8-bit settings won't save in preferences

I installed the Lightroom 4.1 RC on both a 64-bit and 32-bit computer yesterday.  Sometimes I want to send an 8-bit image to Photoshop when working with my 32-bit computer.  I have tried changing that option in the Lightroom preferences, but those output choices will not save on either computer.  I know, I can change in Photoshop.  But it's just one of those little annoyances that I noticed.  Has anyone else seen this?

JimHess wrote:
Actually, there's an easier way to solve the problem than that.  Just convert to 8-bit in Photoshop.  I just ran across the issue yesterday and thought I would mention it.  Seems to me that in this new version of Lightroom wasn't quite as ready for prime time as it should have been.  I think I'm going to purchase it, but sometimes I wonder.
Actually this is probably one of the reasons the Adobe LR team has "locked down" (auto highlight recovery and black point adjustment) or automated (CA Removal) certain features in LR4. By doing so it makes it easier for LR beginners and other users who aren't "tech savvy" to get started, and helps prevent getting bad results by misusing certain tools. The External File Handling options lock down in LR4 Preferences is perhaps another example...I don't know.
If your intention is to continue to work on an image in LR after making edits in PS, then it's best to leave the file in ProPhoto RGB and 16bit mode. There are some who may argue on this point, but using a wide gamut color profile like ProPhoto RGB with 8bit/color is risking visible banding (i.e. wide gamut + fewer density steps). There's nothing stopping you from "converting" image files in LR to whatever format, color profile, compression and bit depth you want using the 'Export' tools.
Maybe I'm missing your objective with 8bit export to PS?

  • Updated Firefox won't save my preferences; reverts to original settings.

A few days ago, Firefox updated itself to the 18.0.1 version. Now, each time Firefox updates itself, I tend to lose some of my preferences, those being: opening new tabs as a blank page, tabs being on the bottom, and showing my windows and tabs from last time. Usually, though, once I go and change these things back to the way I like them, they stay like that and I have no further problems.
However, this time Firefox won't save my preferences. The tabs go back to being on top, the tabs I last closed aren't there, and these tool bars I don't want keep appearing. Instead, three tabs are always there upon opening Firefox: Welcome to Firefox, Mozilla Firefox Start Page, and Yahoo! Toolbar. Also, when opening a new tab, the page says, "page does not exist" or something, and the URL is not even comprehensible, just random letters like someone bashed their head into the keyboard, something like: "jkfui87$^&%$$09."
I've tried resetting Firefox like it says in the "How to fix preferences that won't save" page, but it didn't help. As for deleting certain files from the profile folder, before I resetted Firefox, I only had "user" and "prefs" and "Invalidprefs" which weren't exactly what that self-helping page asked for so I didn't delete them. After I resetted Firefox I lost the "user" file, but I still have the other two. Should I try deleting them even if they're not exactly like the page describes? They are missing the ".js" part so I haven't felt comfortable messing with them.
Please give me some advice. I'm tired of having to go change my settings in "about:config" each time I open Firefox. But I really don't want to try anything that would delete my bookmarks or history, as I'm very dependent of them.

Obviously no one here actually READS these things, I tried all of that even did a clean install, even uninstalled all user data and THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE!
Your help is completely useless, All you people do is copy and paste the same thing over and over. If it didn't work the first 20 times it's still not going to work no matter how many times you copy and paste the same fucking link.
You have lost a die hard fan of Firefox, I am switching to another browser.
Unfortunately I tried older versions of Firefox and had to go all the way back to Firefox 4 and now the problem is fixed.

  • QTerminal settings won't save ..

My settings for the terminal emulater QTerminal won't save. I'm just trying to add transparency. I can set transparency in preferences, which works, but only until I close the terminal window, on next restart it's back to default settings (sort of - it does save my font size and other settings, but not transparency or the option not to show tabs if just one tab open..)
I don't understand - even if I edit the .config/qterminal.org/qterminal.ini file manually and add the transparency, and then set it to read only for user/group/others, it STILL won't have the transparency when I open it, even though the config file still has it. I had it working before but dont know how, this happened after a reinstall.
EDIT: I see this issue already mentioned on the qtemrinal github page, but I don't know how to switch to the fixed branch or repalce the cpp file to make it work

    The branch is called settings-persistancy.
Just clone the repo and switch to it with:
    git checkout settings-persistancy
    Then compile.
PS: You should ask for support in the main repo, i don't think this is the right place to do it.

  • Settings won't save Yahoo mail after adding second verification?

My Yahoo email was hacked.   Most of the emails in my Yahoo account were sent a spam mail from my Yahoo account.
As advised, I changed my password and added some extra security - a second verification so no one can login to my account without additional security questions or verification code.
No problem adding email back on my android phone.   But my iPad and I can't figure it out.
I signed out of yahoo mail on iPad.   Deleted the account in settings.   Verified it was gone.
Added the account back in settings, or tried to.   I get the message server unavailable.   It won't save the new password.   It won't trigger second verification.
I went through Safari and I can login to Yahoo mail on Safari.
I am also able to add the account to the yahoo mail app and use it.   But my iPad is constantly asking for the password.
I'm hoping someone else has had a similar problem and solved it.

I hope I have a self answering question.... Thanks to the "more like this" side bar.
the problem comes from your second sign-in verification, go to your setting in your yahoo account then go to Edit your account info, then go to Manage your app password a new page come out, go to the Manage your app passwords box and write " my iphone mail" then press generate password, this will give you a long password this password you gonna use it ones in your iphone and ones in your ipad.
then go to your iphone open setting then go to your emails, contacts, calender. Then press yahoo account and go to your yahoo account information, erase the old password and enter the new long password and done.
hope work for you guys, did work for me.

  • MacBook Pro won't save any preferences - ANYWHERE

Ive been having a really hard time after a couple of weeks of using OSX 10.6.8 on a 2007 Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro. It seems that the computer cannot save any 'preferences' of any program! For example it wont save any change on any browser. I open safari, i add a couple of bookmarks, browse a few pages, pin 2 pages in the preview and if i close it and open it again everything is gone. No bookmarks saved, no history made (its stuck on October 6) same preview as Oct 6. Tried to clear cache, reset safari, delete .plist in preferences, nothing changed. The same happens with Chrome, no bookmarks saved though it keeps most visited pages. Same goes for dock items, no changes will survive a reboot. A few other programs behave as such. I tried to repair permissions various times, even from OSX startup disk, no changes. While i was on startup, i verified the system HD where errors where found and repaired. When i tried to repeat this (after reboot and boot again on startup) HD appeared to be ok. When i repair permissions i get the same errors every time i do it, but as ive read many could be ignored. I have to note that this craziness happens in both accounts set up on the mac, both of which have administrator privileges. The whole system seems to be 'forgeting' most things, after closing a program or rebooting.. Any ideas on what could be causing this or anything that can be done? Thanx

I tried to repair permissions various times, even from OSX startup disk
    Trash the Finder plist file.
Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 empty the trash and restart your computer.

    Firefox>Option>Network>Settings>Select Auto-Detect Proxy
    Every time I open firefox.
I read the "Preferences Not Saved" Help but I don't have a User file in my Containing Folder, so I couldn't change that.
Deleted my prefs.js files, but when it automatically made a new one it was still stuck on "Manual Proxy Settings" which leads to the "Proxy server is refusing connections" error.
    Any new ideas? Please?

  • Logic board replaced, now network settings won't save

Got the black screen, Apple replaced the logic board on my MBP for free (yay, Apple!), but now it won't remember my network settings. I have to run network diagnostics, type in my pswd, etc., every time I wake from sleep.
When I first got it back from Apple, it couldn't find the network at all, and Apple gave me free tech support (again, yay, Apple!) because I successfully argued that the logic board replacement had caused the problem. I didn't realize in that support session that setting up a new network, while it would be saved in the system, would not automatically stay "on" -- otherwise I would've dealt with that then.
Running: 10.5.8 on 2.2 ghz late 2007 MBP. Cable modem and Airport Extreme. Others in house have no problems with wireless connection. The only thing that's changed is my logic board.
I read through several discussions, which talked about editing system files and such that I'm extremely uncomfortable doing, and there doesn't seem to be a definite solution for this problem stemming from logic board replacement.
    Thanks for any help...

    Hi Kren,
It sounds like just a setting: Open System Preferences > Network > click on Advanced > click on Remember networks this computer has joined > you may wish to uncheck all the boxes for Require administrator password > click OK (I don't remember if you have to click Apply on the next screen, but if it's highlighted, you need to; if not, close Network and you should be good to go).

  • Xorg DPI settings won't save

Following the wiki, I decided to check if my DPI settings were correct, and fix them if they were not. These are the results I'm getting (full commands typed out for clarity):
First, without any configuration, the screen settings:
    $ xinit /usr/bin/awesome -- :0
    $ xdpyinfo | grep -B2 resolution
    screen #0:
    dimensions: 1920x1080 pixels (508x285 millimeters)
    resolution: 96x96 dots per inch
This is wrong. Altering the commandline -dpi parameter results in the following:
    xinit /usr/bin/awesome -- :0 -dpi 165
    $ xdpyinfo | grep -B2 resolution
    screen #0:
    dimensions: 1920x1080 pixels (295x166 millimeters)
    resolution: 165x165 dots per inch
This is right. For a more permanent solution one might alter xorg.conf settings, which I did:
    /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-dpi.conf
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "Monitor0"
    DisplaySize 295 166
    EndSection
However, it results the default 96x96 DPI, as you saw in the first code snippet. Furthermore, directly editing the DPI in xorg.conf such as this:
    /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-dpi.conf
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "Monitor0"
    Option "DPI" "166 x 166"
    EndSection
again results in the default 96x96 DPI.
Interestingly enough, if I deliberately put some bogus values into the config, Xorg complains about it and will not start up. So the config file IS being read, and there are apparently no errors in it. As well the other .conf files in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ directory is working (such as fonts.conf, which I am using to include /usr/share/font directories).
Why is the config not applying?

I looked this up also, and found that Xorg0.log gives different results then xdpyinfo :
    $ xdpyinfo | grep -B2 resolution

    dimensions: 1920x1200 pixels (508x317 millimeters)
    resolution: 96x96 dots per inch
    Xorg.0.log
    [7232.286] (**) RADEON(0): Display dimensions: (520, 320) mm
    [ 7232.286] (**) RADEON(0): DPI set to (93, 95)
No 90-monitor.conf file present, and Xorg.0.log only has 2 other lines with dpi , both about font paths.
So the question seems to be : which is right, Xorg.0.log or xdpyinfo ?
Interesting... The xdpyinfo one is correct (I can tell because of text sizes). However, when starting X without the -dpi argument it shows this:
    [ 2194.180] (**) intel(0): DPI set to (174,171)
Not only is this the wrong DPI for my monitor, but it isn't the actual DPI that X is using. xdpyinfo correctly displays that the DPI is 96x96. However, if I launch X with the -dpi argument then Xorg.0.log will report the correct DPI (what I set it to). I really have no idea what's going on. I just wish my DPI settings would save!

  • IOS 7.1.1 cellular data settings won't save on iPhone 4s???

I'm using a 16GB iPhone 4s, with the latest version of iOS 7 as of writing this, version 7.1.1 Whenever go to the "Cellular" settings on the main settings page and turn OFF cellular data usage for a lot of my apps except for a few key apps that I need it for (Mainly Mail, FB Messenger App, Google Maps, and What' s App that I leave on), the moment I back out and come back in, almost all the apps I turned cellular off for are back on again. I've tried turning background app-refresh off thinking it was overriding my cellular settings, nothing. I've tried restarting my phone a bunch of times, nothing. Nothing I do seems to fix this issue and it's frustrating because I have the minimum data plan and I can't turn cellular off completely because I don't have a texting plan and depend on iMessages, FB Messenger, and What's App to get messages from people, and a lot of times it can be urgent so I need to figure out how to fix this stupid bug. Anybody else have a similar issue and/or know how to fix this?
BTW , i try to rest the network setting and still same problem.

  • Updated to Mountain Lion, Macbook Pro Won't save any app preferences

My wife has a 2009 Macbook Pro. We recently upgraded it to Moutain Lion, and now we are having quite a few issues. Additionally, we upgraded to MS Office 2011 from 2008.  Anytime we open most applications, no preferences have saved, and it goes through the process of opening the application for the first time. For example, the only way to open a word document (previously created in 2008) is to open Word 2011, go through the registration process where it tells us the product is already registered, then it opens a blank document. Once the blank document is open, you can click on the saved document again, then it will open. If you close the application, you have to go through this process all over again. This same thing happens for all products in the MS suite.
Additionally, firefox will not work at all. whenever I click on it, the icon just pops up and down and nothing happens. Their troubleshooting is telling us to create a user profile (which I have) under he application support folder, but the folder is gone after the update. Additionally, deleting and re-installing the application has not solved the problem. Additionally, Safari won't save any preferences.
Also, she is the only user account on the computer.
    Any help would be great!

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • Watermark source file won't save in settings

I have successfully created several watermark images that have source files (both in PDF format and JPG format). But there is one that I cannot get to save. I have tried the image in both JPG and PDF formats, but for whatever reason, when I try to save the settings, the source file is not saved and it just comes up as blank text when I select it for use. I have tried over and over again to save this watermark.
As a result, whenever I want to apply this particular watermark, I have to go and browse for and find the file time and time again.
?? Any clue as to why this one won't save? Is there a maximum number of watermarks that can be saved?

You can look at the place where the settings are saved.
For Acrobat 8 and MS Vista the place is:
