64-bit version of Essbase - worth it?

Hi,<BR><BR>The number of apps we are running is such that we're always pushing the limit on the amount of physical RAM available (we've got 4 gigs now). As I understand it, you need the 64-bit version of Windows 2003 to be able to address more than four gigs of RAM...and of course, that would imply (?) using a 64-bit version of Essbase.<BR><BR>Has anyone in the community here actually used a 64-bit version of Essbase? What comments can you offer about performance improvement, etc?<BR><BR>Thanks,<BR>Jared

Jared,<BR><BR>- We are running Win 2003 Enterprise (5.2 build 3790)<BR>- We are running Essbase 7.1.03 build 19 (32-bit)<BR><BR>Regarding Windows addressing 32 gig of ram versus a process addressing memory; I think there is still a per process limit to the amount of RAM a single process may utilize, eg: how much each Essbase application can utilize.<BR><BR>Here is an article: <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;555223">http://support.microsoft.com/d...x?scid=kb;en-us;555223</a><BR><BR>Improvements are based on running 6.5.4 upgrading to the above version this year.<BR><BR>We chose the 32-bit version in general b/c the corp chose it. Not sure what the cost differences are or performance differences for better/worse. <BR><BR>I think the main reason you would want to use the 64-bit version would simply be in relation to the number of members that the outline could hold, in theory... at least from what I have heard.<BR><BR>Stability has been good. I have seen improvements in calculation performance for "calc all" and for complex calculations ie: using rates and @XREF() connections and 60 - 70 pages of IF statements / fix statements.<BR><BR>In general we restart Essbase much less and our applications appear to be more stable in general. We run approximately 50 concurrent applications and utilize about 11 gig of RAM.<BR><BR>ASO has also provided some new advantages in agg. time, etc...<BR><BR>Hope any of this helps.<BR><BR>Thanks,<BR><BR>JB-

  • 64 bit version in Essbase version 11 performance compared to 32 bit

    Hi :)
I am interested if anyone could tell me about performance experience in an Essbase 64 bit version 11.x.x installation compared to a 32 bit version 9.3 installation? I am currently working with BSO cubes and would like to know if we could aggregate/calculate cubes faster switching to a newer version and a 64-bit installation.
    BR
    Michael

You can address up to eight threads in parallel calc in 64 bit versus the four in 32 bit.
And you have much more efficient access to memory.
I know I have read of some people seeing slower performance post the move to 64 bit, but that's the exception, not the rule.
You may have to reconfigure (it's likely a good chance to examine your applications regardless of what you end up doing) the block and the caches and maybe even the calcs to get the best performance, but regardless of what you end up doing, moving to 64 bit should see significant speed increases.

  • What version of Essbase Excel add-in support 64 bit Windows 7 on our PC?

    1) Can anyone tell us what is latest version of 64 bit Essbase Excel-add-in 11.1.1.3.x and will this latest version of Essbase Excel add-in support 64 bit Windows 7 on our PC?
    2) we downloaded Essbase excel add-in 11.1.2 and was not able to connect to Essbase 11.1.1.3 server. It gave an error message - "This version is newer than the Essbase server." Is there a workaround? (we were hoping 11.1.2 would support 64 bit windows 7)
ps. There is a knowlegebase article that teaches us how to get Smartview 11.1.2 to connect to Essbase. We could not quite follow the badly written KB artible, but Ms. V from Oracle tech support claims she was able to connect and she wrote the article.
We did manage to get Smartview 11.1.2 to connect to Planning 11.1.1.3!!

    Thanks John and Jasmine.
    John,
I am able to connect using Essbase excel add-in 11.1.2 and see the list of Essbase server 11.1.1.3 app/databases. However when I tried to select one of the applications/databases, I get the Essbase warning "This version of Essbase 11.1.1.3) is older than the version of the Essbase API (11.1.2.0) you are using."
I get sent back to Essbase system Login screen and am asked to select a app/database. Add-in keeps giving me the above message - none of the 11.1.1.3 databases would allow me to connect.
I guess you guys did not experience this problem?

  • ITunes on XP 64 bit ... Can I Run a 32-bit Version?

I understand that there is no supported version of iTunes that will run on XP 64-bit, but I followed a hack that I found and got it running on my XP 64-bit machine at work. The problem is that I am now getting an error message that says something about "Can't save library, not enough memory" or something like that. I have 6GBs of RAM and almost 200GB of space open on my HD. Is this a common error using a hacked version of iTunes? Is it possible to install and run a 32-bit version on a machine running XP 64-bit? I have both 32 and 64-bit versions of Photoshop and they both run fine.
I also have Service Pack 2.
    Thanks in advance...
    Lloyd

Here's what one user said to to to get iTunes to run in Vista/XP 64 bit.
Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right Click on Command Prompt -> Run As Administrator.
    Type “cd C:\Windows\SysWOW64″
    Type regsvr32 vbscript.dll
If you don’t do Run as Administrator, the regsvr32 will fail. Also, be careful to run the command in SysWOW64, not System32! System32 on a 64-bit system actually contains the 64-bit system libraries.
No guarantees, but it might be worth a try. You may find alternative workarounds if you search this forum for "XP 64". None of the workarounds I've seen have been completely functional, so an upgrade to a newer version of Windows is probably something to consider.
    Regards.

  • 64-bit version of Quicktime for Windows

I'm running 64-bit version of Windows 7 via bootcamp.  I'm running 64-bit version of Microsoft Office 2010.  I have the latest version of Quicktime installed 7.7.3 something.  I can play the file on the desktop no problem, but when I try to insert the file into Powerpoint or play a file that I inserted previously into Powerpoint on a different system, it says either Quicktime unavailable or you need a 64-bit version of Quicktime in order to insert the file.
So, exactly where is a 64-bit version of Quicktime for Windows because apparently the one on the Apple website for Windows is not 64-bit.  Everyone keeps saying download the 64-bit version of Quicktime.  Great, tell me where it is.  There is no option for 64-bit on the website.  It doesn't even say it is 64-bit.  It just says its compatible with Windows 7.  Powerpoint 2010 64-bit MUST have a 64-bit version of Quicktime in order to insert or play any Quicktime file.  The OS doesn't give a rats @ss one way or the other.
The file I previously inserted was playing on a system that apparently had a 32-bit version of Powerpoint installed.  That machine defaults to VLC player on the desktop.  It has no issues with the file.  It's the Quicktime Player mismatch on my machine that is giving me grief.  If I knew Office was going to be a PITA if I installed the 64-bit version I would have stuck with the 32-bit version.
Ideas?  Where is the 64-bit version?  How do you tell it is 64-bit?  How do you force the installer to make sure it ONLY installs a 64-bit version of it?

If Microsoft merely off their own decided that only a 64-bit version of QuickTime was going to be supported by them and did not both checking such a beast existed then this is perfectly believable behavior on the part of Microsoft and they should roast in **** for it.
If Apple led Microsoft to believe that a 64-bit version of QuickTime was going to be released like a 64-bit version of iTunes for Windows has been released but then backed out then this is equally believeable behaviour on the part of Apple and then equally the guilty parties at Apple should roast in ****.
It should be noted that the 64-bit version of iTunes is able to play videos via the 32-bit version of QuickTime. This suggests Microsoft programmers are weak with the force. This would tend to support my theory that Microsoft despite being the biggest software company in the world are better at making hardware than software.
Moving on to trying to be more constructive…
Clearly as things stand using the existing and only official version of QuickTime for Windows which is 32-bit only is not going to work in 64-bit Office. It might therefore be worth looking at trying the following.
Uninstall completely Apple's 32-bit QuickTime for Windows (if installed currently)
Install QuickTime Alternative - see http://www.free-codecs.com/download/QuickTime_Alternative.htm
I have no idea if QuickTime Alternative is 64-bit, I have no idea if it will work in 64-bit Office even if it is 64-bit. However it does work in Internet Explorer for Windows, it is free and therefore will cost you nothing to try. If it does not work you can then always uninstall it.
As another even more abtruse solution, you could try loading your PowerPoint file in to the free iWorks i.e. KeyNote via a free iCloud account. It will allow importing PowerPoint files and will even work in Internet Explorer.

  • HT4407 It will not burn the 32-bit version of the software.

Mac Mini 2012.  I've tried twice and it will not burn me the 32-bit version of the Bootcamp drivers for my Windows 7 32-bit install.  Where can I get the blasted 32-bit drivers?

For what it's worth, I don't have OpenCL capability in 32 bit Photoshop either, and I have an ATI card.
Notably the 32 bit Adobe GPU sniffer application says nothing about OpenCL support.  It may just be something they don't do (though I have never been able to get them to say so).  It would make sense for them to concentrate on 64 bit mostly, since there's no Macintosh 32 bit version at all.
As far as I understand it, if you don't have OpenCL, Photoshop will attempt to implement GPU programming via OpenGL shader, so you may not be missing anything at all.

  • How to install iTunes 12 64-bit version?

I have a laptop on Windows 8.1. Previously I had iTunes 10 32-bit version for awhile. It was reliable most of the times (sometimes the program freezes when playing/pausing songs etc.) but decided to upgrade to iTunes 12 64-bit version so that it would hopefully resolve that issue. I have downloaded from the official Apple website which states it's the 64-bit version but when I install it onto my PC, it is just the 32-bit version. How can I change it to 64-bit or is there an option to select it to 64-bit during installation?
    Thanks for reading.

You can't arbitrarily select which version to install - you must use the installer that's compatible with the release/edition of Windows that you are using.  You may be seeing the consequences of the fact that the 64-bit version of iTunes is not *completely* 64 bit - the main application is still 32 bit and will therefore, on a 64 bit system, be installed in the Program Files (x86) folder.  Other components are, however, required for correct operation with a 64-bit version of Windows.  If you download iTunes from the primary source (http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/) scripts on Apple's webpage will detect the architecture of your PC and only offer the correct version for it ... though there is some anecdotal evidence that those scripts may fail for some users, and you may need to go directly to the relevant downloads:
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe
See turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for more details if you're still having problems with installation.

I am trying to install Labview 2011 SP1 Evaluation on Windows 7 64-bit OS. I had a 64 bit and a 32 bit version installed after the first version because there were some tools that I wanted to install that would not install on the 64 bit version.  There seem to be 2 different program file directories now: Program Files and Program Files (x86) so I'm assuming that they are for the two different versions of LabVIEW.  In the Program Files / National Instruments / LabVIEW 2011 directory there is a LabVIEW.exe file, but in the similar (x86) directory there is no LabVIEW.exe file.  It seems like there is no 64 bit LabVIEW version still installed in this computer. When I downloaded the CAN device drivers and installed the package, the sub VIs did not show up in the tool bar when I ran LabVIEW. However, when I look in the (x86) version files I see the CAN folder installed in the 64 bit program files directory!  Should I uninstall the current version and reinstall the 64 bit verson to fix this CAN problem, or is there another way to fix this
You got it mixed up here. Microsoft decided that Program Files is always meant to mean the native version, which means that for Windows 64 bit, any 64 Bit applications get installed there. Program Files (x86) is for 32 Bit applications that will run inside the Win32 subsystem in Win64. Most NI Toolkit and driver installers only install into 32 Bit. So if you use LabVIEW 64 Bit you will usually have to copy the files from the Program Files (x86) directory into the according Program Files directory, making sure you maintain the same hierarchy.

  • Browse in Adobe Bridge CS6 - default to 64-bit version

I have Adobe Bridge CS6 32-bit and 64-bit installed. I prefer to use the 64-bit version, but whenever I right-click a folder in Windows Explorer and choose 'Browse in Adobe Bridge CS6', the 32-bit version always opens. How can I make this default to the 64-bit version? There doesn't seem to be a way to uninstall the 32-bit version.

    Edit your System Registry on:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\Bridge
Change the path that is pointing at 32bit version and set it to point at the location of 64bit version:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Bridge CS6 (64 Bit)\Bridge.exe "%L"

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, does your device connect without that message now?

My problem is I cannot find an apple installer on the laptop to uninstall & I have searched Apple & Google for help and have seen others posts with the same issue but alot of the answers unfortunately I can't follow. I would greatly appreciate it if you can you answer any of these questions for me?

    Hi Tintin01,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you're being repeatedly prompted to install the 64-bit version of iTunes, I'd suggest first completely uninstalling iTunes and all its related components using the steps found here:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Once you've uninstalled iTunes and its components, install the latest version of iTunes found here:
