5520 - Server Connection Error 403

Hi Kyle,
I imagine it's getting quite boring for you, since you've been hearing the same story for over one year...!
I bought a 5520 a few months ago, it worked fine till a few days ago. Since then I can't "scan to email" any more.
May I ask you to send me asap the instructions to fix it please ?
Many thanks in advance !

HI Barton64,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums.  I see that you are no longer able to use the scan to email feature of your Photosmart 5520 printer.
Please start by setting a manual IP address and manual DNS servers for your printer. I have included a link to another post that has the steps with screen shots.  Don’t worry that the screen shots are for a Photosmart 7510, the steps are the same.  Once you’ve set the manual IP and DNS servers, you should be able to connect to web services and use the scan to email feature.

  • Deskjet 5525 Server Connection error 403 - scanning documents

I cannot scan and send documents/photos to email or computer. It is connected wirelessly to internet, but keeps coming up with Server Connection Error : 403. I have reset to factory settings on the printer, but no change.
What do I do, to be able to scan? My computer is a Mac using OS X Yosemite

    Hi @ FF9451,
Welcome to the HP forum. I see you have two separate yet similar issues with scanning.
I would like to help you with these issues.
I just want to doubble check, is it a Deskjet 5525 or Photosmart 5525?
The first issue i would like to address is the scan to email. This one is the same with either a deskjet or a photosmart.
Lets start off simple, so unplug the printer while it is turned on. Might as well turn off any computers, tablets and smart
TV's also. Then unplug your router for a minute.  After the minute, plug the router back in. Depending on the router it can take few minutes to rebuild the network. While your waiting plug the printer back in. you will notice the blue wireless light is blinking. When it stops blinking your printer is on the network again.  Try the scan to email, if it does not work, the printer might need a manual DNS.  This post: Efax 7510 still won't work, from happytohelp01, I have found really well done, so go ahead and check it out. I know every EWS (embedded web server) is laid out differently so if you need any help let me know.
The second issue is scanning to the computer. Here i have a few questions. are you using Apple scan or HP scan?
Is the Hp software installed? Have you removed the printer and then added it again?

  • Server Connection Error 403 - HP Photosmart 6520

My scanner all of a sudden stopped working and I got "Server Connection Error 403"
    How do I fix this?

    Hello @SeanTK ,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand that you are getting a Server Connection Error 403.
    I would like to help.
You would only receive the 403 error if you are using scan to email.
There are a few things you can try to resolve this issue.
    Hard reset the printer.
While the printer is turned on, unplug the power cord.
    Wait at least 30 seconds.
Plug the power back into the printer.
    Test the scan to email.
If you still get the error, try setting a manual DNS.
The following post by happytohelp01 has instructions for setting the manual DNS.
It is for a Photosmart 7510, but the steps should be very similar.
Re: Efax 7510 still won't work after turning off/on ePrint
If the Error is still present after setting the manual DNS, you should cycle your network.
Turn off your network devices, including the printer.
Unplug the power to your router for about a minute.
Plug the power back into the router.
Turn on your printer, and the other network devices.
When the blue wireless light on the printer stops blinking, try the scan to email.
Another option is to remove then re-enable the printers Web Services.
This will act like an uninstall and reinstall.
Caution: removing the printers Web Services will cause it to permanently loose its ePrint address.
If the ePrint address has been customised then that address will be lost forever.
Once you enable the Web Services again you will have to setup the scan to email.
This will provide you with a new pin.
If you need further deatail on any of the steps, please let me know.

I too have a 403 error code on my photosmart 5520. I have turner off the router & 5520, I have a connection, but still cannot scan to email.

    Hello @TPGJT,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand that you are experiencing a server connection issue when trying to scan to email.
    I would like to help.
I recommend setting a manual DNS.
I have had the most success when using Google's DNS address.
    Primary 8.8.8.8
    Alternate 8.8.4.4
The following post by happytohelp01 has the instructions for setting a manual DNS.
The post is for a Photosmart 7510 but the steps will be very similar.

  • Server Connection error 403 on 5520 series

I can no longer scan to email.  Please tell me how to fix this problem.  The phone was out and I had to switch everything off and then bring it back up.

    Hi glenno39,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums.  I see that you are unable to use the scan to email feature of your Photosmart 5520 printer because you are getting an connection error message.
There are several steps I would like you to try please.
    Please turn off your printer.
Please turn off your router.  If your router doesn’t have an on/off switch, please unplug the power cord from the router.
After waiting a full 60 seconds please turn on your router (or plug it back in).
After the router has completed its startup routine please turn on your printer.
After the printer has completed its startup routine, please test the scan to email feature.  If it works there no need to continue with any further trouble shooting steps.
Please set a manual IP address and manual DNS servers for the printer. I have included a link to another post with the steps, including screen shots on how to do this.   Don’t worry that the screen shots show a Photosmart 7510 printer, the steps are the same.
Please test the scan to email feature.  If it works there is no need to continue with any further trouble shooting steps.

    Hi @ashiwild
Welcome to the HP Support Forums. I see that you are getting a connection error message when trying to use the scan to email feature of your HP printer.
I am presuming that you have a Photosmart or Envy series printer. Please set a manual IP address and manual DNS server for the printer. I have included a link to another post that has the steps, including screen shots, on how to do this. Don’t worry that the screen shots show a Photosmart 7510 printer, the steps are the same.

  • Server connection error 403

what do i do now to remedy

    bkgray,
I am assuming you are receiving the Ajax Error 403 when you are trying to log into your account at http://www.eprintcenter.com?
This seems to be a browser issue that happens sporadically. If you have another browser installed on your computer, I would try using that see if it gives you the same error. This should work, but if it does not, let me know and I'll see if there is anything else that we can try.

I have a HP Photosmart 6520 and the scan facility has stopped working, it used to work but now won't scan to email or to the computer. I've tried the various suggestions on this forum including reloading the printer drivers and changing the DNA address but nothing works. The printer is connected to the right wifi. Could someone please send me the solution that has been sent directly to other users with this problem? Many thanks

  • Re: server connection error 403 on photosmart 5520

I have this exact same problem, could you please help

    Hello sharon744,
I see you have the Photosmart 5520 and it not allowing you to connect to Web Services. I would like to offer a few suggestions.
Check for updates on the printer, Getting the Latest Firmware and Product Updates.
Power off the printer and ensure the power cord is connected to a wall out let.
Power reset the router. If it has a power button press that, if not, remove the power cord. Wait 60 seconds and then allow it to power back up. Once router is fully on, power up the printer.
Try connecting, if it works there is no need to continue. If it doesn't, try the next suggestion.
Refer to this Thread answered by a colleague of mine happytohelp01 : Efax 7510 still won't work after turning off/on ePrint several times. Follow the steps to setup a Manual I.P and DNS for the printer over the network. The steps will be the same, if not very similar for your printer as the one in the above post.
Try connecting once done. If still unable to connect, continue below.
Go back to the above Thread, rather than using the DNS suggested try this set; Primary DNS Server : 209.244.0.3 & Secondary DNS Server : 209.244.0.4.
Try to connect, if the feature is still not working you will need to call HP's Cloud Support team. If you live in the USA/Canada, 1-855-785-2777. If you live outside the USA/Canada, click HERE to find the Technical Support number for your country/region.

  • Deskjet 5525 Server Connection Error 403

Hi. I am accessing my Deskjet 5525 printer using a Google Chromebook and Google Cloud Printer setup. I am not able to scan. All is well in the scan sign-in process until I hit the 'Document' icon and the printer attempts to connect to the server. I then receive a 403 error message.
I have deleted the printer from my Cloud setup and added it again. I have powered down the printer to reset it, as suggested in another post on this board.  Neither of these steps work. The printer shows as being connected to my wireless router and provides an IP address and a MAC number.
Any suggestions you may have about how to enable scanning will be appreciated.

I did a Wireless Device reset and now the scan process is working. No help needed.

  • 5520 connection error 403

I've had my HP5520 for some time now and not usually had any probelms with scanning to e-mail. However, I've come to use it today and I just keep getting the message unable to connection to server connection error 403 against both e-mail address stored. I've looked through other forums and tried a few suggested solutions (power off reset, deleting and reinstalling the e-mail address, restore network default and re-running wireless setup wizard, etc) but nothing seems to work.

    Hello @AndyL05,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand when scanning to Email, you receive a message unable to connect to server connection error 403 using the Photosmart 5520 . I will do my best to assist you!
Please try setting an alternative DNS to see if that resolves the issue:
    •    Press the wireless icon on the top of the printer screen and locate its IP address.
    •    Open an internet browser on your computer and type in the printers IP address in there.
    •    Click the Network tab.
    •    Under Wireless click on IPv4.
    •    Under DNS Address Configuration select Manual.
    •    Set the Preferred address as 8.8.8.8
    •    Set the Alternate address as 8.8.4.4
    •    Click Apply twice to confirm the change.
    •    Turn the printer Off and back On and see if the issue is resolved.
If this doesn't work, then call HP’s Cloud Services at 1-855-785-2777 if you live in the USA/Canada region.
