5gen iPod not loading in iTunes or iPod updater 2006

I just got this 5th gen iPod for christmas and I have just started having these problems. I plug the ipod into the computer and nothing happens -no load in iTunes and the updater doesn't read it.
Just before this problem started happening the iPod would skip or freeze while playing songs. It would start out as just a delay of the song and the time reading would freeze but the song would keep playing. Then they would both freeze and I would have to restart it.
I need all the help I can get -thanks

iPod Updater 2006-01-10 has caused a lot of problems for a lot of people. If you were experiencing problems before you attempted to install the updater, I suggest you phone Apple's tech support and take advantage of their free within 90 days of purchase support. Or, if you have an Apple store near by, drop in and let them take a look.
If you had no problems before attempting to install the iPod Updater 2006-01-10 I suggest that you post a "me too" message to the "Complete iPod Failure" thread from 1-23-1006 ( http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=330396&tstart=0 ), with a description of the problems you are experiencing and what model iPod you own. That thread is an effort at consolidating discussion of this specific issue, as well as a collection of the myriad possible fixes available.
Then phone Apple's tech support (1.800.275.2273) and let them know you've had a problem with the iPod Updater 2006-01-10.
Choose menu selection #1, Technical Support, and talk the automated responder through your configuration.
Good luck!

  • Ipod not recognised by; Itunes, Explorer or updater

    Hello I need some help,
I have a U2 20 GB Ipod and have has no issues for 18 months. Now it can't be recognised by Itunes, Windows Explorer or the brand new updater and does not play back most of my music.
I have tried the 5Rs. However most of the time after resetting it shows either the folder icon or the sad icon. Occasionally it will fully reboot, but then will only play a few of my songs before skipping to the next one. Whilst its doing this you can really hear the harddrive going "crunch".
I have also tried Forcing it into disk mode and attempting to restore it using the new updater but then I only get the message "can't mount ipod" from the updater. Whilst it is connected to the PC the ipod hard drive continually spins up and goes crunch, stops and then starts spinning again. This doesn't stop until i disconnect it.
I have another Ipod which connects to itunes and the updater with no problems at all
Am I right in thinking that that the hard drive on my ipod has finally died?

I have had same problem for months, i sent my 40gb click wheel back after hours of trying the support and when returned exactly the same, i was getting a new pc in july so did everything from scratch again as only thing i'd not tried was a new pc and cable - still same problem and now apple say its over 1year old (15th June05) and want £160 to repair - it says in restore "unable to mount ipod", my computer only recognises it for a second whilst the ipod clicks and whirrs and then shuts down with a glint of the exclamation mark folder and this is after returning it 4 times for repair in the 1 year I had it after paying over £300 - my suggestion as i am doing is go to the small claims court and for a £25 fee sue them as its obviously not fit for purpose - by the way there's no one to talk to and no way to sent this feedback to apple direct!

Recently updated my ipod and went on itunes to get games for it. My Mac downloaded the games but they dont apear on my ipod. Have already synched my ipod to my Mac multiple times since downloading them.
How do i move them to it?

    - Do you have the aps checked to sync to the iPod?
    - Have you synced apps from that computer to the iPod before?
    - Are the apps compatible with the iPod and its iOS?
    - Do yu have Restrictions set that would [revent installing the pps? (Settings>General>Restrictions).

  • IPod not detected on iTunes and iPod SW Updater

Hello, I have a 30GB iPod Photo. Up until the time I upgraded to iTunes 5.01, my iPod would automatically update. Two days ago, I started having problems--I would get an 'unknown error -69' message, after say...200 songs are uploaded onto the iPod. I figured this was probably a software problem, so I downgraded to iTunes 4.9 and an earlier iPod Update. I also tried using System Restore points, but still, my iPod cannot be detected by the software updater and iTunes. I've tried everything the troubleshooters have said to do. Can anyone help me?
My iPod will not show up in iTunes, and for the updater, it says it cannot mount the iPod, or says to plug in an iPod.
Windows recognizes it, and I have realized something--when the iPod WOULD work, a little MP3 icon showed up next to the drive letter of my iPod under My Computer. Now, it just shows the icon of a removable disk.

I'm beginning to think that anything beyond 4.9 is junk for windows. If you can go back to itunes 4.9 then try that and see if it works.

I recently purchased two games. They show up in my iTunes purchases and apps, at one point they claimed to be downloading, but I cannot locate them on my iPod Touch.

  • Ipod not recognised by itunes or ipod updater

In the last week, each time i have tried to put music onto my ipod it has crashed my powerbook, and then the most recent time i plugged it in itunes said to use ipod updater and reset to factory settings. It no longer shows up in itunes at all and when it try to run the updater it says "plug in the ipod you wish to update" however when i do this, the updater does not acknowledge that it has been plugged in. It does however still mount and is perfectly functional as a portable hard drive, but there is no music on it anymore!!!!

  • Ipod not recognized by iTunes, won't update

My 4thGen ipod suddenly isn't being recognized by itunes. I've trying resetting, no help. I get an "ipod needs formatted" window, so when I try to run the ipod updater, the ipod still isn't recognized. But in MyComputer, it is recognized as "e drive".
I recently bought a new laptop and had everything moved from the old one and the ipod was synching perfectly, but this just started happening. I think the only thing that changed since my last synching was I installed Norton Antivirus.
    Thanks for the help...

A connection problem, it seems. Have you tried to disable Norton AntiVirus just to see if it helps?
I also suggest you charge your iPod fully (using an iPod AC charger) before connecting it to your laptop.

  • Nano is not recognized by Itunes or Ipod loader

i have a 2gb black nano and it is not recognized by my home pc or work pc (running windows xp) by either itunes or ipod loader.
after browsing through some topics, i found a way to enable disk mode, this allowed my nano to be recognized by ipod loader. i proceeded to do a factory restore to this running the november version of ipod loader and it displays "do not disconnect" forever. so i restart it manually by select + menu, then find out that it is still not recognized by itunes or ipod loader. realizing that disk mode allowed ipod loader to work, i tried disk mode on itunes and it recognizes it! so basically, my question boils down to...
Should itunes and ipod loader automatically recognize the nano once its plugged in while it is in normal mode? or do i need to keep enabling disk mode to update through itunes and loader? how many people have this same behavior running xp? Thx!

Wow I'm surprised this is such a common problem... So for those who can't connect with itunes and iloader: does disk mode work for you? Hit the center button and play button simultaneously after you reset it (right when the apple logo first appears) to enable disk mode... For me, this works all the time when connecting, but I don't think this is normal since i used to be able to connect in normal mode... maybe someday apple will realize we don't all have Macs...

  • 3rd gen iPod not seen by iTunes 7.6.2.9 on Vista

3rd gen iPod and iTunes 7.6.2.9 on Vista
Used to be flawless. I'd drop the iPod on the dock, Windows would
make that sound of a device attaching, my iPod would appear in iTunes
    and the updating would happen.
Then after going out of town for a weekend (for a funeral), I come back, and my iTunes doesn't see the iPod. I do all the things Apple support and this group has suggested in the past (uninstall/install/reformat iPod/clear registry). It works again! Hooray.
Last night, I plug in the iPod, and iTunes doesn't see the iPod---AGAIN.
I repeat the process above, but this time it doesn't work.
Now, I put the iPod on the dock, Windows beeps, the iPod displays "Do
not connect" but the iPod doesn't appear in iTunes. Eventually the
iPod display will change to a plain old charging display.
    Any ideas?

If you are connecting using USB (and it has the click-wheel ), it's probably a 4th gen iPod...
Not that it matters in this case. The most likely cause is the hard drive has become faulty. It may have worked when you reformatted the iPod the first time because any bad sectors were mapped out. If the drive has too many bad sectors (or has developed some other problems), reformatting will no longer work.
You can run some internal iPod tests using Diagnostic Mode. Use this handy guide to see how to put your iPod into this mode.

I want to import songs frm my Ipod to my itunes library.  Songs were ripped from CDs to the ipod not purchased from itunes store...how can this be done?

You would have to let itunes rip the songs from the cd's, or you would have to copy the music from the computer which ripped cd's.
iTunes does not support transferring music from the ipod unless it was purchased from the store.

How can I transfer the music in my old Ipod classic to a new Ipod (not only the Itunes purchases)?

You'll need to copy the music from the old iPod back to iTunes first before you can transfer it to your new iPod. See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.
