3rd party install Vista over XP, Return to factory default?

3rd party installed Vista over XP on a T60.  Is there a way to return to factory default through ThinkVantage?  Tried holding down ThinkVantage button at startup, but only gets me into Bios, no thinkvantage software.  Ideas?

1. Make sure your Recovery Partition is still alive. This can be checked through Disk Management. If the partition is still alive, make it active and reboot. You can now get to ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery
2. If it fails, you need the Product Recovery Media. If you don't have one, you will need to get one form Lenovo Support.

    I downloaded FF 23 but inadvertantly from a 3rd party, FF was taken over by something called Dalesearch which apparently is malware, I stripped FF23 out ran my anti malware programme and re downloaded FF23 from the Mozilla site, everything works now but Dalesearch is permanently in my search window but not active. I can overwrite it and all is ok. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this completely as it is a bit worrying.   • Updated to 4.5, now want to return to factory defaults!

    I have been searching the forums like crazy and cant find a post that explains this. I upgraded to 4.5 a few days ago but didnt delete the vendor.xml file. i have had a few small issues and things not working. I downloaded and have been using JL_cmder to try and wipe and reset to factory settings but it only wipes the device and wont return it to 4.2.2. i installed 4.2.2 and tried again and still wont get rid of 4.5 How can i make it so 4.5 is gone or how can i make it so device is wiped of everything and i can re-install the os? I have the curve 8310 for att.

    I do not believe there are any restrictions on removing the default authenticator.
    When you boot the server make sure the user/pass is valid in the 3rd party LDAP
    and they have the proper admin/oper privileges to boot the server.
    You might want to configure the server with two authenticators first to verify
    you can successfully authenticate to the 3rd party LDAP before removing the default
    authenticator.

    This problem is on my laptop  running Vista ( Business) on Adobe 10.0  ,   for many years I did NOT have a problem with this . No forum Pages on this. 
    Also i would like to know how screen readers can better interact with PDF as my wife has difficultys on some email attachments on her laptop , again there seems no easy avenue for someone in her situation surfing websites and forums  for Hours maybe ok ok for sighted people, but not if you are blind & use a screenreader.  No Support Help from Adobe is available.

  • 3rd party plugins not working after archive and install

    hi,
    i have a few 3rd party plugins in my logic pro, such as all the native instruments, waves diamond, ik multimedia plugins, atmosphere and a few more,
    i was getting an error on my g5 when i tried to run diskwarrior from the disk. it was the kernal panic message, it said i had to restart my mac, therefore i couldnt run diskwarrior from disk.
    i did a bit of research and a few people suggested doing a archive install, so i did.
    well what do you know, i had to re-install logic 8 again. other programmes such as transcribe, itunes idvd imovie etc were ok.
    but logic didnt load up, o i had to re-install logic again,
    also before i did that i checked to see if my 3rd party plugin were working in standalone, so i check all the native instruments and they seemed to work ok, T-racks deluxe works fine, so i thought they should all load up in logic.
    once logic was installed again and had to get all the updates all my 3rd party plugins did not show up on my AU validation.
    is there a way to get logic to see my 3rd party plugins or do i have to re-install all of them again.

    Then check if the NI AU components are actually where they should be:
    HD/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components
    If not copy them over from your "previous systems" folder which was created on your HD during the archive and install process.

  • SCUP2011 - SCCM2012 SP1 CU4: 3rd party updates fail to install with SoftDistHashMismatchEvent

    We publish 3rd party updates like Adobe Flash, Shockwave, Firefox with SCUP 2011 into WSUS.
    These 3rd party updates are imported/synchronized into our SCCM 2012 SP1 (CU4) environment and deployed to the clients/servers.
    But all of these 3rd party fail to install. Software Center returns the following error: The software change returned error code 0x80091007(-2146889721).
    The standard Microsoft Updates are downloaded and installed without any error.
    The 3rd party updates are downloaded by the client, but are deleted after checking the hash because of a hash mismatch (SoftDistHashMismatchEvent).

    The strange thing is that 3rd party updates are downloaded/installed succesfully when using the Windows Update Control Panel applet, while WSUS and SCCM2012 are installed on the same server!
    Our environment uses PKI only for communication/authentication, because we manage multiple untrusted networks
    All servers are virtual servers (VMWare ESXi 5.5) with Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 + latest updates.
    I already performed the following trouble-shooting tasks without any success:
    - I reinstalled the different Site System Roles.
    - Removed the SCCM client from the SCCM database and client and reinstalled
    - Removed the anti-virus software
    - Redeployed the 3rd party updates
    - Replaced the E1000 NICs with VMXNET3 (server and client)
    - Ensured no proxy between server and client
    - Downloading and installing the 3rd party updates manually from the specified download locations
      (e.g.
    http://sccm.mydomain.local:8530/Content/32/04B9361CDC426D2DBC94B90A7BB0172CAE84D532.cab or

  • Why does Adobe install 3rd party software with PE 10 without asking?

    I purchased Photoshop Elements and Priemere Elements 10 together. During installation Adobe installed SmartSound Sonicfire Pro 5 on my computer. The installation did not ask if I wanted to install this software and there was no option to not install it. I am the only one who installs applications on my computer so what gives Adobe the right to decide what to install for me. Sonicfire Pro 5 is unwanted by me and it pains me greatly that software was installed on my computer without my consent. Besides it takes up 30GB of disk space. Yes I can uninstall it and I will but it should not have been installed in the first place. I bought Photoshop Elements 10 and Premiere Elements 10 because I was happy with my purchase of Photoshop Elements 6 and Premiere Elements 4 and wanted to have newer versions but now I am very unhappy. I will never buy a Adobe product or suggest Adobe products to anyone ever again. The only thing that would change my mind would be if Adobes next version did not contain any 3rd party software or if it did one should be given a choice during installation as to install it or not and Adobe should give me a free version to replace the one I have. As those two things are unlikely to happen I will continue to never buy any Adobe software or suggest to anyone to buy Adobe products and faithfully watch the stock market as Adobe stocks continue to decline. Guess what I do for a living!

    I did not answer you question, because I have no answer. That was why I recommended contacting Adobe. Though, at times, it might not seem like it, but they do listen to their customers. They collect tons of data, and try to prioritize things, based on that input. This is for Feature Requests, or just comments on how one likes, or does not like, the software.
    In very general terms, I find Adobe products to be very benign, and especially to many other companies' software.
    Over the decades, I only recall a few instances, where something was installed, without my input, at some level. Back about PS CS, there were some NIK Filters that were installed, and a few of them were "trials," which I am not keen on. SmartSound would be another example, except that I would want it, regardless (and probably only complain, if it was missing).
    One of the biggest rubs that I had with Pinnacle Studio was that even if one bought their biggest, most expensive package, a ton of Effects and Transitions were loaded as trials. To get all of those, one had to spend about US $400, above the price of the NLE. Not sure if that is still the case, as I switched to AVID Liquid, about they time they bought Pinnacle, and have not seen Pinnacle Studio in many years. When I moved from Liquid, to PrPro, and the CS2 Production Studio, I never looked back at AVID/Pinnacle. Now, CS2 Production Studio came with about 8 programs, and then a ton of "Goodies." I would have loved to have the Goodies as options in the full suite installation. As it was, I had to do the main, muli-program install, and then run installation routines for maybe 30 other plug-ins, add-ons and stand-alones.
    No, like you, I refuse to update my iTunes, as so much "other stuff" gets installed, and then I have to clean it out. You are not alone, except that we see SmartSound from different sides. Though I understand your not wanting anything, but the program, I view that as a necessity.
    My suggestion to Adobe would be to include that as a separate, user-selectable install, though I have never heard of anyone complaining, unless SmartSound did not work for them.
    I understand personal principles, and try to adhere to my own, but before you pass on SmartSound, I beg you to try it out. That will not ameliorate the need for Adobe to let the user decide what is/is not installed, but with a few sessions, you might change your mind about the program, itself.
    Do let Adobe know how you feel, and perhaps SmartSound will become an additional installation, like the additional Functional Content.

    My brother has given me his 2010 MacBook Pro with a 256GB SSD running 10.9 and I want to do a clean install of OS X 10.10. Can this be done with a Bootable USB? I have read a few things about this called Trim and was wondering if I need to do something else? It is an aftermarket SSD (256GB OCZ Agility 3 SSD Drive) can I do a clean install straight away or do I need to do something else? Sorry for the newbie question and sorry if this has been asked, but I could not find an answer anywhere.

    TRIM is a nice addition, but not essential.  In Yosemite, the only way to enable TRIM for a 3rd party SSD, is to disable some Mac OS X security features.

    TRIM is a way for the file system to tell the SSD that a set of storage blocks were just deleted from a file, and the SSD is allowed to pre-erase them so they are ready to be re-used by the SSD.  And SSD cannot overwrite a block with data in it.  The SSD must perform a special kind of erase that when issued erases a much larger region of storage.  So the SSD, used a block remapping algorithm that takes a pre-erased block and write to that, then remaps that block so it looks like the block the file system asked to be written.  The file system thinks it has overwritten the block it specified, but in reality it wrote to a totally different physical block, and the SSD just makes it look like it.
    To be able to do this the SSD needs a pool of pre-erased blocks, or it much find a region to erase, save any blocks in that region that have active data on them, then if necessary re-write blocks it could not find new home for, and write the data the file system wanted written.  This read, erase, write is more time consuming, so it pays for the SSD to have a pool of pre-erased blocks.  SSDs generally "Over Provisioned" so that they always have spares that file system does not know about.  Those over provisioned spares are also used to replace blocks and regions that have exceeded their write life (SSDs have a limited number of writes and then blocks and regions start to fail).
    The SSD when idle will try to consolidate regions so it can have a pool of pre-erased blocks.  TRIM support just gives the SSD a larger pool so that if you are doing a huge write (copying some multi-gigabyte sized files disk to disk), the SSD will not easily drain its pool of pre-erased blocks.
    But Mac OS X will still run faster with an SSD, even without TRIM, than it would on a rotating hard disk.  It will always read faster, and as long as you are not doing non-stop writes, the SSD will catch up and maintain a pool of pre-erased blocks for the next moderate write.
    Some SSD vendors give more of the SSD to over provisioning, such as OWC where their SSD sizes are 240, 480, 960, instead of 256, 512, 1024, with the difference going to create a larger over provisioning pool so the SSD has more storage the file system does not know about to try and keep ahead of large write operations.

  • Is there a way to block add-ons from being installed in Firefox, even add-ons coming from 3rd party sites?

    I work in a small call center and I have been working on trying to convince IT and management to use Firefox on the computers on the call floor. The main issue I have been having in convincing them, is that you can't block add-ons and things like that as easily as in IE. I thought I had it with blocking addons.mozilla.org, which wouldn't allow access to Mozilla's add-on site. However, with that, techs would still be able to go to 3rd party sites, generally the creators of the add-ons, and download them there. Anybody have any ideas on how to stop this?

  • I have a brand new iMac that does not have iDVD. Made a move on iMovie installed a 3rd party burn prog. but DVD won't playback on my regular dvd player. Need to burn one that will. Help!

    My new iMac did not come with iDVD as they are not using iDVD any longer.  I made a movie that I needed to put on a DVD that would play on any external DVD player. After calling Apple twice, they recommened a 3rd party program so I downloaded "Burn-osx" and made the DVD; however when i insert it into my player connected to the TV it gives the message "disk error --playback feature may not be available on this disk".  Ok--now what?  I am up against a time line here--need the DVD for a graduation party! Help! What am I not doing correctly?

    Nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD. That usually does the trick.  You MUST speak to a senior advisor to get a free copy. The first tier people cannot do it.

    Yes, there are programs that will put a movie on a DVD.   I have tried most of the other substitutes including Toast, Burn, and others.  None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD. IDVD is specifically designed to work with iMovie. Get iDVD.

    One common reason for that error is that the wrong SubCA certificate had been imported accidentally - e.g. an earlier 'version' of that SubCA with the same Subject CA name but a different key. In this case the validating client will try to build a chain
    based on name only but finally the signature check fails.
    Could you cross-check if the extension Authority Key Identifier in your DC certificate is the same as the field
    Subject Key Identifier of the SubCA certificate? (These are typically hashes of the keys though it is not standardized - it should be a unique string characteristic for the CA)
    For the client cert. CERT_TRUST_HAS_NAME_MATCH_ISSUER is indicated in your log - thus Isser name in client cert. matches Subject Name in CA cert, but we don't know about SKI/AKI.

    I have called Microsoft Permium Support, base on the reply, SharePoint 2013 does not support to index a PDF file attachment in E-mail (msg) except 3rd party iFilter installed. And they finally told me how to edit Windows Registry for install the Adobe iFilter.
    But, the Adobe iFilter is too weak to call large PDF files. So, I would like to install and try the Foxit PDF iFilter, but I cannot find an installation guide for this 3rd party ifilter with SharePoint 2013. 
    Does anyone here have the experience for Foxit PDF iFilter with SharePoint 2013 can help me?
    I am not sure it is bug or feature in SharePoint 2013, but in case I still have to install 3rd party iFilter for index PDF file. I have no idea what is the out of box pdf file indexing support for.

    2. we need to install the foxit ifilter
