A New IPhone for My Business

Hey-
I have a few questions about this iPhone. I am not a person who understands this technical stuff easily, FYI. I have a MBP which has ben in TX (I think it went) for what were called "software problems" 4 times the first year. I cracked the LCD, which I had to pay for, but the fist year has been real tough on my mind, my business, etc..
Anyway with the phone, I never should have purchased it because my fingers are too big. I never thought I had big fingers but even entering a Contact can take some time and talk about time--putting in a web URL is a real problem. I tried a stick, pen, pin, and none of them will set the thing in motion; if you know what I mean.
My questions for now, because I know how some of you can get really bitchy if I ask too many questions; are:
1. If I reset and/or turn off the iPhone 3G, is this a "good" thing like I was told it is god to turn off the notebook? If I reset the phone (because I am already messing things up and I have no idea what I do, will this erase all the info I have entered and the stuff that transfered when I transferred y contacts with the T-Mobile SIM card?
Holding down the bar button on the top of the phone for longer than if I just want it to hibernate, will turn it off. I can tell because when I turn it back on I see the gray screen, the Apple, and the swirly thing like the MBP. When I hold down the same button and push the "Home" button (where the circle/square is on the front/bottom of the LCD) at the same time, it resets the phone. I think I have tis right but I am not sure if resetting the phone wil erase all the info I entered or transfered.
I moved my Contacts icon to the first page (after trying abut 4 times) and it made al the icons shiver together, which was a bit scary but when I turned the phone off and back on, they were all nice and still and the Contact was still on the first page.
2. If it connects to the internet already, what is the purpose of the WiFi, like when I push "Mail" and I am near y MBP it picks up on the Airport Express WiFi and asks if it should use it? What dos it use when I am not near a WiFi but I am able to surf the internet?
3. Does anybody know if there is a way to lower the sensitivity of the screen and keep the phone on longer?
4. Finally, what about a case that covers the screen too? They did not have one at the AT store.
Thanks!
More to come.

A reset is a good idea to do occasionally, as that clears the iPhone's caches, etc. A reset is when you press and hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons for ~10 seconds (until you see the Apple logo, ignore the slide to power off prompt). That won't affect your data. You would only need to do a Restore in iTunes if you have problems with the phone (I've never needed to Restore).

Yes, that's right. See above - no loss of data with either power off or reset.

Yes, press and hold any icon until the all wiggle to rearrange them, or drag them from one home screen to another.

Wi-Fi is faster than cellular data connections. Also, the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store (the iTunes icon/app on your phone) only works on Wi-Fi. The iPhone's order of preference for data connections is Wi-Fi > 3G > EDGE > GPRS (the last 3 are cellular data networks from fastest to slowest).
3. Does anybody know if there is a way to lower the sensitivity of the screen and keep the phone on longer?
You can decrease the brightness in Settings > Brightness by turning off Auto-Brightness and setting the brightness lower. If you mean the Auto-Lock (where the screen shuts off by itself) you can make that longer or turn it off in Settings > General > Auto-Lock. Higher brightness and a longer interval for auto-lock means more battery use.
4. Finally, what about a case that covers the screen too? They did not have one at the AT store.
There are many. Try the Apple Store, in person or online.

  • I just bought a second iPhone for my business... I used my existing apple account and now all my texts are coming to both phones.. How do I get a secondary apple ID and change it on my business phone?

I used my existing apple ID when I purchased a second iPhone for my business.. Now all my texts are coming to both phones.. Is there a way to create a new apple account for my business phone and if so.. How do I delete one and add another?

Yes, you can have two separate Apple IDs, and it's pretty easy to set this up. Go into Settings > iTunes & App Store on your business phone. You should see your current Apple ID. Tap on it, then tap on sign out. You can then create a new Apple ID, using a different email address and password than those associated with the Apple ID on your other phone. Log back in using this new information, and you shouldn't get the texts that come to your other phone.
    Hope this helped!

Thanks. I messed up with my husbands iphone because I was told the wrong thing. Now everytime I sync his phone it makes it look just like the other phone I had. Do you know how I can fix taht for his phone? Any settings I can turn off that will prevent all of my apps/contacts, etc from auto populating his phone?

  • New IPhone for a friend but

    Hello-
I see the update for the iPhone came out. I just purchased a new iPhone for a good friend and would like to give it to him with as little to do as possible. he will probably not keep up on things but that is his nature.
About this update, I think I hear it is a security patch. How do the iPhones get their downloads? Does it just hapen when the machine is turned on?
Also, he wanted one that had a chip or something inside that would act like a mini modem so that he could use that to access the web with his new MacBook pro. I am not sure if he explained it right because I was not there, but the people at ATT told him that service should be available any day now.
Anybody know if this is even something that is in the works for iPhone users?
    thanks

you were not there? Oh man, I thought you were the whole time.
Yes I think that is it. I have a usb modem hanging out of a usb port on my MBP and h aid he doesn't need that because ATT told him the chip in the iPhone will act like a modem and he will be able to have internet connection via his iPhone on his new MBP.
It's the same concept as your USB dongle. ATT hasn't released it yet and they haven't announced pricing plans either.
Would you suggest he install this latest download? I heard it was a security patch to deal with some flaws in the google program the iPhone has used so it sounds pretty major. if he does not have his ITunes set-up yet with an account and credit card, do you know if I should check and ,download it and install it before i give it to him. he was concerned about being able to get it and I thought maybe they would download it to all iPhone automatically but that shows you how much I know.
The security update was to plug an SMS vulnerability that was discovered in the last week or so. It has nothing to do with Google. Apple doesn't do automatic installs. It's always up to the user to initiate the process.
He should set up his own iTunes account on his own machine. Once he has an account, he can sync his contact list/calendars/music from his machine to the phone. Prior to any update install, the iPhone will do a backup prior to installation.

  • New iPhones for the Kids

So we got two new iPhone for the kids and sent them money to their iTunes account for buying apps. However they still cant as the phone wants thier account linked to a credit card. If they have money in thier account why is this? Is there anything that can be done other then putting a credit card in thier account? Should it work off the balance of funds in the account?

So they both have 'no payment' accounts and have been iTunes members for a few years. When I want to allow them to buy music I send them gift cards through email. This adds funds to their accounts and allows them to spend. I assumed this would work for iPones apps too. However the apps store does not seem to see the funds in thier iTunes account when trying to buy an app. Each time they try to buy an app it asks for credit card information but does not see the funds in their account already. All other things work fine... such as downloading free apps etc.
So I was wondering is there account settings that need to change or is there other ways of send funds to them for the app store.

  • New Iphone for Christmas present.

Im really wanting to get my boyfriend the new iphone for christmas since he already has a plan with at&t. The only problem is I don't want him to know until christmas and then after christmas we both go in together to get his phone number transferred over to the iphone. My question is, is there anyway to just buy the iphone with out switching the contract over to the new phone or getting a new one? Because right now all I want to do is basically get an empty sell of a phone. lol

Well to get a phone at the price advertised (the subsidized price) you have to 1) be eligible for an upgrade if you already are with AT&T) and 2, agree to two year extension. Thus your boyfriend has to be present to do so as he has to authorize.
Otherwise you have to pay FULL price for a contract free iPhone (a lot more money).
So pretty much need to just print out a nice picture of the iPhone, put it in a card and say you want to buy him one.

  • TS4036 I have been restoring the backup into a new iphone for a week. My pictures do not get restored however. Is there anything I can do?

I have been restoring the backup into a new iphone for a week. My pictures do not get restored however. Is there anything I can do?

Not unless the phone was backed up to the icloud or in iTunes at some point. I know you said it's crushed but can it be connected to a computer? If so you can still back it up in iTunes and then when the new phone comes use iTunes to restore that back up on it.

  • My lock button broke is there anyway i can get a new iphone for free

Is there anyway i can get a new iphone for free my lock button got jammed one day and its annoying dealing with it i haven't had my phone for a year either

Take it in to Apple as only they can decide. If they decide it is a defect covered under the warranty, they will replace it.  If they determine it was caused by something you've done or an accident, then you will have to pay for an out of warranty replacement.  However, Apple will have to make that call, so take it so they can evaluate it.

  • Will apple store transfer my music to new iphone for me

will  the apple store transfer my music to new iphone for me?

    Do this:
Create a separate user account for you. Launch iTunes, then Store>Authorize this Computer. Then:
By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you are using a new computer, your phone will see this computer as a "new" computer. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to your phone or music ripped on your own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from your phone using third party software, before you do anything else, as Apple makes no provision to do so:
    http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php
Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
    1. Disable auto sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected under Preferences>Devices in itunes(under the edit menu if using Windows).
    2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in the supported applications(Outlook, Windows Address Book) on your computer. These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
    3. Connect your phone, iTunes running, do not sync at this point.
    4. Store>Authorize this computer.
    5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
    6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
    7. Right click again and select backup.
    8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
    9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding your contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
You should be good to go.

Apple does not repair devices, they replace them.
Out of warranty replacement is available, pricing varies by model and country.

  • Sprint's new 'iPhone For Life' plan

    Here's the deal:
$100 flat fee per month for 20GB shared data PLUS:
    $20/month iPhone 6 16GB
    $25/month iPhone 6 64Gb or 6+ 16GB
    $30/month iPhone 6 128GB or 6+ 64GB
    $35/month iPhone 6+ 128GB
The kids and wife get the 16GB; I get the 128GB making my monthly $210 for 5 phones plus tax.
The best that Verizon chat could do on chat (and the chat lasted 45 mins):
$160 for 14GB plus 32.49/month for each iPhone 16GB and 44.49/month for the 128GB making my monthly $334 plus tax.
I have a pretty good job but who wouldn't want to save nearly $3000.00 in two years time?
Sprint really wants my business, does Verizon?
Her's your chance to keep me for at least 2 more years.

thanks mrhelper! fortunately Sprint is good in our area and we had Sprint before - CS chat escalated my session to a supervisor - who in turn told me that phone CS may be able to do better. Before I call and wait on perma-hold I figured I 'd throw this out there.
I really appreciate your view and response.
It's not  my "view". Verizon  At the corporate level is not going to match. That's just their philosophy. Furthermore they give the CS reps no power to make changes. Sure if I call my cable company and threaten to leave they'll offer me a deal that because their CS are authorized to do so.
if subscriber number start to slow or fall if churn goes up and if they can attribute that to Sprint's offering yes then they'll match. At&t is more inclined to react to things Sprint and T-Mobile do. Now if at&t reacts then like Verizon will at some point. Sprint will have had this new plan for half a quarter by the time the quarter ends next week. In about 4 week when Verizon quarterly report comes out we'll see if this new plan has had any effect.

  • I just purchased 2 new iPhones for my wife and I and set them up. We want to give the old phones to our kids, with the ability to share all the songs in my iTunes account. How do I want to give new names so our old phones sync with our kids names?

Sorry for the long intro question.  I just bought a new iPhone 5S for me and a new 5C for my wife.
We want to give our kids my old 4S and my wife's old 4.  We backed up our old phones and restored
our info to our new ones, but when we connect our old phones, they still show all our songs and iTunes
settings on them (along with the same names as our new ones).
We want to set up our old iPhones for our kids to be able to have their own names on theirs so that
when we connect to my iTunes computer, it sees each phone accordingly, and has only the songs
that they select (whereas I want to keep ALL my songs in my iTunes account on mine, not just some).
    How do I do this?

    You are most welcome

  • HT201269 I have had my new iPhone for 6 mths and just decided to sync it

I connected it to iTunes and Rather than " set up as new phone" I selected restore from back up of my old phone.  Unfortunately this seems to have wiped all the photos from my new phone. Is there any way to retrieve these photos?

    Nope.
This is designed to be done right away after a purchase of a new iPhone that is replacing another - not weeks or months afterwards.
Photos/videos in the Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera. Had this been done before choosing to transfer the backup for the old iPhone, the photos would not be lost.
