Providing Full System Specs and PSU Specs for better verification of the problem as other members may have a idea on solving the problem .
Btw, increase your RAM voltage to 2.7v and check what DDR Clock Freq is you RAM running at.
1 Qns, did you o/c your system in anyways?

  • 865-PE Neo2 P -- BIOS 48 LBA mode

Hi, I am having some problems with a Maxtor ata-160G drive, with the MSI 865-PE Neo2 P board. I read the maxtor lists, and based on their recommendations used the maxblast3 software to create 3 partitions.. however when I load Windows XP Pro, it doesn't recognize the partitions. Worse, even after loading XP SP1 and running the maxtor big_drive_enabler.exe, Windows thinks it's a 148G drive rather than the 160 G it is. I was told that the BIOS might need tweaking if it doesn't properly support 48-bit LBA mode .. question is, does anyone know whether the bios shipped w/ this board supports it, and how do I go about enabling it?
    Thanks.

if that bit was not working it would see it as sub 137 gb
    thats about right any way
as drive makers use a metric gb
    not a proper on
and you loose by the format as well

  • K8T Neo2-f video purple

I have had my K8T Neo2-f since jan 05 and have had zero problems, worked so well I bought a K8n Neo4.  Just today I booted up the computer and my display is purple, changed video cards, drivers, and tried the monitor on another computer.  I really have no idea what it could be, any help would be appreciated.  Just for the record I have an OCZ 450 Modstream PS, Athlon64 3000 (Winchester), Ati 9600, 2x512 Samsung PC3200 ram, Coolermaster hyper 6 (HS) so my temps never go above 40 at full load. .  Basically all I really do on this computer is fold and play the odd game.

just an update:  It was my monitors cable, moving it slightly solved the video problem.  I still do not understand why this only happens on this one computer and not my others, I guess its time I invested in a KVM. Just want to thank all who reply in my time of desperation.

  • No Boot with AGP Card in Slot - 865 PE Neo2

    I have tried absolutely everything.
My system will not power up when I have an AGP card in the AGP Slot.  I have tried 3 different AGP 8x video cards.  All with the same result -- the system fails to power up at all.
When I take the card out of the AGP slot and just power up -- everything seems to go smoothly. (not that I would know since i can't see anything)  However, atleast it powers up.
This Mobo doesn't have built in video.
And I've never had one successful "power up" with a card in the AGP slot.
    Any suggestions or help?
    I'd greatly appreciate it.
    Justin

Hmmm...I've posted my own message but...after reading this...I'm having the EXACT same problem. I cannot get the system to boot with any VGA card installed. If I take the card out, it boots but beeps 8 times when it gets to the video card part of the boot phase. Then it stops at some later phase (I believe the keyboard section). System specs are as follows...
    Intel P4 Northwood 1.8Ghz
Gainward Powerpack Ultra 760TV/DVI (GeforceFX 5600 8X AGP)
765PE Neo2 (like this guy above) MB
PSU is a "DURO 400W Max"
I don't know how to obtain other information you have asked for, such as "combined wattage". I can give you the amp ratings for the various voltages listed on the PSU...
    +3.3V 28A
    +5V   30A
    +12V  11A
    -5V   .5A
    -12V  .8A
    +5VSB  3A
This was in a generic case we just got becuase the PSU was bad in the old one and my roommate seemed to think the button on the front of the old case could have been causing me trouble (?). Now if you are going to tell me the PSU is junk then you need to do a few things. First explain why. Tell me how to obtain the "combined watts" information and how knowing it is useful, and what it needs to be to support a system like this. Give your recommendations on reasonably priced PSUs that would provide enough power to run this system.
If a PSU can have so much to do with preventing a system from starting, why don't MOBO and VGA Card makers list more specific requirements for PSUs than "System needs at least a 300W PSU"?
I've been having problems getting a system running for months now, every since my original system shutdown one day and never started again. Since then I've been through  MOBOs 2 CPUs and 2 PSUs. This is the closest I've gotten, with the system starting but the bracket lights freezing at Video Card Initalizing.

  • [865PE/G Neo2 Series] Video stop working if I install Intel Inf update chipset software

    Hi,
     i have big problem    with my MS-6728 (865PE Neo2-S) and Geforce 4 Ti 4200.
After installing Intel inf update for chipset my Windows XP Pro SP1 stop booting and freeze  (if i use Detonator 61 or higher) or just use standart VGA driver (if i use Detonator version 41).
If i remove Intel chipset (i tried all versions) - video is working good
Why Intel Inf update chipet drivers have conflict with my video card ?

    Hi,
i did as You say - remove Windows XP, format my HDD, installed again    Windows XP, installed Intel Inf update - system Ok
install video drivers - freeze and crush.
    Nothing help    ....
I found on this forum that some people have problem with video like me. they talk about bad agp port driver.....
What can i do now ?

  • Upgraded RAM on MSI K8N Neo2 lost video output?

I have a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum mainboard with 1gb ram, started to get blue screen problems and acertained it was a ram module causing this. I decided I would upgrade and have bought some Corsair XMS3200C2Pro ram 2 x 512mb. Installed and rebooted, no video just the flashing green on the monitor switch. I have checked the graphics card but it is still seated and all the cables are firm. Tried taking new ram out and putting old back in - no joy.
Weird thing is I am sure it reboots into windows (my msn get logged out on my laptop) and it sounds like its going through the process but no visuals at all not even bios flash screen.
Any ideas???? I have tried google but nothing there that helps.

This may work.  Try taking out the new Corsair Memory and inserting one stick in slot #1 (closest to cpu) of old memory that you know works.  Reset cmos real carefully (disconnecting power, moving jumper, etc. exactly as in the manual).  If it boots, hit del to enter bios, choose optimized defaults, then go into dimm voltage and raise to 2.75 (ignore any red flashing warning or use 2.7 if you are afraid). F10 and save. Shutdown before reboot.  Disconnect power, open case, insert your corsairs. reconnect power. hopefully this works.  [Is any extra power connector required for gpu properly attached?]  good luck.

  • 865 PE Neo2 FIS2R Issues on XP install

    Hello there,
I have been spending most of my week end so far trying to install Win XP Home Edition on the following system:
    865PE-Neo2-FIS2R
    P4 2.8CGHz
    GEIL PC3200 DDR 512MB
    MAXTOR 60Gb Ultra ATA 133 (6Y060L0)
    TDK VELO CD
    ALL-IN-WONDER RADEON
After a few unsuccessful attempts, I disabled most of the Integrated Peripheral as well as Bios caching & shadowing without any success.
Win XP install blue screens before the end -but not always at the same point-
I did update the BIOS to the latest I found (1.5)
Any idea anyone ?  Anyone with a similar configuration ?
Thanks in adv for any insight you may share !!!

    Reilly875, DOS, Novjoe,
I must admit I gave up a little on the system after I read the couple first answers.  I have been building computers in a "not so educated" way (ie I am not at the overclocking experimentations or anything like that   and never had that kind of bad luck before :(
The PowerSupply is 350W, probably not a top of the line item since it is the default I got with the case (which was itself rather cheap ~$70)
I actually got 2 matched GEIL 512MB but in my troubleshooting exercice.
I kept the BIOS default, disabled most integrated devices to try to get to as few "variables" as possible...
Unfortunately, I do not have other memory sticks or Video adapter to eliminate do further testing :(
Do you guys feel the power supply might be at fault ?
Any experience with GEIL memory ?
I did a little research on the Web on the memory and the compatibility of my all in wonder with the MSI Motherboard and could not find anything that refrained me from trying to assemble this combination...
I am unfortunately leaning towards changing the board, not only because of the hands on level that is slightly over what I am used to but also because I realized that I misread the specs and found out a little late that the RAId was SATA only :(

  • 865 PE Neo2 LS Troubles

Alright, well first let me list my system specs:
    865PE Neo2 LS
    Intel Pentium 4 2.4c
Kingston HyperX DDR400 3200 RAM (2 256mb sticks, dual channel)
Western Digital 80 GB HD 8MB CACHE
    Asus GeForce4 4200 128 MB 8x AGP
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum (with front bay control strip)
Running this in a RAIDMAX case with two side-fans, stock Intel cooler.
Basically my problem is no matter what, I have problems with this board. I stick my HD, all my other stuff into a friends Asus board and it all works fine, it's just on this Neo2. I can't TELL you how much grief this thing has given me. Maybe Toms Hardware should have done a more thorough review before tossing this board an award.
Either way, I've had problems from the get go. First off, when I installed Win 2000, I had a whole bunch of errors come up during near final install. So, I run the installer again, things work this time. Then, once in the system, I find out my computer now will just randomly reboot.
It doesn't matter if it's in idling, if I click to open something, whatever, it happens all the time, and messages vary (I finally switched to see errors instead of just auto-rebooting). So I figured screw this, maybe it's a 2k thing. It also gave me a HUGE amount of errors trying to install my Audigy 2 (from CDROM), but I don't even want to go there. I had to spend a LONG and hard time to even figure out how to get the install to work properly. So to make a very long and frustrating story short, I go out and buy myself a copy of XP pro...
XP pro seemed a bit more stable, until the same crap started happening. It's not as often, that's for sure, but it still happens. I just finished dealing with this problem today, to the point of where I guess some of the random reboots managed to screw up my registry, then I had to go in and fix that, but am still plagued with the same crap.
Random reboots, at odd intervals. Sometimes it'll go forever, allow me to sit and do whatever (it also seems to be more stable when I go and dink with my BIOS, though I have no clue WHAT exactly). Either way, I *still* have this problem. I've also checked to make sure I'm not running hot, and I'm usually around 38-40'C.
    So, what I'm wondering is:
Are there a set of vcore settings, DRAM timing, AGP aperature size, etc., that I should be changing to best compliment and stabilize my setup?
Is there ANY advice people can give me to getting my system stable?
This also all happened before I ever popped in my Audigy 2, which actually installed ok under XP.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

The same thing happened to me, to the point I had to install Windows ME.
You can change the "reboots" for a blue screen, not a solution, but you can see what the error is. It's an option in control panel/system, but I don't remember the exact name.
I searched the net for people with the same problem. I found that this seems to be an error that happens very often. All people with this random reboots, had 2 things in common (you and me too).
    -Windows 2000 or XP
    -A Nvidia card
As a matter of fact, I searched microsoft site for the error mentioned in one of this random blue screens and it's a recognized error, but there is still no solution to it.
Looks like we will have to wait for service pack 2, or another windows release.
I still have not found a solution.

    Here's a little byte . . .
And even with its memory divider idiosyncrasies, it's currently the best out there. Regardless, it's becoming crazy-making to re-set the BIOS by literally having to "pull the plug", remove affected (or infected) memory, and re-set the BIOS by replacing newer DDR with older DDR memory (I've been using a 256MB stick of OCZ GolD3700, I'll explain why this works). It's been quite a long time since I recall being so frustrated with PC-hardware. This article details the anomalies I've experienced among three motherboards, and several of the latest memory's designed for the Canterwood/Springdale chipsets . . .

  • P35 Neo2 PCI video card

    Hi All,
I want use an extra video card and bought a PCI GS8400 512Mb.
After installing the card in the system the card is not recognized by the OS (Windows 7 U64).
There is a yellow exclamation mark in the device manager at the PCI to Standard PCI Bridge.
When I open the device is says 'Device could not start error 10'.
Does my board support video cards in a PCI slot?
P.S.: I tried the card in two other systems an it works fine.
    Spec's:
    Q6600 2.4 GHz at 3.2GHz.
    8GB Ram.
    GTX275 PCI-E video card.
    GS8400 PCI    video card.
    2 x 30GB SSD RAID 0 disk for system
    300GB disk for data
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64.
    Any ideas?
    Regards,
    PJGS.

Ok this what is tried last night:
    - Fresh install Windows 7 Ultimate x64.  Still an error on the PCI Standard PCI-to PCI Bridge. GS8400 card not recognized.
    - Fresh instal Windows XP 64.              Everything OK. GS 8400 card recognized and working.
    - Upgrade XP 64 to Windows 7 Pro X64. An error on the PCI Standard PCI-to PCI Bridge. GS8400 card not recognized.
    - I checked my other Intel based system and everything workes fine.
This system has an Intel ICH7 chipset instead of a Intel ICH9.
This must be a driver problem or a Windows 7 problem, and as so often the user is stuck in the middle.

  • 865 PE Neo2, Intermitantly screen goes blank and monitor turns off.

Fans all will run and monitor will not come back on.  Have to press reset button to restart.  Also sometimes on boot up monitor will not turn on and it continues to book like normal with no display.  Is this a failing video card or motherboard.  Runs good, just not very reliable.

My have leaky capacitors on Video card and Motherboard.
Are you saying you have bad capacitors on both the video card and the motherboard? If yes then that is most likely what is causing your problem. If you can replace the caps yourself or have someone that can do it for you without costing too much give that a try otherwise you will need to get new boards.
Can you take some pictures and post them?

  • Overheating problems with 865PE Neo2-S ( 6728 )

I have the same problem with my MB. When the CPU is idle it's temperature is 42 degrees C, but when it get's stressed up it growes up to 62 degrees C. THe heatsink is well in place, and has good contact with the CPU as well as the fan which is working correctly. Once the temp grew up to even 72 degrees but when I touched the heatsink it wasn't hot as I suspected. Also quite often a situation happens when the graphics in a game are starting to get " jumpy " which is followed by sound slowing and eventually the computer stalls, so I think that the overheating is real. I would really use some assistance.

I dont think there is anything wrong with the CPU, CPU cooler or not even the casing fans.
    My system config is
    Pentium 4 2.8GHz C Processor
    MSI NEO2 865PE Mobo 512MB DDR333 Kingston (BIOS 1.1)
450W PSU w/4 Fans cooler system
    ATI Hercules Radeon 9500 Pro
    Iomega 48-24-48x CDRW
    WD SATA 36GB HDD
    WinXP Home SP1
    SB Live
    Creative 4400 Inspire 4.1 Speaker
When I boot up my PC, without running any application it is already 52 degree celsius.  After running General 5 it goes to 60+ ,  Dark Age of Camelot (Graphics intensive) it goes to 70 degree (Sometimes it just reboot while i am playing this game).  What is this?  My casing has 4 fans and my system temp is only 37 degree celsius.  How can my CPU temperature be so high when I didnt even overclock.  So what could be the cause of the problem.  Problematic Corecentre or MSI 865 PE NEO2 bug or whatever.  I really regret choosing this Mobo over Gigabyte PE1000.  FYI, my friend who fix the same system has the same problem as me.  So it is impossible that all of us didnt fixed our CPU cooler properly.

You should be fine running stock cooling (if you dont overclock) ...your problem is more likely to be airflow in and out of the case -to prove this try running with the side pannel/Casing off
If that works then you need to provide more airflow to the case not change your cpu cooler ...a bigger/more efficient CPU cooler will just increase you case temp unless you provide more airflow to the case
