4.01 is not compatible with Norton toolbar?

I have used Firefox religiously for the last few years and have always been happy with the stability and reliability. But now I have installed the latest version only to find that it did not work with the Norton Toolbar and the Identity Safe in particular. So, I have had to reinstall the 3.6.17 and uninstall the 4.01. Now the earlier version is not functioning correctly. Keeps asking me if I want it to be my default browser, has the home, reload and stop icons relocated in unlikely places and doesn't function with the same predictable reliability. Can I get a fix for this? Or can I get an update notice when the bugs have been worked out of the new version so that I can get the Norton Toolbar back?

Symantec need to correct a mistake they made with their add-ons. They originally updated their add-ons after quite a delay to work with Firefox 4.0 as shown here - http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Firefox-4-compatibility-hotfix-is-now-available/td-p/428894
They made an error with the update in only listing it as compatible with Firefox 4.0, so they will not install on Firefox 4.0.1 and subsequent Firefox security updates. Symantec have indicated they will be releasing an update to correct their error soon, for details see http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Norton-Toolbar-not-compatible-with-FF-4-0-1/td-p/442788/page/12

  • Why Firefox 5 not compatible with google Toolbar please help.

i prefer firefox 5 but why not compatible with google toolbar.

Firefox 4 is not secure; Firefox 5 is a security and stability update for Firefox 4. The only currently supported versions of Firefox are Firefox 5 and Firefox 3.6.19 (support to expire in a month or two).
    As for the Google toolbar....
Google decided that they will no longer produce the Google Toolbar for Firefox beyond Firefox 4.

  • FF4 tells me it's not compatible with Norton and SafeCentral...is this true?

When I downloaded FF4 it said it was not compatible with Norton and SafeCentral security systems I use on my laptop. Yet they show they are working on my computer. Are they working or aren't they when I have FF4 open?

We have released a new version of the plugin that is compatible with Firefox 4.

  • How can I download FF 6? FF 7.0.1.4288 (the version I am using) is not compatible with Norton 360. I need to return to FF 6.

FF 7.0.1.4288 intermittently uses 97-100% of CPU capacity for a few seconds, alternating with a few seconds of normal idle usage; this can continue for long periods. During these periods the computer responds very slowly. I can terminate it (temporarily) by rebooting.
FF 7 occasionally uses 97-100% of capacity continuously for several minutes; my impression is that it would continue indefinitely if I did not reboot. When I try to reboot in this condition, FF does not respond, I have to click End Now, in which case previous sessions are not saved.
Norton believes this is due to an interaction between FF 7 and Norton 360. They say that 7.0.1.4288 is a beta version. Norton tells me that 360 should become compatible with FF 7 in a month or two. In the mean time I need to reinstall FF 6.
I cannot see how to do this on your website.
    Please help.

Firefox 7.0.1 is an update to Firefox 7.0 and there was no beta of Firefox 7.0.1.
You may need to update Norton. A patch for their toolbar to make it compatible with Firefox 7 was released on the same day that Firefox 7 was released. You may need to run Norton's "Live Update" several times to get all that is needed.

Does not relate to your question, but...
You have multiple old Java Console extensions that Java did not clean-up during updates. You need Java Console only if you do Java programming/development or debug Java applets on web pages. You can see them in Add-ons > Extensions, '''''but you can not remove them from there'''''. Removing them will not affect the functioning of Java on websites. You can '''''manually''''' remove them, '''''if you do not do Java development work''''' to avoid future, possible problems/conflicts:

  • This new forefox is not compatible with Google toolbar - I want to uninstall but don't know how. Orientation please!

I have a MacBook Pro and my bookmarks and mail are all google so I relly need my Google toolbar as this new one is not compatible.
    Thanks,
    ruco

Firefox will not easily allow you to downgrade to firefox4, because that is now unsupported, however if you install an additional add-on the compatability reporter this will allow the google toolbar to work. This is confirmed by one of the google [http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2011/06/enable-google-toolbar-in-firefox-5.html blogs]
Please therefore install the addon from this link:
    * https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/
With any luck the new addon will help with other addons you may have and other releases of firefox that are going to be released soon.

  • Firefox 15 not compatible with Norton Tool bar, is there going to be a fix?

When will you fix this problem with Norton's Tool Bar compatability? I use this feature all the time.

I had Firefox 18 that crashed with Windows 8, and I also had my Norton toolbar. However, I removed 8 and installed back 7 (Windows), and Norton disappeared. Therefore,I went to Firefox 15 and my bar was back. It was back for the past 2 days, and now it is gone, out of the blue. I have the new Comcast Norton 360 and it has been updated - but my bar is gone. I want my bar and it is the only bar for privacy that I trust. I prefer Firefox 18, if I can have it with my Norton bar. Any ideas? I am not able to go to add on's and click onto "enable" because it states that it is incompatible with Firefox 15, therefore, there are no enable or disable buttons. What is going on?

  • Firefox not compatible with norton family

When installing update 18.0.1 it said norton family would not work. Barring this how do I revert to an older version that will work with norton family.

  • How do I revert from ver. 4.0 to ver. 3.6? Version 4.0 is not compatible with Norton 360 at this time.

When I upgraded to version 4.0 I lost my "Identity Safe" in Norton 360. I was told by Norton that they are working on an upgrade. I want to revert to 3.6 until that is available.

Did Norton give you a time scale for when it will be available?
To downgrade to Firefox 3.6.* you can uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install Firefox 3.6.* available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.
For details of how to find your profile folder see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles

  • I wish to revert to previous version of Firefox. Version 5.0 is not compatible with Google Toolbar

I upgraded to Firefox 5.0 and now have no Google Toolbar. I'm not sure what else is disabled as incompatible, but I want to revert to my previous version. How can I do this without losing my settings and plugins? I could not find version 4.0.1 on Mozilla's website. Only version 5.0 appears to be available.

Firefox version 4 (4.0, 4.0.1) is no longer supported.
'''The Google Toolbar is no longer supported by Google in Firefox 5 and up''', you may be able to get what you want from it for a limited time, the directions to install the Google Toolbar were posted before Google actually announced dropping support.

Symantec need to update their Firefox add-ons so that they are compatible with Firefox 4. They have indicated that for Norton 360 they plan to release an update to Norton 360 to support Firefox 4 in early May - http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20100720113635EN&ln=en_US
I do not know about the time scale for updates for other Norton products. Pending the update by Symantec, if you want to use the Norton add-ons you will need to downgrade to Firefox 3.6.
The core Norton components such as antivirus and firewall will still work, it will just be the add-ons that are not currently compatible.
To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.

  • Is Firefox 4 now compatible with Norton 360, incl. Norton Toolbar?

compatible with mozilla 8 or 9.,what version do i need to download of mozilla edit

You could use firefox 3.6, which is old but still supported and secure. However the best solution is to give up on using Google Toolbar because Google no longer support it with firefox, mainly because it has little to offer.
You can still save google bookmarks by copying them into Firefox. Please have a look at
    * [[google Toolbar is not compatible with Firefox]] <-- clickable link -- <br> which may help with some ideas and proposed solutions.
I am hoping the Norton report you refer to merely says your system has vulnerabilities, rather than that it has an actual infection (or that it has dealt with or quarantined any malware).

  • I need to download firefox 9.0 becuase a toolbar I use is not compatible with 10.0. Where can I download the previous version? Thanks

I went to check my version information by selecting about under the help menu. Firefox started downloading the update and prompted me when it finished. I ok'd it, not realizing it would update to 10.0. A toolbar that I use is not compatible with the new version so I need to download the previous version. Can anyone tell me how to find 9.0. Thanks

To keep your computer and files safe, you should not go back to Firefox 9. Firefox 10 contains security fixes. You may be able to make your toolbar work by using the add-on compatibility reporter as described in this article [[Add-ons are disabled after updating Firefox]].
If you really must go back to Firefox 9, you can find it here: https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/9.0.1/win32/

  • Hello, I just found out that my newest version of Firefox 5.0 is not compatible with the LinkedIn companion toolbar. Any ideas? Thanks in advance and best regards

Firefox 5.0 for Mac 10.6 not compatible with LinkedIn companion toolbar

You got it backwards, add-ons need to be compatible with Firefox, not the other way around. When Firefox is updated, the add-on needs to be updated.
The Firefox version of that toolbar, available from here - http://www.linkedin.com/static?key=browser_toolbar_download - and here - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/linkedin-companion-for-firefox/- hasn't been updated for Firefox 5.0 yet.
You can force "compatibility" with this extension, but if that extension isn't coded correctly for Firefox 5.0, it ain't gonna fix it. <br />
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/ <br />
You'll have to see how well that add-on works in Firefox 5.0.
Of course, you can ask LinkedIn when they plan to update their add-on.
