32bit Oracle on Windows 2008 64bit ?

Firstly, sorry, but this is an elementary question...which versions/combinations of Windows Server 2008 and Oracle 10gR2 are "officially" supported ?
I understand that Oracle 64bit 10.2.0.4 is supported for 64bit Windows Server 2008 R1 (SP1 or SP2).
Similarly 32bit 10.2.0.4 on 32bit Windows Server 2008 R1 (SP1 or SP2).
Is 10.2.0.4 supported for Windows Server 2008 R2, which I understand is 64bit only ?
Is there any support (or even a mechanism) for running a 32bit version of 10.2.0.4 on a 64bit Windows Server 2008 (R1 or R2) ?
For example, we were able to get a 32bit ODBC stack connect to a 64bit instance of 10.2.0.4 on a 64bit Windows Server 2008 R1 machine....I'm realizing with our product we may need to support a 32bit 10.2.0.4 instance. Obviously not desirable or even logical, but a necessary stopgap. But I'm thinking while it is possible to get certain 32bit apps to run in a 64bit OS, I'm not sure Oracle can.
Any info, insights etc would be much appreciated. Am happy to rtfm if anyone can pass me references...

Is 10.2.0.4 supported for Windows Server 2008 R2, which I understand is 64bit only ?If i am remember correctly - no. But 10g R2 ist certified for Windows 2008.
Is there any support (or even a mechanism) for running a 32bit version of 10.2.0.4 on a 64bit Windows Server 2008 (R1 or R2) ?Mixing architectures (o/s and database) is not supported in any way.
But I'm thinking while it is possible to get certain 32bit apps to run in a 64bit OS, I'm not sure Oracle can.32-bit CLIENTS on 64-bit operating system are supported afaik. At the moment i am unable to login to metalink but as long as it is client-only you can use the 32-bit client on 64-bit operating system fully supported.

  • X200 with Windows 2008 64bit

    Can someone give me some hint on how to resolve this issue?
    I bought the X200 and installed Windows Vista 64 bit without a problem. I am now creating a VM with Windows 2008 64bit but received this message after installation and reboot: "Attempting to load a 64-bit application, however this CPU is not compatible with 64-bit mode."
    The CPU is Intel P8600 which is 64-bit compatible. Why did Vista 64-bit install and run properly and not Windows 2008?
    Thanks !

    I found the answer to my question on this blog...

    Basically, yes with VMWARE only, not MS VPC...

  • Performance problems on a Oracle 11G with Windows 2008 64bits.

    Hi everyone,
    I have noticed that our db is going low and low every week. My server has 16GB RAM and 10GB are dedicated to the Oracle database, this is a 11.2.0.1 with Windows 2008 R2 SP1 64bits. I like to know acording to the nexts values what you guys recommend to adjust in the init.ora:
    orcl.__db_cache_size=5402263552
    orcl.__java_pool_size=33554432
    orcl.__large_pool_size=33554432
    orcl.__pga_aggregate_target=3657433088
    orcl.__sga_target=6878658560
    orcl.__shared_io_pool_size=0
    orcl.__shared_pool_size=1308622848
    orcl.__streams_pool_size=33554432
    *.memory_target=10511974400
    *.open_cursors=5000
    *.optimizer_mode='RULE'
    *.processes=300
    Acording to the memory target on how values can be increased the processes, pga_agregate_target, etc.
    Also we have problems related to the bug Bug 9593134 that “Connections to Oracle 11g are slow and can take anywhere from 10 seconds to 2 minutes.” there is a fix on linux by removing the dns names on it but anyone have experience on windows platforms?
    Thanks for all and sorry for my english.
    Regards.

    Regarding the long connection times, have you tried using network packet capture software (such as Wireshark) to determine what the client computer is doing when a connection attempt is initiated?
    The Oracle Database time model statistics, along with the system wide wait events may help you diagnose the non-connection related performance issues (you should not just look at the statistics, but instead capture the current values, wait a period of time, capture the statistics again, and compare the changes in the statistic values). A statspack report might also help you - but a 10046 trace at level 8 or 12 is more appropriate if you are able to identify a couple of sessions that experience performance problems.
    I do not suggest just blindly modifying parameters, although I am curious to know:
    * Why the session level parameter OPEN_CURSORS is set to 5000 - do you expect a single session to hold open 5,000 cursors?
    * Why are you using the deprecated RULE based optimizer?
    * Why is the MEMORY_TARGET parameter used when the SGA_TARGET and PGA_AGGREGATE target are specified?

  • BI publisher installation on Windows 2008 64bit sever

    Hello, everyone
    I need simple installation direction about BI Publisher version 11.1.1.3 onto Windows 2008 64 bit server with Oracle 11g database and Apex 4.0. More I read the installation, more I am confused. The document ID: E10539-01 is very confused to me. Sorry. The 32bit server with BI Publisher version 10.1.3.4.1 is much easier to set up.
    Thanks in advance.
    Tigerwapa

    Thank you Tony,
    Sorry about the name spelling. English is not easy. :-)
    The instruction for install and configure the PDF Printing is very similar between Apex3.0 and Apex 4.0. But, you do need to install BI publisher on one of the server and set up the port like 9704. What happen is we have a brand new 64 bit server with Windows 2008. The BI publisher previous version (was for 32 bit) will not install on 64bit server and having error message due to fail requirement.
    And BI Publisher 11g is a total different game. After read the installation doc., I am more confused.
    Right now, I was able to change the new server REPORT PRINTING to point to the other server (previously working). It is ok for now. I had posted to the BI forum and to see what responses I will get.
    Thank you very much.

  • Running Oracle on Windows 2008 R2 64-bits and WCF

    I'm trying to deploy to a Windows 2008 R2 64-Bits server running AppFabric a WCF 4.0 service that connects to an Oracle 10gR2 database. On my Windows 7 64-Bits, inside Visual Studio 2010, everything goes well. I first started using Oracle ODP.NET and, on deploy, I started getting the:
    System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'Oracle.DataAccess, Version=2.112.2.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89b483f429c47342' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
    File name: 'Oracle.DataAccess, Version=2.112.2.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89b483f429c47342'
    I tried so many things, and nothing seemed to work, and since I'm kinna desperate to get this working, and went to OracleClient, despite the fact that it's marked as deprecated, just to get this working, and buy me time. I removed everything I had installed, but installed just the win64_11gR2_client.zip, with the runtime option. However, than I started getting:
    System.DllNotFoundException: Unable to load DLL 'oramts.dll': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E)
    So I reinstalled the win64_11gR2_client.zip, adding the Oracle Services for Microsoft Transaction Server component. But then, whenever I made a call to my WCF service, IIS would crash with the error below:
    Faulting application name: w3wp.exe, version: 7.5.7601.17514, time stamp: 0x4ce7afa2
    Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.1.7601.17514, time stamp: 0x4ce7c8f9

    Report Id: 7630c4b0-7707-11e0-8419-00155d010609
    If I tried to change the AppPool to enable 32-bits application, the WSDL doesn't even get generated, and I get the:
    A process serving application pool 'MyAppPool' suffered a fatal communication error with the Windows Process Activation Service. The process id was '2856'. The data field contains the error number.
    I'm lost, and I don't know what to do. How can it be this hard to do a "simple" and typical Oracle set up? What problem would I try to solve? Does anyone know of a blog post that would show how to correctly set this up? I tried looking, but coudln't find anything, and I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem
    Well, any help would be really appreciated. Tks so much

    Supported on Win 2008 R2 64bit is only 10gR2( with patchset level 10.2.0.5) and 11gR2. Oracle support will refuse any assistance for earlier versions, that should you keep in mind. Although some people say client is not so critical as the database server.

  • New Installation of SM to Window-2008 64bit

    Hi all,
    I'm facing problem trying to install SM7 to Window Server 2008 (64 bit edition).
    When I was installing SM7, I was prompt that Oracle wasnt install and I was force to install Oracle first before continuing with the SM7 installation. When I attempt to install Oracle using sapserver.cmd, I encounter the problem where my OS (6.1) is not supported.
    Following snote#980426, I disable the Pre-requisition check for Oracle installation (version 10.2 - downloaded from SAP marketplace). Now, I can execute sapserver.cmd and key in the directory of installation and SID.
    However, when Oracle Universal Installer appear, I encounter this error "Abnormal Program Termination" and the installer exited.
    I have check SAP marketplace and notice that Oracle RDBMS 10.2 are the only offered for download. Likewise, in Oracle website, it was mention that ver-10.2 is not support for 64bit processing and request to upgrade to 11g.
    Now, I'm confuse as to how I should proceed.
    Please help & advice.
    Thank you. and regards.

    Dear Sek Yao Ooi
    Is your version of WIndows 2008 server R2?
    If you are upgrading to SM 7.0 then there is the media for Windows 2008 with 64 bit Oracle 10.2, but then there is a second distribution for Windows 2008 R2. Which one did you actually download and what is the Release of Windows Server 2008?
    Is it R1 or R2? You will need to verify which version of Wondows 2008 server you have and that you have indeed downloaded the correct media for the Release level of the WIndows Server 2008.
    Also ther eis SM 7.0 EHP1, this is also a different distribution media set. So you have to be very specific when selecting the Media. I know the combination is supported, so either you have downloaded the wrong media or, there is another issue causing the error, in which case anymore information that may be available, that you have not provided, could be helpful.

  • 32bit Oracle ODBC Driver on 64bit RHEL 5.9 system

    I am using unixODBC as my driver manager and 32 bit Oracle Client/Driver on Linux RHEL 5.9 64bit OS.  I cannot seem to get a successful test with isql with 32bit ODBC Driver, i get success with 64bit ODBC Driver.

    It is possible to get 32bit drivers to work on 64bit OS as long as the application you're using is 32bit.
    Did you make sure that your unxiODBC driver manager is 32bit, that you have specified the 32bit libraries (also the 32bit Oracle client) in your LD_LIBRARY_PATH and that you're also using the 32bit isql?
    What's the error message you're getting?

  • Oracle for Windows 2008 R2

    Hi,

    Checking operating system version: must be  5.1 or 5.2 .    Actual 6.1

    Can someone give me advise for this.
    Thanks.

    Hi,

    Beware that for Windows 2008 R2 you need at least 10.2.0.4. Install 10.2.0.3 found on technet and upgrade from Metalink Patch.

  • Memory leak running 32bit app in Windows 7 64bit

    I have an app that does not show signs of memory leakage (I'm queuing up 10mb arrays, and dequeuing them to file) under a standard 32bit operating system.  I've since tried running it in Windows 7 64 bit (as a 32 bit process using Labview 32-bit runtime engine) and noticed memory is incrementing.
    Program takes 300Mb of memory.  If I save 100Mb of data to a file, will windows 7 64bit show this as 400Mb of memory (under windows on windows 32 bit)?  I don't think it would, but you never know...
    Are there any bugs in Labview 2010 with regards to queuing and windows 64 bit?  I'm tracking my Queue usage and it isn't increasing, thus no real reason for it to increase in memory allocation.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    So this is something you observed.....by chance?
    Why is the memory "growth" a concern for you?
    As 32bit can allocate up to 2(3) GB of RAM per application process, memory is very limited, hence any application has to work very restrictive with memory.
    64-bit can allocate several TB of RAM (possibly reduced limited provided by the OS, but still more likely in the TB range rather than GB), an application doesn't need to be conservative.
    So it is possible that the OS Task Manager shows increased memory consuption, but as long as performance is not affected, it doesn't hurt anyone.

  • Connect from VBA 64 bit to Oracle from windows 7 64bit

    Hi,
    We are trying to connect from Autocad VBA 64 bit to Oracle 10g server from windows 7 64bit OS.
    Toad can connect to Oracle without any issue.
    I installed 10g 32 bit client and 11g 64 bit client.
    Please help me in installing and configuring any 64 bit provider to connect from vba. I tried ODAC but not any success until now.
    Regards,
    Shijith

    Hi Jenny,
    Thanks for replaying in quick time.
    I had solved my issue by installing the following.
    1) Oracle forms 6i
    2) Oracle 11g 32 bit client
    3) Oracle 11g 64 bit client
    4) ODAC 11g 32 bit
    5) ODAC 11g 64 bit
    And able to get a sucessful connection with the following connection string.
    Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle;Password=dddd;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=dddd;Data Source=ddddd
    Is there is any better way to do it? It is realy pitty that we have to install more than 2GB of client coponents to get a oracle connection from client side.
    Please suggest a best practice.

    Did you upgrade from 32bit?
    Did you swap the Fn keys with the Ctrl keys? If you did, you might want to go back to BIOS and swap it back. Or you can do a BIOS reset to be sure.
