3rd generation nano iPod not showing up under devices in iTunes anymore??

When I plug in my 3rd generation iPod nano to my mac OS x 10.7.3 and open iTunes it does not show up under devices anymore.  Why and how can I fix this so I can start transferring my songs again?

I have tried every USB port.
I am also running an iPad 1 off of this computer.

Thank you but I have tried this and it still does not show up.  I even tried to delete itunes and reload it but the computer says that it is not able to delete itunes.

    I Pod is not showing up under devices in ITunes...it is connected to my MacBook Pro and it says connected ...but it is frozen...

    I'm not a Mac user, but do one of the following:
    > Restart your mac.
    > uninstall & reinstall iTunes
    > reset your iPod (if possible)
    > make sure iTunes is up to date.
    This is what I really know, I don't use a mac. If this doesn't help, then sorry.

    I have synced this ATV with this Macbook in the past.
    I am able to play music from my Macbook thru my ATV by selecting the ATV speakers instead of the Macbook's speakers.
    I can play movie trailers on the ATV.
    In iTunes>Preferences>ATV my ATV shows up and says it is syncing
    I have updated my ATV and iTunes software.
    However, it does not show as syncing on the home screen of iTunes and does not show up under devices on the left side. Any ideas?

  • Ipod not showing up under devices - 6th generation

    when I open itunes ,my ipod shows up in the top right hand corner of the screen as "ipod" but does not show under devices on the left side. When I try to sync the opod to my library ,  Itunes says the ipod synced successfully but there is no music on my ipod at all now .I have tried all kinds of the suggestions regarding the "services" and making sure the apple driver is on the computer. I had to download a whole new operating system ( from dell) a few months ago. since then I have synced my iphone but cant seem to get the music from my library to my ipod nano(6th gen) . any ideas. I also re loaded itunes again but that did not help ???

    What do you see on the screen of the iPod when it's connected to your computer?
    Have you tried resetting the iPod or restarting the computer?

    Recently have updated my Windows 8 and updated Itunes to mose recent version available. My Ipod 7th Generation Nano worked, connected and synced without difficulty prior to this updating, Now when I plug into my computer it will pop up Itunes but say that this Ipod is not recognized. I have done multiple steps offered to try and nothing has worked. Any other suggestions would be helpful. I just got this Ipod for Christmas and now can't even use it to sync content anymore.

    Try a different cable. And are you connecting directly to your computer or through a USB hub?

    doubt there is an incompatability between atv and windows8
    as if that was the same this forum would have a lot more posts about it then yours
    go to the settings inside your appletv
    unlink it with whatever computer it see itself as being linked to
    after the restart
    set it to link
    go to itunes on windows 8 and look for it
    type in the 4 didgets and and have it sync
    itunes 11 is the same app on win7 as on win8
    all my drivers for netcards and the likes in win8 was not updated when I updated from win7
    what apple support tells you is pretty much that appletv1g is a dead product which will never get updates again
    this is not the same as it will not work any more

    This is correct.  It will not show in finder.  It is not an external storage device.
    The music sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The only exception is itunes purchases.  Open itunes connect ipod, do not sync, click File>Transfer Purchases

    Thanks Bob, I don't know why but it all of a sudden worked a few days later. It's a mystery but at least problem solved.

    There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
    The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
    If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
    Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
    Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

    I'm not sure how important this is since it will sync my older 4g iPod, but when I open Preferences in iTunes, only my new iPod Touch shows up under "Devices". Is my older gen. iPod not considered a device or does it just not matter?
