3 way video conference from mac to pc

I have a Power Mac G5, and have recently started video conferencing with my friend, who happens to be a PC user. We have both been video conferencing through Skype, and it works great... but is it possible to add a 3rd person to our video conference (another pc user)? Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thank you!

Can not be done in iChat.

  • AIM(PC) doesn't see the video in a one-way video conference from me iChat

I'm using an iMac running iChat v 3.1.5. The other end is using a PC running AIM v 5.5, with the ports opened on the windows firewall, but she cannot see the video coming from me. We both get audio, just no video for her. She gets a black screen. How do we fix this?

    Hi TonyBar3,
Even though she has not got a camera has she tuned the app for A/V chats

  • Can't initiate a video conference from Mac to PC wtih iChat and AIM

I am using iChat on an iMac intel core duo and trying to video chat with my dad on a PC laptop using AIM 5.9. We can both invite the other to video chat, however when either one click to accept various things keep us from initiating the chat. One message we get says a firewall may be the problem. My firewall is turned off. He is running Norton. But we tried with that firewall turned off as well as the windows firewall tirned off. At the moment we are on the same network connected via a 2wire router (Myself wirelessly and he via ehternet). I have tried various settings with the router firewall including setting the PC to DMZ and the Mac to the settings specified on portforwarding.com.
When I initiate the conversation from the Mac he gets a brief flicker like the video window is opening and then it closes; meanwhile my computer says waiting for response until it gives up. When he initiates the video chat and I accept I get the message that the chat failed because I did not respond even thougth I clicked accept. He gets a mesage that the chat failed and the reason may be a firewall.
Any ideas on how to get this to work so that we are able to video chat. Also he will be returning home in a few days and using a linksys router.
Any help or ideas to try would be great

    Dear Ralph,
Sorry for the confusion, I did assume you were an Apple empoyee. Your knowledge about iChat is stunning. I appreciate your effort to help users by sharing your knowledge with such dedication. I do apologise.
    Regarding:
Port forwarding is being automated and static ip addresses will be generated automatically.
Let's call it redirection (the handshake indicates the port to forward to).
When you have NAT running in your home you have the entire Internet available to all your machines. What if you have a machine behind the NAT gateway that needs to be accessed from outside? This is where redirection comes in. Redirection allows incoming traffic to be sent to a machine behind the NAT gateway.
    An example:
rdr on tl0 proto tcp from any to any port 80 -> 192.168.1.20
This line redirects TCP port 80 (web server) traffic to a machine inside the network at 192.168.1.20. So, even though 192.168.1.20 is behind your gateway and inside your network, the outside world can access it.
The from any to any part of the above rdr line can be quite useful. If you know what addresses or subnets are supposed to have access to the web server at port 80, you can restrict them here:
rdr on tl0 proto tcp from 27.146.49.0/24 to any port 80 -> \
    192.168.1.20
This will redirect only the specified subnet. Note this implies you can redirect different incoming hosts to different machines behind the gateway. This can be quite useful. For example, you could have users at remote sites access their own desktop computers using the same port and IP address on the gateway as long as you know the IP address they will be connecting from:
rdr on tl0 proto tcp from 27.146.49.14 to any port 80 -> \
    192.168.1.20
rdr on tl0 proto tcp from 16.114.4.89 to any port 80 -> \
    192.168.1.22
rdr on tl0 proto tcp from 24.2.74.178 to any port 80 -> \
    192.168.1.23
A range of ports can also be redirected within the same rule:
rdr on tl0 proto tcp from any to any port 5000:5500 -> \
    192.168.1.20
rdr on tl0 proto tcp from any to any port 5000:5500 -> \
    192.168.1.20 port 6000
rdr on tl0 proto tcp from any to any port 5000:5500 -> \
    192.168.1.20 port 7000:*
These examples show ports 5000 to 5500 inclusive being redirected to 192.168.1.20. In rule #1, port 5000 is redirected to 5000, 5001 to 5001, etc. In rule #2, the entire port range is redirected to port 6000. And in rule #3, port 5000 is redirected to 7000, 5001 to 7001, etc.
Static ip addresses are necissary to ensure that the router does not hand out the same ip twice, hence my question about the data transferred when a user connects his new mac to the one wich was set previously by the user (or other user). I think this information is explained in the Network Traffic Analysis you direct iChat to when they are asked to port forward (manually). I do not know the url by heart but it should be a known link to you.
    Regarding auto response:
Sometimes you have to consider whether a very direct (and unelegant) interveniance in the software outweights the malfunction of an application that is causing a lot of trouble and inconvinience to Mac users. Personally I think that in this case the risk of being disturbed (still the same as anyone who askes for attention using chat or even phone) outweighs the much more irritating and incomprehensible "user did not respond" message and thus not being able to use one of the main features promised and promoted by Apple.
    Yes life is inconsistent,
at least life is not sold to you.
    Regards,
    JPM

  • Three-way video conference MAC with AIM

Are you able to do a three-way video conference with 2 users with AIM accounts with one who has MAC accounts?
The person with the MAC account shows up not stacked to indicate multi-video conference.
    Just Wondering

    Hi DB in NB,
    It depends on...
Are they all using iChat 3
Do they have an Internet connection in excess of 384kbps both up and down ?
(there are some variants if the download is quicker that will allow you to have 256K up)
Do they have a Mac over a G4/1Ghz single processor
Is the one to be the Host a G4/1Gz Dual or greater ?
If they all fill this criteria and one does not show stacked icons then it needs some maintenance.
They should make sure the System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab is set to 1.5Mbps
They should run the Cron scripts if they are not sure

  • Ichat 4 way video conference

    guys hope you can help.
I am a Mac newbie and have been dropped from a great height into Ichat video conferencing.
My company have bought 5 24" imacs for VC and a mini mac running ichat server. The company who installed can't seem to help. they told me that all th audio\video data goes through the mac server. I have disproved this by having two of the imacs log on and VC I then disconnected the mac server and the 2 imacs continued to VC.
so my question is how does the audio\video data move?
say in a three way chat mac1 initiates conf with mac2 and mac3, does mac1 host all data or do mac2 and mac3 pass their audio\video data between themselves?
I hope this makes sens i need to know how video\audio is moved to set QOS accross our WAN VPN.
    "Panarama rule"
    thanks

    Thanks for the reply Rocky.
so the bottle neck when it comes to bandwidh will be the initiating mac. we have 2mb lease lines with QOS of 1mb for video conferencing will this be enough?
we bought this solution from and Apple dealer who said we would get excellent quality with a 4 way video conference session.
what sort of kbps do you need for a reliable consistaint session?
we are crossing subnets so bonjour wont work i believe.
im sorry I have so many question but i cant find a definitive answer from apple or our supplier (they Dont know)

  • AV conference from MAC to PC

    Here is the thing.
Most of my friends I want to video conference with are using Messenger for Windows (they are slowly getting converted or sold to mac but still on PC for now.
Is there an easy way for me to video conference with them other than having them all switch to AOL or Skype? Is Messenger for Mac now allows for this or is it still intra corporation only? I'd rather use iChat; could I do it using iChat

When exporting my video on my Mac from Premiere Pro the video will play but there is just an awful static sound for all my audio.  I have used the H.264 format with Match Source from my dell and it has worked fine.  I don't know why it exports this way from my Mac and it is the computer I would like to use.  Haven't been able to share anything from this computer yet.  Any suggestions?

  • How to transfer video files from Mac Mini to iPad

What is the best method to copy a video from a mac to the iPad?  Please lis steps necessary.

iOS and iPod: Syncing photos using iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236
Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • Need Video Feed from Mac to Video Mixer

I just took over the video production dept. of the high school where I teach. Right now we export video (usually Q-Time movies) from the Mac on to a mini DV and then hook up the camera to a video mixer and then broadcast. The problem is that it is not very realiable. Often, the Mac loses connection with the camera while it is exporting. I want to know if the video mixer can be connected directly to Mac. Someone told me that the with the Mac Pro and some sort of card that it was possible. I understand that the macs use firewires and usbs for connection and that the mixer has the standard video plug connectors, but is there a way to alter the video out on the Mac to accept the mixer plug.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Not exactly cheap, but Google came up with this:

  • How to sync iPhone video back from Mac to iPhone?

I synced a number of iPhone recorded videos to my iMac and deleted them from my iPhone. I now want to put some of them back on my iPhone. I made a playlist in iPhoto, dragged the videos into it and tried to sync that playlist back to my iPhone, but neither the list or the videos in it made it back to the iPhone.
Does anyone know how to get videos back to the iPhone again?
    thanks,
    Erik

You can use the iTunes Photos setup pane to sync photos and videos (Mac only, iTunes 9 or later required) back to the Photos application on iPhone. I added my video to the album I sync to my phone.
Be sure to check "Include videos".

  • Easiest Way to Go From Mac Book to HDMI Hi Def TV

Can someone post what basic cables one would need to go from the mini DVI out to HDMI on the TV? People say to go from mini dvi to dvi, and than from dvi to hdmi. This doesn't make sense to me because wouldn't the end of the dvi to dvi end in the wrong end (male or female, I'm not sure).
    Thanks!

    Hi David,
I'm not 100% certain on this, but - I think that both the connector formats you are considering (DVI & HDMI) are similar to the common audio interconnect standard - RCA Phono - in the sense that they all rely on all appliances having panel mount female versions of the connector, and all interconnect cables having trailing plug variations. Generally speaking, 'genderbender' style adaptors are available for all types for those unusual set-ups or non-standard signal routings.
For the situation you describe, it sounds like you already have the best advice. Use an Apple Mini DVI to DVI (male to female because you are effectively replicating the appliance port) adaptor & any of several available DVI to HDMI cables (male to male interconnect).
Bear in mind that although the HDMI connection standard supports audio, DVI does not - so you will need to consider a path for the audio too. IMHO, if your stereo is near your TV, tape a fibre optic to the video lead and use the optical out from the MacBook headphone socket.
    Cheers, Stephen.

  • Slide Show video exports from Macs to Windows

I work on a Mac.  When I export a Slide Show as Video anyone with a mac has no problem viewing it.  my windows friends however can't open it.  any suggestions?

Slideshows exported as video will play in the Adobe Media Player, Quicktime player and Windows Media player 12 (as well as quite a few other players, the best being VLC). The first two work on widows XP, Vista and 7 and OSX, the windows media player 12 on Windows Vista and 7. They must have a video player installed on their system to play the slideshows. All these are free for them to download. If they haven't got one of these players installed, other than suggesting that they do so, there is not a lot you can do...

    Hi MADAMOZ!
Just a couple more suggestions to consider.
Athough, as Kappy & cornelius posted, the Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, can also be purchased at the online retailers that cornelius posted links to, this is the correct one Mac OS X 10.4.6 Tiger, (DVD) Retail, selling for $159.95, at FastMac.
And at HardCore Mac, selling for $199.99.
Notice that both, are more expensive, than, the The Apple Store (U.S.), selling for $129.00.
Other online retailers have similar pricing.
The discs should look exactly like the images in the above links, and not say Upgrade, CPU Drop-in DVD, or "This software is part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold seperately." on them.

Once Tiger 10.4.x is installed, PPC 10.4.11 Combo Update, to upgrade to the current version.
Additionally, Tiger 10.4.x ships on a DVD, so if your Mac doesn’t have a built-in DVD-ROM player, you will have to use an alternative method of installation.

The Tiger Media Exchange Program, referred to, is no longer available.
There is also a version available on CDs, at FastMac, for $179.99.

  • Record 2 way video conference

Is it possible to record 2 way conference in a single file? I can record conference separately for both perticipents but can not record as a single recording file. Kindly help me if anyone has done yet.
    Thanks,

You can't record two streams to a single file with FMS. You'll need to record to separate files and develop your own timecode scheme to sync them on playback.
