80Gb classic cant be seen by itunes

When ever i connect my 80 gb classic ipod to my computer i get a message that pops up that is titled:
devicemsglistenerwnd: iPod Service.exe – Application error
and in the message box it says:
the instruction at “0x00427259” referenced memory at “0x00000044”. The memory could not be “read”
My ipod is seen in windows explorer but not in itunes. What should i do?

I am having similar problems. After seven months of working perfectly, itunes doesnt want to recognise my ipod. I have been through all the steps on the document suggested and tried various network drive letters for the ipod. I have reinstalled itunes 5 times now. The ipod is clearly there when i go into explorer, the computer recognises it as my ipod but when Iopen itunes, the option to sunc ipod is greyed out and there is no sign of the ipod. have tried resetting the ipod whilst it is connected to the comuter and itunes and when its not. Nothing seems to be working.
Does anyone have any other suggestions before I pull all my hair out. Cheers

  • 80gb classic...transferring to itune

I am new to the whole ipod thing and I love having one! I have an 80gb ipod and have set up itunes on my computer with windows xp. Recently we had to do a complete reboot on our computer because of a virus...which wiped out my itunes and my library. I do however have all my songs from itunes library on my ipod. How do I get the songs from my ipod back onto itunes? As far as I know if I try to synch my ipod now, it will just wipe out everything on my ipod because there is nothing in my itunes. Please help.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only

    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible - Windows version only)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • 80GB (Classic) Crash to do with iTunes...

I've had my 80GB iPod Classic for 2 days. I connect it to my computer this morning and when I open iTunes it detects it as the wrong iPod (looking on the internet, I think iTunes detected it as the first or second generation iPod). It says I need to download iPod software 1.5, I press okay and then it screws up on me (closes). I open it up again and just close the message, the iPod tries to sync but says some songs cant be played. I then eject the iPod and look at it to see it has just deleted everything on my iPod. I connect it up AGAIN and it detects it as the right iPod, but says it cant read it or something so I have to restore it to factory settings. I press the restore button and then iTunes screws up again and closes. What can I do???

  • 80GB classic not linking up with iTunes

My classic froze and after trying to re-set, it just keeps "clicking" but doesn't show anything on the screen. I tried to connect it to my pc - it recognizes the iPod and even shows that 30Gb are used but I can't get iTunes to link up with it. Any suggestions out there??

  • 80GB Classic makes explorer.exe and iTunes hang until it's removed

My iPod is no longer recognised by iTunes at all, and in My Computer shows as a 'removable disk'.
When plugged in, explorer and iTunes both become unresponsive until I unplug the iPod.
I've heard a solution to this is to completely wipe the iPod then reformat it. However since iTunes is unresponsive and doesn't detect it, I can't use the reformat option on there.
I have also tried formatting using windows, i.e. format e: FS/fat32 but this tells me that the disk is too big for fat32 (which is weird since fat32 supports something like 2TB right?)
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could reformat the iPod?
    Thanks!

I did find that if I saved all of my photos as bitmaps, resized them to 640x480, and got rid of the dashes in the filenames, that they would work.

  • Problem with 80GB classic it won't be recognised on itunes or my computer

My girlfriend told me that her pod had suddenly stopped working on her and was telling her that she had to restore it within her itunes, when she tried this the computer wouldn't recognise that there was even anything there. Later trying the same ipod on my computer i found that it wouldn't recognise the device on there either. I've heard alot of things about the 80GB classics suddenly stopping working when itunes is updated is this the same problem?

I'm having the same problem. Been struggling to get 80gb Ipod Classic to work with Windows XP. I've gone through 4 Ipod Restores, and just when I think it's stable, some new issue rears it's head. Initially, I was convinced that I had a corrupted Itunes library, as eventually during a sync, Itunes would get stuck on some random file, and I would have to pre-emptively disconnect. Eventually, this would corrupt the database files on my Ipod, and it would start up fine, but say it had no content on it (but with, say, 60gb free). So I cleared my library and database files (my documents > my music). started from scratch basically. Since doing this, syncing has been fine for the past month...Now (started two days ago), connecting my Ipod to my computer, Itunes won't see it. On the Ipod, it shows "Do not disconnect" screen, and then "Ok to Disconnect" screen immediately. Last night, I experimented, connecting and disconnecting the Ipod to my computer, and eventually Itunes did recognize it (seems hit-or-miss), but then during the sync it eventually got stuck syncing a file, and I had to pre-emptively disconnect. Luckily, it did not erase/screw up the library on my Ipod.
Another issue, I have is that Podcasts, never show in the outermost Main menu. The only way to access podcasts on my Ipod Classic, is to put them all in a playlist. Any one else with this problem?

  • 80GB Classic - Itunes always sees in Recovery Mode

Have just got new 80GB Classic - When plug into PC Itunes (version 7.4.3.1) comes up that detected IPOD in recovery mode. So I click to restore and restores and re-starts IPOD then same message comes up again.
Have tried several times and just get same message. When plug in old 20GB 4th generation IPOD it is recognised with no problems.
So wonder what to try next ?
    Thanks

Did you have a look at the troubleshooting page linked to above? If not, have a look at the bottom section that covers what to try if the message keeps reappearing: iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore
Towards the end it says "If after restoring your iPod, the message described above reappears, the iPod drive letter may need to be reassigned. See the "Change the Drive Letter" section of this document for steps to assign a different drive letter" which contains a link to this article: Windows confuses iPod with network drive

    Hello adifromba
Try putting your iPod Classic into Disk Mode to force a restore within iTunes to get it to show up. The steps to do that are within the first article below, I have also provided a second article for further troubleshooting if it continues to not show up.

  • Cant sync iTunes Videos to my NEW 80gb Classic!

Just hooked up my new 80gb classic to iTunes for the first time and all my music loads just fine. However, I bought a handful of music vids and a couple episodes of Entourage from iTunes and they refuse to sync. Itunes gives me the "not the correct format" error. Did I just throw away $20? What can I do to resolve this?

I'm sorry, the error is actually something to the effect of "your iPod does not play videos"

I'm having sync issues too since I've updated to 11.0.4.  My ipod 160 will no longer sync properly or will hang when attempting to sync yet my 4th gen touch doesn't have any problems.  I am thinking about uninstalling it and rolling back to an older version of itunes.

here is an interesting thing: take the iphone and set lock screen to never. Now make an email with siri--be sure to activate her with call button. get to the body and get some text in there. then just stop talking. LOCK SCREEN APPEARS!!!!!! and of course you draft is gone.
There does seem to be a work around for some--maybe all these issues. Don't use the call button--use the buttons on the phone.
Siri seems to behave properly with scenerio above---sans call button. She does not go to lock.

My iPOD appears in My Computer in drive H as a mass storage generick volume

Try disabilng the Enable Disk Use option from under the iPod's Summary tab, applying the changes, and seeing if that helps.
Otherwise, temporarily disabling any antivirus, security, firewall, or file indexing software that may be running on your system and then try restoring your iPod again.

  • Ripped a CD to iTunes, it is showing up in "My Music" but when I sync with my 80gb Classic the ripped CD is not syncing even though other changes I made are

Ripped a CD to iTunes, it is showing up in "My Music" but when I sync with my 80gb Classic the ripped CD is not syncing even though other changes I made are
Have checked device sync settings and it is entire music library and their is plenty of space on ipod to accommodate - have restarted both itunes and the computer and disconnected and reconnected ipod to no avail.
Running itunes on Window machine under W8.1 and ipod software is 1.12

Thanks planb77. Your instructions worked but I had to do a little more than you stated. I did not realize that transferring files to a new computer was not enough. When the iPod synced I was told I needed to "authorize" my new computer to get my iTunes purchases to sync to the iPod. So after the initial sync, I ejected and disconnected the iPod, went into the iTunes store, set up "home sharing" and then authorized the new computer. When that was done I reconnected the iPod and was able to sync all my books and music. The only thing I couldn't do was rename the iPod as iTunes never asked me to. Is there a way to rename it after it has been set by iTunes as "owner's iPod"?

  • Can't update firmware on *80GB Classic

I was prompted to install firmware update 1.1.1 for my 80GB Classic but I keep getting the message that the request has been timed out. On the downloads section of Itunes the estimated download time is showing as up to 3 hours, depsite me being on a fast broadband connection. Previous updates have gone fine.Purchases from Music Store go fine.
I have tried reinstalling Itunes and resetting Ipod but to no avail.
Anyone have any ideas? I am on Windows XP Home.

No you don't need to update the firmware.. but if you have forgotten the password you need to reset the TC.. it will then become available to the network.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
Soft Reset to get around passwords.
To actually get around the password all you need to do is press the reset button for between 1-4sec seconds.. do not exceed that..
The passwords will then disappear for 5min reverting to default.. ie nothing on wireless and public for main access.
That allows you time to do the setup. Then try again with your ipad etc.
Otherwise find someone with a pc with windows and use the 5.6 utility on that or use an older Mac OS.. yosemite is hopeless.
