Trying to update Route 66 with the DVD that came in the package; didn't work.
I got this far with this problem:
When i connect the phone to the PC (USB DKE2) after setting the USB-mode to datatransfer (menu / settings / connectivity / usb) the PS Suite icon in the systemtray reports "non-compatible mode" or something like that. Leaving the phone physically connected and switching USBmode to PCSuite, then PCSuite works OK. But I can't get connected in data transfer mode.
Anyone?

check the pc suite version you have.The latest is 7.1 and new phones wouldnt be supported by older versions of pc suite like 6.84.If you're using older version it will give such message.

PC Suite detecting in 'non-compatible' mode

I updated the PC Suite today. Now the PC Suite fails to connect to E71 in PC Suite mode. It keeps saying the phone has been connected in 'non-compatible mode'.

i doubt it is the USB ports. I have troubleshot an item ee'ons ago and it was once, i heard from a fat cousin, the usb port...let me know if that works.
i am having the same problem. im on windows xp 32 bit home, fw 410.21.010 e71-2. anyway, after many reinstalls, i have solved the problem a little in the sense that after uninstalling everything, and using the pcsuite cleaner and uninstalling ovi music and everything to do with ovi and pcsuite and cable drivers from my xp uninstall function and then going to the regedit and deleting from the CURRENT USER and LOCAL MACHINE, anything to do with nokia and pc connectivitiy cables, and then using ccleaner to clean everything and then a reboot and reinstall of the latest pc suite, DO NOT INSTALL THE 'UPDATE PHONE SOFTWARE' manager. i dont know how the phone is going to check for new FW, but for now, i can use pcsuite and will worry about updating the fw if and when nokia releases anything new, in the future. i took this opportunity to make better sense of my contacts and calendar and have set the sync function so i can sync with ovi - my contacts, calendar, notes.
pc has been very unreliable for me and my two e71's and e65.

OK I found the solution on the Asia forums. It's a setting within the phone that dictates what the phone does on a USB cable connection.
Menu>Settings>Config>Data Cable.
Change from Media Transfer to PC Suite and all is well.

Nokia 6500 Slide Connected In Non-Compatible Mode

Hi,I've cracked my screen and unable to access anything! I transferred my SIM (3 network) to another phone. Although the phone works all my contacts and messages have disappeared. I am quite positive they were saved to SIM. Anyway tried connecting using broken phone with SIM using USB and get message Connected in non-compatible mode and I still cannot access contacts or messages. I'm getting extremely frustrated can anyone help?

You have a S40 phone, Another thing you can try is, when you are sure the keypad is unlocked, connect the phone and after a few second press the right selection key(the one you usually use to step back or disagree or cancel) which should be cancel. If your phone is anything like my 5200 that will send it straight to connect via PC suite. I think even pressing the red button will do this(Not sure about the red button though but the right selection I'm certain about)

Nokia N70 connected in non compatible mode

First here are some facts: Im Using Pc Suite v6.83 on Windows XPsp2. Im using USB cable to connect to my N70.
Now here's the problem: The first time I used PC Suite after Installation, it worked fine. When I used it again the second time, it acted strangely. It didn't detect my phone correctly. It detected the N70 alright, but a baloon popped up from the PC suite Icon on the system tray saying "nokia n70 connected in non compatible mode". Then when I went to the Get Connected wizard, a warning popped up which says "Your phone is in file transfer mode and connot be used with PC suite. quit file transfer mode from the phone if you want to use PC suite". I wonder how could this be since I know that the N70 has no file transfer mode.
Then after finally having my phone detected correctly after diconnecting then connecting the USb cable, my system detected the phone as a digital camera imaging device and as a mass storage device, showing up in windows explorer aside from showing up in the Nokia Phone browser. I Don't think this is a normal bahaviour.
Then the third time I tried to use PC suite, it detected the phone as bing in in non compatible mode again. Yhis time disconnecting and reconnecting the USb cable didn't help.
I found some strange things in the windows device manager too. I found out that under portable device, the N70 was there but disabled and labled as not properly working.
Have you guys encounterd this prblem before? If you did maybe you can help me resolve it. Thanks in advance!

Nokia 6230 non-compatible mode?

Please help! when i connect my phone to pc it says 'connected in non-compatible mode' change to 'phone UI' What does that mean????

I have had Nokia phones for a while now, but transferring data between a Nokia phone via a computer and another Nokia phone is one of the most frustrating things there is in life!!
I only wanted to transfer my contacts from a N95 phone on O2 to a 6700 classic on T-mobile, should not be that difficult right?!
WRONG!!!
I take the sim card out of my old phone (N95) and put into my new one (6700) and it asks for a Restriction code, which I don't have and neither does T-mobile or Nokia!
I try connecting the N95 to my pc via usb on pc suite and data transfer and the computer recognises it but the Nokia pc suite does not, saying phone not connected and that it is in the incompatible mode ui!
I even downloaded the latest updated software for the N95 which took a while, and still no joy!
This is about the third time in 3 years this has happened that I can't transfer my contacts, but by using the windows software to open devices I did manage to transfer my contacts to the pc, but you can only then re-transfer them to the memory card where you can't then transfer them to the contacts file or sim card memory!
And even then in the memory card you can't open the individual contacts because the file format is not supported, vcf!!!
And yet amazing I managed to transfer my photos to the pc via lifeblog as easy as that!!!
It is incredible in this day and age that it is so difficult to transfer data from 1 phone to another which are the same make and using the correct Nokia software, and yes the Nokia website does have cheesey photos with really useless step by steps, that only state the obvious and do not really tell you anything that you don't know already!!!
And while I am here I must say that the N95 is a poor phone, very slow to start up, very slow to use, battery only lasts about 8 hours, terrible camera which struggles to focus on 2 different objects less that about a foot apart, i.e. it cannot differentiate and would only focus on the front object (and I am a serious photographer). The back cover is to weak and broke very easily and has had to be held on with tape! The signal has been terrible up and down like a yo yo, and it was not all O2's fault I have to hold the phone in a certain way for a while to try and gain a signal which makes me look like some kind weirdo!!
I'm going to get T-mobile to transfer the contacts for me on their non pc bit of kit now, otherwise I will be sitting there all day entering in each contact individually!!
Come on Nokia you really need to sort this very simple and yet very important issue out, please.......!!

how do I get out of file transfer mode when I connect my Nokia 515 to pc using a USB cable?
It says it's connected in non-compatible mode.
What I am trying to do is: update the software. I'm using the dual-sim version.
Wireless update is impossible, my mobile internet and 3G both work, but when I ask my phone to download software it says I have no network connection. That's why I tried connecting it, I installed Nokia Suite, which is incompatible, Nokia Software Recovery Tool, which is incompatible, Nokia Software Updater, which is incompatible, so now I'm trying Nokia PC Suite, which says the phone is connected in non-compatible mode, which is slightly better.
Does anyone know how to update it? it's on versino 09.04, it's Nokia 515.2, and RM-952.
This phone is outrageously expensive for a feature phone, thank god for the battery life and build quality, and even the camera is okay. It's disgusting that this lowest-tier bug-filled software is put on it (haven't installed a single downloaded app, yet it crashes every now and then while writing or receiving texts). Now I simply want to update it.
If anyone is able to help me, I hope they'll feel the most wonderful person in the world for at least a week, because that is what they'll be to me.
I am very good at following step-by-step solutions.

Okay, I solved the non-compatible mode thing! Because I'm a nice guy, I'm gonna tell how I did it, not like the guys on the other hundreds of forums I visited who just said "solved it ".
I had to connect as a modem, then windows looked for a whole bunch of drivers, and apparently one of the drivers it needed for modem connection is also helping the compatibility with normal pc suite connection.
Now, it also worked for the nokia software updater, but it said that the device is not supported as well.
I wonder if it also displays that message when there's no update available? On the site it says updates are into version 10, and I'm still into 9, but maybe there's still regions that still have what I have? I bought it on german amazon and am using it in Belgium (First World Country, yet it is not sold here?) The search for updates continues.

E61i- USB connected in non compatible mode.

My E61i is not getting recognised by the PC. I get the error "USB connected in non compatible mode."

Check under the connectivity menu then USB, that the mode is set to ask which connection you want when connected to a PC. If it is set to mass storage mode it will continue to connect in that mode until you either change it to PC Suite mode or if you set it to ask you always.
Best to set it to always ask then you can select the mode you need at different times.
When connecting o the PC select PC Suite mode

According to the screenshot the user wants to use Windows Media Player for the transfers. I am not sure PC Suit mode is going to help with that.

N8 and Ovi - saying Non compatible mode

I am setting up my Ovi sync with my new N8 - handset is saying it is in Ovi Suite and USB connectivity is default Ovi, however when connected to my laptop it is saying that it is not in Ovi mode.
What can I do?

Hello pleeze help...
phone wont charge,via charger or usb,(ive tried diffrent charger+usb leads) ive done a battery pull +sim,several times,it boots up,lights up,vibrates,showing nokia logo,then dies...
its my sons phone,he said he had been taking phoos 'with flash' when it went off,so i thought battery was possibly drained,it has said phone in file transfer mode....
ive tried most things,shouting at it,talking nicely to it,

Due to the lower voltage of USB charging via PC to mains charging, if the battery is completely drained it is not possible for charging via USB from the PC to charge enough to get the phone started; so that's why that won't work.
If more than one mains charger is failing to charge the phone, then you either have a faulty phone or the battery itself is faulty and cannot hold any charge. Either way, with a 'dead' phone there is nothing you can do yourself, you would need to take it to a Nokia service point to be fixed. The service point might be able to test the phone with a different battery whilst you are there, if the battery is faulty and less than 6 months old, it should be replaced under warranty. If the problem is with the phone itself, then the service point will keep the phone for repair.

Connected in non compatible mode

I am trying to connect for the first time my 6790 with my pc. It shows the above error and says no modem found. I am tryingto connect it with my usb cable. Thanks for any advice as to how to get this connected

Had the same problem. Try this. Go into your menu on your phone and go to data cables. Select the option for pc suites for data cable mode and your phone should then be recognized. Hope this helps.

Hi guys i try to update my phone`s software but i can`t.It`s connected and i can transfer files with pc suite but everytime i try to update the phone after it has been recognised by nokia updater it starts the update and after a few minute it disconnects

This msg comes out when I connect my N95 to the PC Suite and try to access my messages.
System suggest that I coorect it in my phone UI.
I don't know what that means.
Note: I am currently using PC Suite 6.8 and do not want

Actually I did not want the PC Suite 7,bcuz it cud not reduce the size of the videos as efficiently as the Nokia Multimedia player in the PC Suite 6.8 After uninstalling the PCS 7,I reloaded the 6.8,and realised that all functions were ok,except that messages can't be read when connected to the phone.
I've tried using the PC Suite cleaner,reinstalling and uninstalling the 6.8 several times from the Nokia CD,same
problem persists.When I loaded the PCS 7,no problem with the
messages But I don't want the PCS 7.
Has anyone else have this same problem?

N79 connected in a non compatible USB mode

Hi everyone, as being mentioned in the title, i'm facing this tedious problem whereby everytime when I connect my N79 using "Mass Storage" mode, my computer will detect it as non compatible USB mode.. can i know how to fix this problem as the window of my memory card keeps shutting by itself after a few seconds when I'm inside the folder..
With this, i cant even update or reinstall my phone software.. is my phone ok?
Btw, i'm using the latest Nokia PC suite with proper connection cable =)
