4S Touchscreen, Orientation and Speak Text problems?

Hello my Fellow Nerds and/or iPhone lovers,
I have been having a number of problems using my touch screen on the iPhone 4S and I'm not sure if it's directly a hardware problem or simply I don't know how to use it. It seems as though when I make an attempt to select a single word and make the desired edit that more or less text happens to get selected. Same problem with paragraphs or other amounts of text as well that I am not able to select what I wish.
The main areas I've been using that feature is in Notes app, email messages and places just like here where I'm editing the text as I make my post. In The Notes App I don't know why but sometimes I'm getting a keyboard when I don't want it and sometimes I can't seem to correctly edit the text.
Just checking to see if anyone out there has had similar problems as well. I think this has something to do with the iOS 7 upgrade or simply that I don't know how to use my iPhone. I have just recently started using it much more for editing text. Maybe it's simply that I need a refresher on the screen use and editing text so if you happen to know a good Apple webpage or another link just let me know about that if you could.
My other issue that's ongoing that the screen orientation is flipping when I don't have the phone in that position. Again I think this is something to do with iOS 7 but perhaps not since is a new issue and I have never had problems with that in the past.
Part of the editing/screen orientation is related also to do with speaking text. Once text is selected, I don't always get the speak text button or when I try to touch the button it barfs out on me going through the small menu that you navigate.

Texting is one of the most common forms of communications in today’s society. I can certainly see the value in having text messages working at all times! Hopefully, you will reconsider canceling your parents' service as we can partner together and resolve your messaging issues. I have a few questions to ask you in order to get clarification on the issue. What software version do you have on your Droid Incredible? Are you getting any error message(s) when trying to send or receive a text? What city and state are you located in? Below are a few troubleshooting steps for you to try on the device.
Check to ensure that you have the current software on your device.
Remove any unused apps from the device to free up device memory.
Delete your signature on your device if you have one.
Remove any 3rd party messaging apps.
Erase long threaded text messages from the text inbox.

If you decide to perform a factory reset then it is encouraged to back up your contacts and calendar entries. Backup Assistant is an excellent app to store your contacts and calendar entries can be saved on your Gmail account. Also, be sure to save all of your music, pictures, and videos on a memory card prior to the reset. Once the device has been reset to it's factory state, there is a brief tutorial on how to reactivate and setup the device. Upgraded to Adabe 10.1x reader and drag and drop text problems

So after a month of trying to figure all this out I FINALLY fixed the problem!
Before you do anything just go to your destop > right click personalize (this is for windows 7 - might be different for XP; I honestly forgot, but same idea) > find "window color" > select "advance appearance settings
(I think can be found by just typing "window color and appearance" in the search from the start menu).

List and justified text problems

I'm creating a PDF that uses justified text for all paragraphs and centered headers. One of the problems I'm having is that if the last sentance in a paragraph contains just a few words, it ends up far to spaced out. It ends up looking rediculous, in extreme cases there is a word against the left margine and one against the right margin. How do I limit the space allowed between words?
Second, how do I creat a numbered list without it indenting the left margin of the paragraph that comes after each number? I need the number to be indented, just as you would indent the first sentance of a paragraph, but the rest of the justified text needs to have the same left margin as the non-numbered paragraphs.
Third, how do I keep the space between the number and the text the same with justified text? As it is now, it changes to acount for the number of charicters in the line of text. I aso need to keep the distance for number to left margin the same, I'm just pressing the tab button twice right now. I'm not using the list function right now because of the margine issues, I'm just including the number in the text.

1. To prevent the last line of text from spacing out, make sure you use a hard return at the end of the last sentence in the paragraph. That marks it as the end of a paragraph, and Buzzword won't try to justify the last line of what it recognizes as a paragraph.
2. You can use the ruler to adjust the indents and margins for paragraphs. For more details, open up the Help documentation, click on Buzzword tips (it's under Using Buzzword on the left), then click on Editing, then select the first item -- How do I create indents. It's a little tricky, but I think that you'll find that it provides the control you're looking for. Note that when you're adjusting the formatting of list paragraphs, all paragraphs in that list that are at the same list level will have the same paragraph formatting.
3. I think that if you use the paragraph formatting (via the ruler, as noted in #2) and the list functionality, the problem of the inter-character spacing will go away.

Thumbnail images, bigger images and some text PROBLEM

Unclear title, with an unclear problem.
What I'm wanting to do is, when I click on a thumbnail image, I want the content in the DIV on the right to change accordingly to display the image and information relating to the thumbnail you have just clicked. I'm using Dreamweaver CS5 on MAC:
- I have a page split into 2 vertical columns. On the left I have 6 thumbnail images in their individual DIVs, wrapped all together in another DIV container
- on the right of the page I have assigned a large DIV to display a big image with a description underneath of what the project was etc...
I know you can attach a behaviour to the thumbnail to change the big image on the right, but I have a short paragraph of text below the big image too, and I don't particularly want to make the image and text one huge image. I want to keep the text, text.
How do I do it? Is this a simple thing? or is there a lot of coding to do this with JQuery or Javascript or something? Is there something to do with Data record sets involved?
Is there a way of doing it that when you click on the thumbnail that it can load the relevant image and text into the DIV on the right?
Sorry if it's not clearly explained, not sure how to do it, therefore not sure if I'm describing it properly.

Here is a screenshot of the page in question.
- On the left are the thumbBox DIVS, (shown here, "thumbBox1")
- On the right there is a main container, "galleryDisplay"
- Within "galleryDisplay" there is a DIV for the large image, "galleryDisplayImage", and another DIV to display a paragraph of information on the project, "galleryDisplayInfo".
Just to repeat, I want that when you click on the "thumbBox1", that the content of "galleryDisplayImage" and "galleryDisplayInfo" change in accordance to the thumbnail clicked.

Preview and scrollable text problems

Is anyone else having problems getting the scrollable text function to work in an overlay to a fixed layout ePub? I have the latest version of InDesign CC, purchased last week.
Here is a picture of my file. As you can see, it's pretty darn simple. Content box is on the right. You can't see the entire box but It is long enough to fit all of my text. On the left, I created a container box, wider but shorter than the content box. I then selected the content and used Paste Into to put the content into the container. Next, I selected the container, went to Folio Overlays, and I designated the content box as vertical scrolling, start at upper left, and Vector format. But when when I tried to preview it (more on preview problems in a minute), the container appears as a simple text box with no scrolling capability. I've asked the Adobe help people and they don't seem to have any ideas yet.
As far as preview goes, well, I can export to Adobe Digital Editions or I can look at the page in Window/Interactive/EPUB Interactivity Preview. But File/Folio Preview just processes the page and then returns nothing. And the same thing happens when I hit Preview in the Folio Overlays panel.
I'd love to know if this is unique to my system or a common problem. Since I only purchased CC to produce annotated books, there is not much I can do without it. And if CC doesn't do it, does anyone have a suggestion for something a non-programmer could use to get the same result?

Scrollable frames are a DPS -- Digital Publishing Suite-- function (as are all other effects from the Folio Overlay panel). Those are a different beast than Fixed-Layout EPUBs.
For fixed-layout, all interactivity is supported (any panel in the Windows > Interactive flyout) except for Forms, Page Transitions, and the two Animation presets Smoke and Blur. Note that the panels Folio Builder and Folio Overlays are not part of the Interactive group of panels.
I know it's very confusing!
If you're trying to create an *app* then you use DPS, and you should be asking this question in the DPS forum.

Getting files from a business that uses Photoshop CS6. I use CS3 and have text problems

Hi, I'm getting files from a business that uses Photoshop CS6. I use CS3 and when I edit the text, the text moves to a different location even off screen.
Anyone know how to fix this?
It makes it hard to copy the text and imposible to change the color or make corrections.
This just started when they went to Photoshop CS6.

Ask the folks supplying you with files whether they've updated to the latest version... There were problems with Photoshop CS6 13.0.0. saving text layers in jumbled-up fashion.

Nokia N95 send and recieve text problems

I have just bought the Nokia N95 and am not able to send or receive text messages. I can make calls, so I know that the service provider is correct.
I also phoned the help service of my provider who took me through the settings of network selection but it still won’t send or receive messages.
My messages I write go to out box but just display as failed. They also just display the number for the contact and not the name.
I don’t yet have a micro SD card installed so am reliant on the SIM and internal memory. From what I see the memory is not full either.
Am I missing something?
I’ve done this for settings: Main menu – Tools – Settings – Phone – Network – Operator selection – Options – Change – Manual – then it Searches – I choose anything other than my provider such as O2 or Tmobile and it says not allowed – then I choose my provider which it gives me confirmation of my home provider. I switch off the phone and then back on again so I am on the correct network. Still can’t send or receive any texts.
Has anyone had this happen to them and do you have the solution?

Your message center is provably not configured correctly. Go to message setting then message center. Ask your provider what is the message center number or get someone who have the same provider as you are & note down the message center & put it in your phone. If the message center is correct, you'll provably have software problem. Backup your phone & format your phone. Codes are in the sticky tread for codes.

N82 Animated SMS and Predictive Text Problems

I've just got a new N82 and think it's a great phone. I downloaded and installed the Animated SMS program from Nokia's software site and have a couple of problems! The first is that I've set my left direction shortcut to come up with a New Message, now it lists SMS, Email and MMS but no A-SMS, I have to go through the message icon in the main menu. The second problem is that when I open the A-SMS application up and I do use and like Predictive Texting, it doesn't work! Everytime I push a button to start texting nothing displays on the screen and SPELL comes up over the left softkey. Turn off Predictive Texting and it works, very annoying. Anyone else had any problems and anyone know a solution? Have contacted Nokia who haven't got back to me yet.

SWF File Size and Rollover Text Problem

Hi and thanks in advance for any input.
Two problems....
1. SWF File Size
I've made a fairly small (at least in my eyes its small) flash site. However, even tho there really isn't much content, the swf is already 2.4mb and I haven't even finished it. It loads fine on my internet speed, but im worried about general users with slower internet. Is there something i should be doing to get the file size down (hopefully without comprimising quality).
2. Text Buttons (Movie Clips)
The rollover function (Event Listener) for MCs containing text keeps running while the mouse is over the button. I.E. It isnt treating the text box as a button, its treating the text only as a button, so as you roll between one letter and another, the rollover is re-set and re-starts.

Reduce bitmap quality (increase compression).
For each bitmap, select "custom quality" in the symbol properties and set it to no more than 80.
Set the mouseChildren property of the button movieclips to false to avoid mouse events from triggering by child objects (the text inside the movieclip).

Headphone and speaker volume problem. Volume is not memorized.

I have the Helix i5 and the problem I'm having is that when I plug in my headphones, the volume does not automatically adjust. If my speakers are on full volume, so are my headphones when I plug them in. Please help me fix this. My Microsoft Surface never had such a ridiculous issue like this.

On the top righthand side press "Device advanced settings"
Choose Multi-stream mode
For me this unlocked separate volume sliders for speakers and headphones

BBM and SMS texting problems

Have a Tour that doesn't play personalized ringtones for ppl for there sms txt, it started happining after updating to the new 5.0 software. Also ppl that i have as a bbm contact who txt me i'm having there txt go into my bbm message list as a second chat instead of keeping them seperate, its only happened to about 5 ppl in my bbm contacts out of 20 and is happeing with multiple carriers and different models of blackberry.
I've talked to verizon tech support many times and even BB tech support with no luck, I've down graded to the 4.7 version and everything worked but i'm not gonna pay this much for a plan and a phone thats not working the way it should.
I've tried changing all the settings many different ways and the only success i've had with the 5.0 was before i restored my contact list in bbm on the phone, it worked perfectly........So I manually added each pin in testing as i went and still are left with 5 that don't work.
What else can i do????

I DO NOT enjoy texting on my Blackberry. I really found it difficult after I upgraded, with the new threaded texting so I downgraded back to the original OS that my Blackberry Tour came with. I wish RIM could really step up their game and create an upgrade for my pphone that works correctly and is actually worth upgrading to......"Come on RIM your really losing ground here, all of us Blackberry owners expected so much more from you"

N97 and speaker phone problem...

just curious here...I'd read this topic sometime ago, in regard N97 have some sort of speaker phone issue for the other party you're phoning with do not hear your voice very clearly and get intermitten cut off???
do/does anyone have this issue or it's just me???

Ross, i'm not sure, but here in the states AT&T refers iPhone users to contact Apple for tech support, etc.
You may try restoring the iPhone using iTunes and or restoring most settings in Preferences. That may help. Some have found fixes by removing the SIM card (iphone off), and reinserting it...
My first guess would be a software issue. Aside from that... you'd have to contact Apple and have them send you a new one if you're nowhere near an Apple store in the UK.

Desk cradle problems and speaker (sound) problems

I have a droid charge and sometimes when I am using my phone it goes to the desk cradle by itself also within the past 2 days my phone won't make any sound unless I have my headphones in

We definitely want to make sure your phone works the right way for you. In regards to the audio trouble, it sounds like there may be debris in the headset jack causing the audio to work without the headset. I encourage you to test any sound or music with the headset on and while the music is playing remove the headset and verify if any audio is present. I recommend if no sound is heard to check the headset jack and verify it appears in good condition and no debris is present.
Have you found that the cradle mode is activated when using a specific app or a specific service on the device? I recommend running the device in safe mode http://bit.ly/n2EIBZ for 24 hours and verify if it doesn't occur. Please keep us posted.

Problem with focus and selecting text in jtextfield

I have problem with jtexfield. I know that solution will be very simple but I can't figure it out.
This is simplified version of situation:
I have a jframe, jtextfield and jbutton. User can put numbers (0-10000) separated with commas to textfield and save those numbers by pressing jbutton.
When jbutton is pressed I have a validator which checks that jtextfield contains only numbers and commas. If validator sees that there are invalid characters, a messagebox is launched which tells to user whats wrong.
Now comes the tricky part.
When user presses ok from messagebox, jtextfield should select the character which validator said was invalid so that user can replace it by pressing a number or comma.
I have the invalid character, but how can you get the focus to jtextfield and select only the character which was invalid?
I tried requestFocus(), but it selected whole text in jtextfield and after that command I couldn't set selected text. I tried with commands setSelectionStart(int), setSelectionEnd(int) and select(int,int).
Then I tried to use Caret and select text with that. It selected the character I wanted, but the focus wasn't really there because it didn't have keyFocus (or something like that).
Is there a simple way of doing this?

There is probably a red light on inside your headphone port, indicating that the analog/digital switch in there is stuck in the digital position. Insert a headphone plug and wigle it around, especially in the horizontal plane, as you insert and remove it several times. This will usually unstick the switch and restore normal operation. If it doesn't, the machine will need to be repaired.
This has been a fairly common problem, but in most cases it is easily cured as described above.
