released and a new 'key state' array is sent.
