3D content on Satellite L770-12F

Hi,
I've just got a Satellite L770-12F and noticed it plays 3D Blu-Rays. Can any one tell me what type of glasses I need to use to view them?
I'm pretty sure I need the liquid crystral active shutter type but would just like a comfirmation before I splash the cash on some.
Thanks

Im not expert for 3D content but, is your Satellite designed for 3D (display)?
As far as I know you need external device like NVIDIA 3D Vision Kit but notebooks display must be the right one.

  • Re: Satellite P500-12F - Can't install new nVidia display driver

    Good evening,
I am sorry for a stupid question, but I just do not know what to do. I have Satellite P500-12F.
I wanted to download newer graphics drivers for the NVidia card, so I went to the NVidia website and downloaded a new driver, which is dated back to December 2009, instead of mine, which is of July 2009 However, when I try to install it, the system says that theya are no hardware which is compatible with the new driver.
Could you tell me, what am I doing wrong? I could use any guidance as well. Thank you very much!

I have deleted the pre-installed graphic driver, and tried to replace it with a newer driver from the NVidia site. The installation was not successful, and now, thanks to You, I know why. I have already went to the Toshiba site and downloaded the driver from HERE .
I have installed it, and everything goes well, as it used to be. Could You tell me, is the driver which I have installed from the Toshiba site the newest one? And how often do they update this kind of laptop drivers?
Thank You all for Your help, it is really valuable for me! :)

    Hey guys,
    Here are the laptop specs:
TOSHIBA Satellite Series P200D-12F Notebook - AMD Turion 64 X2 Processor TL-62 2.1GHz 2MB Cache, 2048MB DDR2-667 SO-Dimm Memory (2x1024), DVD Super Multi writer optical drive, 250 GB SATA, 5400 obr/min, 17.1" WXGA+ TrueBright High Brightness (1440x900 resolution) TFT LCD Display, 10/100 Mbit Ethernet LAN, 802.11b/g wireless LAN, 56K Modem, ATI Radeon HD2600 256MB dedicated graphics, Built-in Harman Kardon stereo speakers, 3.45kg, Bluetooth, integrated webcam, Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition, 2 Year International Warranty
I cant find any threads or sites that define idle temp for this cpu and graphic card,
in normal stance and high performance/ playing games.
I have an extra cooler (link: http://www.mimovrste.com/artikel/2210016012/hladilnik-za-prenosnik-akasa-ak-nbc-02b ) underneath the laptop. It does help much but still its running on *53C* (celsius) while surfing the internet.
Without that cooler its around 60C. It sounds strange to me.
When i play games on high performance the core temp goes to *63C*, without that xtra coller *+80C!!!!!!*
I clean the heat sinks every 1 month with a huge compressor :)
I dont let any dust in there. I have the laptop like a year now runs great, but still Im interested whats the temperature of our similar models.
I had some "turn off problems" when i didnt have the extra cooler, but now it runs great, but still im not convinced its the "normal" temp. :S
So plz help a lost soul surfing the internet finding nothing to answer his question :)
    tnx

    heya
the problem is i hate vista :) i have installed xp on it. there are no xp drivers for this laptop. i mixed with some similar models same components xp drivers and everything is working well now ;) no yellow thingies in the system window - hardware components. all cool. all games running with no artifact and no weird thingies.
but still im interested in the temperature.
i installed the old Toshiba power saver (win xp) works fine but i dont see any difference with it. no effect. cooling method is on high(as it was on the begging) and no changes. i hoped the vents gonna speed up just a lil bit . but didnt.
how the temp sound to u? high or ok? for an AMD cpu :) the gfx is at 29C :) the cpu runs at 50C surfing internet , while playing games it goes to 63C.

  • Satellite L770 - I cannot find an adobepdf.dll

    Hello
I've just taken delivery of a L770 laptop and am now busy installing my programs.
Adobe Acrobat Professional v8.00 asks for adobepdf.dll to be installed from the Windows Vista CD-Rom, which I don't have because this laptop has Windows 7 Home edition 64 bit installed.
I cannot find an adobepdf.dll on this computer, nor rather worryingly can I find any cab files. I did not receive a windows cd as I did with my first Toshiba laptop many years ago - am I now stuck?
I thought that all computers had to have the windows files supplied?
    regards
    Denise

Of course you cannot be happy with that but adobepdf.dll is not a part of the Windows OS and the Acrobat Pro was not a part of the image so I assume the Acrobat Pro has to be installed once again in order to include this
Did you check the solution provided by Adobe?
Did you check the link above?
    *Solution for Windows 7 64-bit*
+Manually extract the file "adobepdf.dll_64" from the data1.cab file before installing Acrobat. When the prompt appears, navigate to this file and select it.+
+1. Navigate to the folder that contains the setup.exe file for your Acrobat 8 installation.+
+2. Locate the file "data1.cab" and open it (this may require a third party compression utility, such as WinZip).+
+3. Inside the content listings, locate the file "adobepdf.dll_64" and copy it to your desktop.+
+4. Run the installer setup.exe and when the prompt appears, choose browse and select the file you copied to the desktop.+
+Note: If the file cannot be selected, change the file type drown down in the dialog box to "Files of All Types", or rename the file to "adobepdf.dll" by removing "_64" from the end of the file extension.+

  • Satellite L770 - ethernet adapter has stopped working

    HI
I have three laptops all connectable to my home hub, but I seem to be having serious problems with the latest model, the L770-13D. The signal strength has never been as good as the older models and just recently the Ethernet adapter has stopped working. I've updated drivers on both adapters but it hasn't made any difference. I've just recently upgraded my connection and I'm wondering whether the Ethernet adapter is not correctly configured since it was working alright prior to the upgrade.
I've also tried just about every test that I can do - The Toshiba config doctor returned a FAIL on the hardware check I did, but the device manager reports that both network adapters are working OK. Also, the troubleshooting of the wireless adapter reports that there 'may be a problem' The evidence seems to be pointing towards a hardware problem with this laptop.
    Any thoughts?

    HI Dr Lamp,
No I haven't tried that probably because I wouldn't know how to do it. I have a full recovery image on the data drive but I'm not comfortable with making any changes to the OS in case I mess things up. I've also got a recovery flash drive. Really, I'm out of my depth when it comes to making these sort of changes - I just thought that there may be something very simple that I'd overlooked. The machine is still under warranty, so I'll probably take it to a local computer specialist for diagnosis before involving Toshiba. If it's more than a software problem, they should earn their fees by repairing it. If you involve them and it isn't a hardware problem, they will bill you for about 80 plus carriage, so I'm naturally reluctant to do that. Also, you have to hang about waiting for delivery and collection. It may better to buy a USB/LAN adapter for about 20. Thanks for reply, anyhow.

  • Satellite L770 keeps turning itself off

Hi to all on the forum,
I'm hoping someone can shed light on an issue I'm having...
My L770 is only a few months old and up until recently has been a fine performer - fast smooth and reliable.
Until recently that was when now, it switches itself off at what seems to be random intervals from the initial start up - anywhere from just a few minutes or even up to several hours.
There will be times when I'll be working away, usually just on an email or a spreadsheet, perhaps with some music playing in the background and then... The screen just goes COMPLETELY BLANK and all the lights indicate it is no longer running with merely the power and battery lights remaining illuminated....
If I attempt an immediate re-start it will mostly be unsuccessful, often requiring five or six attempts, where the computer starts, maybe gets to the password screen or sometimes actually loads the desktop screeen and then... It will drop out again.... Although once actually running and settled again it run for another few hours.
Sometimes on reboot I get a blue screen with one of two messages which are:
    1) stop: C000021a (ftal system error)
    start status 0x00000001 (0XC 0000001, 0X00100600)
    or
    2) 0X000000f4 (0X00000003, 0X8DC441E0, 0X 8Dc4434C, 0X89A2ECF0)
I've tried restoring to an earlier time, tried with the charger off and just running on battery it makes no difference. I'm not running any programs requiring massive amount of resources, I really under utilize the capability of this machine.
I mention this because I've read this could be a heat issue so I downloaded a core temperature reader/logger and that's indicating the occasional sojourn to 91 degrees C which quite surprised me but I don't know what would be considered critical AND the most usual time for this matter to occur is in the early hours of the morning when nothing's really going on, everything's just in standby... I might mention also that although I travel a lot by aircraft between my work in Australia and my home in northern Thailand that usually the computer operates in an air-conditioned room...
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Victor.

Interestingly I had another "event" tonight...
It took six re-boots to get up and running and that was about an hour ago....
I looked through event logs and I can find ONE critical temperature event that caused a shut-down but that was a month ago...
Now this has happened about twice per night over the past few nights and I've had a time to notice a few things, I can tell when the re-boot is not going to work because it's very slow to load up the OS when it's not going to "take" successfully...
I always thought the HDD was very noisy, even from new, I'm wondering whether I've just struck a bad one?
I also notice (in the abnormally quiet environment I find myself in at the moment), the fan is very intermittent on start-up. I would have thought if my problem was heat related that the fan would come on constantly in an attempt to lower the temp?
I'd love to think it's something so simple as dirty cooling fins but I'm reluctant to pull it apart to clean as it's under warrant and I'll get it looked at in a few weeks when I'm back to civilization. It's a bit of a pain right now as I'm out in the middle of the desert about a gazillion kilometres from anywhere.
Although I'm a little disappointed, I've always been a Toshiba notebook user from the very beginning (think monochrome screens) and Toshies have always been reliable for me, I just hope I can get this sorted.

  • Satellite C870D-12F won't boot Win8

    Hi
My Satellite won't boot (windows 8) anymore, and I'm also not able to reset to factory settings.
The harddisk is still ok if I put it in another PC I can see all the partitions.
Does anyone sees something wrong in the partition type or properties?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Kindest regards
+Message was edited: part of the message has been removed+

    Hi All
No help was afforded ,so I fixed it myself!! And WITHOUT the recovery medium.
I installed windows 8.1 again from a downloaded iso (I didn't had a key for this version).
Now I had an unregisterd windows running but "Recovery back to Factory setting" was still not available.
But I was able to get the recovery partition to be recognized again with this procedure
I downloaded Visual BCD: In here I check alt the path's in the BCD store and especially if the GUID of the "Windows Recovery Environment" is the same as the one used for "recoverysequence" in your "OS loader". You can also get here the WinReBCD id (GUID), you will need this in ReAgent.xml
    A GUID looks like this: {ecca5163-d630-9447-a175-fc367f40a9e5}
Second thing: check in c:\windows\system32\recovery\Reagent.xml that
WinReBCD, ImageLocation, PBRImageLocation, DownlevelWinreLocation and OSInstallationLocation are pointing to the right "path, GUID and Offset".
+In my case ImageLocation, PBRImageLocation and DownlevelWinreLocation point to partition 1 (first on).+
    +OSInstallationLocation points to partition 6 (last one)+
    +example:+
    +<ImageLocation path="\Recovery\WindowsRE" id="0" *offset="1048576"* guid="{ecca5163-d630-9447-a175-fc367f40a9e5}"/>+

  • Satellite C870-12F - problems after BSOD

    Hi,
Well 15 minutes ago i was working fine with my laptop and all of the sudden i get the bsod..?
Then it restarts itself and after waiting 5 minutes for the windows screen to dissapear for a welcome screen it didnt show up.. So i tried the recovery.
Didnt work it gave me an error.. Whilst writing this subject all of the sudden it started up trough the desktop..
    How is this even possible....

There are two possible reasons why BSOD would occur.
    1) Serious Software issue
    2) Hardware problem / fault
In case of point 1) the system/notebook recovery should fix such issue. But it didnt
Therefore I think that in your case the hardware started to malfunction.
You would like to know what part could malfunction.
Well I think these details can be provided only by an engineer who already checked the unit and ran some diagnosis software.
In my opinion its NOT HDD problem. In case of HDD issues the unit would power up properly but would not boot the system.
Possible hardware parts which could be affected are: RAM module or motherboard.
RAM issues can be solved easily by module replacement but in case of motherboard problems, the notebook fix can be very expensive in case the warranty isnt valid.

  • Backlight stuck on full with Toshiba Satellite L770

As the title says, my backlight's stuck on full. I've tried quite a few things, which I'll list here:
I do have a device in /sys, located at
    /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
I can read a value from it, or send a value to it, and it will remain persistant accross a reboot. However, it doesn't do anything besides sit there and look pretty.
The fact that it's called acpi_video0 implies that this is a generic acpi driver, rather than the toshiba specific driver. Unfortunately, running
    modprobe -v toshiba_acpi
    insmod /lib/modules/3.7.5-1-ARCH/kernel/drivers/platform/x86/toshiba_acpi.ko.gz
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'toshiba_acpi': No such device
Which is annoying. So, then I tried passing this to the kernel:
    acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor
This booted fine, but my /sys file completely disappeared, rather than renaming itself. Querying lsmod showed that the toshiba_acpi module wasn't running.
Next, I tried the nvidia_bl driver, which apparently works sometimes.
    modprobe -v nvidia_bl
    insmod /lib/modules/3.7.5-1-ARCH/extramodules/nvidia_bl.ko
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'nvidia_bl': No such device
    No such luck!
Okay, fine. I'll try talking to the video card directly, and see if that works.
    setpci -v -s 01:00.0 F4.B=0
    0000:01:00.0 @f4 00
Which is nice, but it didn't change the backlight.
The strangest thing is, the acpi functions that usually break on other machines work fine for me. I can see my CPU temperature, fan speed, and battery level without any trouble at all. I can even switch the backlight off, if I want to; I just can't dim it.
    Some extra info:
    [alan@purplecouch ~]$ lspci | grep -i vga
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation Device 0dec (rev a1)
This is interesting, as nvidia-settings reports my card is a Geforce GT 525m, whereas lspci sees it as generic. I'm not sure if this is related.

Okay, not so good news.  I rewrote the Makefile (Okay, I plagiarized it from elsewhere in these Forums ).  It looks like the code uses a structure to build a /proc entry.  That structure has changed (apparently).   I will look and see if it can be patched.

    Satellite P200D-12F (PSPBQE) and Windows 7 64bit

I cant find any solution to this problem on the whole internet. can someone please contact Toshiba providers about this because this is really silly?
    Noone wanna answer me!
    PLZ!
    help

    > this has to be fixed. i just dont understand the Toshiba people. Why dont they TEST the drivers before they upload them for the rest of the world?
The Win 7 VAP 1.2.28 which you can download for P200D is the same package for all other notebook series and its working because Ive installed it on my U400 and A210 notebook series so its NOT VAP issue.
It must be your Win 7 installation issue
First of all check if your BIOS is up to date.
    If not then update it.
The VAP must be unzipped firstly before you would start the installation
I did it many times and if worked!
If nothing will solve your issue then you should renew your Win 7 insatllation.

  • New hard drive, "Reboot and Select..." error message.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L770. My hard drive crashed, so I bought a new one. I replaced the new one correctly, and in the BiOS it shows that it recognizes the new hard drive. After this, every time I would boot up my laptop, a black screen will pop up saying, "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key". So I inserted my Windows 7 OS disc, changed the boot order in BiOS to boot up the disc drive first, but the same screen keeps popping up. I even tried the F12 route and booting the ODD from there, but still the same thing. I am not computer illiterate, so I feel I've done a lot of the little things to try to get past this but have had no luck. Do I need some sort of recovery software, or a boot disc perhaps? Any information as to how to get my laptop up and running will be useful.

    Satellite C55-A5100
I tried to replace my hard drive, and all I get is the message that it can't boot.
If you failed to create recovery media, obtain it from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here.
It's my understanding that the UEFI should be set to Secure Boot and the Boot Mode to UEFI Boot for restoring a hard disk to the original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media.
See the instructions in the section Restoring from recovery media, which begins on p. 56 of the User's Guide.

  • "Remove and check cartridge" error message

My Dell Latitude died.  It was hooked up to my hp psc 2110 all in one printer.
After completing the set-up basics on new laptop, I downloaded the drivers for the printer successfully.  A test was successful.
Next day, I tried to print.  The printer told my laptop that the ink was low.  Installed new cartridge; hit enter to align.  It went all the way through alignment, but would not print.  Instead it posted the scrolling message “Remove and check cartridge”.
I removed and reinserted the cartridge and nothing changed.  Same message.
Expensively (I really needed to print), I inserted a new cartridge.  The printer started to align the cartridge.  At the second bar it froze.  I watched the two unchanging bars for twenty minutes.
Since then (in this order) I have:
Turned off the printer for ten minutes and turned it back on.  It started scrolling (?) “Remove and check
              cartridge”
Uninstalled then downloaded the drivers and tried all again.
Left everything off for forty-eight hours.
The troubleshooter from the computer couldn’t identify the problem, but said the toner was fine.
I could not print a self-test report because no matter what button I push nothing changes.
Opening and closing the top section (in order to replace cartridge) makes the cartridge move, but does
                   nothing to the message.

Also Added the satellite system in SMSY and included it in the solution.
SDCCN is active in satelite systems and back RFC to Solman is generated automatically. but when i see in SDCCN- goto- task specific- RFC destinations SDCC_OSS destination was not there.
we have created that manually and then tried to create Refresh session after service preparation check and manitenance package.
BUt EWA is not getting generated..
Could anyone please help. what we are missing here.

  • Wrong ratios 16:9 to 4:3

I recorded some movies on a Sony DVD203 in 16:9 format. I played them back into iMove 08 and 06 by using the svideo through a Canopus ADV110 video to firewire converter. Everything came through okay except the display in imove08 is set to 16:9 and the picture is shown as 4:3 with pillars on the sides and the people are tall and skinny. On imove 06 I cant get a 16:9 option anywhere. If I plug the camera into an HDTV with 16:9 ratio through an s-video jack the playback is perfect. Anybody got any ideas?

Could you explain to someone who has spen over 4 hours wint iMove 06 and cant' get it to do anything at all. I can make iMove 08 work If I could get video into it.
While I also own a Canopus unit (ADVC300) to move video content (TV, Satellite, VHS, etc.) content to my computer, I would normally use the following work flow for the Sony DCR-DVD203:
    1) Connect the camcorder to your computer using the USB cable
    2) Move the VOB ("muxed" audio/video content) files to your computer hard drive
    3) Use a software application to convert the VOB files to iMovie compatible compression formats
    4) Import the converted files into iMovie
Your only real problem is deciding which application to use and which compression format to use. My personal choice would be MPEG Streamclip (free) here since it has a number of features which most users will eventually need/grow into over time. It does, however requiter the purchase/installation of the the QT MPEG-2 Playback component ($19.99). This approach will allow your to convert your VOBs to DV files which will be properly flagged as 16:9 content and can be imported/edited by any version of iMovie.
If you are more interested in ease of conversion and don't care so much about the output format as long as it is iMovie '08 compatible, then you could try iSquint (free). It is much easier to use. Simply drag and drop the copied VOB files to the work area and press the "Start" button to convert one or more files to MPEG-4/AAC files which can then be imported to iMovie '08. Once you have gained familiarity with the application you can switch to H.264/AAC compression format and/or increase the video data rate to improve quality somewhat. This program does not require purchase and installation of the QT MPEG-2 Playback component but has fewer features.
