9i iAs install on same Solaris box w/8.1.6.0.0

What torture!
I installed Oracle 8.1.6 on a Solaris 2.7 Enterprise 250 w 512 meg Ram.
Installed in the ORACLE_HOME /atl/ora816
And established a new user 'oracle'
to own the database, and the group 'oinstall'.
After that tried to install the 9i iAs on the same box the following times:
1) Try number one: created a new user, 'ias' to own the new ORACLE_HOME, '/pac/ias', into which I installed the HTTP_Server only business; the iAS installer failed to install the portal repository on the main database. It also failed to install the owa_htp or owa_util packages. Gave errors with the 'nngt.o' in makefile during construction. So I uninstalled (at which point curiously it runs the Portal install program, NOT during installation), erased, etc and tried
2) using the same oracle user as the main database installation, with a new ORACLE_HOME, /pac/ias, gave it a nice big TMP directory setting to install. Had similar errors. Uninstalled, erased, attempted
3) Using the same ORACLE_HOME as the main database installation. Got an error; tried to run svrmgrl got an error that libswctl.so or somesuch was not found; erased everything dealing with Oracle, looked at Microsoft SQL server product offering. Giving one more good go at installing the database from scratch and then the iAs. What am I doing wrong here, what is the correct way to do it? I just want to serve a web page with mod_plsql, not much, but I have to install 1.8 gigs of confusing and vaguely documented software to get there?

Hi,
The upgrade from 8.1.6 to 9.2 with full export method doesn't work, and it seems normal if we read the metalink note 132904.1 about Compatibility Matrix for Export & Import Between Different Oracle Versions.
Try an export/import schema level.
Nicolas.

    Hi,
Make sure you have given the correct rights for the .bin file to execute, also do have a look at the below link to get more information on how to install a .bin file

  • 6.0 Install on non Solaris box?

While the download page implies you can only get a version of 6.0
for HP, Solaris, & Winblows, the solaris install seems like it
    should work for any Unix.
I had some troubles getting it to work on Linux. Has anyone succeded
on getting it to work on a non Solaris Unix (ie: Linux?).

Well, you can certainly install it on Linux easily, but I don't know how well it will
actually work. The install script has support for a different JVM. Just give it
LAX_VM as the first parameter and the path to your vm as the second, e.g
    ./weblogic60b2_sol.bin LAX_VM /usr/local/java/bin/java
This forces it to use your vm instead of the bundled one.
You'll have to change JAVA_HOME in startWeblogic.sh, and probably other things.
On my (Redhat 6.2) box with jdk1.3 I can start the server, but I haven't tried
    deploying my code yet...

Us Linux users were going to have to wait for GA release to play with it on Linux.
In the meantime, I've now got a sparcstation on my desk. :)

  • Two Java versions on the same solaris box

    Hi,
How can I set up two instances (SUN One 8.1 Application Server EE) to use two different JVM's - I would like one to use 1.4 & anothe to use 1.5?
This is on the same box (Solaris 10).
DO I set it in the JVM Options of the AS ?

You need to have 2 separate file-based installations or 1 packaged and 1 file-based to accomplish that. The way to point appserver 8.x to the JDK which does not come default with appserver installation is to modify AS_JAVA environment variable in appserver_root/config/asenv.conf.

  • Multiple Clients Installed on same NT box.

I have oracle 8.1.6 client and 8.1.7 client installed in seprate directories on the same machine.
How do I tell which client I am useing if the ODBC I use is Merant 3.60 generic drivers?
I think the tnsnames.ora file determins which client version connects to which database. The seperate directories specify which database can be connected via which client.

Honestly, I'm not certain how third-party drivers deal with a multi-homed Oracle client. My guess would be that it would use the primary Oracle home, i.e. the home that you have selected in the Oracle Home Selector. Since the primary Oracle home is listed first in the path, I'd assume that all the Oracle DLL's would be loaded from the primary home.
If you want a definitive answer, you'll probably need to contact Merant.

  • Is it possible to install Two iAS 6.5 SP2 instances on a single solaris box

    Hi,
I have iPlanet Application server 6.0 SP2 installed on sun solaris 2.7.
Now, I want to install one more instance of iAS (same version) on the same solaris box. Just wondering, is it possible, because i think in case of Sun One Apps Server 7 its not possible.
If its possible, is there any specific configuration I have to make ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Prakash

    Hello,
I think it is possible to have two instances of IAS 6.5 on one machine because last year I had similar situation with IAS 6.5 Enterprise - I instaled it twice and put them in cluster. Things were just fine.
Each creation of instance of app server meant new installation of IAS software in different install folder, where second one used Directory Server installed durring the first installation.
I remember that I had only one Directory Server installation where each IAS instance had its own space for configuration data (by specifying diferent name for "IAS global config params" during the installation) and different set of port numbers for IAS processes. Finnaly, I put these two instances in a cluster...
IAS 7.0 (Sun One App server 7.0) has different approach regarding creating and configuring several app server instances, because creating one more instance of app server doesn't mean another installation of software...

  • Multiple SOA instances run on Same Linux BOX

    Hi,
Can multiple SOA installed be installed on same Linux box? Can someone pls answer this.
    Regards,
    Rakesh

it should be supported; It is just a new installation of SOA Suite into a new directory structure. Keep in mind that you need to have different databases to hold up the SOA Schema's. Note that from release 11g, you can have multiple SOA schema's into a single database instance.

  • Minimize and maximize Solaris 10 installed on VM virtual Box.

How can I minimize and maximize Solaris 10 installed on VM virtual Box.
    Thanks
    Paulo

Solaris is working just fine. Everything is ok. now since I open Solaris via VM Virtual box, the Solaris main page fills only half of the monitor. I can minimize/maximize the Virtual Box. But Solaris dimensions are fix and doesn't change. This leaves me a little room to open applications on Solaris. I had the same problems with my Ubuntu, by installing adds-on it was fixed. For Solaris I installed “Guest additions”, didn’t help.

  • OiD, DB and iAS on the same box

    Hello world!
Did anybody installed OiD DB and iAS on the same box and if yes
    does it working & ? :-)

    Hello Dmirty:
Yes, you can install them on the same box. Here is how I do it:
    1. Install OID with its database.
    2. Resize the OID database user and system tablespaces according
to the installation instructions in the 9iAS Portal install
    guide.
    3. Install Portal in a seperate Oracle Home on the same box.
When you install 9iAS version 1.0.2.2, Portal needs a database
but the database it will use cannot reside in the same Home.
Since you are installing OID, and OID installs a database it is
more space efficient to use the same Oracle Home you use for OID
as you use for Portal. Again, install Portal in a seperate Home
from OID but point Portal to the database in the OID instance
    durring installation.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to install iFS and iAS on the same machine?

I have successfully installed iFS on a Windows NT 4 machine. Now, I would like to install iAS Enterprise Edition on the same machine. The installation guide for iAS says that I should first deinstall all products from the default ORACLE_HOME. I have not found a clue as to what to do if I want to keep the software already installed.
Would it work if I tried (after installing iAS) re-install iFS using different ORACLE_HOME directory?
Is there a white paper or any other document that would clear up the issues involved in installing Oracle products in ORACLE_HOME?
    Thanks a lot,
    Marek

You can install IAS on the same machine that Oracle and IFS are on. Install IAS into a new Oracle Home (i.e. D:\IAS).
    This worked for me.
I am still waiting to hear how (look for my post about 20 below yours) how to configure IFS to use the Apache Web Server that is part of IAS.
    Good Luck.
Maybe one of these days Oracle will create an IAS discussion forum. This is my third request and I haven't heard anything back from them yet.

  • Installing 9i 9.1.2.4 on the same Sun box as 8.1.0.2

we have a 500gbyte database running on 8.1.0,2 and we need to migrate to a new version (9.1.02) over a period of 2-3 months.
I just want to be sure that I have planned this correctly.
We will set up a new ORACLE_HOME and
    a diiferently named database
will this be sufficient in order to allow both versions to run concurrently on the same SunFire box wile the migration goes on? We need to be able to install the the new version of Oracle, install a new databse, test the new database and then migrate the data.
For both versions, we need the user to be "oracle" in group "oracle".
    many thanks in advance

  • OBIEE and EPM install on Same box

    Hi
I have installed EPM 11.1.2.2 and OBIEE on same linux box with different weblogic domains. (bifoundation for OBIEE and epmsystem1 for EPM).
But will creating these weblogic domains i used 7001 as the port in both the cases. ( for obiee i used basic install where it takes default port).
OBIEE /analytics is coming up at 7001 but if i try to enter with the epmsystem1 .. it denies the logon.. username and password not correct.
I have few questions here :
    1) How can OBIEE and EPM weblogic domains be created on the same port : 7001
    2) why my epm instance is not coming up at 7001 although i installed it at 7001.
Because of this if i restart my hyperion services .. they wouldn.t come up untill i stop obiee.. so i have to first start epm and the OBIEE and the other way round would not work.
The best way to avoid this would be create these two weblogic domains on differenr ports, but since i was confused with this behaviour.. thought of asking it to the experts.
    Thank You
    Regards
    Sandeep Kumar Upadhyay

The easiest way around it would be when you first deploy one of the EPM web applications set the admin server port to something different than 7001 then it wouldn't conflict with the admin server being used for OBIEE
    Cheers

  • Can all three be installed on same box

Can 10g db, AS10g Rel 2 and Developer Suite 10g be installed on same machine?

If you are just playing around, you do not need to install app server. Developer Suite comes with embedded App Server components that are there to enable easy development and local testing.

  • Oracle 9i install failing on Solaris 10

Oracle 9i install on Solaris 10 fails at the Database creation stage with Ora error "Out of Memory"
I have a Ultra 10 with 1GB RAM, 2GB swap and lot of space in the filesystem where I am installing Oracle
The oracle release notes asks for increased value for shmmax, shmmni etc by editing /etc/system and according to Solaris 10, it is not required as kernel dynamically allocates those values. It looks like it is NOT. How can I verify?
rcladm talks about shmmax values only with projects. How can I verify that all my applications running on a this box has a higher SHMMAX values and not on per project basis.
In older versions, sysdef could tell us the current SHMMAX values. Is there any comparable commands in Solaris 10.
I am not that comfortable with the rcladm features. Can some one show some examples.
Is anyone successful in installing Oracle9i on Solaris 10. I heard Oracle patch set 9.2.0.5 and 9.2.0.6 is certified with Solaris 10. Does it mean the original version of 9.2 does not install on Solaris 10?

'Net Configuration Assistant is failing" from installation. I tried twice and got the same problem. I tried to run 'netca' from the command line and got the same problem - Java runtime problem. I tried to install patch and could not find Oracle patches for Solaris 10 and the patches are for Solaris 9.
    Does anyone have suggestion?
