32bit client on windows 2003 server R2 64bit running oracle 10g release 2

Hello,
could you please help me ?
I have a windows 2003 r2 sp2 64 bit server on witch oracle 10g release 2 64 bit is installed.
So far no issue.
I need to have a 32bit client installed on the same server to be able to run some applications on the server, but my applications won't start telling me that TNS could not resolve the connect identifier specified.
my tnsnames.ora seem correct both in the db_1\network\admin directory and in client_1db_1\network\admin directory.
both Sqlplus(client_1 10.2.0.1 and db_1 10.2.0.3) return a connection.
I don't know where the problem could be coming from
Thanks a lot

It is really, Really, REALLY difficult to fix a problem that can not be seen.

ECC 5 is based on kernel 6.40 which is not (yet) released for Windows 2008.
See also note 1054740 - SAP System Installation on Windows Server 2008
I would recommend installing on Windows 2003 and later upgrade your system to Windows 2008 when kernel 6.40 is available.

I know that oracle client 9.2.0 is too old but company about i work have tests which run on this systemIf you are stuck using antiquated versions of software, the company really ought to stick to antiquated versions of the operating system as well. Trying to combine versions of the Oracle client that weren't even certified on Windows 2003 with a bleeding edge Windows 2012 system is a recipe for pain and suffering. Even if you appear to get things working, there are any number of bugs that will likely crop up over time due to the massive version incompatibility.
If i understood right i can't make connection between oracle 9.2.0 32 bit client installed on windows 2012 to connect to oracle server 10 i?As others have pointed out, you probably can though you'll need to change the firewall rules. As others have stated, the firewall changes you'll need to make should probably be the same for a 9.2 client and a 10.2 client. But if you're determined to work with highly unsupported combinations of software, you're likely to have to embrace the idea that you're going to be blazing some new trails and that you'll have to spend a decent amount of time debugging issues that arise from your very unique combination.

  • Connect to sql server 2008R2 64bit  from oracle 10g (10.2.0.4)

    Hi
My requirement is to connect SQL server 2008 R2 64bit to oracle 10.2.0.4.0. and get the data from the SQL database. The SQL server database is located in a remote server. Please let me know the most suitable method to connect.
Oracle database is running in Red hat Linux 4 enterprise edition 32bit version.
    Regards
    Pramuditha

    Pramuditha,
I assume that your Oracle database should be the driving site that pushes and pulls the data from/to the SQL Server.
Here Oracle offers 2 different products, a Database Gateway for ODBC and a Database Gateway for MS SQl Server which both give you the opportunity to define a database link to a MS SQL Server and to integrate it into the Oracle database.
More details can be found on the My Oracle Support portal (support.oracle.com), then check out the Gateway Master Note:
Master Note for Oracle Gateway Products (Doc ID 1083703.1)
The note contains links to other content which gives you an overview about the options you have to connect to a foreign database:
Document 233876.1 Options for Connecting to Foreign Data Stores and Non-Oracle Databases - For example - DB2, SQL*Server, Sybase, Informix, Teradata, MySQL
and it also explains the functional and licensing differences of the Database Gateway for ODBC and the other gateways:
Document 252364.1 Functional Differences Between Generic Connectivity and Database Gateways
Document 232482.1 Gateway and Generic Connectivity Licensing Considerations
Once you decided which gateway you want to use you can also find the configuration notes linked to the Gateway Master Note.

Maybe just some words about the versions:
Your Oracle database release 10.2.0.4 is certified with the currently latest Oracle database Gateway release 11.2.0.3 (DG4ODBC and also DG4MSQL). When you decide to use DG4MSQL, then the 11.2.0.3 release is also certified for SQL Server 2008, when you plan to use DG4ODBC you need to find a suitable 3rd party ODBC driver that is certified with MS SQl Server 2008.

  • Firefox 3.5 and Apex 3.2 on Windows 2003 Server 32-Bit using Oracle 9.2.0.8

I can't seem to use firefox at all. IE works like a champ, but I get nothing from firefox, just the web page with an iconless login which doesn't do anything when I try to log in.

Interesting. I've been using APEX 3.2 with Firefox 3.5 for several months now without any issues and I know several other developers doing the same. Can you test it from another client machine to see if it's something with the PC or the install of Firefox? You might also try [a href="http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable"]Firefox 3.5 Portable[a], as it will basically give you a clean, fresh install of 3.5 without uninstalling your current 3.5. Just make sure you close all instances of Firefox before you start up the portable one.
On a totally unrelated note, just wanted to make sure you know the 9.2 is no longer a supported database (unless you pay for extended support) and the upcoming 4.0 release of APEX will not work with 9.2 at all.

  • NTLM module for oracle 10g Release 2 Apache on Windows 2003

    Hi,
I want to implement autologon on my HTML DB application depending on the Windows username. I understand that I can implement this feature with the Apache module modntlm.
Is there anyone who has got this working on Windows 2003 Server in combination with Oracle 10g Release 2 Apache on Windows 2003.
Which version NTLM software do I need and where can I download the version for Windows 2003 server?

Nothing fantastic, we have the username/id passed in from the linking application (company intranet) as part of the URL. The process is invisible to the end-user. Possibly not ideal if you want really tight security/authentication, but it was sufficient for our needs, and the problems we had previously where users were unable to use the application have disappeared. I'd like to know the reasons for the problems we had with mod_ntlm (running on AIX), but it was more important to
me to deliver a working app than to spend time resolving probelms in 3rd party software.
    Cheers.

  • Install 16 bit Oracle client on Win 2003 server

    Hello,
Is it possible to install Oracle SQL* Net 2.3(16 bit) Client on Windows 2003 server. If it is then could someone give me links from where I could get more information on this (like the steps to install 16 bit Oracle client on Win 2003).
    Thanks.

the 16-bit applications are not supported by Windows 2003 server x64 edition.

I have never tried to use 16-bit SQLNet client on Windows 2003 x86. I'm pretty sure that this combination will not be supported by Oracle , athough it could work.
As far as I remember the 2.3 client was shipped with the Oracle 7.3.

  • Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition,  Oracle process needs 5 Gb memory

    Hi
Actually i'm under Windows 2003 server Standard Edition and Oracle Standard 9.2.0.6.
I need to have for my oracle process (User Process) a large amount of memory. (>= 5 Gb) probably 3 Gb for the PGA and 2 Gb for the SGA. (roughly).
I'm looking on AWE 4GT etc... Microsoft is'nt clear about this.
People with a similar experiment? Is it necessary to migrate under Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edittion ?
All informations and experiences are welcome.
    Regards
    Den

Before considering ways to overcome process addressing limits (32-bit process virtual address space), Windows Server Std Ed can use/see maximum 4 GB RAM. You cant fit 5GB Oracle Server memory + other stuff + OS in that. I guess your only options are EE 32-bit or Std Ed x64, if you have the hardware.
But, staying on the 32-bit path, it will be hard to achieve confilicting objects of large memory areas. Remember that process virtual space is 4GB regardless of how much RAM the hardware (and OS) can manage.

  • OO4O on 64bit Windows 2003 Server

Is it possible to install OO4O on 64bit Windows 2003 Server SP1?

We have an application that uses OO4O and I am also trying to create a new workstation image using Vista 64-bit and have found roadblocks. The setup instructions for the application have one install the Oracle 9i client, of which is not compatible with Vista or 64-bit OSes. So I decided to try the 10g client for Vista and 2008 64-bit. Got it installed, but when I try to install the application, it tells me it needs Oracle Objects for OLE. After much research, it seems that there is no version of OO4O that will work with 64-bit Vista. Is that true? If so, is Oracle working on OO4O for Windows 64-bit OSes or have they given up permanently? And finally, is there any non-supported workaround to get OO4O to install and run on 64-bit Vista?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Oracle 9i Installation on Windows 2003 Server 64bit - URGENT

    Hi ,
I am installing oracle 9i on win 2003 server (64 bit) enterprise edition. After the installation whenever I try to run Database Configuration Assistant or Net configuration assistant nothing happens.
If i run DBCA on command line then it runs but not from the Start menu. Can anyone suggest the solution ? I tested it with oracle 9i (32 bit) and (64bit) versoins for win2003 server platform. But same results. Also tried the oracle 32 bit for XP on windows 2003 server but in vain.
It seems like there is PATH problem but i checked all the paths and they seem preety okay. I wonder why it runs from the command line when I recall dbca.bat file and not from the Oracle menu.
I would appreciate any remedy to this problem

I hate to be a wet blanket, but this forum is for feedback about the OTN site. The best place for your current thread is in the Database Installation:

  • VPN client using CLI on windows 2003 server

Hello, first time poster here. Have an interesting issue I'm hoping to find help with.
I'm using the VPN client (I have version 4.8.01.0300) in CLI mode (called from a script) to connect to a remote site. Got the connection setup and all working fine except for one small detail. Hopefully I can explain this well...
I want this connection to run fully unattended as it will run numerous times per day, every day. The issue is the little pop-up message saying "VPN has disconnected".
When I first setup the connection, it was on windows XP and everything was golden. I could issue the command : vpnclient connect <name> user <userid> pwd <passwd> sd, <other stuff>, vpnclient disconnect and all worked as expected.
Then I installed same stuff on Windows 2003 server. Issuing same connect command gives error: "user authentication failed". Then I discovered that if I first launched the vpn client GUI then the CLI command, it would connect without error - but then the "disconnected" pop-up window came along.
    So - can I either:
    - Run vpn client in CLI mode without the GUI running.
    - Suppress the pop-up.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Thank you for the post.
Please try register MSI installer or clean boot your system to install FEP client.
Registered MSI Installer following the steps below:
1.Run "cmd"--Browse to the "%systemroot%\system32" directory and execute: "msiexec /regserver"
2.Change directories to "%systemroot%\SysWow64" and execute: "msiexec /regserver"
    3.Reboot the server

  • Oracle 10g Universe Connectivity From 64bit Windows 2003 Server

    Hi,
Have an existing BO XI 3.1 environment built on a 64 bit Windows 2003 server and
I'm having problems getting it to communicate with Oracle 10g universes.  Works fine
with its SQL Server 2005 repository and SQL Server 2005 relational/olap universes, but
cant seem to get it to work with Oracle.
Universes work fine on the 32 bit development environment talking to the same Oracle
database, but when move them to 64 bit testing environment they all fail with
    Oracle ora-12154 errors.
32 bit Oracle client is installed and can communicate fine with other products using ODBC
connections from the server - but BO refuses to communicate.
Any ideas other than reinstalling BO under 'Program Files' rather than 'Program Files (x86)'
as I've seen some references on the web about this possibly being a problem?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Oracle 32 bit and 64 bit connectivity work fine from the server.  The problem seems to
relate to bug 3807408 in Oracle 10g that cant handle parentheses in directory names.
So BO being installed in u2018C:\Program Files (x86)\Business Objectsu2019 causes it to get
    rather annoyed.
SAP Note 1202730 does cover this, but our DBA's aren't too keen on installing the
suggested patch.  I'm also not very keen on reinstalling BO in a different directory as
we've got working production sites that would have to be rebuilt.
So now investigating whether using the Oracle 11g client will resolve this.
MSDN forum topic http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/sqlintegrationservices/thread/ab662d63-6385-4f73-b27f-d526048f601f/  gives a pretty good overview of what people have been trying to resolve this.
