8320 - Can't use as mass storage device

Hello all,
I received this Blackberry from my dad, he works at this company and they gave him this blackberry a while ago, and eventually they gave him a new one so he gave me this one. Needless to say, it was registered with BES, with some restrictions, however I was able to remove them all, from firewall policies to MMS and other policies that didn't allow to do certain things. (it's now BIS)
Everything is working great, except that I'm not able to access the media card using windows explorer. I'm not getting the prompt when connected to the PC, despite the fact that at options (on the device) I have it configured to prompt, and media card is activated and all.. which should make it work, but still doesn't.
I installed USB drivers (5.0.1) then the DM 5.0.1... tried to connect but nothing. However, DM does detect the device and shows its PIN number, I can make backups and install apps from there, so it is connected correctly, but I don't get a prompt asking for mass storage or just charge as it should...
I think it has to do with restrictions it used to have, because I can't think of any other reason for it not working. I wiped the device once, reinstalled ALL the device software (4.5) from my carrier, make sure no policy was active (I removed them using both policy.bin file and  JL_cmder method.. the later worked best as it removed policies for firewall as well, which I was not able to do with the blank policy.bin file method. I removed the policy file already from my computer and deleted the registry entry I made when I used it, so this should not be a problem now. I even reinstalled DM, USB drivers, and tried "calfix" from blackberry support, which supposedly was going to fix my problem, but didn't.
I tried reading lots and lots of forum post, either from here or any other BB forum on the internet, but the solutions haven't worked on my BB device...
So, can anyone help me? What should I do? USB mass storage option is the only thing that doesn't work, but I need it to transfer files between my PC and my BB....
Thanks in advance.
edit: I forgot to add more details,
Windows 7 Ultimate
8320 with OS 4.5.0.55 installed
USB cable: the one provided with the device, I even tried connecting another Blackberry and it worked fine, so it has to be a problem with my blackberry and not the PC/windows/cable/desktop software.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
First -- thank you so much for the detailed report...it really helps us know how to guide you! Kudos!!
I do not think that you have yet successfully removed the IT Policy...here is another method that has been tried by many that works:
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Storm-BlackBerry-9500/Remove-IT-Policy-from-person...
After you complete that, you will have to reset everything from scratch...but the Policy should be gone.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Can't mount USB mass storage device [RESOLVED]

I plugged in my iRiver mp3 player in an attempt to transfer files to it from my hard drive and it prompted me what I wanted to do with it (do nothing, open a folder, etc.).  Irrepsective of which alternative I choose, I get the following error:
    Error - Konqueror

Can anyone tell me what this means and what I need to do to fix the problem?

Thanks Bert.  It wasn't working until I realised I had to reboot to effect the new group membership!
Now I've got another problem.  My iRiver shows up with permissions:
    drwxr-xr-x
How do I change them so that every time I connect it to my PC it allows me to write to it?
    It's mounted as /media/IRIVER but I couldn't see a 'media' group in /etc/group.

  • Unrecognized mass storage device (BOLD)

I got my bold a couple days ago and I plugged it in to transfer some stuff but nothing came up. My roomates Bold worked perfectly on my computer it showed up with both the Bold and his media card as seperate drives but nothing for mine.
I have changed the Bold settings to use as mass storage device but still nothing
Im on a macbook, any ideas?

    Hi uvadula,
As well as enabling mass storage, please check your BlackBerry bold smartphone setting under Options, Memory, to ensure that Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected is set to either Yes, or Prompt.  If your device has a password, you should be prompted upon plugging in the handheld for this password.
    Thank you!

  • Can I use iCloud like a mass storage device - pc free

I am living on a boat and I am using my iPad w a camera connector kit. Can I back up photos that won't all fit on my iPads internal memory(16G), using iCloud like an external hard drive?  I don't have a pc w me and don't want one.

With iCloud and photo stream your photos are automatically syced to the cloud, but the photos will only stay in the cloud for 30 days which is enough time by Apple's standards to download them from the cloud to a mac or pc so I guess the answer to your question would be no, you cant use iCloud as a mass storage device.

  • Using Blackberry as a Mass Storage Device is not working at all. Please advise

It does not show up in My computer. It shows up in the device managers under Universal Serial Bus Controllers as
Blackberry Smartphone I would like to be able to have access to my media card without  having to use my storage card reader.I went to computer management to see if it is a drive mapping issue, but it does not even show up there so there is no letter to assign.
I have made sure that The media card is formatted.
    I have a Blackberry 8310
    v4.5.0.81
Media Support is set to ON
    Mass Storage Mode is ON
and Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected is set to YES
It is a 4GB sandisk micro sd
    The bberry is not locked.
    Encryption mode is not enabled.
I do not have Acronis installed or an Iso mounters to cause any conflicts.
I am not using any network drivers.
Nothing else in plugged into any of the other ports
There are only two on my laptop and I have tried both usb ports.
It is plugged directly to a usb port and not into a hub.
My Computer's OS is XP Pro SP3
Also to reiterate, I am able to take the card out of the bberry and read it no problem through a card reader, but
that is annoying since you are supposed to be able to use see the blackberry as a mass storage device through
    explorer.
And just recently as a test,I tried plugging in another blackberry, a 8800 and that one popped up no problem as a removable device in my computer. What I do not get is why Roxio Media Manager can see the 8310 and copy files over and the device manager has it listed as a smart phone under the Universal Serial Bus Controllers list. This is bizarre.

Hi and welcome to the forums!
GREAT FIRST POST!! Very clear and specific. You don't know how rare that is
Is the laptop in a docking bay?
Content "encryption" meaning Content protection is turned off, right?
Are you able to backup and sync with the Desktop software?
Do you have the correct folders on the card?
Blackberry, music, ringtones, pictures, videos, voice notes?
    (blackberry has to be first).
Last one, how did you format the card?
    Thanks

  • Using an old iPod as a mass storage device...

    Hey there!
    So, here's my dilema:
My (almost-3-year-old) iBook died on me 4 weeks ago. The logic board bit the dust and it's not covered by that 3 year logic board replacement program that Apple set up. So they (official Apple service centre here in London) want to charge me £728.50 to replace the logic board when a brand new MacBook would cost me £740.00. (If I could afford to fix the logic board I'd just buy a new MacBook!!!)
Anyways, that gripe is going into another forum...
Sooooooo.... I have an old Version 3 iPod that I want to use as a mass storage device but in a PC-based environment. So, if I re-format it for PC is it recogniseable/useable with Macs as a storage device still?
I know that PCs don't recognise Mac stuff but, and correct me if I'm wrong, I remember something about Macs recognising PC stuff??
    So here's an example:
    * I want to reformat my old V3 iPod into a Windows environment.
    * I then want to take my newly re-formatted V3 iPod (set for disk use only) and use it to back up stuff (files, documents, MP3s) from my old, broken iBook (take it from the hard drive).
    * Then I want to take those files, documents and MP3s and put them onto a new, Windows-based laptop (which I am yet to aquire).
    Is this do-able?
    Thanks peoples!

" I know that PCs don't recognise Mac stuff but, and correct me if I'm wrong, I remember something about Macs recognising PC stuff??"
An iPod formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because the Windows OS does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive. There are third party helper programs to overcome that, however Macs can read Windows formatted drives so you should be able to use your old iPod as a straightforward removable drive without any problem.

Okay, usb_modeswitch works fine.  There is one odd quirk though...  Arch is set up so that it loads XBMC by default (I'm using this as a media PC).  On my old wifi adapter, which does not need modeswitch, the weather and news on XBMC update immediatly when it is started.  With this wifi adapter they do not update at all.  I can tolerate this though, but if anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this I'd appreciate it.  Thanks!

  • Limited storage in iPhone so i bought 20g iCloud. how can i use this iCloud storage in my device to store music and photos?

I have a limited storage in iPhone so i bought 20g iCloud. how can i use this iCloud storage in my device to store music and photos?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You could sign up for iTunes match and use iCloud photo library with optimisation enabled. The later will keep optimised photos on your device and iTunes match will let you access your whole collection and make room for newer content by removing older unplayed items.

  • PC won't recognize BlackBerry as mass-storage device.

I have a Curve 8320 with a 4-Gb SanDisk micro SD card.  Due to difficulties installing BlackBerry Media Sync, I'm trying to just manage my media (music, no photos or videos at the moment) simply by using my BlackBerry as a mass-storage device.  I understand that when I connect the BlackBerry to the computer with the micro SD card in it, the BlackBerry is supposed to prompt me to enable mass-storage mode.  However, this is not happening.  I can't get the BlackBerry to appear as a mass-storage device in the Computer folder on my PC.  I can tell the BlackBerry is indeed interfacing with the computer, for Desktop Manager is able to interact with it.  I've gone into the Media Card option in Options and enabled media-card support and mass-storage mode and told the BlackBerry to auto-enable mass-storage mode when connected, and I've formatted the card with the BlackBerry as well, but still I've had no luck.

Take a look at this kb article:   Unable to view media card
If that is not the issue, you might also want to use DM WITHOUT Media Manager as it may be causing the conflict:
I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
    1) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:

    2) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:

    * Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchornizing via USB):

    arcastor,
What OS on you running on your BB?
What size media card do you have?
Depending on your OS there is a limitation on the size of the media card you can use.
    Please let me know!

  • Time Capsule vs. Other Mass Storage Device

I am a Mac newby seeking advice.  I recently purchased the MBA below to replace my personal PC.  My previous setup was a desktop with plenty of storage to handle my needs (including iTunes) and I backed up data directly to an external hard drive (I know pretty basic).
After purchasing the MBA, I realized I do not have enough internal hard drive space to store all of my music and my current external drive is too small for all the media and backup of the MBA.  Also, the point of the MBA is to be mobile. Also, I would like my Sonos music system (with an application similar to iTunes) to be able to access the music library.  Lastly, I have far to many songs purchase outside of iTunes to use iTunes Match.  Therefore, I started seeking wireless alternatives to store my music and backup my MBA.  Although an NAS would probably be ideal, I have found out through trial and error that the basic systems do not work with a MAC and the only ones with a prayer are the more expensive ones (i.e. Synology and QNAPS).  Therefore, I have decided to pursue a more simplified approach.
My Internet and TV provider is CenturyLink.  Their router is very basic with only 802.11g speed and without any USB ports.  The following configuration has been suggested to my by some more experienced Apple users to provide wireless data access and backup.
Requesting CenturyLink provide me with a basic modem.
Purchasing an Airport Extreme (or similar wireless n router with a USB port).
Connecting the Airport Extreme (or other wireless router) to the basic modem.
Purchasing a Time Capsule (or other mass storage device).
Partitioning it using either the specific one for the Time Capsule (or Disk Utility for other mass storage devices) to provide one volume for my media and one for backup using Time Machine.
Moving the media from my old external drive (which is catalogued with folders for each artist, subfolders for each album and the songs in the subfolders) by connecting the old mass storage device and Time Machine to my MBA and using Finder to do this (see the questions below regarding this).
Moving/cataloging the media from the Time Capsule (or other mass storage device) by dragging it into the iTunes window.
Connecting the Time Capsule (or other mass storage device) to the USB port of the Airport Extreme (or other wireless router).
Setting up Time Machine to use the volume partitioned for backups.
Possibly having to move cataloging files from my iTunes, Music folder to the external drive and pointing iTunes to the Time Capsule (or other mass storage device) through Preferences, Advanced to access the music.
Overall, I am concerned with the total cost.  I just spent a lot of money, not only purchasing the MBA, but also the iPad 3 and upgrading my cell phone to the iPhone 5 (I skipped the 4).  It seems that by the time I purchase an Airport Extreme and a Time Capsule, I could also have just bought a NAS like the Synology 213 with 2 X 1TB drives, connect it to the existing wireless router via ethernet connections and have a more comprehensive solution.  Based upon these instructions and cost concerns (and bad experience), I have several questions related to this.
Does this configuration and these instructions make sense, including those for moving and accessing my music files through iTunes (i.e. will it work)?
Are both the Airport Extreme and Time Capsule necessary to make this work easily or can I purchase alternatives to either or each and if so, what is recommended?  If they are necessary, would you recommend doing this or buying one of the aforementioned NAS's to a Mac newby?
Given the file structure for my music on the old external mass storage drive, can I simply move the folders over with the subfolders containing the musice files in them or do I have to literally enter into each subfolder, select all and move them subfolder by subfolder (i.e. album by album)?
Am I missing something totally better and easier solution?
I would be massively grateful to anyone who can provide some good answers, advice and guidance.  I am about to pull my hair out!!!!
    Thanks,
    WinoSkiBoy

They both said about the same thing except the Apple Store business tech said to buy an Airport Extreme and just attach a partitioned external third party HDD to it.
Except that is flakey for TM backup..
    http://pondini.org/TM/Airport.html
And slow as the proverbial dog.. although I guess the dog is old.
And totally inadequate as a media store or server.
Apple's pricing is pretty cunning.. I really doubt you are going to find a cheaper unit to do both wireless and TM backups than the TC. And it is a perfectly good device to do that. It is good to have in the network. And Apple sure make their products work with other apple products.. so it does work better than other similar cost products.. although you miss a lot of features that Apple predecided for you.
But I don't think anyone has the ideal solution to your problem. Apple believe in cloud. And if you have fibre internet that will work really well.. forks out your money and apple will store your stuff. But for the real world most of us do not have internet connection even a fraction of speed required. And it can be another decade before we will. We need a box that is half way between a TC and media PC, a file store and a NAS. Will Apple make one.. ?? I don't think so.. They believe in cloud..
You can make the missing link one yourself. If you are so inclined.. A HP microserver running freeNAS can do TM backups and makes an excellent media store because it can do AFP. You can put a graphics card in it and plug it into your TV. You can use it with a airport extreme. But you will need a degree in Geek.. !! The synology is a preconfigured form of that.. No Geekdom required. Synology seems to have the upper hand.. this week.
Let me make a suggestion.. Figure out if you are going to jump into the Apple way of doing stuff.. which is basically itunes on computer as a server.. and the whole network.. working as part of this.. so any media is pushed from a store in itunes.. whether local or internet..  if you want to do it that way.. getting something other than the air to run itunes is well worth it. That is what a NAS cannot do.. it cannot be a media player.
Or you do hybrid.. ie you don't use put all your media into itunes, you use a bit of this and bit of something else.. As long as that can play files.. stored on NAS or even on the TC without the itunes requirement.. It won't be as pretty. But it isn't hard to get working.. as long as you accept this isn't going to be the perfect Apple solution.
