A D300-Work Orange (And My Apology To Adobe)

For a long time now, I've been noticing the reds in my D300 photographs have been kinda orangy. And, I incorrectly thought Lightroom was the problem, and even got a little uppity about it on this forum, if you can imagine. After further consideration, I've realized the problem is with the D300, not Lightroom. I've been comparing raws + jpegs of a Canon G12 against the Nikon D300, and reds-wise, the G12 is spot-on, whereas the D300 captures them orangy - in both NX2 and Lightroom, raw and/or jpeg, neutral and otherwise...

Ya know, I messed with the DNG Profile Editor a while back but never integrated it into my "daily" photography workflow. I found the profiles I created with the X-rite passport checker so close to ACR 4.4 that I just started using ACR 4.4 when I want a linear profile. Anyway, its hard to tell from your example whether the reds have an orange bias since there is nothing to compare it to. Comparing my D300 to my Canon G12 (and to real objects) is what really drove the point home to me.
Its my hope that Adobe will eventually make "DNG Profile Editor - Like" color adjustments available on a photo-by-photo basis from within Lightroom proper, so its more convenient.
Presently I use HSL presets (both relative and absolute) to make the reds redder, when I notice oranginess, which sometimes is quite good enough, and other times doesn't quite cut it... I probably should get used to that DNG Profile Editor...
I was just about to post some example comparisons but decided just to report verbally: The Adobe Standard profile renders the reds almost exactly the same on the D300 as the G12 - both of which match reality almost exactly. Its the one profile I hadn't tried on the D300 because I find it often renders the non-Reds a little too Magenta-y for my taste and so I usually don't use it. Anyway, I guess the D300 reds/orange bias thing is maybe more of a Nikon color preference thing than a "sensor recording" thing, although I thought Neutral was supposed to be "closest to reality color-wise, albeit a little flat...", on my D300, it seems off, reds-wise... (NX2 as well as Lightroom...)

All new keyboards need Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and above for full functionality.
Rather short-sighted of Apple perhaps, but that seems to be a trend these days.
I'm afraid the only fix is to upgrade to SL. Personaly, I'd take it back and get a refund and seek an older keyboard or a third-party one elsewhere.

Macbook Pro not working - charger flashing orange and green...

So I have 13" macbook pro 2010... i was on it yesterday when all of a sudden the screen started flashing black and back to normal and black again really quickly... so i shut down the laptop and put it aside for a few hours... i returned later and tried to turn it on and nothing... then i noticed the charger light was flashing orange and green... all the battery lights on the side are dead and when i try to turn it on no noise coming from the laptop.... i have tried resetting the smc but nothing... please help?

RAW files from my Nikon Df (NEF) will not display in Lightroom. Same format from Nikon D300s works. Camera firmware is current. Df RAW (NEF) files display in Nikon software products, not in Apple software (Aperture or iPhoto).

The above list show the current camera models supported by Adobe Camera Raw (plugin for PS CC) and Lightroom 5.3.
You will see that the Df Raw support was provided in the latest version of LR 5.3. Support for the D300s was introduced in LR 2.5. (the NEF files are different.)
Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw can only be updated after the camera manufacturer has produced the camera and made it publicly available. If you are using an earlier version of Lightroom then that is your problem.
Please post details of the version you are using at present.

Won't start up, charger flashing orange and green?

I got this MacBook 5 days ago and have been using it fine ever since, however before bed last night I shut it down and when I woke up this morning I tried to turn it back on and it wouldn't turn on, so I plugged in my charger and the charger started flashing orange and green, I also used my friends charger and it did the same thing yet they both worker on her Mac, any suggestions on what I should do?

Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.

Nokia N95 through Orange and Satnav

Can anyone advise. I purchased my nokia N95 via an upgrade through Orange. I wanted this phone specifically because it has satnav features. I was told that i could purchase the software needed to activate the satnav feature through Orange and that it would be at a small one off subscription fee and that there would be no further charges to use the Satnav.
Well i have just received my phone bill and i am being charged for using my satnav each time i use it !!! I specifically asked about this feature an the salesman clearly said that there would be no further charges. Also using the satnav i have found out that each time i download maps for the city of birmingham Uk which is where i live, because the software cant find simple adresses in the area, i am being charged by orange for this too!!!
I phoned Orange and they tell me that i will always be charged for using satnav as it connects to the internet via their web network. They told me that a third party were charging me for downloading the maps and not them. This, i have subsequently found to be complete BS
My question is
Has anyone found a way to use the satnav on the N95 without being charged for every second they use it or can anyone sugest another satnav system that can be used on the Nokia N95 that does not require regular downloads to simply use the maps that are supposed to be already included in the **bleep** software ????
Also can someone explain to me what WiFi is and what voip is ?

Work space and color settings indicator

A helpful feature would be some way to activate a persistent menu bar icon that indicates which work space and/or color settings a user currently has CS synchronized too. I work on both print and web projects and it would be helpful to glance at the menu bar to see what work space I am synchronized too so I know if I need to change it, rather than having to go into Bridge > Creative Suite Color Settings to see, or a particular app's color settings/mode.

Nope, it must be done the other way around... your device enabled on the BES before the split workspace and personal space can be used... When it is, in your Settings (swiping down from the top bezel), you will see the choices.

My Nikon D300 Works Fine --

Although I have used Lightroom since Beta 3, Aperture 2.0 seemed to offer some interesting links to a number of Apple applications. The only problem was the amount of information here which seemed to indicate the D300 wasn't supported by Aperture 2.0. Before I plunked down $200 I wanted to beat on the program to make my own comparison with my tried and true Lightroom. I talked with Apple's tech support and was assured my D300 was compatible with Aperture 2.0. Well, they are right! I uploaded a shoot from yesterday and had no problem -- except my own learning process with Aperture. Apple told me the D300 works only with Leopard 10.5.2 and the new graphics patch that comes after the Big Update. Unfortunately, it appears there will be no support for Ap 2.0 under Tiger. I'm currently using Leopard very tentatively on a separate hard drive on the MacPro. Until I feel Leopard is solid enough, I'll continue to do the majority of my photography work on Tiger -- Let's see what Aperture does for the process.

Yes, Complete Newbie, I too read that support post and it was Not my intention to start a debate over this issue. I was simply reporting the information I got from Apple - right or wrong - and my own experience using Leopard with both of the current updates. There have been numerous posts here by people who have had problems with both the D3 and D300 not rendering images under Aperture 2.0. Apparently your experience with either of these cameras has been successful - Lucky us. Were you able to accomplish this using Tiger? As I said from the outset, I wanted to use Aperture 2.0 along side Lightroom to give me a real life comparison before (or if) I bit the bullet. Given the posts indicating problems with the D300, I didn't want to install the trial version (under my Leopard drive) only to find I couldn't use it with my primary camera.

What is causing an intense orange and red coloration on all my photos?

I first noticed about 2 weeks ago while i was working on a project in Premiere Elements that all persons had a very orangy complexion, and the reds were extremely intense, and this has been varying for the two weeks, from a washed out color to just rather vivid to intense. Then i thought it was okay after i made a few changes. The monitor had been trying to go so i replaced it, then i replaced the cable, and today the orangy complexion is back and almost as intense as before. It is even that intense on pictures on the internet, so it is not related to photoshop, thank goodness.
What is going? Any suggestions?

Thanks for the additional comments. The plan is to output my project to a BluRay disc, and i was trying to preserve the best quality i could for the disc within the scopes of Premiere Elements.
Is there no difference or preference as to using DSLR versus a HDV project preset for best quality?
I have rendered the project, but this is where the present problem seems to be arising for me. I guess my confusion is following your directions for your 'burning disc' workaround. Since when i went to 'share' to burn my BluRay disc directly, i wasn't given the option of burning, because the media was 'not present' to burn?? I don't know how i could have ruined a brand new blu ray disc, so i did attempt to do your workaround method. I may have incorrectly modified your guideline in your book, because you said to do an avi but earlier in the same chapter you said avi was for standard video, and you stated mpeg was for high definition videos. So i tried to burn my project to a computer windows 7 file as a mpeg with the 1920x1080i, and then was going to try and burn it as i think you suggested using the computer burn options rather than Premiere Elements?. But only 5% into the project of approximately 13 1/2 hours expected time or so it stated at that point, i got the pop up saying that my memory was extremely low and to save and proceed cautiously, so i just cancelled it. I have been reassured with 8GB of RAM i have enough memory to do these projects. When rendering, even though it took a long while, it kept automatically saving, and this pop up never appeared. So i have hesitated to keep trying this again. Yes, i need to get some rerecordable blu-ray discs to play with rather than lose one every time for whatever unknown reason, unless there is just a large percentage of faulty discs when you purchase them, and i am using Verbatim 50GB 6x??? I also keep getting the 'Adobe Premiere Elements 9 is not responding' notice, and the little swirling green circle with the 'wait for the program to respond' statement, which can be there for 30-40 minutes, plus since i rendered the project, if i reboot or exit Premiere Elements, it is taking that long and appears longer every single time to reload the program. I was told it was best to assess the size of my project by going to share, then computer, then mpeg and put my presets in to see the actual size of the project, and that states that it is almost 45GB and is almost 2 hours in length.
Is there something wrong with my computer? Am i missing something? Am i doing something wrong? I am now afraid to even try, because of the implication of too little memory.
I have spent hours on the phone with Adobe, with different technicians, some of whom speak better English, but i don't think any of them really understood the question i was calling for, and sent me off on wild good chases that were probably totally unnecessary. That has been one of the most frustrating experiences. I find that actually doing the project was much fun, but it has become an extremely frustrating job to get where i thought i had it exactly the way i wanted, and can't get it to the finished product. That is when i started searching on the internet to find some kind of manual to help answer the questions i really wasn't getting answered by Adobe, even when paying for the services. And i found your book, but the part on the burn disc workaround is not totally clear to me, and then running into these problems as i have tried to finish this project off. This is half of the planned project, so i am anxious to get to the second part, but............
Plus the issue of the fluctuating intense oranges and reds on my monitor, i am not afraid to go ahead and edit the second group of photos for fear of having all the faces look bright orange. I have had a computer lad come to my house, and since i knew my monitor was going, i replaced that with a new Samsung HD monitor, then i replaced the cable to it, and it still seems to be a fluctuating problem. Is the video card the next thing to replace, or do i have a more serious problem. My computer is one year old exactly, and it is a HP p6320f with AMD Phenom II x4 820 processor, with 8.0GB of RAM, using windows 7 65 bit operating system, and one TB on hard drive.
I feel like i have already connected to you through your book, so i have tried to spill out everything here in hopes that you can make me see the light! I am very much a novice on these issues, just getting into photoshop in the past year, but perhaps feel i have gone far past my abilities even with just Elements 9 and Premiere Elements 9.

If it's a 2nd gen shuffle, it is probably about six years old at this point. The cause is likely to be a worn out battery that is no longer able to hold its charge for very long.
It is technically fixable. This web site has repair guides

But it is very small, so you need to be good at doing such things. The cost to have a repair shop do the work is likely to be uneconomical, compared to the cost of a brand new 4th gen shuffle ($50), which has more features (and possibly double the storage) plus a one-year warranty.

The light on the MagSafe adapter will be orange. You can also check in the menu bar if you enable "Show battery status in menu bar" in system preferences > energy saver

If it is convenient then keep it plugged in, but for extended time like weeks, let it run down about 15% every few days.
Also don't let it run out completely, again only if it is convenient.
To be honest just use it when and where you need it. Not doing the above is not going to do massive damage to your MacBook, they are just tips which you should bear in mind and follow them if doing so is not detrimental to your work.

Orange and purple flashing

The broadband light on my home hub has been flashing orange and purple all day (Sunday)
The lights on the White modem box are fine and all lit up green (DSL, Lan1, etc)
Have turned power on and off several times for both hun and modem throughout the day to see if it wil randomly reconnect but had no luck
Rung BT and did the usual "restart this, unplug that" ritual. Guy didn't have a clue why it still wasn't working and said someone from level 2 tech team will call us back on Tuesday afternoon

Make a direct connection from your PC to the modem which will eliminate the Homehub. Follow this guide to do that. Use your computer as normal to see if it connects. If it does connect you will know it is a faulty hub.
Step 1: Remove the homehub from the modem
Step2: Connect your pc/laptop into the modem using LAN1 port
Step3: Open network and sharing centre on windows and click set up a new connection or network
Step4: Connect to the internet then click make a new connection Broadband PPPoE
Step5: Username [email protected] and the password as BT
Step6: connect, If it doesn't,keep pressing try again until it does.

Private Browsing doesn't remember passwords and the firefox tab is orange and shows remember passwords enabled. Cannot cancel to restart either. Help.

In Private Browsing you can't remember new passwords, but currently saved password are still accessible.

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?<br />
There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check box on a web page.<br />
The latter usually involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server.<br />
In PB mode all cookies are session cookies that expire if you end that PB session or close Firefox.<br />
So it isn't possible to have websites remember you and automatically log you in in PB mode.

No, I do not mean just the music. Copying just the media/music files or the media folder creates problems.
