5th gen 60GB iPod takes for ever to bee seen by iTunes and Windows XP

Can anyone help me??
let me start by saying that I have tried the 5 R's and still nothing!
when i conect the ipod I hear the the sound the pc makes when you plug in a divice, but I will not see the ipod in "My Computer". maybe 15 min later itunes comes on and it starts syncing my iPod but then after about 100 songs it stops and says: "the disk can not be syncronized because it can not be read or written to" and the few songs that were synced, do work!! if I try again it will sync another 200 or so songs and stops again with the same message. SOMETIMES when I connect the ipod, iTunes will not see the software version or the serial number and continue to sync anyways.
after itunes tells me that it can not read or write the iPod it ejects it and it is no longer seen in MY COMPUTER either. PLEASE HELP

  • 5th Gen 60GB ipod turns off randomly

My iPod has a tendency to just turn off randomly. it'll leave a "ghost" screen shot of what was on it and then it slowly fades away to nothing. Then, the black screen and apple come up and take 20-30 seconds to reboot and start over at the main menu.
Any idea as to how to fix this?
    thanks

My 5th Gen 80GB ipod also turns off/restarts randomly after about 2-3 minutes of use. Very annoying and have had much trouble in trying to solve this problem.

  • My 5th Gen 60gb iPod freezes when watching video, help?

I recently bought my first iPod and have downloaded lots of music and photos. I recently bought the Xilisoft platinum converting programme and converted a couple of films to MPEG 4 and then on to the ipod. Now after sometimes as little as 30 seconds the picture freezes then after 5 seconds, the film continues without sound. I have tried this on all my videos on my ipod and they are all the same. Please can someone help me as it is very frustrating, thanks alot!!!!

You and a million other people. The problem is with firmware 1.1. To solve the problem you need to downgrade to firmware 1.0. You can look through the discussions where it's been covered ad nauseam.
What I did to downgrade mine:
Here's what needs to be done for downgrading to firmware 1.0 without losing any data on your iPod:
-Connect your iPod to your computer, ensure it's updated via iTunes, then disconnect it from the PC and exit iTunes
-If you don’t have the original firmware 1.0, download iPodSetup 2005-11-17 here:
    http://appldnld.m7z.net/content.info.apple.com/iPod/ww/win/061-2225.20051128.PDW nw/iPodSetup.exe
    - Then download iPodWizard here:
    http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=153441
(download the “Release”, the top link of the two)
    - Uninstall iPod for Windows 2006-1-10 if it was previously installed on your PC and reboot.
    - Install iPodSetup 2005-11-17
-Connect your iPod to the PC, make sure iTunes is not running
    -Launch iPodWizard.
-In the top left, click "Open Updater"
-Locate the iPod Updater.exe located in a sub-folder where you just installed iPodSetup 2005-11-17
-In the "Firmware:" drop down menu, select "5th Generation iPod (v.13.6.0)"
-Click "Load" just to the right of the drop down menu
-In the iPodWizard Essentials box on the right, it should say "Found 1 iPod drives:"
-Click "Downgrade Firmware". I'ts very quick.
-Click “Downgrade Firmware” once more. It needs to be done twice.
    -Close the iPodWizard
-Again, make sure iTunes is not running
-From your Start menu, run iPod Updater 2005-11-17 and click "Update", not "Restore"
-Once the update is completed (it takes a few minutes), exit the iPod Updater and run it again to view the new firmware number. It should read:
"Software Version: 1.0 (up to date)"
-Launch iTunes. A pop up window will ask you if you want to download the new software version 1.1. Tick the box "Do not ask me again" and click "CANCEL"

  • 5th gen 60GB iPod memory

    Hi there,
Not sure if this is a silly question, but I've almost used the entire memory of my trusty 5th generation iPod. The thing is - I've a folder of a few images I'd like to add, and while my iPod says I have 66.2mb left and the folder I want to add is only 3.4mb; it won't add it when I try synching it in iTunes. The message I get is that there isn't enough memory on my iPod.
I've tried optimising the images further, but still no luck.
While it isn't worrying me as I plan to buy a new iPod when I get a new laptop, I am wondering why it won't let me use the remaining memory (it just seems like a waste).
Anyways, if anyone has any suggestions - that would be awesome.
    Thanks!

Where are you looking at the "Available Memory" for the iPod?
How are you determining the size of what you are trying to add?
How are you "Adding Photos"? Manual sync or automatic?

I can't do app store apps (like snapchat or facebook, ect.) or apple apps (like Camera, Safari, ect.)It will take for ever to load what I write while texting. It also just goes to the black screen with the Apple logo. I'm not sure what to do.

    Try This...
Close All Open Apps... Sign Out of your Account... Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...
    If no joy...
    Reset all settings
Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings.
This will return all iDevice settings to factory defaults... you will not lose any data.... But you will have to re-enter all of the device settings.
    If the issue persists...

  • Ipod 5th Gen 60Gb keeps resetting and... (please read)

    Hi everyone.
My ipod 5th gen 60Gb keeps resetting itself when plugged to the wall charger.
Once it starts again it gives me the sad face and the "Very Low Battery" screen.
Tried to reset it and i gets to the screen that tells me to connect to itunes for restore.
When i do that itunes won't see my ipod.
How can i fix it? How do i get to finally restore my ipod? Is that an hardware problem? I did replace the battery and it finally has power for hours but i still have this tooth to pull out.
Can anybody help me please with some suggestions/solutions?
Your help would be really appreciated! Thank you!

I forgot to say: When i plug it it it gives me the apple for 5 - 6 seconds, the the SAD FACE with the link to the apple support page, then the "Very Low Battery" screen, then it restarts again and it does the same thing over and over again.
I can put it in disk mode, yes it will charge but if i attempt to plug in to the USB2 port (rear) of my computer with itunes open, it doesn't get recognized.
The hardware management of windows sees the ipod once i put it in disk mode. Then after 30 secs more or less it restarts and windows tells me the ipod device has problems.
    Help PLEASE!!

  • My friend's iPod touch 5th gen is locked somehow for 41 years and she does not have a backup. Is there a way to unlock the iPod without restoring it or loosing the pictures and videos from the camera roll?

My friend's iPod touch 5th gen is locked somehow for 41 years  and she does not have a backup. Is there a way to unlock the iPod without restoring it or loosing the pictures and videos from the camera roll, the applications can be redownloaded and she had no music. Is there any known bug about ipods locking on their own because no one seemed to have tried to bypass the 4 digit code and it is locked for 26 million minutes. So thank you if anyone has any information or help for us.

Your friend may have placed the ipod next to an object that repeatedly pressed the screen.  Under certain circumstances this can lead to what appears to the iTouch to be failed attempts to access the system.  After repeated failed attempts, the Touch increases the waiting time required for the password and may ultimately lock in the way you describe.
It's been a while since this was posted, but this might be informative to someone else who finds themself in a similar predicament.

  • If i have a shattered ipod touch 4th ggeneration and i trade it in at Apple Store for the ipod touch 5th generation Will they take it even though it is shattered? and will  i get my 10% recycling thing?

If i have a shattered ipod touch 4th ggeneration and i trade it in at Apple Store for the ipod touch 5th generation Will they take it even though it is shattered? and will  i get my 10% recycling thing?

As far as recycling, they will take one, dead or alive, so I assume a shattered one would qualify just as well.

  • The (sad) tales of a 5th Gen 80Gb iPod classic

    Hey folks,
So here's my story: for years, I had a 10 Gb iPod. I bought it when the model had just come out, so you can do the math of how long ago that was. Over all years of using that iPod, I never ever had a single problem with it. I always used it on my Windows PC, no problems at all.
The story sadly changed when I bought my new 80Gb 5th Gen. iPod (which was bought a couple months before the touch models came out, so it's now a Classic - sorry, that part always entertains me).
Since buying that one, I've had a few problems I never experienced before. Songs that always played perfectly on my old iPod seemed to freeze the new one (I kept a copy of most songs on an external HD, so I could listen to them at work and so on, which made it easier to upload them to the new one). 99.9% of the songs came from CDs I own, and ripped through iTunes, mind you.
For that and other reasons, I had to learn quickly how to reboot my new iPod, something I'd never done on the old one.
And now, the greatest problem of all is here: since I installed iTunes 7.5 on my PC, it crashed a couple times while managing my iPod. Earlier today, after it happened for the last time, I recalled iTunes to notice that many of my songs on my iPod - HUNDRED, mind you - are now missing. As I go through the list of songs in my iPod, I get the "white exclamation mark inside the grey circle" next to the name of the songs. As I try to play them on iTunes, they don't play. As I try to play them on the iPod, it automatically skips to the next song.
No, I do not automatically sync my songs, which means there's no reason it should look for them again. They simply "disappeared" physically from my iPod apparently.
I called Apple about it. The first tech person was, with all due respect, useless. His suggestions were simply "reformat my computer" (???) and "reformat my iPod," but he gave me no explanation whatsoever for why (does "because my sheet says so" sound familiar?).
I finally got to talk to a supervisor, who did sound extremely more proficient and knowledgeable about what she was saying. In her opinion, for one reason or another (again, ???), my iPod lost the path to those songs. So, although they are physically in there, the iPod doesn't know anymore how to actually find them to play. Her suggestion, unfortunately, is also to reformat my iPod, and reupload all the songs. This, however, would not save any of the Playlists that took me forever to fine tune, as there is no way of saving Playlists from iPod they know.
I am officially scared right now that I will spend hours reformatting the iPod and reuploading the songs, just to have the iPod do the same thing again, to the same or other songs. The other option I can think of is to reupload just these "hundreds" of songs manually, but, again, what's to say it won't happen again?
In some ways, I do miss my trouble free older iPod.
Hope this helps someone who may be considering a change, or may be experiencing something similar. If you are, I'd appreciate some input on the matter!
    Have a good one, folks,
    D.

Just wanted to give you guys an update: my iPod now works again fully, without having reformatted it, as Apple suggested.
I was reading some other posts around here, and decided to try something before going for the ultimate/decimating solution: redownloaded iTunes and reinstalled it. Install of checking for updates, I just went to Apple's site, and downloaded the whole thing. Plugged in my iPod, and now it all works! All the songs that wouldn't play before are now working just fine, as before.
Seems to me there's something funky on iTunes 7.5 for Windows or the upgrade process, which wasn't there in previous versions.
    Hope this helps!

Yes, your battery is likely toast and in need of replacement.  Not much else for troubleshooting here.  Sorry.

  • 5th Gen. Ipod won't restore. ???

I have a 5th Gen. Ipod. I have plugged it in and I have clicked RESTORE IPOD. It looks like it is doing the job, then......when it is all done...the Ipod says, "Connect to Computer to Restore" (It is already connected). Then the computer still shows the option to restore the Ipod. It will not allow me to do anything else.
What I have done so far
push and hold center button and menu button and wait for "apple" to appear.....it does...then shows.."Connect to computer to Restore" ...so then I do the following
    Restore on ITUNES
Plug it in -charge it completly
    Pray for it
    Stare hard at it
    Still scratching my head.

Did you try a hard reset with the iPod still connected to your PC?  Have you tried multiple USB ports, preferably high powered USB 2.0 ports?
To do a hard reset, first make sure the hold switch is in the Off position, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
Have you also worked through each and every single troubleshooting suggestion in this Apple support document?

  • HT1449 I've transferred my itunes library from PC to Macbook pro running latest itunes and now it will not recognize my iPods (nano 4 and 5th Gen an Ipod touch).  All music is there and playable but will not recognize any devices

I've transferred my itunes library from PC to Macbook pro running latest itunes and now it will not recognize my iPods (nano 4 and 5th Gen an Ipod touch).  All music is there and playable but will not recognize any devices. Help please

The ipod is not a backup/storage device.
You need to copy everything from your old computer to your new one.
The Apple store will do this for you,  you can call apple support and they will help you, you can use google.

  • Is it possible to download Audiobooks to a 5th gen 30GB ipod?

Would like to download audiobooks on my iMac to my 5th gen 30GB ipod for travel purposes. There is no Audiobooks tab for this during updates. Appears it's not possible. Anyone have a solution?

Never Mind! This situation resolved itself. After you have an audiobook downloaded and residing in iTunes a "Book" tab appears during update for both the iPhone and iPod. Then you can download it to either or both, devices. I asked the question prematurely before the audiobook was residing in iTunes and there was no book tab in either mobile device.
    Problem solved!
