32-bit Driver Issues (OK in 64-bit)

I'm hoping someone from Lenovo monitors this forum...
System: T500 2242-CTO w/ Integrated Graphics, Intel P8400, 3GB DDR3
I have two 2.5" SATA drives, on one I loaded Windows 7 32-bit and on the other I loaded Windows 7 64-bit.
I have discovered some lenovo software/driver bugs in Windows 7 32-bit, these bugs are not present in Windows 7 64-bit:
- Power Manager/Power Management Driver: In Windows 7 32-bit, if you choose to enable the optical drive power off feature the optical drive will not resume from the powered off state unless you reboot or remove the optical drive from the system and re-insert it into the bay. This feature works appropriately in Windows 7 64-bit.
- Windows 7 Device Experience and Registry Patch to arrange icons in Devices and Printers folders: The product information in the Devices and Printers folder does not update properly in 32-bit. The icon does not update to be a picture of a ThinkPad and double-clicking the icon does not provide lenovo specific information, it only provides generic information. (Not a big deal, but I think of it as one of those "it should work" things.) This works properly in Windows 7 64-bit.
Now for the opposite situation (things that work in Win 7 32-bit and not in 64-bit), in Windows 7 32-bit the system fan rarely runs. Most of the time passive cooling is sufficient. However, in Windows 7 64-bit the fan runs almost constantly, albeit at a lower speed. I'm still trying to pin down whether or not this is actually temperature related, although at this point it does not appear to be (which makes sense - 1% CPU usage is 1% or am I wrong here?)
I much prefer the quietness of Windows 7 32-bit (less fan noise and more battery life since the fan doesn't have to run as often) but I like the fact that everything works in Windows 7 64-bit...

32bit and 64bit versions have their own little problems. 32bit is already being phased out by Microsoft starting with Windows Server 2008 R2. On the other hand with 64bit you are using the whole CPU so it does get a little hotter. Think of it as double the processing speed on 32bit. Personally I would keep the 64bit copy as it will last longer and will offer better upgradeability.

  • 64-bit Driver Issue? with SB LIVE!

Please note that I am running on a 64-bit operateing system. With this said, I did install
the 64-bit Device Drivers for my product, and all the cables are connected correctly. The problem I run into, is the fact that I cannot A. Recei've sound from my rear Speakers. and B. I cannot select the 5. option in the Creative Surround Mixer. I can only select 4.. But even with that I stil reci've no sound from the rear or center speaker. Yes I know all about that upmixing mumbo jumbo. Also note, that when I try to test the speakers no sound comes out of the rear speakers. I took it upon my self to check if it was the speakers simply by switching the rear and front cables on the soundcard ports, and the rear speakers do infact work. So the speakers themselfs work, just not all 5 of them at the same time.
I went back and looked at the drivers and saw that the SB Li've! 5. driver was still in beta for the x64 platform. Could this be an issue? Also, I did infact disable the on-board sound in both the bios and in the device manager. I tried several times reinstalling the Creative software (installed everything but the 32 bit drivers) but to no avail it still didnt work. I also tried reinstalling the driver several times, but I run into the same problem time and time again.
Any thoughts?Message Edited by briguy2004 on 03-2-200604:6 PM

Has anyone had any luck with this? I just got a set of 5. speakers to go with my sb li've! 5. card on xp x64, and ran into the same problem... it works fine on 32-bit, but I got a 64-bit processor for a reason and hate the fact that I can't have my surround working just because I'm using a 64-bit operating system. It'd be nice if Creative would get their act together and do something about all of these problems I'm seeing on the forums...

  • NI-USRP 14.0 driver ,and labview 2013 64 bit

    Hi
Is it possible to use the NI-USRP 14.0 (64 bit driver)  with Labview 2013 64 bit ?
have someone tried to install  NI-USRP 14.0 drivers and then convert the driver ("instr.lib \niUSRP" directory) back to 2013 version ?
or do i need to purchase the 2014 version if i want to run 64 bit labview & USRP?
    Thanks

    Hi again
i installed the 32 bit verision of niusrp 14.0 driver (selected to install  the driver for labview 2013 ,32 bit version)
& copied the installed files from 32 bit labview directories to the 64 bit version directories
, when opening a usrp vi (like "open rx session.vi" ) it says :
"error loading "niusrp.dll" A dynamic link library (DLL) initalization routine failed.
if i then try to point to another niusrp.dll like the one placed at C:\windows\SysWOW64\   , i got :
" the library selected is not valid for the current platform. for example ,you are running 64 bit labview and the library might be a 32 bit library"
where can i find the "right" niusrp.dll ?
so it seems that the niusrp 14.0 driver does not support labview 2013 64 bit version, ?

  • HP 6600 Scan\Print Driver Issue for Windows 7 Professional 64 bit

    Hello,
For some time now I have been unable to scan or print from my desktop (Windows 7 Professional 64bit) and I have exhausted too much effort and am now bringing it to the masses.
    The problem:
Printing:  Currently receiving an "Error - Offline" message in my printer queue at all times.
Scanning:  Scanning has never fully worked on this desktop. I am always unable to communicate with the printer. (Though webscan works through accessing the printers IP address)
    Things I have tried:
Ran HPPSDr, followed directions (Unpluged power to printer, turn back on, restart computer) brings me to this website after it cannot fix. (Note that while the HPPSDr is running it always notions that there is a driver problem)
Uninstalled Drivers from CD-ROM, re-installed, countless times
Installed "Windows 7 Pro 64 bit drivers" from the HP website and uninstalled, countless times.
Attempted to set a static IP and use "Update IP Address" to point specifically at the printers IP.
Installed Drivers and finding the printer myself through it's own static IP address.
Turned off firewall and attempted to print (after reboot), same errors
Setting up the printer on all of my laptops (3) wirelessly to attempt to find if there is a problem with the printer or static IP. (1 is Windows VISTA 32bit and the other 2 are Ubuntu 32bit). All laptops are able to use the printer wirelessly without any problems.
Read all of the forums about this issue and attempted all of the 'solutions'. Although I mostly don't see that anyone with this same problem is resolved, unless I'm missing the perfect post.
    Things I have not tried:
Plugging the USB directly into the desktop. (This seems self defeating as the purpose for this printer was to be able to print wirelessly to it from across the room)
Re-installed Windows 7 Pro 64bit (Trying to avoid this, would rather just print from laptops)
    You tell me
    Curiosities:
I have noticed strange things that make me believe the driver is somehow incomptable with my OS. Here is a shot of the properties of the printer:
Weird that it is not recognizing the model number.
Also in the Printer Settings when I go to the port tab, there is no port selected, if I try and tab away it forces me to select a port, yet when I do and 'apply' and then re-open the Printer Settings in the ports tab; it has again unselected the previously selected port.
    Theories:
I feel like my OS is just refusing to notice the IP address for the wireless printer, no matter what I have it set to, even if it's dynamic. It's like the driver for Windows 7 Pro 64bit is actually not the correct driver for my system.
Anyways, another thing to mention is that I am not currently willing to wipe my operating system and re-install Windows 7 Pro in order to resolve this just yet. I want to see if anyone else has any other avenues I can try before even beginning to consider that.
Anyways, thanks in advance for taking the time to read my ramblings and hopefully someone who has resolved this issue can help me.

    Hi Zerosouls,
I understand you are having an issue with HP 6600 Scan\Print Driver Issue for Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
First try to click the Windows icon, type services in the Search box, and then click or tap View Local Services. Scroll down to the Windows Installer. Startup type should be - Automatic, and Service Status should be - started

  • Java/ATI driver issue with Minecraft on ArchLinux 64-bit

I am having an issue with Java on ArchLinux. I think it has something to do with my graphics drivers. I have an Alienware M17x R2. Here are my specs:
    Intel Core i7 940XM
    8GB 1333MHz RAM
    Dual ATI 5870M in CrossFireX
    ArchLinux 64-bit
I am using the open source ATI drivers (xf86-video-ati) and everything (ex. desktop compositing) is significantly faster than when I was running catalyst. I get an error when I launch minecraft though. It happens when I launch in the web browser and the jar. I also downloaded the AUR package which is essentially the same as the jar file with a shell script in the bin folder. I have also tried both OpenJDK6 and Oracle JDK/JRE and it happens on both. I have also tried replacing the lwjgl jars and putting the 64 bit so files in /opt/java/lib and renaming them to resemble the 32-bit filenames. Here is the console output from minecraft:

  • I have a windows 7 premium with the 64 bit driver and am having problems with installing itunes, i get an error message that states Apple Application Support is required to run itunes. i have tried 4 times to uninstall and reinstall with no success, help

I have a windows 7 premium laptop, 64 bit driver, have tried to install itunes but recieve an error when trying to open. Error states "Apple Application Support is required to run itunes. uninstall and reinstall again, error 2 (windows error 2). have tried this 4-5 times with no success. help!

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if AAS won't install normally.

  • Windows 7 64 bits driver for hp colour laserjet 2840

Where to find Window 7 64-bit driver for HP Colour LaserJet 2840 all-in-one printer full complete version?

    Hello B-I-F,
The drivers for the HP Color Laserjet 2840 are already "built" into Windows 7. Here is a link regarding how to install them:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?&objectID=c02536257
Also, for future reference, the HP Color LaserJet 2800 All-in-One Printer series are commercial printers. I recommend posting in the forum for HP Business Support for a better chance at finding a solution.
Here is the link to the Commercial Laserjet board:

Please advise how I should proceed now.

    Hello shrijoshi,
I see that you're getting a runtime error when you are trying to install the HP Deskjet F380 on your Windows 7 (64 bit) machine. Please follow the steps listed below:
Hold down the Windows Logo key ( ) on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box, type %temp%

If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe . If you have a non-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe
When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
Follow these steps to reset the registry settings and options for Windows Installer.
Click Start , and then click Run .
In the Open box, type msiexec /unreg, and then click OK .
Click Start , and then click Run .
In the Open box, type msiexec /regserver, and then click OK
Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools

  • FRUSTRATED - windows 7 64 bit driver HP 6500 709e all in one won't install on 2 computers

    Hi,
My son and I both got new laptops for Christmas.  I have had nothing but problems installing our wireless printer with its full features.  My son's computer is a Dell, mine is a Toshiba.  From what I could find both needed the same driver but both have had MAJOR issues getting the install to complete and installing the device. Somehow I was able to get it installed on my Toshiba but the "fix" I used didn't work on the Dell.  PLEASE HELP! Thanks
    Carol
Sorry I realized I did add much information.  The printer is the 6500 all in one deskjet 709e.  I have tried installing the 64 bit, windows 7...i also downloaded the update. Eventually it worked for my Toshiba laptop but still can't get it to install on my son's dell.
    After numerous tries,
I downloaded the driver for windows 7, 64 bit driver and then downloaded the update.  The driver/software wouldn't install the device until I did the update (for my Toshiba) but this is not working for the Dell.  Also I did download the troubleshooter and it was useless!

Welcome to the HP Forums Zoney,
I read your post which indicates that you are getting a "MICROSOFT VISUAL C ++RUNTIME LIBRARY" error, when trying to install the printer software. I can help you with this.
Download and install this Patch> Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error.
    Uninstall the printer software.
Before installing the printer software again, setup the Admin rights on the computer.
Run Command Prompt as Administrator. Go to the start menu, type “CMD” in the search bar. Now, you should see a shortcut for CMD above. Right click on it, and click “run as administrator”. If it asks you for administrative permission, please allow permission. In your Command Prompt window (as administrator), type the following and hit Enter: net user administrator /active:yes
You should see a message saying "the command completed successfully". After troubleshooting is done, you can disable this account by typing the following command into Command Prompt (as administrator): net user administrator /active:no.
Restart the computer, and utilize the new account that is available, which should be named "Administrator".
Here are some more steps you can try if you are still getting the Runtime error.
But it is looking more like a Operating System issue.
Download and install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010, 2008 and 2005 Redistributable Packages.
You will find the download links to these packages below:
    2005 - http://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=26347

    2010 - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14632
    Try the installation again please.

Don't turn on your computer anymore.
Take your computer to a professional who can possibly recover whatever data may be recoverable on your hard drive. Tell the professional the software you downloaded that started causing the problem regarding the "Windows not genuine" message appearing
so the professional removes that software from the recovery if they can.
The professional will be able to diagnose what the issue with the harddrive or your computer is. Possibly the hard drive is failed and no data can be recovered from it. Possibly something on the laptops motherboard is bad so the hard drive can not be accessed.
The laptop may need a new hard drive. Which may require the professional to install Windows 64 bit OS on the new harddrive.
    Plan to spend money.
May be cheaper to buy new laptop and throw old laptop away.
Don't install that software on your laptop again.

  • Premiere Pro CS4 eats my C: drive in Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP1

I installed Premiere Pro CS4 this last weekend 11-12 April 2009.
    I have a Quadcore 3.0GHz with 8Gb of RAM, a 150Gb C: drive fo rthe op sys Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP1 and programs, a 500Go D: drive for general data and a K: drive 2Tb RAID0 volume useable about 1.8Gb.
My C: drive was healthy after installation of Premiere Pro with tens of gigabytes free at least. Then I started experimenting with building projects. I put my files on a mix of the D: and K: drives especially the AVCHD video assets on the K:.
While importing these AVCHD assets I eventually got a message from Vista that the C: drive was full and I did a clean up and that gave approximetely 30Gb free, I went back to importing, in a couple of hours the 30Gb was gone, this can only be Premiere Pro CS4 eating the C: drive and never returning what it takes. This of course is a disaster precisely because it is my op sys drive and Vista will periodically want to make new restore points especially before applying downloaded updates from Microsoft. I ahve run also chkdsk and defragmenter with no effect. I think Premiere Pro is using some sort of secret work files on the C: drive somewhere and that they just accumulate, of course this would be a bug.
Support Center does not appear to let me open web support issues even though we are in the 90-day bug fix period and I have registered the product with the product key so that is another bug that gets in the way of fixing the first.
    Any ideas please?
    Thanks!
    Peter.

Yeah, I did not take backups that often cos I did not intend putting the machine onto the net, then I got this device that said it would protect against everything by isolating my machine and making it invisible, I await the analysis by the company but it does appear not to have worked, the only thing that works is very real physical isolation and do not use the internet at all from the main machine. Like I say it simply is not confirmed yet but neither is it denied. You cannot actually go so far as to blame Adobe because stopping hackers is the job of the op sys vendor really so I blame Microsoft, the only blame for Adobe is the policy that some functions require internet connection in order to work when they know internet is not secure, so for instance if you want to use the emulators for things like these mobile phones they want you to be connected, I tried that one phone emulator and it said so, I wish they just put all documentation and all software on the DVD. I can roll back to an earlier Vista version from a USB backup disk that is always powered off, then rebuild as necessary, but I want the security firm to see if it is a trojan in fact first and to see if it can upgrade the security device and provide a roll out of the trojan's work. Right now I am still scripting the documentary and this second quarter is getting this Premiere Pro up ready for third quarter production so I can be philosophical for now, but yes later I will get more disciplined. But at least now I (almost) know the security device is not the all singing wonder they said it was. Oh well. I use a second machine too, a PS3 with Linux, that is what I am using now, this one doesn't seem to get hacked even though it is my sacrificial machine.

Adobe deserves criticism for its shoddy QC, but not for maing you exposing your main machine at risk on the internet. I never do that, and I never have had a virus or malware on it--never in all the years I've been doing this. I have picked up a few on my internet machine, though, but they are easily fixed with the security scheme I use.
As for restore points possibly eating up disk space, which you alluded to earlieranother never for me. Restore points are a half assed measure at best. My security system is a full clone backup of my C drive starting the day I install and OS on it, and every time I add add a program, and every day when I am working a big complex project. Otherwise, once a week. It takes a few minutes only. That way I can restore everything in equally few minutes should anything bad happen, like poorly designed software affecting other software, a virus, malware, etc, and including drive failurewhich has happened twice over the years.
Don't get me wrong, a virus checker is very useful to a point, but real security design has to start long before you install one, especially if your machine is the heart of your business, as it is for me. What is that old saying? An ounce of prevention is worth..........

  • Aceeca 64 bit driver w/ Palm Desktop OS 4.2 & Windows OS 8.1

I was able to Hotsync, using USB, with my Palm TX for the first time on my Windows 8.1 laptop using Aceeca 64 bit driver. I love my Palm TX, and I can now use it again with my PC.
However, when I Hotsync, I get one shot and then a reboot is required in order to repeat.  Upon reboot, I receive the Windows message "The selected port, COM1, is not available at this time.  Hotsync Manager will open port when it becomes available".  The Hotsync icon appears in the notification area, and I am able to Hotsync.  Then the icon vanishes, and I have to start the process over again--reboot.
Is there something I can do so I don't have to reboot my computer for every Hotsync?
