5.1 Mix AC3 + 2.0 Lt Rt (optional Audio)-how to...

I have a Surround Mix in 5.1 and it sounds exactly as it should when decoded by a dolby digital receiver back to 5.1. However the 5.1 to Stereo Downmix is Un Acceptable! all the surround information is double loud and the voice over get lost in the downmix slightly.
So
I have made a Matrix Stereo Encoded Dolby 2.0 Lt Rt File (Stereo Mix)
How do I set up the DVDSP settings so that the Dolby 2.0 Mix is the alternate audio track. I just know that when i buy a commercial dvd my receiver decides (as it should) what I will be listening to DD or PLII
Thanks.

Hi Chipster
Welcome to the forum.
Firstly 5.1 ac3 can't occupy the first audio track so put you Dolby 2.0 audio in A1 and your 5.1 audio in A2. Then in the button that sends you to the track, in the advanced tab you can select the specific stream that will be targeted - so in your case you will select A2. The problem here is that you're forcing the viewer into the 5.1 track, if they aren't hooked up for 5.1 they're not going to here it properly. You might be better off having a menu buttons that gives them the choice of one or the other.
Good luck

I am using iMac OS 10.7.2 with Garageband'11 6.0.4. I can't record sound from  mixer Behringer X1622USB using USB out. when I connect the mixer to iMac via USB  appears USB Audio CODEC on Sound and Preferences but I can't get no sound from mixer to iMac only sound from iMac to mixer. I only can record sound using microphone line in. Please help.

    Eric,
Thanks for your reply. Realtek audio works only in playback. There is a stereo mix in the mixer but the recording controls are not operable with no sliders in the mixer for any recording option. Slider controls appear to be grayed out. Can't figure out how to enable them. Downloaded newest drivers to no avail.
The M Audio control panel has no apparent option for recording stereo mix. Adobe ignores the sound from the DVD or CD and shows flatline.
I'm trying to record the sound from the DVD not rip the track.
When I go to Audio Driver Setup and select Audition 3.0 windows sound, there is no input device installed.
I'm thinking of going back to a decent internal Soundblaster card like I have on my 8 year old machine I am replacing.

When I get an i.m on ichat it mixes up the letters with uppercase and lowercase how do I fix that?

    Hi,
    Depends.
Is it some sort of Incoming Override you have or their Outgoing IM Style ?
Go to the iChat Menu > Preferences > Alerts
Select Message Received in the top item/Drop down.
When selected check that the Apple Script option is Not On
If it is is the AppleScript Selected the Mix Message Case one ?
This is iChat 5 only (this particular AppleScript)
If the Buddy has it set against Send Message they Output Mixed Case IMs so it could be from the other end.

hi Guys, i mistakenly synced my iphone and all my email contacts appears in my contacts list. its mixed up. can someone please assist me on how to delete the email address ONLY?

Don't understand your problem... Contacts sync with a compatible address book or cloud service. Contact records can contain names, addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, notes, or any combination of these. If you have records you don't want in your address book that you don't want in your contacts, then segregate them into groups in your address book and only sync the group(s) you want. If you don't want them there at all, then delete them.

  • Mix between MS Outlook Calendar and Mac Contacts - how I got to work

I've tried to mix my work PC computer with Microsoft Outlook Calendar with my Mac based iPhone. This is how I did it. Can this be done by mobileme?
For Now it this works with Outlook over USB.
My Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 windows XP within firewall is now synchronized to my Phone
It now works great .. even if not wireless [can live with that..at least for now] and even if attachment does not sync no pdf, word, excel or pictures in the notes is synchronized.
Amazingly simple, I'm sure I tried this before ..but maybe the 2.01 changed something or iTunes 7.7.1 ..
    My set up
I have my master mac synced to the iPhone itself i.e. iPod/music and pictures
I have my contacts and mail synced as MobileMe.
I Turned off the iCal MobileMe
I connected the office laptop with usb connector to iPhone. ..it asks for where/how to sync photos. [To turn this off: On PC go to Control panel- Scanners & Hardware - Cameras. Select "Apple iPhone" ] and opens ITunes.
ITunes ask what to do since my iPhone is linked with another computer.. I click merge, make sure nothing on the iTunes is selected ..more than calendar and outlook.
Appears to sync fawlessy and update both to and from iPhone… subject and location and notes sync but no attachment. Notes have a characther limit. with a meeting request, I do not seam to be able to access participants. With alarm set this pops up even with screen/iPhone locked similar to how a SMS is displayed
It appears that most of the time I need to reconnect because ITunes reports "ITunes cannot sync information because sync has been disabled…Do you want to enable syncing" Clicking OK appears to fix it i.e. at least fix it temporarily
Syncing with MS Outlook works with it running but also when not running.
The first sync took some time, possibly because it also backs up the iPhone [some 10gb data]. Repeated sync takes a minute or less
..and in atypical PC fashion you need to restart iTunes and disconnect iPhone from time to time.
    Great!

The HP applications no longer work under Snow Leopard. Support for printing and scanning with HP devices is now built in to the OS. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669. Updated HP drivers are available at http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
I was unsure about which HP software to delete so I used the HP uninstall app to delete it all. Unfortunately, it deleted the new Snow Leopard installed drivers as well. I then had to download the HP driver set from Apple to restore functionality. Printing is just as it was before, but scanning is done differently and feels a bit strange at first. All in all, it is probably a good thing as I always found HP's software to be a bit clunky and crash prone. I do miss being able to scan from within Photoshop via the TWAIN selection, though. Perhaps that will return in time.

  • No Stereo Mix in Audition 3.0 or Windows 7 - How to Fix?

I'm trying to record the stereo mix from my computer in Audition 3.0, unfortunately there is no "Stereo Mix" option in either Audition's Audio Settings or in the Windows Sound Controls.  I've tried to "Show Disabled Devices" in Windows and yet there is no "Stereo Mix" option available.  In turn, the drop-down menu in Audition's Audio Settings doesn't offer a "Stereo" option for recording, just the computer mic.  How is it possible to fix this?  Is it as simple as a plug-in for Windows, or am I missing something?
Screencap attached, any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

--->Install the driver manufacturer's audio chipset. No the windows 7 driver.
Open the audio properties of windows 7
Right click on the tab within the recording
    Show disabled devices
    Enable the device you need
Double-clicking the device you will find the volume control recording
(the pictures I sent are in Catalan language)
(Not all audio chipsets are all options enabled)
(My english is not enougth to give you a better explanation)

  • Batch AC3 encoding from MP2 or MPA audio files

    Hello all!
I've been using bbDemux and mpgtx Demuxer to demultiplex my MPG-2 files captured with Telestream.
The result is an .m2v file (video stream) and an .mpa (audio stream from bbDemux) or .mp2 (audio stream from mpgtx).
When I put the .mpa or .mp2 files into Compressor 2 and try to convert them to .ac3 with the "Dolby 2.0" preset, I get an .ac3 file that contains no audio.
(I am checking to see whether or not it has audio by dragging it to an audio channel in DVDSP4).
In the past, before Compressor 2 came out, I would convert these .mpa or .mp2 files to .aif with Cleaner before converting to .ac3 with A-Pack.
Does anyone here know why Compressor 2 can't convert the MPEG-audio files to .ac3? It would save me a lot of valuable time to be able to do this!
Thanks in advance for any help or advice --
    Jerome Silverman
    Dual 1.25GHz G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

i set compressor to no compression and complete main. is there something i'm missing.
Try adjusting the Dialog Normalization setting to -31.
Setting it to -31 effectively negates the feature and maintains your previous audio level.
And, yes, volume getting reduced is a normal thing when compressing .ac3 (so long as Dialog Normalization is on).

  • Mix entire session in multitrack mode option?

In 1.5 there was an option to mix ahead in the multitrack view but I am seeing no comparable option anywhere in 3.0. It was down in the lower left hand corner and would do the traditional Windows thing of filling up the box as it did its work, and then let you know it had mixed sufficiently to play back the whole multitrack session, live. I need to be able to have this option because my sessions are hanging and stuttering endlessly. Anyone?

All very relevant questions. However, the session that I just loaded was one that I built in 1.5. It has 65 tracks (not all of them full, just overlays, harmonies and such). But this session worked perfectly in 1.5 and now its hanging like CRAZY. I have already done the conversion of the session so it will work in 3.0 - not sure what that entails but I responded appropriately when prompted - just like a dozen other sessions already.
Furthermore, I have already done all the freezing necessary in the original session (1.5)
Fact of the matter is, since upgrading, I added another gig of ram and installed a faster primary hard drive. This is not a PC issue. It is either in the configuration of AU3 or a bug in AU3 itself
With that said, I am buying a new computer in 8 weeks when I am receiving a very large check - (YEAY!!). In the mean time, I have some obligations and really need to sort this out - not to mention, it will help me understand the 3.0 version better too.
Thanks for the help and infinite respect to the developers. I am a loyal and longsuffering user (since cool edit 2000) and will go thru hell and highwater to get to the other side with Audition and its future upgrades.

  • My old computer no longer works.  I want to transfer my music from my Ipod to itunes on my laptop, but now mix it with my wife's music.  How do I do that?

My old Gateway is dead.  I have saved my 20 gigs of ipod music on an external hard drive.
On our Dell laptop, my wife has itunes music installed.  I want to add my music and use itunes to add more, etc., but I want to keep it separate from her music.
First, how can I transfer my music from the external hard drive to itunes, without it affecting her itunes.  Do I  need to set up multiple itunes with separate names, or, as support mentioned, make two playlists.
If it's the playlist version, how do I make a playlist with my 20 gigs of ipod music?  Thanks, Hup42

    Hey Hup42,
Thanks for the question. Based on the information you have provided, the best option may be to operate multiple user accounts on your Wife’s computer. The following article outlines this solution, along with another solution of having multiple iTunes libraries:
How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495
    Create multiple user accounts
Do you share your computer with someone who has different tastes in music and media? You can create separate user accounts for each person who uses the computer. You can maintain separate, personalized iTunes libraries and customize each devices' sync settings accordingly.
    Mac OS X users

    - OS X Mountain Lion v10.8
    - OS X Lion v10.7
    - Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard
    Windows users
Look in your computer's Help documentation to learn how to set up other user accounts. To find this information:
    1. Click the Start Menu and click Help or Help and Support.
    2. Enter "new user" in the Search field.
    3. Press Return.
If you create multiple user accounts on one computer but want the same media to be available in iTunes for all users, you can share music between different accounts on a single computer.

  • I backed up my iPhone information with ICloud but it mixed up contacts between me an my dad how do I get my contacts back

I backed up my iPhone today and it changed all my contact, is there any way I can change my contact back to the way they were before I backed it up without going to my home computer, I can use a different one but not the originnal since me and him don't talk any more. Thank you for your help!

Usually it means that your calendar has been synced by something other then icloud. If it was an email account you just need to set up mail account and it will populate. To check if your calendar was synced with cloud you can go to www.icloud.com and sign in. Once you do check under calendars if you have any info.

  • No center & LFE audio on ac3 import

I am using Premiere Pro CS6v.6.0.5 with Surcode plugin.  I am creating a project for final output to BD.
When I import any 5.1 ac3 file into the 5.1 track in the timeline the center channel and the LFE channels are not audible.
The ac3 file does include all 6 channels as verified in Audacity
When importing as 5.1 there is no option to map channels in the Audio Mixer (mapping pucks, changing levels not visible)
All channels appear in  waveform when I double click on file in bin.
All channels appear in the bar graph Audio meter and Audio Mixer panels
    No C/LFE heard.
As a workaround I tried importing ac3 as 6 channel mono on standard tracks where I do have the option of mapping each channel in DD format (L,R,C,LFE,LS,RS)
I map each channel as above, leaving the levels in the default position.
All channels appear as waveform when double clicked.
All 6 channels appear in the Audio Mixer but only 4 show in the Audio Meter panel (no C/LFE).
I have Center channel audio to edit with, however, after encoding, all audio is mixed into channels 1,2 & 5,6 with no audio in channel 3 & 4 (C/LFE)
This is confirmed using Audacity to check the channels.
Now if I move the C/LFE pucks to max position when editing I will lose the C/LFE audio to edit with but there are now 6 channels appearing in both the Mixer and Meter.
When I encode the project the channels will map properly, however, if I bring the file back into PP there is no C/LFE audio once again.
Is there a setting that I have missed that is causing the C/LFE not to be played back and ultimately encoded improperly?
Apologies for the length of this question. If any further info is needed please let me know.
    Thanks!

I have tried both leaving them in the default position and adjusting them to the Dolby Digital L,R,C,LFE... - the issue remains. I have also determined the issue is not only with ac3 but with wav as well. This leads me to believe there is a mapping issue here. Perhaps if I start afresh. What is the correct Audio Output Mapping and Rt click>Modify>Audio Channels settings for using a 5.1 ac3 DD file so it can be encoded properly? I will start there and work forward. Thanks again for any ehlp.

  • Missing audio on AC3 encode

I have a small mix that plays fine in Soundtrack Pro. When I export the mix as an AC3 file 2 of the dialogue clips are missing. When I go back to my STP mix they are still in the mix but silent. If I reassign them to a different sub mix and then back to the original sub mix they play again. Unfortunatly there is no way to get them to play in the AC3 encoded mix. Does anyone have an inkling about how to fix this.

I'd start over with a new multitrack and place those files in it to try and track the problem.

  • Accessing center channel in Sony AVCHD video AC3 audio (5.1 surround)

I have tons of video shot on Sony HDR-CX7 and HDR-CX12 camcorders (AVCHD) in 5.1 stereo. iMovie '09 and Final Cut Express import the audio as two channel stereo, which is normally fine for a consumer app.
I use a Sony wireless microphone to record interviews, and I normally set the camera to record only the monophonic microphone audio. But, there is also a setting to let the camera record 5.1 stereo from it's built-in microphone, and use the wireless mic as the center channel audio.
I have footage recorded this way, and I find that when I play it back in stereo, I get a slight delay/echo caused by the wireless mic recording voices, and the camera recording voices (slightly offset). I cannot use the audio this way.
I want to extract the center channel audio from the AVCHD .mts files. I can then line that audio up with the video in Final Cut Express (or even overlay it in iMovie '09).
Does anyone know of a free utility that can strip out audio from AVCHD files?
It looked like Handbrake might work, but it errors out when it tries to convert more than two channel audio.
I believe the AVCHD audio is AC3 format, so if I can strip that out, Quicktime is able to mute the other surround channels.
    Any tips?

Here is my current status, and a work-around method to accomplish this.
First, using "ffmpeg" it is possible to extract just the .AC3 audio stream from a .MTS AVCHD camcorder file. I have tried to do this with the Mac OS X GUI version, ffmpegX, but it errors out. It looks like it is sending the wrong parameter to ffmpeg internally (or perhaps it is using a different ffmpeg command I have on my machine). Anyway, the command looks like this:
    ffmpeg -i 00000.MTS -acodec copy audio.ac3
That will extract just the audio stream from within the MTS file (which is an AC3 file). By default, you cannot play .AC3 files in QuickTime. It turns out, I had "Perian" installed, which is an extension for QuickTime that allows it to play a bunch of other files. One of the settings was a Stereo mode, which was causing anything I tried to play mix down to stereo. Aha! So, I could toggle that off and actually get to the audio track I wanted.
BUT, since native Mac OS X does not read .ac3, my workaround is to again use ffmpeg to convert the .ac3 file to a .aac:
    ffmpeg -i audio.ac3 -acodec ac3 -ab 512k audio.aac
Since the source AC3 file was 448kb/s, I just manually chose 512k as the conversion rate, so it shouldn't lose too much quality. That value can be changed to decrease file size.
The end result, "audio.aac", is now a 6 channel 5.1 audio file. You can open it in QuickTime, and go to Window->Show Movie Properties then select the "Sound Track" track, and the "Audio Settings" tab of that track, and you will see tracks 1-6 (Left, Center, Right, etc.). You can toggle the tracks off to get to the one you want (in my case, just Center).
From there you could export this out to a file with just the track you selected, or drag the .aac file in to Final Cut Express.
If you drag in to Final Cut Express, you will see it takes up five audio tracks. I drug this under the original imported video track, and was able to mute the ones I did not need. I also found I could unlock the audio from the video, and then delete the ones I didn't want, just to clean up the edit window a bit.
The end result is now I can import the AVCHD file in to Final Cut Express, and bring in this converted AAC under the video to access just the center audio I wanted.
When I have time to streamline this process a bit more, I will update this topic.

  • Converting .wav to .ac3

    Hi Everyone,
I have a stereo mix and a 5.1 mix from a pro mix session and I'm trying to determine the proper way to convert them to AC3 files.
The stereo mix consists of two separate .wav files. How can I convert them to a single .ac3 without altering anything that was done during the mix? I feel like I'm missing something obvious, but I've searched the forums and the Compressor User Manual, and I can't seem to find the answer.
The only way I could seem to combine the files in compressor was by using the add surround sound button and manually placing the Lt and Rt channels and then dropping the dolby 2.0 profile on it. I wasn't sure though if by using the surround sound area that I was harming the integrity of the mix.
For the 5.1 files, which are all properly tagged (i.e Lf, Ls, C, etc.) in the filenames, do I use the add surround sound to assign the channel? This one seems pretty clearly explained in the manual, except that I'm using .wav files.
Thank you in advance for your help. Sorry if these are dumb questions!
    Michael

The converted file will be saved to the same folder the original file is in. You have to delete the original if you don't want it, there's no setting to have iTunes automatically delete it. Party shuffle isn't a folder it's just a playlist of sorts, it's made up of various songs that are in your library.
