848P NEO-S - No POST, No Video, No Beep

I have a 848P NEO-S motherboard with a 2.8Ghz P4 installed.
The system had been working fine for over a year until it mysteriously powered down. Since then I have tried booting it back up with no success. When I had both the main ATX & P4 ATX connected to the motherboard it would not power up at all. With the P4 ATX plug disconnected the system will power up, but still there is no video, bleeping or POST, the only evidence of the system having any power to it is that the CPU and case fan come on.
I have tried testing the system with all the drives removed and just the RAM, CPU and video card. I have also tried with just one RAM module inserted and have also cleared the CMOS. I have tried testing with a brand new PSU and have reseated the CPU and also checked it for any physical damage but all of this was unsuccessful.
On the D-Bracket it hangs on the testing base and extended memory lights. This is also the only combination it performs.
Any feedback would be greatly appriecated.

I have exactly the same problem. (Only difference is that i have a celeron 2.4 plugged into the board). Did you find a solution?

848P Neo-LS No Post, No Video, Died

I've been reading the last few threads dealing with this issue.
My run down has been pretty much the same except the last portion where the power supply died..
1.Turned on machine, No Post No Video
2.Checked Monitor pins, plugged into alt computer Monitor works.
3.Put a pci video card to check video, same result.
4.Cleared Bios settings, rebooted same result
5.Cleared CMOS put everything back together. No nothing, power supply nothing responds.
6.Spend 4 hours going through threads with similiar problems.
From what i've read my power supply is dangerously low. Especially on the 12 volt rails? amperage is only 16. New to this power supply amps/watts. Sounds like the PS is probably dead, i'm going to do futher testing on it.
This seems to be one work around but looks like massive pain for people who don't have acces to other cpus.

Although everything i've read seems to point away from this being a power supply issue, as once a person replaces it they have the same exact problem.
I've also read about people rma'ing there boards, to come up with the same exact problem.
Is there a direct problem relating to the p4 2.8 and Neo-ls series motherboards?
Has anyone else had any experiences with this problem? Any other ideas?
What power supply do you guys recommend?
Should I just scrap this mobo and go for something different? If so then what do you suggest?

Your power supply isn't on if the fan isn't running. With an ATX power supply it does have to be connected to the board, and the board has to be connected to the case Power switch. Obviously the power supply switch itself must be on.

Ok, heres the rundown... just purchased a new computer from newegg, parts include:
Nvidia FX5500 256MB AGPX8 Video Card
Kingston 512 Meg stick of Ram, DDR400
P4 2.4A (Prescot) 533MHZ
The above board (848P Neo V)
Power Supply is a 6100 D Powermax, max load= +3.3@28A, +5@30A, +12@25A, [email protected], [email protected], +5vsb@2A
IBM 80Gig HD connected via IDE, generic CD-RW (Sony) via IDE as well, Floppy.
Think thats all the information about it thats relevant ;P
Heres what happens...
I connect everything up. Everything powers on for a split second (literally.. not even a second) then immediately shuts down. This includes the Power Supply Fan, P4's Fan, the secondary Fan, everything.. I dont even get time to read the diagnostics lights its so fast.
I've removed the Power Supply, put it into a diffrent computer - works fine. Put a totally seperate power supply in, same problem.
Tried bypassing the start switch on the case by jumping the MB on, does the same... thing...
I'm lost. Technically support isnt answering and just makes me leave a message (which they arent returning calls) so not sure where to go with this.
To make matters worse, its the wife's computer and shes home in 4 hours..ugh! Fix me fix me quick (lol)

Nevermind.. fixed.
Turns out that the particular case (powermax) dosent have a grounding shield behind it where the MB rests... taking MB out, power on works fine.
.... What cheap peice of junk company dosent put grounding behind where the mb rests is beyond me....

MSI 990fxa-6d65v2 No Post, No Video, No Beeps, and verified everything DOES work

and it sounded very similar to my problem except about 1000000000000000000 times less complicated due to everything i have tried since this has been an ongoing problem, and i basically just gave my brother a crushed dream for Christmas i would like to get it fixed. Plus his B-day just passed yesterday and all i had to give him for that was disappointment, words cant begin to describe the anger, frustration, depression, and sadness this has caused me. Please understand my excitement:
i spent almost $1500 on this build
i'm in college so i dont really have a lot of spare money
i got it for my brother for christmas
i bought parts i KNEW were compatible yet all i gave him was disappointment
i tried LITERALLY every single suggestion i could find ANYWHERE online
despite what i tried (even though it worked for others) nothing could fix it
i tested each and EVERY hardware component individually and verified they worked
even though the CPU, GPU, MOBO, RAM, HDD all tested fine when put together... nothing
Two months roll by and my brothers god damn Birthday arrives and the only gift i have for him is broken hopes
I (only for a slight second) thought that the psu might actually be the problem
So i even (mainly to satisfy the idiotically overwhelming amount of ppl who claimed it was this) bought another brand new PSU, since almost everyone was SOOOOO sure that the problem was the PSU....
after spending another $120 on a really nice PSU it turned out that, gosh it wasn't the PSU
After calling MSI and explaining this all to them, they said "Wow, that a lot of stuff, it sounds like the only thing left to try would be to update the bios, because from what you have told me, it sounds like you have eliminated everything else."
So i download the newest bios AVAILABLE ON THEIR SITE, and update it, and then in a turn of
events not shocking in anyway at all and totally expected, it did jack .
Even though MSI claimed that they actually "tested" the 7950 on that board and it worked, they even said that
it should work right out of the box..... oh really is that so.........
Throughout the entire time (and i do mean EVERYDAY) since pretty much christmas i have been on the internet trying to find answers or ppl who have had similar problems. I took what gigabyte said into deep consideration
"How could they have added support for that card, if the GPU was manufactured at a latter date than that of the
motherboard."
Well i figured that the latest bios, being that it was the only one they offered on their website would fix that....
After the suggestion of the beta bios by "flobelix" i had about a 99.9% assurance that it wouldnt work, i mean after everything this what reason was there to have any hope. I was going to (if it didn't work) call MSI and tell them i am sending back the gd65 and i want to exchange it for the gd80, because regardless of what they say about the card and its compatibility, OBVIOUSLY there is some sort of problem.
HOWEVER, IT DID WORK AND I AM FREAKING OUT WITH JUST OVERWHELMING JOY!!

With all that, i think it is bullshit that i had to use a beta bios, to put it more bluntly an experimental bios to get the card to work. Clearly the 7950 worked on MSI mobo when they tested it because it prolly had the latest beta bios....
How the hell are all the people that buy the board suppose to get the beta bios, i mean you dont have it on your website, is everyone that buys a new GPU suppose to just go through two agonizing months of frustration and depression before they get an answer?
MSI needs to address this issue asap, at the very least they need to offer the beta bios on their website. I have been buying from MSI for almost 10 years and i have always been happy but this situation really pissed me off. I am not going to stop buying from them because i think they are a really good company but, they need to stay on top of like this A LOT better.
Therefore to conclude this all, i am extremely happy to have this finally resolved, i cannot thank you guys enough i really cant.

Problems with adding 1Gb memory to 848P Neo

I have had an 848P Neo since February now, with only 512Mb, but seeming as some games and applications I have been running are now taking 512Mb as a minimum, I decided to buy another stick of 512Mb PC2700 333Mhz DDR to take me up to 1Gb. But I struck a problem.....
With both sticks of memory in the machine, the computer fails the memory 'POST' test on reboots (not boots from power off, but when something makes it reboot. ie: BIOS or WinXP). When I do get into Windows, the Core Centre utility acts weird too. It locks up the whole machine, whether you are trying to 'restore' it, or adjust the FSB. It won't even shut down or Ctrl-Alt-Del with it (this is surprising as I have never had to turn off or reset it via the case, as all lock ups have been recoverable).
With either of the sticks in on their own, it works fine. eg: Stick 1 in DIMM 1 or 2/Stick 2 in DIMM 1 or 2. But when they both go in at the same time I get problems. Both sticks are of the same CL according to the Everest System utility.
I have been getting help from my magazines forum, but they seem to have hit a dead-end too. Thread is here.
I would also like to add that I don't think it can be because one stick is Kingston (I think) and the other PNY, as I took the Kingston out of my second comp (same memory) and it still wouldn't work.
I hope I can get this fixed soon.

How do you up the 'VDIMM'? lol.
I don't think it is a mixing prob, as I took the other stick from my other computer (all the numbers on the memory chips are exactly the same, except it is a green stick instead of blue), and the problem still existed.

CL3 Memory wont work on Intel 848P Neo Mainboard? any help?

I purchased Kingston DDR Ram recently and put it into my computer. It worked fine but sometimes I start computer up and it comes up with a message saying something is wrong with the memory timings. I dont think it is configured properly.
In the BIOS there was an option to "CONFIGURE DRAM TIMING BY SPD" and i set that on ENABLED. If i set it to DISABLED then there are other options that I have to set.
These options are as follows:
1. CAS# Latency [Options 2 or 2.5 Clocks];
2. RAS# Precharge [Options 2, 3 or 4 Clocks];
3. RAS# to CAS# Delay [Options 2, 3 or 4 Clocks];
4. Precharge Delay [Options 5, 6, 7 or 8 Clocks];
5. Burst Length [Options 4 or 8 Clocks].
These are the 5 settings i can modify and in the "[]" brackets are the options i can select from for each one. Could you please tell me how I am to configure this in order for the memory to work. The Ram voltage is set at 2.6v. The CAS# Latency only allows 2 or 2.5 clocks so im not sure if thats the problem or not.
The specifications of my computer as as follows:
RAM - Kingston KVR400X64C3A/1G 1GB PC3200 CL3 184
Motherboard - MSI 848P Neo (MS-6788 v1.0)
Motherboard BIOS - A67991MS v1.0081203
Motherboard firmware - V1.0 initial release
CPU - Pentium 4 2.53Ghz
Regardless of the settings I have done so far, if it works past POST and loads windows...after sometime it randomly resets. Any idea why this is the case? I suspect its the CAS Latency. The manual says you can select 3 Clocks but i dont see that option, just 2 or 2.5

The Kingston Site is not always correct or to be more precise: it does not state the operating conditions under which DDR-400 is possible on this mainboard. In this cases the problem is not the modules as such (they are able to run @DDR-400) if they are put into a system that supports that.
In your case the problem is the mainboard's chipset which can only make the memory run @DDR-400 when an FSB-200-MHz processor is installed. You are currently using an FSB-133-MHz processor. With such a processor, the maximum memory clock speed that the system can run at is DDR-333. I just checked the Intel Datasheet for the 848P Chipset. That is also the reason why all DDR-400 modules mentioned in the official MSI Memory Test List for this mainboard were tested with an FSB-200-MHz-CPU installed.
The only thing you can do to get aroung this "problem" is to install a supported FSB-200-MHz-processor.

It would probably be there once a processor is installed that will enable higher memory clock speeds than DDR-333. However, the actual CAS latency is only of secondary importance here. The main question is why DDR-400 is not possible (which would automatically yield a CAS Latency of 3 by settings the values in the corresponding SPD Profile). And as I said: DDR-400 is only possible with an FSB-200-MHz-Processor.
With your current configuration, the highest possible memory speed is DDR-333 @2.5-3-3-7. In case that runs fine & stable everything is working as it should.

848p mobo won't post

I have a 1.7 I pulled from my old dell (people think its intell)
anyways, bought a 848p neo, bought an Echo Star 480W Power Supply, 512 of PNY PC3200, grabbed my old video card (I know it works) which is a GeForce FX 5600 Ultra (256 mb) and put it all together.
Anyways, the system turns on like a charm, makes a few reassuring noises and then hangs before the monitor ever displays a single message. As in, the monitor stays in standby like its not even plugged into a turned-on computer.
Nothing smells funny, and the computer will continue to hum away; just I don't think its doing anything.
The reason I don't think its doing anything is the diagnostic lights on the back (I'm using the D-Bracket 2) are the same no matter how long I leave the computer running:

In the manual, this light configuration means the motherboard is "Testing Base and Extended Memory" but unfortunatly
a) I have no idea what it means by "Testing Base and Extended Memory" and
b) I have a suspicion that my problem is something different than what the lights are talking about just because it seems like the lights shouldn't STAY in that position.
I really have no idea what to do; I tried resetting CMOS, but that didn't help.
Any help would be appreciated!

1) hit reset button 3-4 times
2) Install 1 stick of mem only
3) Try lower spec ram ddr 266
4) Update bios too 1.4 or above
Please also note that certain ddr400 mem sticks are not 100% compat, with this board.....
I have only just switched too PT880 chipset.....
You should be able too boot system now........

Cant boot computer with 848P neo-v mobo

I've got a pentium 4 computer with 256ram and an MSI 848P Neo-V motherboard. Yesterday I tried to start up the computer without anny problem. I notice that my mouse and keyboard don't work. I press the reset button but it doesn't work. Suddenly I got a black screen. Since the i'm unable to boot the computer. If I press the start button the fan's are working the Hard disk is spinning the processor fan is spinning.
But that's it nothing on the screen. :(
So I went looking for the problem I cleared the cmos settings put in a new battery. tried new ram, New harddisk, new Graphics card, new power supply But its still not working.
The only strange thing that i'm noticing is that the red led at the front of the case stay's on. Normaly it flashes when the cpu is working but it stay's on.
It also seems like the computer Is looking for a dvd.
Is the motherboard dead or is there a problem that I did not think of.

When posting a video to Facebook from Camera app, how can I see the upload progress?

Normally I use the ProCamera app to upload photos and videos from my iPhone 5S but I'm having trouble with it lately so I switched the standard Camera app to post a video to Facebook. I know it successfully posted, I received a notification after a while but is there any way to tell the progress of an upload in Camera? ProCamera displays an uploading message at least but I don't see anything in the Camera app.

Did you have 'find my iPhone' activated on it? Because if you go to iCloud.com you can log in there and you can remotely lock or wipe your device. From what I hear, the police won't do anything about going and fetching stolen iPads and iPhones, but if you have find my iphone/ipad/ipod/mac turned on then it will give you a map of where it is.
Just keep in mind that sometimes iTunes does ask you for your password regardless, and only a few weeks ago apple brought in security questions, so everyone had to fill in security questions for their iTunes account to make it more secure If all else fails, ring Apple cusomer support and they might be able to bar your account or something, however you may have to make a new account (the might be able to set it up so you have all your previous information on a new account)

Video's are missing and can not post any video's and can no longer see on Facebook after upgrading mac software. Facebook says content is unavailable. Is this a facebook issue or is there something that I can do to fix on my mac.

Video's are missing from facebook album under photo's. It shows that I have 99 and only shows 24. These are not copyright problems. I have had them up for years. Now, I can not post any video's too. Message says that content is currently unavailable. It seemed to happen after I upgraded to 10.7.5 but it could be coincidental. Of course, I have not got any email from facebook to help with this problem and I am really frustrated that I can not find my video's and post any new ones anymore. Any help would be appreciated.

I would like to add that Comcast is my internet provider. Perhaps that is part of the issue although the Connection Doctor confirms the mail box is connecting to the internet. No other function processes when Connection Doctor program is used to find the source of the issue. I have read forum posts but am unable to find a way to get my Apple mail to be delivered to my computer. It worked fine up until I chose to transfer mail to the Cloud. My mail account is a .mac account.
Still hoping someone out there can help me.

848P Neo-LS Fan Control

As said - no control of the damn fans (Case/CPU) on my 848P Neo-LS. On the CoreCenter the button lits up on mouseover, but when pressed, nothin' happens (as said in manual, press to toggle user/auto modes for fan control).
Also CoreCenter doesn't show the Case fan's speed, but Northbridge (NB fan) fan's speed, which is obviously 0. Also NB temp is N/A. Also +12V is N/A. Also the FSB stays always at 101 Mhz, not 100. No overclocking done.
Today upgraded the CoreCenter to the most recent vers (1.7.0.0.), and the button doesn't lit up anymore...?
When I installed SpeedFan 4.17, it allows me to control the Case fan's speed from 2300 - 2700, but nothing more. Interesting.
CPU - Celeron 2.0
RAM - 256 MB Kingston
CPU Fan - OEM intel fan A80856-003
Case Fan - MJ 802512
Both fans with speed sensors, of course.
Should I update the bios?

To be sure I opened the case and stopped the fans by hand (I don't use the corecenter prg - piece of crap), to see that i have mistaken both fans (in SpeedFan prg). The one who varies by 400 rpm is the Cpu fan.

The bios health screen doesn't show +12V at all - just aint there...
The MSI tech support sez - flash the bios, and if anything doesnt change, the CoreCell chip has gone (faulty, whatever).
Flashed the bios (1.0 - 1.9 now). No changes.

Does the 848P Neo-LS support celeron D 315???

Does It???, in the msi page says that celeron D wont work on 848P Neo-LS motherboard, but other motherboards with this chipset works fine with celeron D, someone knows if it works or not?

Well my mobo (KT6V-LSR) doesn't even list the 2600+ barton, but I haven't had any issues, but where the CPU support actually lists it as NO, that usually means they have done testing. So I would say most likely no, but depending on where you buy it from you may get a chance to try it.

The Memory Modules link on that page will give you the modules the board has been tested with. Others may work as well, but just haven't been tested.
I didn't check to see if the Kingston are in the tests, but they do work with other boards using the ICH5 chipset.

You can not upload your videos to iTunes. iTunes podcasting section is just a directory of Podcast RSS feeds.
You will need to go to a 3rd party host such as Libsyn.com to upload your videos and then take the RSS feed from your libsyn account and submit that to iTunes.

848P NEO-LS SATA (Native Mode) - Cant Install WinXP

Okay guys -
I have a 848P Neo-LS which seems to be somewhat rare on this site in the support sections.
Its a brand new board and looks very fancy. I have a lot of experience with PC's as I repair them on a daily basis however this is my first adventure into the land of SATA.
To go with my lovely new MSI motherboard I have purchased a 120GB SATA Hard Disk.
In the BIOS for the motherboard under "Intergrated Peripherals -> On-Chip IDE Configuration" I can choose to operate the On-Chip ATA in either legacy or native mode. According to the manual that came with the board for Windows XP, I should use Native mode (which is exactly what I want as it allows for 6 ATA devices, as opposed to only 4 with legacy mode - im using a mix of SATA and P-ATA devices).
When set to Native mode and booting the Windows XP Pro installation CD, it gets so far then I get a blue-screen warning me about a possible harddisk problem?
But if I set it back to legacy mode and boot the Windows XP Pro installation CD, everything goes through okay and I can choose to begin installing XP if I wish.
However I want to run in Native mode as this will allow me the mix of SATA and P-ATA Harddisks that I want to run. The manual provided with the MSI board also instructs me that this should be possible.
Its not working - what is wrong???? From my knowledge of NT based operating systems im guessing I need to press F6 during the installation CD boot sequence and insert a driver disk for the SATA controller? Although it seems strange that this works in legacy mode - perhaps I have answered my own question here and that isnt the problem?
Or maybe I need a BIOS update, or maybe something entirely different????
Can someone please answer my question as I would love to get using this wonderful new PC.

You don't need to install any SATA drivers for your board. I suspect a compatibility issue with the HDD or on of the other SATA/IDE devices you have connected. I would do the following:
Search the Maxtor site for common issues with your model#
Install XP in legacy mode and then switch to native mode as suggested above. I have switched back and forth between modes with no trouble.
If you still get problems,
1. Update to latest BIOS if one is available. Most new Bios'es on the newer boards include fixes to compatibility issues with SATA devices and memory.
2. Try installing XP with only the HDD and a generic CDROM or CDRW attached. If this works, install the other devices back one at a time and test to rule them out as the culprit.
With a recent Bios and your setup I would set On-Chip Config:
Native mode
SATA Only
Keep PATA active-Yes
Both channels
Leave rest at default.
