8 GB 3GS Slow Sync

My curret iOS is 5.0.1 but I have had this problem since back in iOS 4 (since 4.2).
I have closed every app in the multi-task bar. I have clears all cache and related in Safari.
I have tried various USB sync cables and I havre tried Wi-Fi sync. Still slow syncing.
My PC is a 2.17 GHz Dual Core PC, with 2 GB of Ram. Even if iTunes is the only program running my 3GS syncs so slow (takes up to 30 min to do 20 songs). Other both USB and Wi-Fi, I get the same results after doing everything I mentioned above.
When I first got my 3GS, it synced 100 songs in 5 to 10 minutes but now it takes up to 30 min to sync 20 songs over USB 2.0 or Wi-Fi.
My iPhone has just over 2 GB of free space out of the formatted capcity of 6.22GB on my 8 GB 3GS.
My iTunes couldnt go faster I have done evyerthing to speed it up that I could find on the internet from disabling auto features to removing smart playlists.
After doing all I can as stated above my iPhone still wont sync like it used to. It is only 1 year old.
Most of my media is in iTunes native media folders only small portion of my media is in other locations.
If the iPhone is like a PC when its hardrive is mostly full (computers run slow with a full hardrive) thats bad.
I doubt the iPhone is like that tho. Flash Memory drives aren't like that, and the iPhone has flash memory for storage.
What can I do that I haven't aleader to improve my sycn speeds?
My iPhone does still perform on its own quite well, and quite fast and with that mind.
Also I hvae tried doing as much as I can to make my phone runas fast as possible but no lck sync speeds.
Help me if you can, Thanks in adavance for you help.
(Yeah Vista is lame, a contributing factor to my slow sync speeds I bet but I can't afford to upgrade to Windows 7 or a Mac.

The iPhone 3GS 16GB and 32GB have the same processor, the same amount of RAM, and the same graphics card.
The only difference with the 3GS is the storage capacity.
The same for the iPhone 3G and with the original iPhone.

You should be able to sync your 3GS to your computer and make a backup. Then connect your iPhone 4S and restore from a backup. This should effectively move all your data to your new device. Report back if you have any problems.

Cured the problem! Reinstalled an earlier version of itunes from oldapps.com (version 10) now everything works as it should. I would suggest that if you are experiencing these problems that you do the same. I must say that it is a brave business decision on behalf of apple to effectively lock out all windows 7 users from their products and sales channels and I can only wish them luck in this very shortsighted policy.

Has anyone solved slow syncing?

When I sync my iPad with my 27" iMac it is like a glacier. Friends do not have the same problem and I do not have this problem with my iPhone.

I don't believe there is a generic solution as it does appear to be on a device basis, so lets try and troubleshoot your particular device. Slow syncs tend to be caused by some data corruption in the device itself, so the simplest way to narrow things down it to remove items from the sync process one at a time until the problem goes away. I would recommend unticking the following tabs one at a time in iTunes and then syncing after each alteration;
- Applications
- Photo's
- Podcasts
- Movies
The other extreme is to untick the lot so the sync leaves no media related items on the device at all and see if the problem persists. If it does, then you know its in the Apps so you can untick-resync until either the iPad is empty or the problem goes away.
Its a long process but it will identify where the problem area lies.

"sync" fails to open? Do you mean, iTunes?
If you manually open iTunes, does your iPhone show up in the left column?
If so...
Click on your iPhone in the left column of iTunes.
Click on the "Summary" tab in the right colum of iTunes.
Scroll down to "Options"
Select "Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected"

does anyone know what is going on? i make playlisys for my 3GS to sync. for instance, my most recent playlist had 38 songs on it but my phone and itunes only synced 27 of the songs. if i try and drag the ones that didnt make it in individually, nothing happens...very annoying!!! help!!!

It means that itunes on your computer cannot find where the songs are on your computer. what you do is right click a song in itunes when you are in your library and then click on find

Slow sync on iPod Touch 2g

i have a ipod touch 2nd gen 8gb and it syncs really slow on windows 7 x64, backing up is fast and itunes works great but when i sync about 800 songs it takes forever it has ios 4.2 on it. i also have quite a few apps. it seems like in windows 7 when syncing itunes really slows down to where its doesn't respond. i used to have windows xp x86 and it was quite fast. I have no idea how to fix this and would like to find out how, any ideas?

Usually, slow sync's come from insufficient memory, syncing through a USB hub, or trying to get away with USB-1 on an old PC. If you put Win 7 on a PC that was running XP, hopefully you increased your RAM to at least 4GB. But even then, iTunes is a memory hog and the CPU is going to be taxed pretty heavily just trying to run Win 7. But if this is a new PC, then make sure you're connected directly to the PC and not through a hub or other USB peripheral.

Slow Sync Speed

I've read many posts on this forum and believe that my sync speed is quite low. I did a theoretical max speed test for my line attenuation at Kitz.co.uk and it said that I should have a speed in excess of 19000kbps with an ip profile of 16000kbps. I have been using a dodgy micro filter that disconnected the broadband everytime I recieved a phone call however I have purchased a new one and my router is running flawlessly with no dropouts. The noise margin is constantly at 6db. I believe that this may have flagged my line to be faulty and thus resolved a slower sync speed to compensate.
I disconnected the broadband roughly 8 days ago after it had been connected for about 15 days expecting to sync at a higher speed but infact the sync speed dropped by several hundres kbps.
Is there any way that I can sync at a higher speed?

I'm guessing that I am on ADSL as it says annex A? Does that mean that I can access any higher speeds as I'm not on ADSL2/+? or would forcing the modulation on the router help?
Update: It is set to trained mode 16 which is ADSL2+ What is going on here, I just restarted the router and it is now slower.

Slow sync and huge synservices.log file

If you get slow sync and huge ~/Library/Logs/Sync/syncservices.log file, check that iSync is log logging everything it can.
In terminal, type :
defaults read -g SyncServicesLogEverything
if it returns YES, then here is your probem, just turn it off or delete this default :
defaults delete -g SyncServicesLogEverything

why my iPhone 3gs cannot sync to itunes? after i click synced, the phone seemed to sync to itunes but when it's about to complete, itunes cancelled the sync. WHYYYY? I've been having this problem since i've updated my iPhone to iO5.

Two things to try:
If you have a Windows computer open a Command window and type:
netsh winsock reset
If this doesn't fix it, or if you have a Mac, your current backup may be corrupted. Delete it by going to iTunes Preferences, Devices tab, highlight the backup and delete it.
And if this still doesn't fix it, you may have a badly corrupted backup. Delete it manually by going the the Backup folder and deleting everything in it. You can find it as follows:
Mac OS: ~Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup
Windows XP %AppData%\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
Windows Vista and Windows 7: %AppData%\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

Is there a connection b/t the 3.0 launch and slow syncing with iTunes??

Not sure if since the launch of 3.0 that there is a relation between slow syncs and traffic on Apple's servers? I know that I'm syncing with my own computer when I do a manual sync, but just curious.
Otherwise, is anyone else having problems with painfully slow syncs after 3.0 has been installed?

I am experiencing this as well, and I am currently in the process of un-synchronizing my apps then adding them back in a few at a time. However, I also think my slower-than-usual sync might be as a result of the new option in iTunes to, "Encrypt iPhone Backup," which I selected right after I updated the software.
The reason I think it's the backup encryption is because after I updated to 3.0, the phone rebooted, etc., I was perusing the new options in iTunes, and I saw the option to encrypt. I checked the box, created a password at the prompt, and it started backing up the iPhone again.
This time, it was sloooooow! It barely showed a hint of shading in the status bar after a minute, and I decided to cancel the sync. But I never unchecked the "Encrypt iPhone Backup" option (I forgot to). So perhaps if any of you have that option selected, it could also be the culprit or at least part of the problem.
Though I'm no fan of Windoze, take heart, PC users: I'm on a MacBook Pro, and this is happening to me, too.

Apple TV and/or Airport extremely slow syncing - Unique or common problem?

This is my first post and I'd appreciate help.
My Apple TV has worked fine for the last few weeks but started playing up last weekend. It now syncs either very slowly or not at all. Have tried every workaround suggested in this forum. Also spent 3 hours on phone with Apple technician this morning who could not diagnose problem (but has gone away to consult internally).
Apple TV is (was) connected wirelessly to Airport Extreme which is connected via ethernet cable to iMac, with all the latest software installed on everything.
Factory resets of both Apple TV and Airport Extreme worked for a bit, then same problem re-emerged. Direct ethernet connection of Apple TV to Airport Extreme also worked for a bit, but then same problem appeared, and then Apple TV disappeared from Devices list in iTunes and could not be recovered even after reboot. Direct connection to iMac also worked initially, but then same problem (slow syncing, then disappears from Devices list) re-emerged. Can see Apple TV in Devices in iTunes if wireless connection is restored, but only with extraordinarily slow syncing.
Anyone know what the problem might be? Is it unique or common? Any suggestions for fixes?

By current release software I was referring to the AEBS firmware, the Apple TV software and iTunes. You can run the "Check for Updates" tool for each to make sure that they are up to date.
Since you reported the same problem when connected either by Ethernet cable or by wireless that would obviously rule out any wireless problems such as RF interference. The only possibilities left would be that something else is loading down your network or there is a hardware failure somewhere.
If there is a bad component in the AEBS I would expect it to affect your computer as well as the Apple TV. If there is a hardware failure in the Apple TV I would expect it to show up whether syncing, streaming or watching movie trailers or YouTube videos.
One other possibility might be that if you have any anti-virus software on your computer it might slow things down if it is scanning the files while they are syncing or streaming.

Very slow sync

I've been experiencing very slow sync times (2.5 min) since iTunes 9.0.3. I thought that it might be a bug in that version which would be resolved in 9.1, but the issue persists. I only ever sync Apps, the rest of the categories I manage manually, yet hitting the Sync button still results in iTunes hanging for 2.5 min whilst displaying the "Syncing iPod..." message. So far I've tried restoring my iPod, reinstalling iTunes and running diagnostics, which showed everything was working fine. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Update: If I choose not to sync Apps then the sync proceeds normally. This happens even after I tried deleting all Apps on the iPod and in iTunes.
